Thane Police personnel and the center administration also conducted a mock drill to assess their preparedness and strengthen security measures ahead of the exam in Thane, Mumbai, India on Saturday, June 20, 2026.

NEET UG re-exam live updates: Over 22 lakh candidates are set to appear for the re-examination of NEET-UG 2026 on Sunday, with the National Testing Agency (NTA) saying it has taken extensive security and monitoring measures to conduct the exam smoothly and fairly across the country.

This re-examination comes weeks after the original NEET-UG exam held on May 3 was canceled following allegations of paper leak. The controversy sparked widespread protests, legal challenges and demands for the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

On the eve of the exam, NTA said it has made “elaborate arrangements” for “fair, secure and candidate-friendly” conduct of the exam.

entry time

1. Candidates will be allowed to enter the examination centers from 11 am, while the last entry will be allowed till 1.30 pm. After that time no candidate will be allowed inside.

2. NTA has also said that pens will be made available at the centres.

3. To help candidates deal with the heat conditions and exam day stress, the centers are equipped with drinking water facilities, ORS, ambulance and shady waiting areas for parents.

4. There will be a wall clock in each examination room, and additional rough-work pages will be provided to the candidates. Special provisions have also been made for left handed candidates.

5. The examination window has been extended to compensate for the time spent on admission and verification processes.

Security arrangements at various places

The exam will be conducted at 5,440 centers in 551 cities in India and 14 centers abroad. Candidates will take the test in English and 12 Indian languages.

According to the NTA, the scale of the arrangements is unprecedented. The re-examination will be conducted in more than 95,000 examination halls, all equipped with CCTV surveillance. A total of 1,38,560 CCTV cameras have been installed, whose live feed is being monitored at the national, state and ministry levels.

The agency has also deployed 51,311 jammers to prevent electronic malpractices. Of these, 17,054 are provided by Electronics Corporation of India Limited (ECIL) and 34,257 by Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL).

Strict verification and monitoring

NTA said 38,795 screening personnel and 48,448 biometric verification personnel have been deployed across all the centres. Biometric verification manpower has been doubled and complemented with facial authentication systems to ensure thorough scrutiny while reducing waiting time for candidates.

There will be two observers in each examination hall, while more than 10 additional examination officials will be deployed at each centre.

A Center System Officer has also been deployed at each examination venue to monitor the CCTV feed and resolve technical issues in real time.

To monitor the proceedings, around 6,700 observers have been deployed at the examination centres, while over 100 virtual observers will monitor CCTV footage centrally. Artificial intelligence-based tools are also being used to analyze surveillance footage and flag suspicious activity, the NTA said.

NTA warned against rumors

Amid continued concerns over the integrity of the exam, the NTA said it is keeping a close watch on social media platforms and taking action against those spreading rumors or making fake paper leak claims.

Appealing for cooperation from all stakeholders, the NTA said efforts are focused on ensuring that over 22 lakh candidates can appear for the examination in a “quiet, safe and supportive environment”.
