Commuters walk outside amid sudden pre-monsoon rain in the early morning in Noida, India, on Thursday, July 02, 2026.

Today’s Weather Live: While Mumbai and parts of Maharashtra are bracing for intense rain in the coming days, Delhi is likely to see a gradual increase in monsoon activity after a relatively mild start. India Meteorological Department (IMD) officials have predicted heavy to extremely heavy rain and strong winds in Mumbai and adjoining districts, while the national capital is expected to witness light rain, squall and strong winds over the weekend and early next week.

Heavy rain warning in Mumbai

Heavy rain has been predicted in Mumbai city and Raigad, Thane, Palghar, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts between July 4 and July 6. The weather department said there is a possibility of moderate to heavy rainfall in the Ghat areas of Satara, Pune and Nashik districts of Central Maharashtra.

Officials cautioned that local travel disruption and some degree of structural damage cannot be ruled out during this period. Citizens have been advised to remain cautious, especially while traveling through low-lying areas and ghat roads.

In an advisory, the state disaster management department urged residents to exercise caution and contact local emergency helpline numbers in case of any emergency.

Rain is expected to continue in Mumbai and its surrounding areas for the next 24 hours. It said that there is a possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall at many places, while isolated areas may receive extremely heavy rainfall.

At times, there is a possibility of strong winds blowing at a speed of 50-60 km per hour.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in its 48-hour forecast said that continuous rain is likely to continue in the city and suburbs. “Heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places with extremely heavy falls at isolated places over the city and suburbs. Strong winds with speed reaching 50-60 kmph at times are likely,” the weather office said.

Monsoon activity is expected to increase in Delhi

After a below normal start to the south-west monsoon in the capital, weather activities are expected to intensify from Sunday.

The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Saturday, predicting generally cloudy skies with one or two very light spells of rain. There is also a possibility of rain along with thunder, lightning and strong winds at the speed of 30-40 km per hour up to 50 km per hour.

Meteorologists say the delay in monsoon conditions over Delhi and most parts of North India is related to the weather systems currently active over Central India.

Explaining the situation, Skymet Weather President Mahesh Palawat said that the moisture is concentrated over the western and central parts of the country.

He said, “Due to this low pressure trough over central India, moisture content has become concentrated over states like Mumbai, Gujarat and MP. When this weather system weakens by July 5 and July 6, we can expect more rain over Delhi.”

Light rain, possibility of thunderstorm

“Residents should expect cloudy sky with possibility of light rain accompanied by thunderstorm and gusty winds during afternoon and evening on Saturday. Similar monsoon conditions are likely to continue during the next few days,” an IMD official said.

According to the forecast, there may be light to moderate rain in Delhi on Sunday morning, followed by rain again in the evening or night. There is also a possibility of storm, lightning and strong winds up to 60 km per hour.

Similar weather is expected on Monday and Tuesday, with generally cloudy skies and intermittent rain.
