Virat Kohli reminisces RCB’s deserving IPL 2025 triumph, says ‘It was not a fluke’

Virat Kohli has reflected on Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s historic IPL 2025 triumph, insisting the title win was no fluke but the result of sustained quality across the season. The former RCB captain highlighted the team’s composure heading into the final and their belief in having earned their place on the biggest stage.

RCB ended their long wait for a maiden IPL title by defeating Punjab Kings by six runs in a thrilling final in Ahmedabad on June 3, 2025. Having fallen short on multiple occasions in the past, the Bengaluru side entered the final with both confidence and caution. Speaking in a video shared on RCB’s official social media handles, Kohli explained how the team approached the summit clash.

Watch the video here:

“To be very honest, when we reached the finals, I felt a sense of calm confidence. But you also understand it’s not going to be a cakewalk, it’s a final, and there’s another team who’s played really, really well to get there and obviously beaten a lot of good sides, so they are also very confident in what they want to do.”

“Given the history of the near misses and the almost moments of the past where we reached the finals and we could not win, I think that gave us extra motivation to hold our nerve because the league has become so much more competitive. We must have played really good cricket to get to the finals. It’s not a fluke. It’s not by chance. We’ve beaten some really good teams and we are an amazing side who have earned the right to be here on this day.”

HOW RCB WON IPL 2026

RCB’s title-winning run in IPL 2025 was built on all-round contributions rather than reliance on a few stars. Players like Phil Salt provided explosive starts, while Krunal Pandya delivered crucial performances with both bat and ball.

Their bowling unit, led by the experienced Bhuvneshwar Kumar, ensured control in key moments, especially during high-pressure situations. Under the guidance of head coach Andy Flower, the team showed improved tactical awareness and adaptability.

One of the standout aspects of their campaign was their ability to perform away from home, shedding previous inconsistencies and delivering results across venues. That consistency ultimately proved decisive as RCB held their nerve in the final to clinch a long-awaited title.
