Akshay Kumar on age-gap love story with Wamiqa Gabbi in Bhooth Bangla: ‘Toh kya hai? Pehle dekha nahi kya?’

Lately there has been a lot of debate around the age-gap between two actors romancing onscreen in a film. We witnessed the same when 20-year-old Sara Arjun was cast opposite Ranveer Singh, 40, in Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar. Or when Rashmika Mandanna, 29, played the wife of Salman Khan, 60, in Sikandar. In a recent interview, while promoting his next film, Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar, 58, shared his views on the same. Up next, he will be seen opposite 32-year-old Wamiqa Gabbi in the much-awaited Priyadarshan horror comedy Bhooth Bangla.

In a chat with News 18, sharing his thoughts on age-gap onscreen love stories, Akshay Kumar said, “Toh kya hai? Humne pehle dekha nahi hai kya kabhi? It happens in Hollywood as well. Sometimes, it’s the requirement of the script. (In real life too), so many people get married to partners older or younger than them.” Talking about his co-star Wamiqa Gabbi, Akshay shared, “I first met Wamiqa when we were shooting for Bhooth Bangla. She works very differently. She keeps reading her scenes and rehearsing for them. She gets very serious. Tabu is more serious than her. Vidya, who I’m working with in Anees Bazmee ji’s film, on the other hand, believes in being a free actor.”

Sharing his views on the age-gap debate, filmmaker Priyadarshan also shared, “There’s something that people like MGR and NTR used to say… that there’s a big difference between chronological age and screen age. An actor’s screen age may not be his real age. but people accept you for your screen age too. I don’t see any issue there. When I shoot, I may look at a pair and feel like it isn’t the right pair (and that may have nothing to do with their age gap). When I shoot with Akshay or Tabu, I never feel (an issue) looking at them. And once audiences watch the film, I notice that they don’t feel that issue either. That’s because of their characters and their screen age.”

Also starring Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav, Tabu and the late Asrani, Bhooth Bangla is set to arrive in theatres on April 10. The film marks Akshay and Priyadarshan’s reunion 14 years after their last collaboration, Khatta Meetha (2010). Akshay and Priyadarshan’s upcoming film, which marks their second horror comedy together, also has a special connection to their first horror comedy film Bhool Bhulaiyaa (2007) — both the films have been shot at the Chomu Palace in Jaipur.

RCB, MI, or CSK? England's cricket legends predict IPL 2026 winners

NEW DELHI: With IPL 2026 just around the corner, former England cricketers have shared their predictions on who might lift the trophy, sparking debate among fans. While teams like Mumbai Indians (MI), Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are all in the mix, opinions differ on who has the edge this season.Former England captain Michael Vaughan is confident about Mumbai Indians’ chances and didn’t hold back, saying, “Only 1 team wining this year and it’s @mipaltan.”

He also doubled down on the “Stick to Cricket” podcast, adding, “I’ll throw the first name out there. Mumbai Indians will win it this year. They have not won it for a few. They’ve got an incredible team.”MI, one of the most successful teams in IPL history, will be led by Hardik Pandya this season. With experienced players like Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah in the squad, they are expected to be strong contenders despite falling short in the playoffs last year. Not everyone agrees with Vaughan. Alastair Cook has backed defending champions RCB to retain their title, putting his faith in the team setup and coaching of Andy Flower. Phil Tufnell initially agreed with RCB but later leaned towards CSK as another strong option due to the Sanju Samson factor.RCB, however, could face early challenges with key players like Yash Dayal unavailable and Josh Hazlewood set to miss initial matches due to fitness issues. Historically, only MI and CSK have successfully defended IPL titles, so RCB will be aiming to join that elite list this season.

Priyadarshan reveals Farah Khan doubted Vidya Balan's dance skills, later praised for 'Mere Dholna'
Priyadarshan, prepping Bhooth Bangla, recalls Bhool Bhulaiyaa’s ‘Mere Dholna’. Vidya Balan overcame Farah Khan’s dance doubts after 35-40 days’ practice, earning praise. She matched Vineeth’s energy, cherishing the validation. The iconic track and her Manjulika role made the film a horror hit.

Ahead of Bhooth Bangla’s release, Priyadarshan revisited his blockbuster ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa’ in a recent interview. Focusing on Vidya Balan‘s electrifying ‘Mere Dholna’ performance, the film’s highlight, he remembered her initial hesitation over her dance skills.

Priyadarshan reveals Farah Khan doubted Vidya Balan

Priyadarshan told Variety India how Farah Khan, the filmmaker-choreographer, had dismissed Vidya’s dancing skills, until ‘Mere Dholna’ hit screens, prompting Khan’s admiring call. The director remembered, “There was a time when people used to think that Vidya (Balan) could not dance. And she told me, ‘I will take it as a big challenge.’ Vidya practised for 35–40 days just to do this song.”The director added that Vidya acted with Vineeth Radhakrishnan, one of India’s best classical dancers, and said, “She matched his energy. And one day, Vidya came and told me, ‘I will never forget this song in my life because someone who once told me I cannot dance, Farah Khan, has appreciated me for it.’ And Shobhana also called and praised. She said, ‘I will never be able to repeat it, but this is the best thing you have done for me.’ So this is something I remember very well.”‘Mere Dholna’ turned into one of Bollywood’s most iconic tracks and a key highlight of the movie. Vidya Balan earned huge praise for nailing the sequence with fine details.

‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa’ plot summary

Priyadarshan’s ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa’ drew viewers into a creepy old palace in Rajasthan haunted by spirits. Chopra speaks about Lucknow Super Giants` captain Rishabh Pant ahead of season

The IPL 2026 is all set to kick off from March 28. So far, the schedule of only first 20 matches has been released due to state elections.

Ahead of the marquee tournament, former Team India cricketer Aakash Chopra said that Lucknow Super Giants` (LSG) captain Rishabh Pant sees the game differently from most of the people.

“We sometimes fail to understand what Rishabh Pant brings to the table and how he sees the game unfold. In Test cricket, he had conversations with Rahul Dravid when he was the Head Coach. Rahul bhai was not very happy with Pant`s batting approach. To give credit where it`s due, Pant sees the game very differently from most of us who see it conventionally,” he said.

The former cricketer then said that it is heartening for him that the left-handed batsman has accepted that he needs to change something in his game. He also said that Pant`s approach to legendary Team India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh shows his need for guidance and assistance.

“But the most heartening thing for me is his acceptance that he needs to change something in his game. He needs to look for a blueprint. Something is not going right. He knows he is that good. The fact that he has approached Yuvraj Singh for help shows he acknowledges that he needs guidance, help and assistance. That is a great sign. With the quality, talent and skills he has, it is a travesty that he is not killing it in white-ball cricket,” said Chopra.

LSG will begin their IPL 2026 campaign by playing a clash against Delhi Capitals (DC) on April 1 at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.

Sony released the trailer for Brand New Day on March 17, and within four days, it reached one billion views. According to WaveMetrix, the number has crossed 1.1 billion by Tuesday, making it the first movie trailer in history to cross this mark.

Deadpool & Wolverine’s teaser trailer had set an all-time record in February 2024 by amassing 365 million views after its Super Bowl debut. It had beaten the record held by Spider-Man: No Way Home’s trailer, which had 355.5 million views in a day. Brand New Day beat those records by raking in 718.6 million views in 24 hours, also beating video game Grand Theft Auto VI’s massive 475 million record.

Brand New Day is scheduled to release in theatres on July 31 as a follow-up to No Way Home, which grossed $1.9 billion worldwide during its 2021 release. It is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, Michael Mando and Mark Ruffalo. Four years later, he protects New York from a new threat while undergoing an evolution he did not foresee. He seeks out Bruce Banner/Hulk’s help, but might have to find a way to navigate through it all with no support. After watching the trailer, the internet threw out alternate titles for the film, such as ‘Spiderman: Far from okay’ and ‘Spider-Man: Broke, depressed, alone, heartbroken.’

This is the fourth Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) Spider-Man film by Sony Pictures after Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017), Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019) and Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) as part of Phase Six of the MCU.

5th T20I: Connor Esterhuizen's blitzkrieg helps South Africa secure series in New Zealand
South Africa win series in New Zealand

South Africa beat New Zealand by 33 runs in the final T20 to seal the series 3-2, thanks to a powerful knock from Connor Esterhuizen. Chasing 188, New Zealand struggled throughout and finished on 154-8, unable to keep up with the rising required run rate.Winning the toss and opting to bowl first, South Africa had a slow start but turned things around in the second half of their innings.

Esterhuizen led the charge with a brilliant 75 off 33 balls, hitting boundaries with ease and accelerating the scoring. He built a quick partnership with Dian Forrester as the team piled on runs in the last 10 overs.“I think the nice thing was that I got to come in and play with some freedom because of the nice platform from the guys up top with wickets in hand,” Esterhuizen said. “Early on the openers assessed it and said 160 was competitive. The more myself and (Forrester) was out there we said 170 was a good score and we got 187.”

New Zealand fall short in chase

In reply, New Zealand never really got going. Regular wickets and tight bowling kept them under pressure, and the required run rate kept climbing. Despite some late hitting, they were left needing too many runs in the final overs.South Africa’s bowlers, including Gerald Coetzee and Ottneil Baartman, kept things under control, while disciplined fielding added to New Zealand’s problems. Poor shot selection and missed chances meant the hosts couldn’t recover, handing South Africa a comfortable win and the series.

Cabinet extends IVFRT 3.0 scheme for 5 years to make immigration faster, safer and more efficient

The Union Cabinet has approved continuation of the Immigration, Visa, Foreigners Registration and Tracking (IVFRT) scheme for another five years from April 1, 2026, with a budget outlay of Rs 1,800 crore, in a move aimed at strengthening border management and improving services for legitimate foreign travellers, the government said. The extension — not a fresh approval of the project — seeks to build on an existing digital immigration platform that interlinks visa issuance, immigration clearance and foreigners’ registration functions within a secure and integrated framework. The initiative, first cleared in 2010 and extended in subsequent phases, is intended to modernise immigration processes in line with evolving travel demands and emerging security challenges, officials said.According to the government, the next phase will focus on expanding the scope and capacity of the system by adopting “state-of-the-art technological solutions” and revamping infrastructure while maintaining a strong security architecture. The continuation follows the enactment of the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025, which has increased the need for a more resilient and technologically advanced immigration ecosystem. The scheme will concentrate on three broad areas — emerging technology innovations, transformation of core infrastructure and optimisation of technology-enabled service delivery. Officials said the modernisation will involve mobile-based services, self-service kiosks, unified digital platforms and upgraded data centres to ensure seamless passenger movement and real-time data sharing among authorised agencies. The government said IVFRT has already brought measurable improvements in visa processing and immigration clearance over the past decade. “The system has enabled a 100% contactless and faceless visa process with online appointment scheduling and payment facilities,” it noted, adding that over 91% of e-visa applications have been processed within 72 hours in recent years.Average passenger clearance time at immigration checkpoints has fallen to about 2.5-3 minutes, including biometric verification, compared with around five to six minutes under earlier manual processes. At selected airports, automated e-gates under the Fast Track Immigration-Trusted Traveller Programme have further reduced clearance time to about 30 seconds for eligible travellers, the government said.Coverage under the platform has expanded steadily. The system now spans 117 immigration posts, 15 Foreigners Regional Registration Offices and 854 district-level registration authorities across the country, enabling wider digital integration of immigration-related services.Officials said the continuation of IVFRT is expected to have broader economic implications by facilitating international mobility and improving ease of doing business. Enhanced service delivery and security assurance are likely to benefit sectors such as tourism, aviation, hospitality, trade and medical travel. The government emphasised that the modernisation drive is “not just a technical upgrade, but a strategic transformation” aimed at promoting a world-class immigration and visa system while supporting economic growth and employment generation.Over time, the platform has evolved from offering only a handful of digital services to providing more than 30 immigration-related services, reflecting the growing scale and sophistication of India’s immigration management framework. The extended phase is expected to deepen this transition by further integrating processes and enhancing user experience without compromising national security objectives, the government said.

Project Hail Mary denied IMAX screens in India due to Dhurandhar 2?

Project Hail Mary, starring Ryan Gosling, was released worldwide (except India) on March 19. The film saw a week’s delay in India as the makers felt it was best not to clash directly with Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar 2. Its India release is now scheduled for March 26. However, fans eagerly awaiting the film are disappointed. The Hollywood sci-fi drama has not been allotted a single IMAX screen in India. While tickets are available on platforms for 2D and 4DX formats, no IMAX screens have listed the film yet.

Fans express anger over no IMAX screens for PHM

Why is it a big deal? Project Hail Mary is among the few films shot specifically for IMAX and is reportedly a visual spectacle best experienced in that format. As of the evening of March 25, no IMAX screens in India had listed the film.

Sources suggest the film has been unable to secure IMAX screens due to the tremendous box office performance of Ranveer Singh-starrer Dhurandhar 2. This has left fans upset, prompting many to take to social media to express their frustration. Several users tagged theatre chains while voicing disappointment over the lack of IMAX screenings.

Preetham Daniel, on Wednesday, posted about the film`s release in IMAX on his X account. He is the Vice President of IMAX corporation in several regions including India. However, he seems to be unaware of IMAX screens not being allocated to the sci-fi film.

Reponding to his post, a user said that there are no IMAX screens to the film. “Which theatre?” replied Daniel. However, there was no update after that.

Check how fans are reacting to no IMAX screens for film:

More about Project Hail Mary

Based on the bestselling novel by Andy Weir (author of The Martian), the film follows Ryland Grace (played by Ryan Gosling), a lone astronaut who wakes up aboard a mysterious spacecraft with no memory of who he is or the mission that brought him there. The much-awaited film will release in cinemas across India on March 26, 2026.

Directed by acclaimed filmmakers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, sources close to the unit say Project Hail Mary promises a thrilling blend of science, spectacle, and heartfelt storytelling.

Speaking about the film, Gosling recently said, “It’s an insanely ambitious story that’s massive in scope, and it seemed really hard to make, and that’s kind of our bag.” He added, “This is why we go to the movies. And I’m not just saying it because I’m in it. I’m also saying it because I’m a producer on the film.”

Featuring a strong supporting cast including Sandra Hüller, Lionel Boyce, Ken Leung, and Milana Vayntrub, the film combines scale, emotion, and gripping adventure in a cinematic experience designed for the big screen.

From Amazon MGM Studios and distributed by Sony Pictures International Releasing, the Ryan Gosling-starrer will release in India in English, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu across IMAX and other premium large formats.
