Project Hail Mary, starring Ryan Gosling, was released worldwide (except India) on March 19. The film saw a week’s delay in India as the makers felt it was best not to clash directly with Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar 2. Its India release is now scheduled for March 26. However, fans eagerly awaiting the film are disappointed. The Hollywood sci-fi drama has not been allotted a single IMAX screen in India. While tickets are available on platforms for 2D and 4DX formats, no IMAX screens have listed the film yet.
Fans express anger over no IMAX screens for PHM
Why is it a big deal? Project Hail Mary is among the few films shot specifically for IMAX and is reportedly a visual spectacle best experienced in that format. As of the evening of March 25, no IMAX screens in India had listed the film.
Sources suggest the film has been unable to secure IMAX screens due to the tremendous box office performance of Ranveer Singh-starrer Dhurandhar 2. This has left fans upset, prompting many to take to social media to express their frustration. Several users tagged theatre chains while voicing disappointment over the lack of IMAX screenings.
Preetham Daniel, on Wednesday, posted about the film`s release in IMAX on his X account. He is the Vice President of IMAX corporation in several regions including India. However, he seems to be unaware of IMAX screens not being allocated to the sci-fi film.
Project Hail Mary is OUT this weekend in India! 🚀 Filmed for IMAX. Ryan Gosling in space on the biggest screen possible — this is exactly how it should be watched.

Reponding to his post, a user said that there are no IMAX screens to the film. “Which theatre?” replied Daniel. However, there was no update after that.

BMS better shell out IMAX shows for Project Hail Mary.
4DX shows are a scam.

More about Project Hail Mary
Based on the bestselling novel by Andy Weir (author of The Martian), the film follows Ryland Grace (played by Ryan Gosling), a lone astronaut who wakes up aboard a mysterious spacecraft with no memory of who he is or the mission that brought him there. The much-awaited film will release in cinemas across India on March 26, 2026.
Directed by acclaimed filmmakers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, sources close to the unit say Project Hail Mary promises a thrilling blend of science, spectacle, and heartfelt storytelling.
Speaking about the film, Gosling recently said, “It’s an insanely ambitious story that’s massive in scope, and it seemed really hard to make, and that’s kind of our bag.” He added, “This is why we go to the movies. And I’m not just saying it because I’m in it. I’m also saying it because I’m a producer on the film.”
Featuring a strong supporting cast including Sandra Hüller, Lionel Boyce, Ken Leung, and Milana Vayntrub, the film combines scale, emotion, and gripping adventure in a cinematic experience designed for the big screen.
From Amazon MGM Studios and distributed by Sony Pictures International Releasing, the Ryan Gosling-starrer will release in India in English, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu across IMAX and other premium large formats.
