US-Iran war live updates: Trump says ‘will have no more patience’, urges Tehran to compromise with Washington

US-Iran war live updates: US President Donald Trump said he will have no more patience with Iran as he urged Tehran to reach a deal with Washington.

US-Iran war live updates: US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping are scheduled to meet on Friday to conclude a two-day state visit. Trump is on his first visit to China since 2017, and is hoping for solid results that could improve his approval ratings ahead of crucial midterm elections.

The two leaders are scheduled to have tea and lunch on Friday before Trump flies back to the United States.

The ship was reportedly seized near the United Arab Emirates

A commercial ship or vessels were reportedly seized by Iranian personnel near the United Arab Emirates and headed towards Iranian waters on Thursday, while the White House said US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping had agreed on the need to keep the nearby Strait of Hormuz shipping lanes open. China is close to Iran and is the main buyer of its oil. Iran has largely closed the waterway to ships except its own ships since the US-Israeli war over Iran began on February 28, causing the largest-ever disruption to global energy supplies.

The US halted its attacks on Iran last month but imposed a blockade on the country’s ports.

Chinese ships allowed to pass through Hormuz

Meanwhile, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said on Thursday that about 30 ships had passed through the Strait of Hormuz since Wednesday evening with Tehran’s permission, Reuters news agency reported, citing state media.

Iran has started allowing some Chinese ships to transit through the Strait of Hormuz after an Iranian management protocol for the waterway was agreed upon, the semi-official Fars news agency reported on Thursday, citing a knowledgeable source.

It comes as the White House said both US President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping had agreed to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and that Iran should never possess nuclear weapons.

PM Modi’s UAE visit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will begin his five-nation tour on Friday, starting with a visit to the United Arab Emirates as tensions remain high in the region amid the ongoing US-Israel conflict with Iran.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, Modi will visit a total of five countries in the next six days. The Prime Minister will land in the UAE for a brief visit on May 15 before leaving for the Netherlands.

What is on the agenda of Modi’s UAE visit?

Energy security will be a key focus area during PM Modi’s visit to Abu Dhabi, according to people familiar with the matter.

The Prime Minister is also expected to sign key agreements with UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on LPG supplies and strategic petroleum reserves, HT had earlier reported.

US-Iran war LIVE: Trump and Xi’s talks for the second day after Taiwan’s warning

US Iran war LIVE: US President Donald Trump and China’s Xi Jinping are due to meet on Friday to wrap up a two-day state visit that will include fanfare and trade deals, but also a warning from Xi that mishandling the Taiwan issue could damage relations.

Trump is on the first visit by a US president to China, America’s main strategic and economic rival, since his last visit in 2017, and is looking for concrete results that could improve his poor approval ratings ahead of crucial midterm elections.

The two leaders are scheduled to have tea and lunch before Trump flies back to the United States.

“Hopefully our relationship with China will be stronger and better than ever!” Trump wrote in a post on his Truth social platform early Friday.

The summit aims to preserve a fragile trade truce that broke when the leaders last met in October and Trump suspended triple-digit tariffs on Chinese goods and Xi backed down from curbing global supplies of vital rare earths.

Xi told Trump on Thursday that talks on trade issues had reached “balanced and positive results.” (Reuters)

US-Iran war live updates: Obama supports 2015 nuclear deal with Iran

US Iran war live: Former US President Barack Obama defended the 2015 nuclear deal with Iran, arguing that it curbed Tehran’s nuclear program without triggering a wider regional conflict.

In an interview with CBS, the former US President said that the deal was successful in removing Iran’s enriched uranium reserves, and was supported by both US and Israeli intelligence assessments at the time.

“We shot it down without even firing a missile,” Obama said. “We took out 97 percent of their enriched uranium.

“There’s no dispute that it worked. And we didn’t have to kill a lot of people or close the Strait of Hormuz.”
