Former India batter Mohammad Kaif has urged Mumbai Indians to make full use of Rohit Sharma on the field, instead of restricting him to the Impact Player role.Rohit, who captained MI to five Indian Premier League titles, was largely deployed as an Impact Player last season. This meant his involvement was limited to batting, and according to Kaif, the team missed out on the leadership presence of their seasoned campaigner. Despite the curtailed role, Rohit still managed a solid campaign with 418 runs from 15 matches, averaging 29.86 at a strike rate of 149.29.

The franchise had handed over captaincy duties to Hardik Pandya ahead of IPL 2024. While that season ended in disappointment with MI finishing last, the team bounced back strongly in 2025, progressing to Qualifier 2.Kaif believes Rohit’s reduced role last year was a mistake, especially in high-pressure moments. He pointed to the Qualifier 2 clash against Punjab Kings, where MI fell short despite a match-winning innings from Shreyas Iyer. In that situation, Kaif felt Hardik could have benefited from Rohit’s on-field guidance.

In a post shared on X, Kaif stressed that MI should take advantage of a fitter and leaner Rohit, insisting that the veteran cannot be limited to being just an Impact Player. He highlighted that Rohit’s presence during crucial phases would not only support Hardik’s captaincy but also positively influence his own batting rhythm.“Mumbai Indians should fully utilise the fitter and leaner Rohit Sharma. He can’t be just an impact player, MI will need him in crunch situations. Also his inputs to captain Hardik Pandya will be precious. Last year in Qualifier 2 against Kings XI, when Shreyas Iyer was hitting, Hardik needed Rohit next to him. Full involvement in game will help Rohit the batter too,” Kaif wrote.

Director Maruthi says he is working on next film after The Raja Saab box office debacle: ‘I will put in my best efforts’

2026 started with Prabhas releasing his highly anticipated film The Raja Saab. The horror comedy was touted as the year’s first pan-India film and as the first blockbuster. However, it did not live up to expectations upon release. After a huge opening, the film fizzled out due to extremely bad word of mouth. Director Maruthi has now made his first social media three months later after the release of the film to address fans, sharing that he is starting his next film. Maruthi made his first post after the failure of The Raja Saab to address fans.
Maruthi made his first post after the failure of The Raja Saab to address fans.

Maruthi thanks his audience

On the occasion of Rama Navami, Maruthi shared a picture sitting in front of the idols at his residence. In front of the idols lay the script for his next film, with marigold flowers placed on it. He wrote in the caption, “Every journey is a learning experience. On this auspicious occasion of #SriRamaNavami, I’m grateful to be giving final touches to my next script with His blessings.”

He continued, “A heartfelt thank you to all my audience, well-wishers and the media for constantly supporting me and sharing your valuable feedback. I truly respect each and every one of you. I will put in my best efforts and sincerely strive to earn your appreciation and support.”

The director did not reveal any more details about the cast and story of his next film.

About The Raja Saab

The Raja Saab was reportedly produced on a massive budget of ₹400 crore. Ahead of the film’s release, Maruthi said, “The Telugu audience has seen the entertaining version of Prabhas. But Pan India has never. After coming out of the theatre, you will remember Prabhas from this film for many years. The get-up and everything… it is a great episode… and has never been seen on Indian screen.”

Even though the film went on to earn ₹100 crore gross worldwide on the opening day alone, it suffered a sharp dip in collections in the next few days, managing to collect ₹200 crore. The national box-office loss for the film is estimated at around ₹160-170 crore.

The Raja Saab also starred Niddhi Agerwal, Malavika Mohanan, and Riddhi Kumar. It was released in theatres on January 9.

Gurjant Singh retires: Injury, timing behind India forward’s call

When the 8th Hockey India annual awards was in full flow on Friday, March 27, the Indian men’s and women’s teams appeared with their special off-field jerseys. Amidst that crowd, it was sort of easy to spot Gurjant Singh.

He appeared to be standing out from the crowd in a simple Nehru jacket and his sharp looks. Many were wondering why he looked different to his teammates and the answer soon came. There was a brief pause in proceedings as Gurjant was called on to the dias and the announcement soon followed. The two-time Olympic medallist and one of the finest forwards in recent times decided to quit international hockey.

INTERNATIONAL HOCKEY: FULL COVERAGE

Suddenly, a silence descended upon proceedings before Gurjant lightened up the mood with some laughs alongside his now former teammates, before saying that he was satisfied with his career.
With just 130 appearances to his name and 48 goals, Gurjant felt the time was right to call time on his career.

THE REASON

It is no secret that over the past one year or so, Gurjant has struggled to hold on to his place in the side. Most of it was down to injuries, with his back taking a toll after years of hockey. With the emergence of Abhishek and Sukhjeet Singh, the 31-year-old’s place in the side was gone and he felt put his health ahead of the game.

“Actually I think last year when I was playing in the Pro League, I had a back injury. Even before that, around a month earlier in the gym, I had a back injury. Then I tried to restart a bit quickly and then back-to-back I got injured twice.”

“So that injury was such that it took me at least 7 to 8 months to recover. It was a long time. And in a team game, if you get injured and then come back and you have to perform at the same time when World Cup and games are just a few months away, I think there was a bit of confusion.”

“It was a serious injury and after that I didn’t feel like taking that risk again. Because the national team schedule is very busy, the training atmosphere is very high. Since it took so long to recover, I felt that maybe now I should retire from international hockey,” said Gurjant.

He promised to continue playing in the domestic circuit and the Hockey India League, but most importantly felt it was the right time and claimed that the stage was right.

‘WHY NOT LEAVE ON TOP’

It seemed only like yesterday when Gurjant came in as a young forward from the Jr. team and found instant success. His game was symbolised by his fast goals and it seemed like an artist was at work when he was making that run through the middle.

But, Gurjant believes that no matter how big of a player you are, retirement is inevitable.

“In a player’s life, this time comes for everyone. No matter how well you are playing, one day you have to face retirement,” said Gurjant.

But his mindset was something that felt just right. Leave the game at the top and with a smile on his face.

“My mindset was why not leave when you are playing well, performing well, with medals, instead of leaving with a major injury or performance issues where you go with disappointment. I think leaving happily is better,” said Gurjant.

HEART STAYS IN HOCKEY

While he will now focus on domestics and his government job back in Punjab, coaching isn’t something he will jump into at the moment. But his heart will never wander away from the Indian hockey teams. Now a fan of the team, Gurjant is hoping for World Cup and Asian Games glory for the side.

“A player’s mindset and heart always stays with the team. Whether you are retired or not, your mind always says that the team should win, Indian hockey should win.”

“So obviously even off the field, my mindset will be the same. I will support the team. There are two major tournaments coming up, so the hope is that the team performs well and brings medals,” said Gurjant.

Justin Baldoni scores wins in legal battle with Blake Lively and defamation case against former publicist

‘It Ends With Us’ director, Justin Baldoni, secured another win in his ongoing legal battle with Blake Lively and in a defamation suit against his former publicist, Stephanie Jones.

Justin Baldoni vs Blake Lively lawsuit

In his battle against Lively, Baldoni and his co-defendants secured a win after a Judge Lewis J Liman granted their request to push back key pretrial deadlines, following claims that the actress’s legal team flooded them with a “document dump”, including nearly 1,000 potential exhibits, People reports.“It is difficult to imagine that even half that number would be put before the jury,” the letter filed in the Southern District of New York states. The letter also requests Judge Liman for a Zoom conference and a one-week extension on deadlines to submit pretrial filings. They also asked for the final pretrial conference to be moved a week.

Justin Baldoni’s team asks judge for ‘more time’

They also said that they needed more time to review the materials and finalise jury instructions and other related defences. In a March 26 filing, Lively’s attorneys pushed back on the request, calling it “an incremental tactic to delay the trial.”However, the judge ruled on Baldoni’s request, granting an extension of the deadlines and setting a status conference for April 2.

Justin Baldoni vs Stephanie Jones defamation suit

In another major win, the judge ruled that Baldoni can move forward with his defamation lawsuit against his former publicist, Stephanie Jones. The ruling comes after Jones sought to have the case dismissed. However, the court determined that Wayfarer had presented sufficient grounds for the claims to be examined further.

Court dismisses Stephanie Jones’ request to dismiss case

Baldoni’s attorney, Bryan Freedman, said in a statement to the Page Six, “The court rejected Stephanie Jones’ effort to dismiss the case and will allow Wayfarer’s claims, including defamation, to be tested on a full evidentiary record.”With this, the communications involving several individuals connected to the legal battle, could be examined. This includes Jones, Lively’s publicist Leslie Sloane, and any communication they may have had with Lively and her husband, Ryan Reynolds.

Justin Baldoni’s team messages were leaked

According to the 2025 lawsuit, Wayfarer alleges that Jones “maliciously” leaked private text messages, which ultimately contributed to a series of legal actions tied to the film. Baldoni’s team also alleges that Jones shared damaging information with third parties, including Sloane, Lively and Reynolds.

KL Rahul’s Orange Cap push hinges on key batting reshuffle as Delhi Capitals told to do basic things in IPL 2026

KL Rahul has long been regarded as one of the most dependable performers in the IPL, consistently delivering runs regardless of the franchise he represents. Over the years, he has been a pillar at the top of the order, combining composure with the ability to anchor an innings. However, the past couple of seasons have brought increased scrutiny, particularly around his strike rate, with questions raised about his approach in a format that demands constant acceleration.

It is unclear where KL Rahul will bat in IPL 2026. (IPL/BCCI)

The pressure has only intensified with Rahul being out of India’s T20I plans for nearly three to four years. His last appearance came during the 2022 T20 World Cup, and since then, he has been on the outside looking in, aiming to regain his place in the shortest format setup. Last season, Rahul made a conscious effort to address the criticism by adopting a more attacking style. The change was evident in his returns, as he scored 539 runs in 13 matches at an impressive average of 53.90, striking at 149.72. His tally included a century and three half-centuries, signalling a shift in intent while retaining his consistency.

Meanwhile, seasoned Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has thrown his support behind the Delhi Capitals batter, saying he could have a big season if promoted to the top of the order. Ashwin also felt that a move to open the innings could put him in contention for the Orange Cap.

“There was a match against CSK, where KL Rahul played an exceptional knock on a two-paced pitch. Yet, they never opened with him again for a while after that. Make sure he opens this season. He will have the Orange Cap if he does. Have Pathum Nissanka open with him at the top. Just do these basic things and leave it to the players,” Ashwin said on his YouTube channel.

“Can impact the team in unimaginable ways”

Ashwin offered a candid take on support staff influence, stressing that too many interventions can end up hurting both individual players and the team setup.

“By trying to do too much as a support staff, you can impact the team in unimaginable ways. Ashutosh Sharma produced one amazing knock, but it felt like he never played after that. Suddenly, Sameer Rizvi played a game,” he added.

Sitaare Zameen Par: Aamir Khan says he always wanted to release film on OTT

When Sitaare Zameen Par was initially released in August 2025, it was announced that the film would not be available on streaming platforms, even after its theatrical release. Now, as the film is set to launch on OTT, Aamir Khan recently said that releasing his film on OTT was always part of the strategy. He clarified that while the digital release was planned, he did not want it to happen immediately after the theatrical run.

Aamir Khan always wanted an OTT release for Sitaare Zameen Par

Speaking to PTI, Aamir said, “I was never in two minds. I always wanted an OTT release, but not so quickly after the theatre release. So it is now coming on SonyLIV on April 3, and I want audiences all across the country to enjoy the film. Those who have not had a chance to see it in theatres can now watch it on SonyLIV.”

Aamir revealed that in addition to the feature film, the streaming platform will also release a documentary titled Sitaaron Ke Sitaare. The documentary brings the spotlight to the real-life parents of the neurodivergent actors who starred in the film.

Explaining the idea behind the documentary, Aamir shared, “It`s a very special piece of content because it looks at the real superstars. The Sitaare are the superstars, but the real-life superstars are the parents of these 10 artists who have raised them and taken care of them. So that film really highlights the fact that the parents are the real superstars.”

Sitaare Zameen Par OTT release

A few days ago, Aamir Khan`s production house confirmed that Sitaare Zameen Par, which had earlier skipped an OTT release, will soon begin streaming on SonyLIV.

Apart from Aamir Khan, Sitaare Zameen Par also stars Genelia Deshmukh in a pivotal role. The film features 10 debutant neurodivergent actors, namely, Aroush Datta, Gopi Krishnan Varma, Vedant Sharma, Naman Misra, Rishi Shahani, Rishabh Jain, Ashish Pendse, Samvit Desai, Simran Mangeshkar and Aayush Bhansali. The 2025 film is believed to be a spiritual sequel to the 2007 film Taare Zameen Par.

It earned Rs 265 crore worldwide and was one of the highest-grossing films of last year.

NEW DELHI: Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu on Friday wrote a touching tribute for Spanish badminton legend Carolina Marin. Marin announced her retirement from professional badminton on Thursday, saying she is still dealing with the aftereffects of the serious injury she sustained at Paris 2024. Marin won a gold medal at the Rio Olympics 2016 and is a three-time world champion.Sharing an emotional message for her long-time rival, Sindhu took to Instagram and wrote: “Some rivals become part of your journey forever. Carolina was one of them. We first played each other when we were 15 or 16-year-old girls in the Maldives, and from then on we went on to share so many battles.“To be honest, you were also a complete pain on court. The constant shouting, the intensity, the little tricks, they would get to anyone. But your skill, speed and fighting spirit were second to none,’ Sindhu wrote.Sindhu also recalled a verbal duel between the two shuttlers during the 2023 Denmark Open semifinal, where the chair umpire showed both players a yellow card.“People remember the big matches and even the ugly spat we had in that third set over picking the shuttle. I’ll admit I was completely infuriated that day.“But a few months later we sat across from each other over coffee in Madrid, talking and laughing, and in that moment there was nothing but respect. That’s the Carolina I’ll always remember,” she wrote.“I’ll also always be grateful for the incredible camaraderie our generation built. Our batch of girls made women’s singles such a special place to compete in, and I honestly don’t know if badminton has seen something like it before or will again.“Thank you for every battle, every lesson and most of all the friendship. I wish you the happiest retirement, Carolina. Badminton will miss you. And so will I,” Sindhu concluded.
