IPL: Can Delhi Capitals finally make it a season to remember?

New Delhi:For most of the IPL’s history, Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru were often mentioned in the same breath — two popular teams bound by an uncomfortable and rather embarrassing statistic: neither had ever lifted the trophy.

DC have spent years assembling competitive squads and occasionally threatening a deep run yet the final step has remained elusive. (SportzpicsI / IPL)

In recent years, their potential was always a talking point leading up to the seasons and the fanbase’s loyalty was unwavering. That narrative shifted last season when RCB finally broke their long-standing title drought, leaving Delhi as one of the league’s most prominent franchises still waiting for its first title.

As a new season begins, Delhi will be hoping to follow a similar path. Like RCB before their breakthrough, DC have spent years assembling competitive squads, producing standout players and occasionally threatening a deep run yet the final step has remained elusive.

Axar Patel’s appointment as captain last year was an interesting one. He was rewarded for his loyalty to this franchise, having played with them for the last six seasons. DC decided to make him captain despite having KL Rahul in the squad and it made sense.

Rahul had admitted to feeling pressured when leading Lucknow Super Giants and wanted a fresh, positive start in a new dressing room. It seems to have worked out. He appeared quite active with on-field calls and had a memorable season with the bat, scoring 539 runs at an average of 53.90 including three fifties and one century, without the captaincy label.

They may have finished fifth last year, with their season eventually going awry but they showed promise by winning four games in a row at the beginning. Unlike many IPL captains who arrive with an established leadership resume, Axar’s captaincy experience is relatively modest. Before the IPL, he led Gujarat in 17 T20 matches across domestic competitions, winning 10 of them.

Axar has been one of the franchise’s most consistent performers and a central tactical figure. There is also comfort in familiarity, having been with the Capitals since 2019, he understands the franchise’s dressing room dynamics and the conditions in which the team operates. His consistency was also awarded with vice-captaincy for the Indian team at the recently concluded T20 World Cup.

Nabi, Ngidi addition

DC have a fairly decent spin attack – in Axar, Kuldeep Yadav and Vipraj Nagam—but what now appears to be a major strength this season is the variety within their pace attack, which combines left-arm swing, high pace, bounce and specialist death bowling.

At the centre of that unit is Mitchell Starc, who bowled some excellent spells last year. DC acquired Ranji Trophy’s leading wicket-taker Auqib Nabi for a whopping ₹8.4 crore at the auction, making him an excellent option to open the bowling with the new ball.

In his debut season, it remains to be seen if he will be in the starting XI but his ability to swing the ball both ways and the amount DC have splurged suggests he may well be a vital addition to their fast bowling stocks.

While wary that the J&K pacer’s impressive credentials are largely with the red-ball, Nabi has picked up 14 wickets at an economy of 5.77 in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and 15 wickets at 7.55 runs per over in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

With talks of a potential India Test debut on the line, Nabi will have a platform as big as the IPL to showcase his skills beyond red-ball cricket. With new-ball bowling options sorted, DC also have T. Natarajan as a specialist bowler at the death, renowned for his execution in overs 16-20.

Alongside them, the Capitals possess another key addition in Lungi Ngidi. He already brought hard lengths and steep bounce to the table, but as seen during the T20 World Cup, his effective use of the slower ball was deceptive for many batters. He picked up 12 wickets in 10 matches at an economy of just 7.19. He got the ball to dip on the batters late, which made it difficult for them to pick the ball or get it away and that makes him both a bowler who can strike and be difficult to score off.

Dushmantha Chameera brings to the table raw speed, an attacking mindset and a genuine wicket-taking option. Meanwhile, Kyle Jamieson offers a different challenge altogether – his height allows him to extract steep bounce and awkward angles, especially with the new ball.

Batting shuffle

Previous season, DC lost all games at their homeground at the Arun Jaitley Stadium barring one Super Over win. They will be mindful of letting that repeat since it essentially proved to be their undoing in the latter half of the season.

Batting wise, their heavy investment in top and middle-order this year will give their line-up a considerable shake-up. Alongside Rahul, they need more match-winners. Ashutosh Sharma and Vipraj Nigam played some cameos but their acquisitions of David Miller and Ben Duckett bring experience, versatility and left-handed balance to the line-up.

Their renewed faith in Prithvi Shaw, who was once considered a long-term investment, signals that they are backing him to make a comeback that is both vital individually and from the team’s point of view. Sri Lankan opener Pathum Nissanka is also a prime addition to their bench strength.

Anil Kapoor reveals why he turned down cameo in Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar 2: 'It’s my loss, but I’m already committed'

Anil Kapoor recently revealed that he had to turn down a cameo in Dhurandhar 2 despite being approached by director Aditya Dhar. The actor said he declined the role because he had already committed his dates to another filmmaker.

‘I told him I would have loved to do it’

“Yes, Aditya came to me for Dhurandhar 2. He wanted me to do a small cameo in the film. But the reason I am what I am today is because of my professionalism and my commitment. That’s very important—only talent cannot make you what you are,” Kapoor told India Today while explaining why he could not take up the role. The actor added that he did not want to cancel a prior commitment, even though he was interested in the cameo. “At that time, I had already committed those dates to another filmmaker. I told Aditya, ‘I would have loved to do this cameo, but I’m already committed.’ He is releasing the film now, and it’s a fantastic film. It’s my loss, but it’s okay,” he said.

‘Cancelling someone’s dates would be unprofessional’

Kapoor also expressed hope that he would collaborate with Dhar in the future, noting that maintaining professional commitments is essential in the film industry. “At least I know in the back of my mind that it can happen to him as well — there could be another filmmaker who has just delivered a big blockbuster and offers me something when I’m already committed to Aditya. If I then go and do that film and cancel his dates, that would be completely unprofessional. So yes, he did offer me the role, and hopefully we will work together in the future,” he added.

Karachi Sells Banned Dhurandhar for Rs 16 as Piracy Storm Defies Official Ban

Towards the end of the conversation, when asked whether he would consider appearing in a potential third installment, Kapoor hinted that he would prefer something different. “I think I will do something new. Kuch naya karunga (I will do something new),” he said.Dhurandhar 2 stars Ranveer Singh, Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt, Rakesh Bedi, and Sara Arjun in key roles and is scheduled to hit theatres on March 19. Meanwhile, Kapoor was last seen in Subedaar, directed by Suresh Triveni and co-starring Radhika Madan and Khushbu Sundar.

Who wins and loses in the global energy crisis? | Business and Economy

As oil prices surge, some economies benefit while others face rising costs.

The war in the Middle East is exposing how dependent the world is on a handful of strategic chokepoints.

The Strait of Hormuz – a narrow waterway in the Gulf – is closed.

The longer this goes on, the faster the global energy map could be reshaped.

From Europe to Asia, countries are facing mounting supply risks and the threat of an inflation shock.

If the conflict between the US, Israel and Iran drags on, alternatives will be hard to find.

But, Russia is shaping up to be a major beneficiary, with soaring prices filling Moscow’s coffers despite Western sanctions.

Premiumisation fuels growth in India’s watch market

India’s ‘accessible’ luxury watch segment is emerging as one of the fastest-growing segments as consumers increasingly upgrade to premium timepieces. The momentum is expected to accelerate further with the India-EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement, which will gradually lower import duties to nil on European watches over the next four-five years, drawing greater interest from Swiss and other global watchmakers looking to tap India’s rising appetite for luxury, Rahul Shukla, VP and chief sales & marketing officer, Titan Company, told TOI. The Rs 4500 crore segment, which includes watches priced between Rs 1 lakh to Rs 5 lakh, is growing at roughly 23%, and increasingly attracting niche global brands. Elaborating on the growth, he said “The India–EFTA trade agreement will help create a more enabling environment for the luxury watch market. While duty reductions may not necessarily translate into lower prices, they are likely to encourage deeper investments by global brands. Swiss watchmakers, in particular, are already stepping up their presence through large-format advertising at airports, stronger digital outreach and India-inspired designs that celebrate the country’s culture, art and heritage, all of which is helping expand the category.” Capitalising on this momentum, Alexander Shorokhoff, a German family-owned watch company, has entered India through Helios Luxe, the premium watch retail format of Titan. Alexander Shorokhoff is a niche player with “artistic’’ limited edition watches, sold in nearly 40 countries, with Germany and US as its leading markets, Alexander Shorokhov, CEO of Alexander Shorokhoff said. The business in the US has not been impacted by the geopolitical uncertainty linked to tariffs imposed by US president Donald Trump, he added.“Encouraged by the increasing traction for independent brands, we intend to deepen market reach by establishing 45 Helios Luxe boutiques across metros and select Tier 1 cities by next year, and 100 stores by 2030’’, Shukla added.Helios is the multi-brand watch retail chain from Titan, while Helios Luxe curates select brands in the Rs one lakh-plus segment.Meanwhile, the overall watch category, estimated at about Rs 26,000 crore, is growing around 18%, but higher-end segments are growing much faster in line with the premiumisation trend.

He added, “At that time, I had already committed those dates to another filmmaker. I told Aditya, ‘I would have loved to do this cameo, but I’m already committed.’ He is releasing the film now, and it’s a fantastic film. It’s my loss, but it’s okay.”

Bhumi Satish Pednekkar spills the beans about her next film with Imran Khan: ‘It’s this evolved love story’

Not long after the release of her web series The Royals last year, Bollywood actor Bhumi Satish Pednekkar took a nine month break from acting. During her hiatus, following the backlash received by the show, the actor focused on mental health and personal growth. In January this year, Bhumi made her comeback to our screens with her new film Daldal. But what’s next? Much to the delight of fans, the actor answered this very question on the new episode of The Right Angle with Sonal Kalra, spilling the beans about her upcoming film with Imran Khan.

During the interview, Chief Managing Editor Sonal Kalra, Entertainment and Lifestyle, Hindustan Times, asked, “And now that you’ve come back all rejuvenated and Daldal’s also got a good response, what’s next on the cards, Bhumi? What is it that’s keeping you busy?” Hearing this, Bhumi Satish Pednekkar replied, “I’m very, very thrilled. Jaisa response Daldal ko mila. Main aapko sach bataun… woh Thursday ko aata hai, OTT shows ke saath woh Friday wala concept nahi hota hai. Wednesday raat ko when the show dropped, main Golden Temple gayi thi, wahan 5-6 ghante maine sewa kari, because that is my way of disconnecting. You know, I found like this beautiful spiritual connection with God, and it has changed my life. And I think one thing I would also want to tell all the youngsters, I wish I had found this when I was younger, you know, especially millennials. Humara naa aisa disconnect ho gaya hai with whatever superior energy that exists, and there is an energy that exists, especially in India. We are so lucky. Humare naa DNA me hi hai. And I wish I had found it earlier. Shayad mujhe woh break lene ki zarurat nahi padhti. Because spirituality, your faith, whatever faith you believe in, whatever energy you believe in, woh aapko bohot stable rakhta hai, itna energised rakhta hai aapko. So my biggest advice that I can actually give younger people is that find your connection with God, with the universe. With whatever it is. Bohot important hai. But, main sewa karne gayi thi hai and Thursday maine kisi se baat nahi ki. Maine socha chalo fine. Friday onwards I started getting messages, responses. Saturday tak Daldal was trending globally and maine naa yeh aspiration rakha hi nahi tha show ke liye. Maine kaha haan yaar Indian show hai, dekhenge log. When I started seeing, number one UK, Singapore, Switzerland, Indonesia, America, kuchh ho raha hai. And I think, it happened because I was just so open to receive everything.”

Talking about her much-awaited movie with Imran Khan, Bhumi shared, “And fortunately, maine bohot hi cute film shoot kari hai, right before, you know, I took this break. It was the last day that I decided, OK, now I’m moving on. It was for this film with a great group of people. It is Imran Khan’s comeback film, and I am so excited about it because Imran had a genre of rom-coms, and that genre now not nobody is doing. And he’s come back with a film which is like his genre but elevated, more mature, more evolved, you know, it’s this evolved love story. It has this other incredible actor, Gurfateh (Pirzada) in it as well, and I can’t wait for people to see it. Also, like, it was kind of in my bucket list to work with Imran because main unki bohot saari filmo ki fan reh chuki hun, you know, growing up, Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, and he was like quite the girl crush for everyone. So, it’s that and working on a bunch of things. To tell you my most honest answer, I don’t know what am I gonna do next, because I had taken some time off. But I have been reading a lot. But I know whatever I do next has to be something that really takes my performance to another level. Warna, theek hai.”

According to buzz, Bhumi and Imran’s upcoming film is titled Adhoore Hum Adhoore Tum. The film will be helmed by Break Ke Baad director Danish Aslam and will mark Imran’s return to Bollywood after a decade.

Gaurav Kapur talks about Kritika Kamra, how they are different

Gaurav recalled the first time they spoke with each other and how they have different personalities. He said, “I remember the first time we spoke very clearly. We talked for an hour, and it was just easy. What surprised me was her calmness. I’m very reactive, very instant, and she has a long view on life. We complement each other that way. Commitment now means having her back always, making sure she can be the best version of herself. She’s the plane — I just try to be the tailwind pushing her forward.”

Kritika opens up about her wedding and reception outfits

Kritika talked about her wedding outfits and what guided hr choice for them. “I wasn’t trying to make a statement. I just wanted to feel like myself. The sari was always going to happen. It’s from my mother’s brand, it’s Chanderi, it’s home. The Dior was personal in another way. I studied Galliano in college, so wearing a vintage piece felt full circle. Both outfits had a story, and that mattered more than anything else,” she shared.

On Wednesday, Kritika and Gaurav got married at their Bandra home. They solemnised their relationship in a low-key civil marriage ceremony in the presence of family and close friends.
