Asha Bhosle dies at 92, Yuvraj Singh leads condolences for legendary playback singer


Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh and members of the cricketing fraternity expressed their condolences after legendary singer Asha Bhosle died on Sunday, April 12, at the age of 92.

Her son, Anand Bhosle, confirmed the news, adding that people can pay their last respects from 11 am on Monday at Casa Grande in Lower Parel, where she lived. He also said the last rites will be held at Shivaji Park at 4 pm on Monday.

Earlier, Asha Bhosle’s granddaughter had said that the singer was hospitalised due to exhaustion and a chest infection, requested privacy, added that treatment was ongoing, and expressed hope of a positive update soon.

TRIBUTES POUR IN FOR TIMELESS ICON

Yuvraj said he grew up listening to Asha Bhosle, adding that her songs perfectly matched every mood and were deeply tied to childhood memories, making her loss feel personal.

Yuvraj wrote, “Grew up listening to Asha ji didn’t matter the mood, there was always a song of hers that fit it perfectly. So many memories, so many emotions tied to that voice. It feels like a part of our growing up has gone silent today. Rest in peace Asha ji. My deepest condolences.”

Yusuf Pathan described her as a timeless voice with a legendary legacy, saying her music will live on forever.

Pathan wrote, “A timeless voice, a legendary legacy. Saddened to hear about the passing of Asha Bhosle ji. Her voice will live on forever.”

Delhi Capitals paid tribute, saying she would always remain in their hearts.

The Capitals wrote, “Always in our hearts, Asha ji.”

Harbhajan said her passing was a reminder of how deeply her voice touched generations, calling her a true legend whose legacy will endure and thanking her for the inspiration.

Harbhajan wrote, “Hearing such news about Asha Bhosle ji reminds us how deeply her voice has touched generations. A true legend whose music transcends time and emotion. Her legacy will forever live in our hearts. Thank you for the inspiration.”

ASHA BHOSLE’S LEGENDARY CAREER

Asha Bhosle was born on September 8, 1933, in Sangli, Maharashtra, to classical singer Pandit Deenanath Mangeshkar. After his early demise, her family moved to Mumbai, where she and Lata Mangeshkar began their careers. Bhosle started recording in the 1940s and rose to become one of Bollywood’s most iconic voices across decades.

Renowned for her versatility, she sang over 12,000 songs in more than 20 languages, spanning genres from classical and ghazals to cabaret and pop. A defining voice of Hindi cinema’s golden era, she worked alongside legends like Mohammad Rafi and Kishore Kumar. Her collaborations with composers such as OP Nayyar and RD Burman produced timeless hits.

Honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award and Padma Vibhushan, Bhosle also won two National Awards. She continued evolving with modern music, collaborating with AR Rahman, and remained influential for over eight decades, leaving behind an unmatched musical legacy.
