'Ranbir Kapoor reminded of Arun Govil': Fan praises actor's Lord Rama turn in Ramayana, gifts Ram Mandir-inspired vest

The teaser of Ramayana Part One, dubbed the ‘Rama’ glimpse by the makers, will be unveiled to the world tomorrow (April 2) on the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti. But a select audience in Los Angeles was lucky enough to get an early preview of the video last week. The asset was played to an audience in LA in the presence of director Nitesh Tiwari, producer Namit Malhotra, and Ranbir Kapoor, who plays Lord Rama in the film.

Ranbir Kapoor will essay the role of Lord Rama, which was immortalised by Arun Govil in Ramanand Sagar's Ramayan.

Now, a video from the screening shows a fan gifting Ranbir a Ram Mandir-themed vest and praising him for his portrayal of Lord Rama in the teaser. On Tuesday, the official account of Nazranaa, a South Asian boutique in the US, shared a video of their representative meeting Ranbir after the teaser screening in LA. They gifted him a custom-made vest with a Ram Mandir motif on it. Later, a video showed Ranbir’s reaction to it, appreciating the work and the gesture.

The caption read, “Hats off to the entire Ramayana team. This movie is definitely a must-watch in 4D theatres. The 2-minute 30-second trailer gave us goosebumps throughout. I can’t even imagine the emotional journey the full movie will take us through. Kudos to Director @niteshtiwari22 and Producer @iamnamitmalhotra for taking on this project. The musical score by @arrahman and @hanszimmer is next level.”

In the comments section, after a person doubted Ranbir’s fitness for the role of Lord Rama, the account responded, “You should watch the trailer! He definitely reminded us of Arun Govil.” In Ramanand Sagar’s seminal Ramayana TV series (1987-88), Arun Govil famously played Lord Rama and became the template for the portrayal for generations to come. Interestingly, Arun Govil appears in Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana as well, essaying the role of King Dashrath this time.

All about Ramayana

Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana is a duology shot back-to-back. The latest adaptation of the popular Indian epic stars Ranbir as Lord Rama, Yash as Ravana, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Sunny Deol as Lord Hanumana, and Ravie Dubey as Lakshmana. The film, mounted on a global scale, boasts music from Hans Zimmer and AR Rahman, and visual effects from DNEG, an 8-time Oscar-winning VFX studio. Ramayana Part One will release in theatres in October 2026, with the second part arriving a year later, ahead of Diwali 2027.
