Don’t buy a microwave before reading this: 7 Mistakes Most Buyers Make Too Late Our top picks for you

How do you buy a microwave? You go online, look at some deals, choose the one that suits your budget and place the order. And just like that, many people buy the wrong microwave. Some people realize that it does not suit their cooking needs. Others find it too small, too complex, or simply not useful enough. In many homes, the microwave becomes just a reheating box, or worse, lying unused in a corner.

If you’re planning to buy one, it’s important to understand what you really need. This guide will help you avoid common mistakes and choose a microwave that really suits your kitchen and lifestyle.

Do you even need a microwave?

Before considering the features and types, ask yourself a simple question – do you really need a microwave?

The microwave is useful, but not everyone uses it the same way. If your main purpose is to reheat food, almost any basic model will do the job. If you enjoy cooking or want to try baking, your needs will be very different.

Some people buy a microwave thinking that they will use it daily, but later realize that they prefer cooking on a gas stove or using an air fryer. So, understanding your usage is the first step.

If you:

  • Reheat most leftovers – a simple microwave is sufficient
  • Want to grill or toast – see more features
  • Enjoy baking a cake or pizza – choose an advanced option

Knowing this will save you both money and regrets.

types of microwave

The biggest reason people get confused is the different types of microwaves available. Let’s break them down in the simplest way possible.

solo microwave

This is the most basic type. It is ideal for reheating food, defrosting frozen items and simple cooking tasks.

It is also the most affordable option and is perfect for small families or individuals who do not need advanced features.

Best Solo Mircowave Oven to Buy on Amazon

grill microwave

A grill adds microwave grilling functionality. You can make dishes like paneer tikka, sandwiches and grilled vegetables.

This is a good option if you want a little more flexibility without spending a lot.

Best Grill Mircowave Oven to Buy on Amazon

convection microwave

This is the most advanced and versatile type. It can bake, grill, roast, and cook all in one appliance.

If you love baking cakes, pizza or experimenting in the kitchen, this is the best choice. It may cost more, but it replaces many devices.

Size matters: choosing the right capacity

Capacity is another important factor that many buyers overlook.

Microwaves come in different sizes, and choosing the wrong microwave can cause daily inconvenience.

  • 17-20 litres: ideal for individuals or couples
  • 21-30 litres: Suitable for medium-sized families
  • 30 liters and above: Best for larger families or baking needs

Also, consider the space of your kitchen. A large microwave may look attractive, but it must fit comfortably on your kitchen counter.

The features you really need (and the ones you don’t)

Modern microwaves come with a long list of features. But not all of them are useful.

Must Have Features:

  • Auto Cook Menu for quick cooking
  • defrost function for frozen food
  • Timer and preset settings
  • These features make everyday use easier and more convenient.

Features you may not need:

  • Lots of auto menus you’ll never use
  • Complex touch panels that are difficult to understand

Sometimes, simple controls are better, especially for daily use. Don’t be attracted by features that look impressive but don’t add real value.

Power consumption and performance

Power plays an important role in how efficiently your microwave works.

Most microwaves come with a power rating between 800W and 1200W. Higher wattage means faster cooking, but it may also consume more power.

For regular home use:

  • 800-1000W is good for basic tasks
  • 1000-1200W is better for fast cooking and advanced use

It is important to choose the right balance between performance and power consumption.

Build quality and design

A microwave is a long-term appliance, so build quality matters.

Look for:

  • Durable interior parts like stainless steel or ceramic coating
  • Strong and smooth door mechanism
  • Easy-to-use control panel

You will also find two main control types

mechanical knob: Simple and easy to use

Touch Panel: Looks modern but may take time to get used to

Choose one that is comfortable for you.

Common Mistakes Made by Buyers

Many people make similar mistakes while buying a microwave. Avoiding these can make a big difference.

Shop based on price only

It’s easy to pick the cheapest microwave during a sale, but you often end up regretting it. Many budget models lack essential features like grilling or baking. What seems like smart savings initially may turn out to be limited later, forcing you to upgrade and spend more again.

Ignoring capacity and kitchen space

Capacity may not seem important at first, but it affects daily use. A small microwave may not be suitable for larger utensils, while a larger microwave may not be suitable for your kitchen. Many buyers realize this only after purchase, when adjustments become inconvenient and frustrating over time.

choosing the wrong type

Not understanding the difference between a solo, grill, and convection microwave often leads to a wrong choice. Some people buy basic models and want baking features later, while others spend excessively on advanced models they rarely use, making the purchase seem unnecessary or poorly planned.

Not checking power and performance

Wattage directly affects how fast and efficiently your microwave operates. A lower-powered model may take longer for basic tasks, while a higher-wattage model may be unnecessary for simple use. Ignoring this detail can lead to either slow performance or inefficient energy usage over time.

Getting influenced by discounts and offers

Big discounts and festive deals can create pressure to buy early. Many people buy a microwave just because it is on sale, without checking whether it suits their needs or not. A low price does not guarantee value if the product does not match your daily use or expectations.

Ignoring ease of use

Some microwaves come with complex touch panels and many settings that look impressive but are difficult to use daily. If basic functions seem confusing or time-consuming, the tool loses its convenience. Simple, user-friendly controls often provide a better and more practical experience over time.

Not thinking about long term use

A microwave is a long-term appliance, yet many buyers only think about their current needs. Over time, the use may change, such as baking or grilling. Choosing something too basic or too advanced without clarity can lead to dissatisfaction and low usage in the long run.

Budget Guide: How Much Should You Spend on a Microwave

Microwaves are available in different price ranges.

₹5,000- ₹8,000: Basic Solo Microwave

₹8,000- ₹12,000: Grill Microwave

₹12,000 and above: convection microwave

Instead of going for the cheapest option, focus on value for money. Spending a little more on the right features can save you from having to upgrade later.

Final Checklist Before Buying a Microwave

Before making your final decision, take a quick look at this checklist:

  • Have you chosen the right type?
  • What capacity is suitable for your family?
  • Does it fit your kitchen?
  • What features are useful for your needs?
  • Is the power level appropriate?

<b>Soccer star Jorginho Frello slams Chappell Roan, says she ‘doesn’t deserve’ fans’ affection after daughter’s upsetting encounter</b>
During an unexpected episode at Lollapalooza Brazil, Brazilian footballer Jorginho Frello claimed that singer Chappel Roan directed a bodyguard to confront his young daughter in an aggressive manner. The incident occurred after Frello’s 11-year-old daughter, thrilled by the presence of Roan at a hotel breakfast, merely glanced in the musician’s direction.

Brazilian Soccer star Jorginho Frello is calling out singer-songwriter Chappel Roan. Jorginho has alleged that Roan sent a security guard to accuse his 11-year-old daughter of harassment, leaving the kid in tears.

Jorginho narrates the upsetting interaction

Frello shared a lengthy post to his Instagram Stories on Saturday about the situation, where he said that he “went through a very upsetting situation with my family earlier.”He wrote that his wife and 11-year-old daughter were attending Lollapalooza Brazil, and his child “made a sign because she was so happy to see an artist she really admires, or used to admire.” “By coincidence, they’re staying at the same hotel as this artist. During breakfast, the artist walked past their table. My daughter, like any child, recognised her, got excited, and just wanted to make sure it really was her,” he wrote. “And the worst part is she didn’t even approach her. She simply walked past the singer’s table, looked to confirm it was her, smiled, and went back to sit with her mum. She didn’t say anything, didn’t ask for anything.”

Jorginho Frello alleges that Chappel Roan’s bodyguard threatened his family

The soccer star wrote that “what happened next was completely disproportionate,” explaining that “a large security guard came over to their table while they were still having breakfast and began speaking in an extremely aggressive manner to both my wife and daughter, saying that she shouldn’t allow my daughter to ‘disrespect’ or ‘harass’ other people.”“Honestly, I don’t know at what point simply walking past a table and looking to see if someone is there can be considered harassment,” Frello continued. “He even said he would file a complaint against them with the hotel, while my 11-year-old daughter was sitting there in tears. My daughter was extremely shaken and cried a lot.”He then tagged Roan’s Instagram account and wrote a message in all-caps: “WITHOUT YOUR FANS, YOU WOULD BE NOTHING. AND TO THE FANS, SHE DOES NOT DESERVE YOUR AFFECTION.” Harding also reposted her husband’s statements about Roan, which included a picture of his daughter’s fan-made sign for Roan’s performance, on Instagram Stories. The sign included a nod to the pop star’s popular song ‘HOT TO GO!’

Director Ra Karthik and actor Priyanka Mohan are loving the cultural crossover their film Made in Korea brings to the table. The drama follows a young woman obsessed with all things Korean, and blends two worlds through a shared love for cinema and pop culture. If Indians can’t get enough of K-dramas, BTS, K-pop, and K-food, South Koreans, it seems, are equally smitten with Aamir Khan and the film, 3 Idiots (2009), Mohan told PTI. Karthik revealed that the idea stemmed from a more personal space — his wife’s deep love for Korean culture, from kimchi to Korean buns she would whip up at home.

Should you invest in bonds? What factors can enable it?| Business News

According to a Ministry of Finance press release dated January 2026, India’s corporate bond market saw impressive growth in the last decade. The outstanding issuances increased from Rs. 17.5 lakh crores in FY 2015 to Rs. 53.6 lakh crores in FY 2025. The annual growth rate has been around 12%. The financial year 2025 saw fresh issuances of Rs. 9.9 lakh crores, the highest-ever.

Corporate bond fund raising now complements bank credit. During April to December 2025, the debt market accounted for over 63% of the total resource mobilisation from the primary market. With so many corporates raising funds through bond issuances and the bond markets presenting so many investment opportunities, should retail investors like you and me invest in bonds? In this article, we will explore investing in bonds and the factors that can enable it.

Investing in bonds

Some reasons why an individual must consider investing in bonds include the following.

  1. Asset allocation

An individual must build a diversified investment portfolio by allocating funds across different asset classes. Each asset class plays a distinct role.

  1. Domestic equity is for growth.
  2. Fixed income is for stability and regular cash flows
  3. Gold is a hedge against inflation and a safe haven during uncertainty
  4. International equity is for growth, exposure to international companies not listed in India, a hedge against country-specific risk, and INR depreciation

As mentioned above, an individual must allocate a part of their investment towards fixed-income products. These can include bank fixed deposits, Government and corporate bonds, EPF, Government small savings schemes, etc.

As part of fixed-income allocation, the individual can consider investing in bonds. When equities are volatile, fixed income can provide the much-needed stability to the overall investment portfolio. When equities are falling in the short term, fixed income can act as a shock absorber, cushioning the overall investment portfolio. With asset allocation, an individual can build a diversified investment portfolio that can deliver better risk-adjusted returns.

  1. Regular and predictable cash flows

At the time of bond issuance, the issuer specifies the bond face value, coupon rate, and other details. Post issuance, the bond may be listed on the stock exchanges. Bond prices fluctuate based on factors such as market interest rates, demand and supply, etc.

As bond prices change, yields change. However, the coupon remains unchanged, and the issuer continues to pay at the specified coupon rate at the specified frequency. For example, suppose the bond has a face value of Rs. 100 and the coupon rate is 8%. The bond issuer will pay Rs. 8 annually. If the coupon payment frequency is half-yearly, the bond issuer will pay Rs. 4 at half-yearly intervals.

So, if an individual is looking for regular, predictable cash flows, bonds can provide them. Depending on the frequency of cash flows required, an individual can select bonds. For example, a retired individual or someone seeking a monthly income can invest in a bond that pays monthly interest. Similarly, if someone needs quarterly, half-yearly, or yearly cash flows, they can choose the bonds accordingly.

  1. Investment opportunities

As India’s GDP grows at a faster rate, many entities are turning to bond markets to raise funds for various purposes. These include Central Government, State Governments, Municipal Corporations, private and public sector banks, public sector enterprises, corporates, etc.

In Budget 2026, the Central Government announced borrowing of Rs. 11.7 lakh crore through dated securities (G-secs). As of March 2026, the 10-year G-sec is offering a yield of around 6.50% which is better than or at par with fixed deposit interest rates of many banks.

The bonds of State Governments (SDLs) offer higher yields than the Central Government G-secs. Budget 2026 announced incentives for Municipalities raising funds through bond issuances. So, in 2026 and beyond, we may see more bond issuances from Municipal Corporations. They offer higher yields than the Central and State Governments.

Apart from Governments, we will see corporates tapping the bond markets to raise funds for various purposes. In the earlier section, we saw that the corporate bond market has grown around 12% annually in the last decade. The financial year 2025 saw fresh issuances of Rs. 9.9 lakh crores, the highest-ever.

We can expect this trend to continue, with Governments and corporates tapping the bond markets for raising funds. It gives investors a wide variety of bonds to choose from for investment. The investors can choose bonds based on issuer (Government, PSU, bank, corporate), credit rating, coupon rate, coupon payment frequency, availability of collateral, tenure, etc., or a combination of these.

  1. Emergence of bond investing platforms

In the earlier section, we saw that many entities, such as Central, State, and Municipal Governments, PSUs, banks, and corporates are tapping the bond markets to raise funds. For a retail investor, keeping track of all issuers can be challenging.

Online Bond Platform Providers (OBPPs) solve this challenge for retail investors. The OBPPs are SEBI-regulated intermediaries that function as marketplaces, listing bonds from various issuers at a single place.

A retail investor needs to do a one-time registration, log in to the dashboard, and view the listed fixed-income securities. They can check the details of a bond and decide whether to invest. So, the OBPPs have made it easier for retail investors to check the bonds from various issuers available for investing and proceed with them.

Some of the OBPPs registered with the NSE include the following:

  1. Bondbazaar Securities Pvt. Ltd.
  2. Grip Broking Pvt. Ltd.
  3. Fourdegreewater Services Pvt. Ltd. (Wint Wealth)
  4. India Bond Pvt. Ltd. (IndiaBonds)
  5. Jiraaf Platform Pvt. Ltd.
  6. Launchpad Fintech Pvt. Ltd. (BondsIndia)
  7. Aspero Markets Pvt. Ltd.
  8. Raise Securities Pvt. Ltd. (Dhan)
  9. Sustvest Broking Pvt. Ltd. (BondScanner)

With digitisation, an investor from any part of the country can log in to the OBPP website/App and invest in any bond listed. The Government and the capital market regulator, SEBI, have simplified KYC norms to make it simpler for retail investors to invest in bonds. Once an investor has completed their centralised KYC, they can invest in bonds through any OBPP.

How much should you invest?

We have discussed various reasons for investing in bonds, such as higher interest rates than those of most other fixed-income products, asset allocation and portfolio diversification, easy access through OBPPs, higher number of investment opportunities, etc. To decide which bonds to invest in and what percentage of your portfolio to allocate to bonds, consult a financial advisor. A financial advisor will evaluate your risk profile and other factors and recommend the percentage of portfolio allocation to bonds and which bonds to invest in.

Bangladesh choose India over Ireland; BCB clears September window for long-awaited series vs neighbours: Report

Bangladesh choose India over Ireland; BCB clears September window for long-awaited series vs neighbours: Report

Bangladesh’s decision to defer their September tour of Ireland has effectively cleared the way for India’s long-delayed white-ball series in the country, with the six-match visit now shaping up as one of the most significant assignments in Bangladesh’s calendar ahead of the 2027 ODI World Cup. As reported by Cricbuzz, Bangladesh were due to travel to Ireland later this year, but the series has now been pushed back after the India tour was moved into that same window.

BCB has deferred the Ireland tour to host India in September 2026. (X images)
BCB has deferred the Ireland tour to host India in September 2026. (X images)

India are scheduled to arrive in Bangladesh on August 28 for three ODIs and three T20Is, marking their rescheduled trip after the original 2025 assignment was postponed. As per the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s schedule, the ODIs are scheduled for September 1, 3, and 6, followed by T20Is on September 9, 12, and 13.

India tour takes centre stage in Bangladesh plans

For Bangladesh, the India series was difficult to ignore. A BCB official confirmed that, once the India tour was shifted to September, the board approached Cricket Ireland to see whether the Ireland leg could be moved elsewhere in the 2026 calendar. That did not happen, leading both boards to defer the series instead.

“It was originally scheduled in September. But when India’s tour was postponed to September, we asked Cricket Ireland if they could arrange the series in another possible window in 2026,” the BCB official said as quoted by Cricbuzz.

“They informed us that they have already fixed their FTP, and there is no way to organise the series in another window due to their packed schedule. There were some other issues from their side as well. Eventually, we reached a decision to defer the series and are trying to find a possible window in 2027,” the official added.

That makes the India series more than just another bilateral commitment. It now sits at the centre of Bangladesh’s scheduling plans in a crucial period, with the team trying to maximise its ODI opportunities before the cut-off for direct qualification to the 2027 ODI World Cup, which will be hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.

Bangladesh have climbed to ninth in the ICC ODI rankings after their 2-1 series win over Pakistan and are now on 79 rating points, two ahead of the West Indies in tenth. Only the top eight sides in the rankings by 31 March 2027 will qualify directly, while the rest will have to go through the qualifying tournament.

With the Ireland tour out of the way, Bangladesh are now expected to focus on a schedule that includes home series against New Zealand, Australia and India, along with away assignments in South Africa and Zimbabwe before the qualification deadline.

There is, however, one major caveat. India’s tour is still subject to clearance from the Government of India amid recent diplomatic tensions. If that series is also delayed, Bangladesh could be left with limited ODI cricket before the World Cup qualification cut-off. For now, though, India’s rescheduled visit has already forced a major shift in Bangladesh’s calendar – and underlined just how important this six-match series has become for the hosts.

Anupam Kher has posted a long video talking about Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar 2.

Anupam posts review of Dhurandhar 2

On Saturday, Anupam took to Instagram to share a lengthy video about Dhurandhar 2, revealing that he personally called Aditya Dhar after watching the film to congratulate him.

Sharing the video on his handle, Anupam wrote, “DURANDHAR2 IS OUTSTANDING! ADITYA DHAR IS A ROCKSTAR! Sometimes, words fall short. You walk out of a film… and there’s a silence within you that says everything, yet explains nothing. That’s what watching #Dhurandar felt like. It is not just a film. It is an experience. An emotion. A journey that quietly enters your heart and then refuses to leave. There are moments in Dhurandar that don’t just play on screen—they stay with you, long after the lights come on.”

“I have tried to capture what I felt in the video I am sharing along with this post… but honestly, I could have gone on and on. Because some stories are not meant to be described! They are meant to be felt. Dhurandar is one such story. Congratulations to the entire team for creating something so powerful, so magical, so moving, and so deeply human. Watch it. Experience it. And then sit with it. And #SanjayDutt is brilliant! EVERY ‘INDIAN’ WILL BE PROUD OF THIS FILM,” he added.

Anupam on people calling it a ‘propaganda’ film

In the video, Anupam slams a section of people who have tagged the film as a propaganda vehicle. Calling it outstanding, Anupam said that it is a film that makes one feel proud of their own country.

He says, “People who are saying it’s about jingoism and that it is a propaganda film… I feel so sad for them. I feel pity for them. Initially, before I watched the film, I got angry because they tried to call The Kashmir Files a propaganda film…People who call it a propaganda film should be ashamed of themselves… Aapse bardash nahi hota toh, aap bhi aisi film bana lo (If you can’t tolerate such a movie, go and make such a film)… Put some money and hire some writers.”

As per Anupam, Dhurandhar 2 talks about modern India, going on to show “how brilliant our system is, how brilliant our people are, how brilliant our agencies are”. The actor went on to give shout-outs to Aditya, Ranveer, Sara Arjun, Rakesh Bedi, R Madhavan, and Arjun Rampal.

Talking about Ranveer, Anupam said, “I’m a teacher of acting. For me to really salute somebody, it takes a lot of time and conviction. You are outstanding… Your body language, your simmering anger, understanding your pain… In one or two scenes, your pain is so visible and made me sad. My heart went out to you.”

Ranveer also took to the comment section to respond to his praise, writing, “Shabd toh Mere kam pad gaye yeh dekh kar, Sir. Aap ki kalakari se prerit ho kar bade hue hain, Sir. Aapka aise kehna mere liye bahut bahut badi baat hai. Aap ko koti koti pranaam, Sir. (Words fall short after seeing this, sir. I have grown up inspired by your artistry. Hearing this from you means a great, great deal to me. My deepest respects and salutations to you, sir.”

About Dhurandhar 2

The first film showed Ranveer Singh as an Indian spy who infiltrates gangs in Lyari to eliminate a terror network targeting India while also climbing the power ladder within Pakistan’s underworld.

Helmed by Aditya Dhar, the sequel delves into the origin story of Ranveer’s character, Hamza Ali Mazari, also known as Jaskirat Singh Rangi. It also continues the story from the first part, showing how the Indian spy completes his mission to dismantle the terror network in Pakistan that threatens India. The film also stars Arjun Rampal, R Madhavan, Sanjay Dutt, Sara Arjun and Rakesh Bedi in key roles. It was released on March 19. The film has crossed the ₹300 crore net mark in India on its third day of release.

He heads into IPL 2026 on the back of a stunning 175 in the Under-19 World Cup final, an innings that powered India to the title. Ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan said the season will be an important learning phase for the young batter, especially with opposition teams closely studying his game.Speaking on JioStar’s IPL show, Pathan explained that after succeeding across formats, Sooryavanshi now faces a new challenge as rivals have taken note of both his strengths and potential weaknesses.“This season of the IPL for Vaibhav Suryavanshi will be a learning one. He played in the tournament last year, he has played domestic cricket and he is playing cricket in all formats everywhere. He played in the Under-19 World Cup, he has taken part in the Ranji Trophy with Bihar, and he has scored runs everywhere,” Pathan said.“In white-ball cricket and red-ball cricket, everyone is taking note of him. Bowlers are doing the same. Since he has played so much cricket since his IPL debut last year, other players are watching his videos and analysing his weaknesses,” he added.Pathan emphasised that the 14-year-old left-hander must continue evolving his game and addressing areas of improvement. He added that Sooryavanshi’s recent dominance across formats will keep his confidence high as he looks to make a statement.“He has slammed centuries with ease in all forms of cricket. When you do that consistently, not just in IPL but in domestic cricket, Under-19 cricket and emerging matches, your confidence keeps going higher,” Pathan said.“This IPL season, all bowlers will be ready with their strategies, and Vaibhav will be looking to prove a point. He can do that by slamming another hundred in the IPL. When he scores runs consistently this season, that is when we can say Vaibhav Suryavanshi has upgraded his game,” he concluded.
