Actor Ranveer Singh‘s Dhurandhar franchise has smashed box-office records, but the film has found itself at the centre of a growing debate, with a section of viewers branding it “propaganda”. Now, actor Rakesh Bedi, who has been earning praise for his portrayal of Jameel Jamali in the film, has dismissed the criticism.
Dhurandhar 2, led by Ranveer Singh, was released on March 19.
The actor has suggested that the backlash is driven more by jealousy than genuine concern, especially given the film’s roaring commercial success.
Rakesh Bedi on propaganda label
In an interview with Zoom, Rakesh came out in support of Aditya Dhar’s spy thriller, dismissing claims that the film carries a propaganda-driven narrative.
He said, “It was timely. Timely matlab in the sense ki char din panch din das din aapke comments aaye but log toh kuch aur hi bol rahe hai. Log toh aaj bhi bol rahe hai ki housefull hai. I did a theatre in Delhi when the film first released and I asked one fan who was doing hand gestures what you were doing toh woh kahe 10 bar dekh liye. Sachai dekhni samjhne mein mushkil hota hai aur main tab isko galat manta jab inhone dikhaya hota jo nhi hua enlarge karke dikhaya hota (It was timely– timely in the sense that for four, five, even ten days you received comments, but people are saying something completely different. Even today, people are saying the shows are housefull. I went to a theatre in Delhi when the film had just released, and I asked a fan who was making hand gestures what he was doing – he said he had watched it ten times. The truth is hard to see and understand, and I would have considered it wrong only if they had exaggerated or shown something that never actually happened).”
Rakesh added, “Yeh agar documentary hoti toh toh aap bolte wah wah kya baat hai. Aab kyunki yeh film hai aur paise kama rahi hai toh aapko digest nhi hua lekin jhut toh kuch bhi nhi hai (If it had been a documentary, people would have called it a great piece of work, but since it was a film making money, many were finding it hard to accept – despite there being no falsehood in it).”

The cabinet of Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi has lifted a ban on exporting lethal weapons, including fighter jets, in a major shift to Japan’s pacifist post-World War II constitution.
In a post on X announcing the changes on Tuesday, Takaichi did not specify which weapons Japan would now sell overseas. However, Japanese newspapers said the changes would encompass fighter jets, missiles and warships, which Japan has recently agreed to build for Australia.

“With this amendment, transfers of all defence equipment will in principle become possible,” Takaichi said, adding that “recipients will be limited to countries that commit to use in accordance with the UN Charter”.
“In an increasingly severe security environment, no single country can now protect its own peace and security alone.”
At least 17 countries will be eligible to buy weapons manufactured in Japan under the changes, Japan’s Chunichi newspaper reported, adding that this list may be expanded if more countries enter into bilateral agreements with Japan.
Previous rules, introduced in 1967 and enacted in 1976, had limited Japanese military exports to non-lethal arms, such as those used for surveillance and mine sweeping, Japan’s Asahi newspaper reported.
Asahi also reported that Japan will still restrict exporting weapons to countries where fighting is currently taking place, but exemptions are allowed under “special circumstances” where Japan’s national security needs are taken into account.
Countries interested in buying Japanese-made weapons include Australia, New Zealand, the Philippines and Indonesia, which recently signed a major defence pact with the United States, Chunichi reported, citing Japan’s Ministry of Defence.
Tokyo’s change in policy comes soon after Japan and Australia signed a $7bn deal that will see Japan’s Mitsubishi Heavy Industries build the first three of 11 warships for the Australian navy.
Takaichi sends offering to controversial war shrine
The changes announced by Takaichi on Tuesday come amid reports that the Japanese prime minister had sent a ritual offering to the notorious Yasukuni Shrine in Tokyo on the occasion of its spring festival.
Built in the 1800s to honour Japan’s war dead, the shrine includes the names of more than 1,000 convicted Japanese war criminals from World War II, including 14 who were found guilty of “Class A” crimes.
Visits by Japanese officials to the shrine have long been considered insensitive to the people of China, South Korea, and other countries that Japanese soldiers brutalised during the war.
After the defeat of Axis countries, including the bombing of Japan’s Hiroshima and Nagasaki at the end of World War II, Japan introduced a new constitution renouncing participation in war.
However, Takaichi, considered a China “hawk” and sometimes referred to as Japan’s “Iron Lady”, is among a number of recent Japanese leaders to have pushed back against the country’s pacifist stance.

The above table shows that Punjab & Sind Bank offers the highest interest of 6.75% on a fixed deposit of 666 days. Four of the six PSU banks are offering 6.60% as the highest interest rate on fixed deposits. However, the tenure for these fixed deposits ranges from 450 days to 555 days.
Why have banks increased fixed deposit interest rates?
The last time the RBI cut the Repo Rate was in December 2025, and since then, it has held interest rates steady. Yet, since the start of 2026, some banks have increased interest rates on fixed deposits. Some of the reasons include the high credit growth rate versus the slower deposit mobilisation rate, competition from other fixed-income instruments (small savings schemes, Government and corporate bonds, etc.), shifting individual investment patterns from fixed deposits to mutual funds, etc.
Over the last few months, the credit growth rate has been higher than the deposit growth rate. Hence, banks are making efforts to mobilise higher deposits by making fixed deposits attractive to depositors. The interest rates on most small savings schemes are either higher or competitive compared to bank fixed deposit interest rates. The interest rates (as of 15th April 2026) for some of the small savings schemes are as follows:

Should you invest in bank fixed deposits?
Banks have to attract more deposits to fund the high credit growth. Similarly, the interest rates on the small savings schemes are attractive. Yields on the G-secs, SDLs, corporate bonds, etc., have increased recently.
To compete with other fixed-income instruments, banks have to keep interest rates on fixed deposits attractive. Hence, many banks have repriced their fixed deposit interest rates in the last few months, inspite of the RBI maintaining status quo on the Repo Rate.
With many banks recently increasing fixed deposit interest rates, there has been a reversal from cutting fixed deposit interest rates to raising them. The current fixed deposit interest rates being offered are decent. Hence, if you were planning to invest in bank fixed deposits, this is a good time to invest and benefit from the attractive interest rates. When investing in a fixed deposit, consider the inflation rate. Also, note that the interest rate on fixed deposits is taxed at the individual’s slab rate.
Justice Swarnkant Sharma, replying to Kejriwal’s petition, said, “In the absence of any evidence of abuse by the children of a judge, such an allegation cannot even be entertained.”

Delhi High Court judge Justice Swarn Kanta Sharma on Monday affirmed that “separation must come from law and cannot be based on fiction”, as she dismissed petitions filed by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal and others.
The former chief minister appeared before the judge virtually through video-conferencing and urged him to take on record his response to the written arguments filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Justice Sharma said that although the verdict was scheduled for 2:30 pm, she was “going out of her way” to accept Kejriwal’s response in the form of written submissions in the case.
‘Agni pariksha…but write without fear’: What did Justice Sharma say?

“If a politician’s wife can become a politician, if a politician’s children can become politicians. How can it be said that a judge’s children cannot enter the legal profession? It would mean taking away the fundamental rights of the judges’ family,” the judge said, adding that none of his children are linked to the excise policy case. “In the absence of any evidence that the office of the court has been abused by a judge’s children, such an allegation cannot be whispered… A litigant cannot dictate how a judge’s children or family members are to live their lives.”
“In the opinion of this court, even if relatives of this court are in the government panel, the plaintiff has to show its influence on the present case or the decision-making power of this court. No such nexus has been shown. However, this issue needs to be addressed. Merely because a judge takes the oath of office, his family does not take an oath not to enter this profession.”
“Allowing secession will lead the public to believe that judges are associated with a particular ideology… If this court recuses from the case it will open the doors for powerful litigants to attack the families of judges… A judicial function cannot be dedicated by a judge to the perception of only one litigant… Secession will have deep implications. Argument and Reply
On April 13, Kejriwal said Justice Sharma had attended the Advocates Parishad event linked to BJP, RSS four times, while the CBI, represented by Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, defended the judge’s participation, saying even Supreme Court and other high court judges had attended the event organized by the “Bar Association”.
While Kejriwal insisted that the registry’s refusal to take his rejoinder on record was a “miscarriage of justice”, Justice Sharma remarked that since he was not being represented by a lawyer, the court “went out of its way” for him when last week it allowed him to file his additional affidavit, even after securing orders on the separation issue.
The judge said that as per the registry rule, any party has to seek permission from the court in person to file anything and since the present case is not “exceptional”, the same practice is being followed. She said that in law, there is no concept of filing “reply” to the written pleadings of the opposite party and she would allow it Kejrival Presenting his arguments in the form of written submissions, so that he does not feel that he has not been heard. The judge said, “You say you have respect for me. I have respect for every litigant. The rule of the court will not be changed for anyone, so I will treat this as a written plea. I am taking it on record. I am giving immunity to Mr. Kejriwal.”
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta appeared in the court on behalf of CBI and opposed Kejriwal’s request to file a counter. Mehta said that anywhere in the country, the arguments are not taken on record after the court reserves the order. He also said that there is no concept of filing rejoinder to the written submission and the court should do the same as it would do for any ordinary litigant.
What did Kejriwal say?
In its latest filing, Kejrival has said that the CBI has not disputed that Justice Sharma’s children are on central government panels and they get earmarked work through the “Solicitor General-led litigation structure”. The former Delhi Chief Minister said that once these facts are accepted, the prosecution cannot be allowed to escape legal consequences and all charges leveled against him by the CBI are completely irrelevant.
Emphasizing that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader holds the Indian judiciary in the highest regard, the rejoinder claimed that the federal agency has failed to justify apprehensions of conflict of interest and bias in the case, and that its story about “institutional integrity”, “anarchist practices”, “social-media campaigns”, “intimidation” and “pressuring judges” is completely irrelevant and condemnable.
Kejriwal has alleged, “Instead of meeting the gist of the conflict of interest petition, the CBI has resorted to speculations, allegations of motives, rhetoric and scandalous allegations against the applicant, all of which are irrelevant to the limited issue arising for consideration. It is very unfortunate that the CBI is willing to bring the entire judiciary into disrepute just to get this case heard before an honorable judge.”
He has raised several objections against the judge hearing the CBI plea against discharging him in the liquor-policy case, including that he had earlier refused to grant him relief on a plea challenging his arrest and had refused to grant relief on the bail pleas of other accused, including Manish Sisodia and K Kavitha.
Kejriwal also claimed that Justice Sharma had come to “strong and conclusive” findings. Former Chief Minister of Delhi It has further alleged “direct conflict of interest”, claiming that the judge’s children are central government empaneled lawyers, who get work through the Solicitor General, who are appearing in court for the CBI.
Apart from Kejriwal, AAP leaders Sisodia and Durgesh Pathak have also filed a petition to remove the judge from the post. Other respondents, including Vijay Nair and Arun Ramachandra Pillai, have also sought his recusal from the case.
On February 27, the trial court acquitted Kejriwal, Sisodia and others in the Delhi liquor-policy case and said the CBI case is completely incapable of standing judicial scrutiny and is completely discredited.

She also thanked close friends, including The Morning Show actress Tara Karsian and The Rookie star Gregory Zarian, along with his husband, John Stewart.
