GT vs KKR, IPL 2026: Ajinkya Rahane says embrace the tough times, try to do best for the people of Kolkata

The Kolkata Knight Riders are navigating a grueling winless stretch in the IPL 2026 season, having failed to secure a victory in their first six matches. Following a heavy defeat to the Gujarat Titans, veteran batter Ajinkya Rahane addressed the team’s mental state, emphasizing the need to stay resilient despite sitting at the bottom of the table.

During the post-match press conference, Rahane was candid about the emotional toll of a losing streak but insisted that the only way forward is to face the reality of their situation head-on.

“Our way ahead is clear—we are flying to Kolkata tomorrow and taking it one game at a time,” Rahane said during the post-match press conference.

“We don’t want to think too far ahead. It is tough when you are losing matches, but no one wants to lose. We all want to win, but that is the nature of the sport. As a sportsman, you have to embrace those tough days, keep your head up, and try your best every single day.”

Rahane noted that while losing often leads to overanalysing combinations and tactics, the team’s internal environment remains constructive. He highlighted that the support staff is focused on maintaining positivity to ensure the players do not lose confidence.

“Whether you win or lose, there is always a discussion about how we can improve as a unit,” Rahane explained. “We have to accept that things aren’t going our way, embrace these tough days, and treat every day as a new opportunity. What we can do is play to our potential, back each other, and enjoy each other’s success.”

Playing for the Fans

With the team now two losses away from matching their worst-ever losing streak, Rahane suggested that a change in mindset might be the key to a turnaround. He believes that playing with freedom is essential when the pressure of the standing becomes overwhelming.

“For us, it’s about going out there, being positive, and playing with freedom. We have nothing to lose,” he said. “Everyone has been working really hard. T20 is all about winning those key moments. One good over here or there can change everything.”

Rahane closed his address with a message to the supporters at Eden Gardens, acknowledging that the players feel a deep responsibility toward the city.

“To the KKR fans—I know the support we are getting is amazing,” Rahane concluded. “We are playing for the people of Kolkata and trying to do our best for them.”

The veteran’s call for resilience comes at a critical juncture for the franchise. As the squad prepares to return to their home ground, the focus shifts from the disappointments of the past week to the immediate necessity of finding a winning formula in front of a passionate Kolkata crowd.
