Election Results 2026 Live: PM Modi said that now, West Bengal is “free from fear and full of confidence of development.”
Election Result 2026 Live: There is uncertainty over government formation in Tamil Nadu despite a big mandate for the fledgling Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) led by actor-politician Vijay. Although the party managed to win over 100 seats in the southern state, it still fell short of the majority mark and now all eyes are on what happens next. After BJP’s easy victory in Bengal, the focus has now shifted to who will be made the Chief Minister.
BJP also registered a strong victory in Assam and Congress returned in Kerala.

Election Result 2026 Live: Who will BJP choose as the Chief Minister of Bengal?
Election Results 2026 Live: Leader of Opposition in West Bengal Assembly Suvendu Adhikari, who defeated Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in her home constituency Bhabanipur on Monday, has emerged as the front-runner for the post of chief minister after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) swept the assembly elections in the eastern state, party officials said.
The BJP on Monday won the West Bengal Assembly elections for the first time, winning 206 of the 293 seats in the state for which counting took place. Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress (TMC) won (or was leading) 81 seats.
However, BJP leaders said the party has not ruled out the names of state unit chief Samik Bhattacharya and vice-president Agnimitra Paul as other possible CM faces. Paul won from Asansol South on Monday.
According to a senior BJP functionary, Adhikari may get the reward of defeating Mamata Banerjee not once, but twice – this time by a margin of 15,105 votes in Bhabanipur. He defeated Banerjee from Nandigram by 1,956 votes in the 2021 elections. “He has been adamant against Mamata since he left TMC in 2020,” said a senior Bengal BJP leader, requesting anonymity. In return, the TMC government had filed nearly 300 cases against the officer, the leader said.

Election Result 2026 Live: MK Stalin accepts people’s decision
Election Results 2026 Live: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, who lost to TVK’s VS Babu in the Tamil Nadu elections, accepted the decision and congratulated the winners.
He wrote a long post on social media-
In the last five years, we have created many projects and provided good governance to the people of Tamil Nadu. We have uplifted Tamil Nadu in every way. In the electoral arena, we sought votes only by boasting of our achievements.
We campaigned for votes to ensure that the welfare schemes that we have delivered to the people will continue.
I express my heartfelt thanks to all the people of Tamil Nadu who supported and voted for the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam led secular progressive alliance.
I governed not only for those who voted, but also for those who forgot to vote.
I have been true to everyone. I have acted as per my conscience.
I have worked harder than I can. To my dear colleagues of Neta Karunanidhi, who have worked hard in the field like me and who are inseparable from my soul, my deepest gratitude!
Thank you to the leaders, officials and workers of the Maitri Movement who stood shoulder to shoulder with us – all of them!
In my political public life I have seen big victories; I have also faced defeat.
Therefore, I am someone who works with the understanding that ideals and policies matter most, not just wins and losses.
Thus, the political journey of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam will continue without any interruption.
The DMK, which has so far served as an exemplary ruling party for the people – will henceforth serve as an exemplary opposition party.
