MUMBAI: The US move to send a 15-point proposal to Iran aiming at ending the war in West Asia, combined with a slowdown in hostilities between the warring nations on Wednesday sent oil prices sliding and precious metals rallying.In late trades on Wednesday, Brent was trading at $97.2/barrel, down 3% on the day. In the second week of March, Brent had rallied to a multi-year high at close to the $120 mark. Incidentally, during the day, Larry Fink, CEO, BlackRocksaid that if oil prices rise to $150 level, due to supply disruptions in the Gulf region even after the war ends, that could result in a global recession.The war has all but halted shipments of oil and liquefied natural gas through the Strait of Hormuz, which typically carries about one-fifth of the world’s gas and crude supply, causing what the International Energy Agency has called the biggest-ever oil supply disruption, a Reuters report said.In the domestic market, in late trades on MCX, crude oil futures for April delivery was down 3% at Rs 8,475/barrel.Precious metals also saw an uptick as an end or a ceasefire would diminish the fears of energy supply-led disruptions leading to inflation and possibility of rate hikes. In mid-session in the US, gold was trading 3.4% up at $4,551/ounce (Oz) while silver was up 4.7% at $72.8/Oz. In the domestic market, in late trades on MCX, gold futures for April delivery was trading 3.8% up at Rs 1.44 lakh/10gm while silver futures for May delivery was up 4.7% at Rs 2.34 lakh/kg.

Actor Sarah Michelle Gellar escaped a harrowing incident at a luxury hotel in Paris, where she was promoting her upcoming film ‘Ready or Not 2: Here I Come’.As per reports, a fire broke out at the hotel late on Wednesday morning, where Gellar and her co-stars were attending a press junket. The fire originated in the hotel’s kitchen, prompting an emergency evacuation of the hotel’s guests and staff.As per reports, the situation was quickly brought under control, with nearly 100 firefighters deployed to the scene. Three individuals were treated for their injuries. Gellar and her team, however, escaped the incident unharmed.Gellar was in Paris as part of the promotional tour for ‘Ready or Not 2: Here I Come’, which also stars Kathryn Newton and Elijah Wood. The film released in U.S. theatres on March 20 and is scheduled to roll out across Europe in early April.The incident comes amid a busy year for Gellar, who has also been in the spotlight following news that a planned reboot of ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ will no longer move forward. A planned reboot that was set to be directed by Oscar-winning director Chloe Zhao, has been cancelled. “Unfortunately, Hulu has decided not to move forward with ‘Buffy: New Sunnydale’,” Gellar said in a weekend Instagram post.“I am really sad to have to share this, but I wanted you all to hear it from me. I want to thank Chloe Zhao, because I never thought I would find myself back in Buffy’s stylish yet affordable boots,” Gellar said.The new Buffy was announced last year and was set to see Gellar reprise her role as Buffy Summers, who in the original series had been a teenager battling demons and vampires as she navigated high school.

Amid the anticipation, the makers of the Harry Potter series, Warner Bros Discovery, have officially released the first teaser, title and release date at a special event in London. It also marked the launch of HBO Max in the region. Titled Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, the series will debut globally on Christmas 2026.

As the name suggests, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone is adapted from the original book’s name outside the United States. The series is expected to revisit the magical journey of Harry, Ron and Hermione`s first year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

The newly released first teaser gives viewers glimpses into Harry Potter’s early life, including moments of bullying before he discovers his true identity. The teaser also features key characters such as Aunt Petunia, Ron Weasley, Draco Malfoy, Severus Snape, Ollivander, Professor McGonagall and Rubeus Hagrid.

In one of the emotional moments in the teaser, Hagrid is telling Harry, “Your parents were the bravest, kindest people I’ve ever met … they stood up for what they think is right. … Next time I see you will be in Hogwarts.” Ollivander, on the other hand, hints at Harry’s potential, saying, “Mr Potter, I think we can expect great things from you.”

The official logline of the series highlights Harry’s transformation from an ordinary boy to someone entering a world filled with magic, friendship and danger, as he starts confronting a mysterious enemy from his past.

About the Harry Potter series

The series stars Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, with Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. The ensemble cast of the series also includes John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape and Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, among others.

The Succession duo Francesca Gardiner and Mark Mylod are leading the project, where Gardiner serves as writer and showrunner, while Mylod directs multiple episodes. The Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone series is based on J.K. Rowling’s bestselling books, with the author also attached as an executive producer alongside Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts and David Heyman.

The show is gearing up to stream exclusively on HBO Max in regions where the platform is available, including newly added regions like Germany, Italy, the UK and Ireland.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared that the folklore-driven thriller will arrive in cinemas on August 28, coinciding with Raksha Bandhan. Filmmaker Zoya Akhtar has teased a new project, titled A Perfect Match, as she shared a glimpse of the script on her social media. The upcoming project will be directed by Kho Gaye Hum Kahan (2023) director Arjun Varain Singh and is created by Zoya. The picture of the draft also had ‘Pilot’ and ‘Writer’s draft’ written over it. “Kabir and Navya. Stay tuned,” read the caption. On the work front, Zoya has reportedly completed the first draft of the sequel to Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (2011).

An undying friendship

Veteran actor Shabana Azmi penned a heartfelt birthday tribute to her college friend, late Farooque Shaikh on March 25. Recalling decades of friendship, in a social media post, she wrote, “My college mate, co-founder of Hindi Natya Manch at St Xaviers, thank you for seeing me through so many exams, filling my pens with ink so I don’t run out during writing, ever present when I was unwell but teasing me endlessly and never saying a kind word.” The two actors had co-starred in the popular play Tumhari Amrita, directed by Feroz Abbas Khan. Chennai Super Kings are set to shake up their batting order in the Indian Premier League 2026, captain Ruturaj Gaikwad revealed. Speaking on the sidelines of the IPL captains’ day event, Gaikwad said that Ayush Mhatre will not be opening for the franchise this season.

Asked about the batting line-up, the CSK captain said that he will open the innings alongside newly signed Sanju Samson in the upcoming season. This marks a significant change for the five-time champions, who had trusted youngster Ayush Mhatre to provide rapid starts last season.

Chennai Super Kings went through multiple batting order changes in their horrific 2025 season. The eventually got rid of Rachin Ravindra, Rahul Tripathi, and Deepak Hooda from their line-up and brought in fresh talents – youngsters Ayush Mhatre and Dewald Brevis.

Both youngsters found incredible success in the team, providing the team some aggressive intent. While Brevis is expected to retain his position at No.4/5 this season, Mhatre might have to drop down to No.3 to accommodate senior batter and T20 World Cup 2026 hero Sanju Samson.

Earlier, former CSK player Ravichandran Ashwin had spoken about how he wanted to see the duo of Ruturaj and Sanju open the innings in IPL 2026.

“There is pedigree with Ruturaj Gaikwad and Sanju Samson. Pedigree means you making quality runs and sustaining that for a period of time. We must not forget that. For me, I would love to see both of them go hammer and tongs at the opening slot. Both of them have different strengths. One is a caresser of the ball, while the other guy hits it hard so both of those qualities are there. So I will look at it in that fashion that I have two good openers,” said Ashwin on his Youtube Channel.

Chennai Super Kings play their opening game of the IPL 2026 season against Rajasthan Royals. The match is scheduled to be played on March 30, at 7:30 pm IST.

The actor was also seen happily posing for photographs with fans before leaving for her destination. Priyanka later took to Instagram and shared a map showing a flight from Delhi to Amritsar. NEW DELHI: The empowered group of officials to deal with the fallout of the West Asia conflict got down to business on Wednesday, and began mapping the demand and supply situation, and also started identifying potential sources to ensure that supply chains are not disrupted.Food and fuel availability are top priority and detailed reports have been sought, including from the states. At the same time, when it comes to fuel, the panel led by petroleum secretary Neeraj Mittal is studying industry consumption trends and comparing it with the availability levels.Products are being identified where there are disruptions and sources are being studied along with measures – including possible duty cuts – in a bid to keep industries going without burdening them and consumers with a significant increase in prices. Chemicals, pharma and petrochemicals have been identified as areas where there is a need to augment supplies.Govt had set up seven empowered groups on Tuesday. For most businesses, gas has been an area of concern, which is sought to be addressed, especially with petroleum minister Hardeep Puri telling an all-party meeting on Wednesday that the curbs on commercial cooking gas cylinders are temporary.While govt has tapped alternate markets, such as Surinam, Guyana, Canada and the US to get LNG, getting LPG (cookig gas) has been more challenging as India relied on imports to meet 60% of its demand with 90% of the quantities coming from West Asia.Although govt is working to get supplies from other countries, there will be a lag in organising the required quantities of fuel. For instance, it takes around 11 days from ships to deliver goods from the Gulf region and 36-37 days from Russia. From the US and Canada, the sail time can be 40-45 days. Supplies are expected to normalise once oil companies align production with the new cycle.For the moment, they are focusing on tapping as many sources as possible. Over the last few years, starting 2023, India had stepped up purchases from Russia, which was a source for around 1.5% of the crude around four years ago. After acquiring more than 30% share, they accounted for nearly 20% of the pie in Feb. With sanctions on Rosneft and Lukoil lifted, Russian oil share is expected to move up again, with some quantities from Iran also adding to the supply.

India’s ace fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah is apparently at the Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru for strengthening and conditioning purposes.

There are reports that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)’s medical team has come up with a plan for him, having the white-ball tour to England later this year in mind. There are 8 matches in all, and three of them are ODIs.

Every now and then, Bumrah heads to the CoE for assessment. There, he goes through a thorough check-up, and if there are any issues, injuries or biomechanics-related, a plan is devised for him to fix those problems.

The CoE is one of the reasons why Bumrah has been able to stay at his best all these years. Despite all sorts of injuries, he is bowling as fast as he did when he was much younger.

However, with the 19th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) to kick off two days later, it’s a little surprising that the 32-year-old is at the CoE right now. Bumrah has given his availability for the entire season for five-time champions Mumbai Indians, and their season kicks off on March 29 as they host Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium.

One would hope Bumrah’s visit to the CoE is a routine visit. He is India’s greatest fast bowler to date, and in the recently concluded T20 World Cup, he completed his 500 international wickets.

His bowling in the last three matches of the event for India, against West Indies, England and New Zealand (in this order) was pivotal to India winning back-to-back titles. Two years ago, in the 2024 T20 World Cup in the USA and the West Indies, Bumrah was Player of the Tournament as India claimed their first T20 World Cup trophy since 2007, also their first ICC trophy since their Champions Trophy win in 2013.

In recent years, he has been used carefully. He is one of the very few players in the Indian set-up that plays all three formats. So, he only features in important matches or series. Even during an important Test series like the away one against England last year, he has been rested to ensure he doesn’t injure himself. Last year, he had to miss the Champions Trophy because he was nursing an injury that he had picked up on India’s tour to Australia, in the series’ last Test.
