Punjab Kings assistant coach Brad Haddin said that Shreyas Iyer is expected to shake off his injury scare and play in the clash against the Chennai Super Kings on April 3 at the Chepauk. Shreyas suffered the knock during PBKS’ win over GT as he was hit on the hand hard by the ball from a shot from Cooper Connolly.
After being hit, IPL-debut-2889896-2026-04-01?utm_source=global-search&utm_medium=global-search&utm_campaign=global-search” target=”_blank”>Shreyas received treatment on the field before being dismissed soon after. At the post-match presentation, the Punjab skipper joked that he didn’t want to jinx anything, but was keeping his fingers crossed ahead of the clash against Chennai.
Now PBKS assistant coach Haddin has deflected away fears, saying that Shreyas didn’t suffer a break in his hand. Haddin said that there is a bit of swelling on the right hand, but expects Shreyas to be ready for the game.
“No break. So that’s a good thing. Now it’s just about getting the swelling down and getting the movement back in the hand so he should be right for tomorrow,” Haddin said at the pre-match presser on Thursday.
PUNJAB VERY LUCKY
Shreyas got injured while trying to save himself and Haddin admitted that it was a close call for Punjab. The PBKS assistant coach claimed that it could have turned out to be a nasty injury but they got the best result possible at the moment.
“So, we’re very lucky, he was well hit by Cooper, it was a drop catch though from the captain that was put down as a stat but all in all the injuries we got the best possible result we could out of what we thought at the start looked a nasty incident,” said Haddin.
Shreyas has played 15 games against CSK in the IPL, scoring 371 runs in the process at an average of 28.54 and a strike-rate of 115.94. In his last game, Shreyas scored 72 off 41 balls against CSK.
