IndiGo flight status live: Stranded passengers searching for their luggage near the counter after IndiGo canceled over 400 flights at Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru.

Indigo flight status live: India’s largest airline IndiGo is facing continuous operational disruptions and many flights are expected to be canceled on Saturday as well. In a video message on Friday, the company’s CEO said the number of cancellations today is likely to remain below 1,000. Friday saw the highest number of IndiGo cancellations, rising above 1,000, leaving passengers stranded at airports across the country.

As many flights were canceled or delayed, there was confusion at major airports as frustrated passengers waited for updates and also tried to locate their luggage. Many people expressed their anger on social media over the rapid increase in air fares on several routes.

Here are some key points to know regarding chaos:

Why are Indigo flights getting cancelled?

IndiGo has said the disruptions are due to a “multitude of unexpected operational challenges”, including the rollout of Flight Duty Time Limitation (FDTL).

These rules ensure that pilots and crew get adequate rest between flights, leading to a large number of IndiGo pilots being placed on mandatory rest, at the same time the airline extended its winter schedule on October 26.

Airline fares are skyrocketing amid IndiGo crisis

Passengers affected by the massive cancellation of IndiGo flights across India are now facing a steep hike in fares as they look for other flights.

The price of a one-way, one-stop, economy class SpiceJet ticket from Kolkata to Mumbai for December 6 was so high 90,000, while the Air India ticket from Mumbai to Bhubaneswar was listed Rs 84,485 on the airlines website. Similar fare increase was seen on many other busy routes.

DGCA withdrew FDTL rules, ordered investigation

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Friday postponed its flight duty deadline orders to help stabilize the situation.

The aviation regulator has also constituted a four-member panel to find out the reasons for the disruption. It said the situation suggests potential gaps in internal oversight, operational readiness and compliance planning, which “require an independent examination.”
