Yashasvi Jaiswal, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi earn praise from Chawla after win vs MI

In the rain-curtailed IPL 2026 match against the Mumbai Indians (MI), the Rajasthan Royals (RR) emerged victorious by 27 runs at the Assam Cricket Association Stadium in Guwahati.

During the match, RR`s opening batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal delivered a scintillating performance. Facing just 32 deliveries, the left-handed batsman garnered an unbeaten 77 runs, laced with 10 boundaries and four maximums.

Speaking about his knock, former Team India cricketer Piyush Chawla heaped praise by saying that the knock highlights the kind of impact he can have.

“Sometimes a player simply enjoys batting against a particular opposition, and that confidence shows. Yashasvi Jaiswal looked assured from the moment he came in and set the tone from the very first over. The way he took charge of the innings was impressive. Scoring 77 runs in an 11-over game highlights the kind of impact he can have,” he said on JioStar.

Shouldering Jaiswal was Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who played a fiery cameo of 39 runs. Facing 14 balls, he smashed a boundary and five maximums. Speaking about his knock, the former cricketer said that, considering MI`s bowling attack, it is always special to perform against them.

“Performing against Mumbai Indians is always special because of the quality of their bowling attack, with world-class bowlers like Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah. When a batter takes on bowlers of that calibre and delivers an innings like Vaibhav Suryavanshi did, it naturally stands out and gets people talking,” said Chawla.

With this, the “Paltan” has now suffered two defeats in three matches of the ongoing league. They have slipped to the seventh position with a net run rate (NRR) of -0.715 and two points.

Riyan Parag-led Royals are enjoying the top spot with three wins in as many matches. They have a net run rate (NRR) of +2.403 and six points. They will gear up to clash against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in their upcoming clash on April 10 at the Assam Cricket Association Stadium in Guwahati.

On the other hand, Mumbai will also face the same opponents (RCB) on April 12 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
