Hansi Flick said that he does not plan on coaching anymore after his stint with Barcelona ends. The German was talking to the media prior to Barca`s crunch Champions League game against Newcastle United in the Round of 16 in the Champions League. Both teams drew 1-1 in the first leg away at the St James Park.
Newly re-elected club president Joan Laporta said he plans to extend the German coach`s contract until 2028. Flick said it`s not the time to talk about renewing a contract which ends in 2027, but hinted he was keen to end his career at Barcelona.
“Everyone knows I`m happy here, but I also need to talk with my family. There will be time for that. I love working here. I`ve got a fantastic family and great support in Barcelona. In football, I always aim for the highest level. I`m not thinking about leaving. Barca will be my last club.” Hansi Flick said.
He did not elaborate on a possible plan in place for his retirement. Flick joined Barcelona in 2024 and has enjoyed a successful spell during his 2 years in charge.
Barcelona aiming for League and Champions League double
Barcelona are top of the La Liga with 70 points. The Catalan giants are four points clear of Real Madrid in second place, having lost just 4 matches all season. They will face Real Madrid in the league on May 10, in what could be a potential title decider at the Nou Camp.
In the Champions League, Barcelona have a favourable draw to reach the semi-final. Barca drew away to Newcastle in the first leg of their round of 16 clash. They will start as the favourites to reach the next round at home against the English opposition in the second leg.
In the quarter-final, Barca could face their rivals, Atletico Madrid, in the Champions League. Barca will be eager to avenge their Cup defeat to Atleti and move into the next round of the competition.
If Barca do manage to beat Atleti, they will face Arsenal in the semi-final before a potential clash against Real Madrid in the Champions League final.
