Yash reveals how 'Toxic' led to Ravana casting in 'Ramayana' opposite Ranbir Kapoor

Yash has been on promotional duty for his upcoming film ‘Ramayana’ while attending CinemaCon in Los Angeles. There, the actor and his producer, Namit Malhotra have been busy promoting their film, hosting special previews and attending several interviews. During one such chat, Yash revealed that his casting as Ravana in ‘Ramayana’ actually stemmed from his collaboration with producer Malhotra on his upcoming film ‘Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups’.

Yash reveals how ‘Toxic’ helped bag ‘Ramayana’ role

Revealing how his gangster film helped him land a role in the epic two-part saga, he shared with Fandango, “I just wanted to take his (Namit Mahotra) company’s advice and wanted to put out something magnanimous and also a great visual experience for the audience around the world. So that’s when we met and that turned into Ramayana, but I should tell you that Namit and DENEG have been a major part in Toxic as well”.

Namit Malhotra on Yash’s casting as Ravana

Malhotra, who is backing ‘Ramayana’, elaborated on the decision to cast Yash as the antagonist. “Yas has been very understated in how he presents the character that he has played. . I think there’s nobody better than him to bring that flair and energy to the screen, and that’s what the world will watch and be incredibly enthusiastic about. One of the places from where I got excited was when I heard the narration of the script and what really established itself very interestingly was ‘What did Ravan do that Ram had to come into the world and resolve that?’ I’d love people to discover that in the film.He went on to add, “Like I’ve said, everyone knows and has seen it many many times, but the way he has played Ravan and Ranbir has played Ram, will be really exciting for the world at large to experience it.”

Yash on ‘Toxic’

Meanwhile, discussing ‘Toxic’, Yash described the film as a passion-driven, globally oriented project. He shared during a candid interview, “Toxic is a very ambitious project. I believe that the audience has given me success, not to celebrate and have fun. Maybe I always feel that it’s my responsibility to do something better every time they give me success. In India, people have given me enough love and support, so my idea is to present our stories and industry on a global platform. Most of us are working towards it. Toxic is one such example; we shot it in English so that people can understand or to easily communicate our stories better. It’s a large scale action film, but it’s very nuanced. It’s not like any other gangster film, its more metaphoric. When you see the film, you understand a lot more than what’s presented at the surface. “

Yash confirms October release for ‘Ramayana’

During his many discussions with American media platforms, the actor also revealed that ‘Ramayana’ which is slated for a Diwali release, may be eyeing an end-October release in cinemas worldwide.
