Friday has been all about cricketer Virat Kohli and the girl whose Instagram picture he briefly liked, only to unlike it later. The internet, of course, has had a full-blown meltdown, complete with hilarious throwbacks to Kohli’s 2025 ‘likegate’ involving actor Avneet Kaur. Amid all the buzz, HT City caught up with the woman at the centre of it all, LizLaz, whose picture has now gone viral, for an exclusive chat.

“It was crazy because I woke up and then I was all over the news,” is her first reaction to us, “I don’t even know when he liked the picture, I learnt through the news. So many people found the articles done on me on many different platforms and sent them to me in my DMs. I got so many messages today, people were super excited about it.”

An old clip of LizLaz’s interview to another portal too has been going viral, in which she confesses that she’s a Virat Kohli fan. How did this connection happen?

It was because of an India trip last year. The vlogger and musician visited the country for the first time. She tells us, “One of my best friends is from Bangalore, so I just wanted to visit them. I thought I am going to stay for maybe two weeks and then leave. But then I enjoyed it a lot, so I stayed for many months. I also started traveling around all over South India, Goa, Mysore, even Coorg, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, and then also the north later. And this trip is when I got introduced to cricket as a sport. I didn’t watch it before or anything. I was born in South Africa but brought up in Germany, where the national sport is only football.”

And that’s when she watched Virat play, “It was obviously the IPL last year, so I started watching with my Bangalorean friends. It was contagious. I was also becoming a Royal Challengers Bangalore fan. And obviously, if you support RCB, Virat Kohli is the most exciting player to watch. He’s just so good. So I was happy about him liking the picture.”

Now that Virat has unliked the picture, is it a bit of a dampener? “No, I felt a bit sorry for him actually!,” says Liz to HT, “I was so happy that he liked it, but then him unliking it, I felt a bit bad for him because I don’t even know how it became such a big story. How did people notice, how did they make it news… that was probably not his intention behind it, but still I am grateful for it and I appreciate the support from him.”

The sudden attention is surprising for LizLaz, as are the work opportunities coming her way after the virality, “There have been so many queries. But I am taking my time. I am passionate about music and vlogging. And if I get music opportunities in India, why not? Maybe I will visit again soon. I wish I was there for the IPL this time.”

Zareen Khan is mourning the loss of her mother, Parveen Khan, who passed away on April 8 at the age of 65 after a prolonged illness. Ten days after her demise, the actress took to social media to pen an emotional note, remembering her mother as her “first love.” Expressing the depth of her grief, she added that words fall short of capturing what she is going through.

Zareen Khan is mourning the loss of her mother, Parveen Khan, who passed away on April 8 at the age of 65 after a prolonged illness. Ten days after her demise, the actress took to social media to pen an emotional note, remembering her mother as her “first love.”

‘My mother, my first love… my everything’

Sharing a childhood throwback picture, Zareen wrote, “‘Innaa lillahi wa innaa ilayhi raji’un (To Allah we belong and to Him we shall return). My mother, my first love, my best friend, my baby, my world, my everything… It’s been 10 days that you are gone.”Expressing the depth of her grief, she added that words fall short of capturing what she is going through.“I’m not gonna write some long caption for the world to read because you know exactly what I’m going through right now without you. There’s a constant ache and emptiness in my heart which is irreplaceable.”Zareen concluded her note with a heartfelt goodbye, wishing her mother peace.“Be the chhota baby you always were and enjoy your parents’ love in Jannat… Until we meet again!”

Passed away after prolonged illness

Parveen Khan passed away in Mumbai at the age of 65 after battling a prolonged illness. Her last rites were held at Versova Muslim Kabrastan in Andheri West. Confirming the news earlier, Zareen’s team had said, “Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un. This is to inform that our beloved Ms Parveen Khan, mother of Zareen Khan & Sana Khan, has departed peacefully to her heavenly abode on the 8th of April. May Allah grant her the highest place in Jannatul Firdaus. Ameen.”

Vaishali Rameshbabu produced a seminal moment for Indian chess by becoming the first woman from the country to clinch the revered Candidates tournament. 
She did so by accumulating 8.5 points from her 14 matches at the tournament in Cyprus on Wednesday. 

‘Remarkable achievement’

Veteran Indian GM Pravin Thipsay termed it as a remarkable achievement, not only because Vaishali, 24, was the lowest-ranked player [18th] in the seven-player global event, but also because of the incredible strides she has taken to lift her game to the next level, after a few years of stagnancy.

“Very rarely does a player, who is not among the Top 3, win the Candidates. There’s a pattern in chess… the one, who tends to become a champion, generally does so in the first or second [world championship] cycle, but Vaishali has achieved this after being around for a while which is remarkable and  it is a big boost for Indian women’s chess,” Mumbai-based Thipsay told mid-day.

Thipsay, 66, who was the first Indian to win the Commonwealth Chess Championship in 1985, added that Vaishali has worked on a few things in the last few years leading to this big feat. “For several years Vaishali was stagnant at a rating of 2420-2430, but after the 2022 Olympiad, seeing the performances of D Gukesh, Praggnanandhaa, and Arjun Erigaisi, her mindset changed. She already had resourcefulness, but her accuracy level improved. She is now demonstrating aggression at the right time. Many of her earlier losses came due to aggression which was uncalled for. So, now that improvement in judgement is there. This shows that she’s a real fighter, who keeps coming back time and again, and someone who can do that has no limits,” explained Thipsay.

World title later this year

Vaishali’s triumph at the Candidates has handed her a ticket to battle five-time world champion Ju Wenjun of China for the World Championship. And Thipsay believes Vaishali has every chance of winning. 

“There’s a good chance that the [World Championship] throne is handed to Vaishali because Wenjun suffers from a lack of match practice. She plays very few tournaments, and may find it difficult to digest Vaishali’s style,” said Thipsay.

However, he explained there’s still one element that Vaishali must work on. “Vaishali plays to gain the initiative, and if there’s no initiative, she’s not able to play a balanced positional game well. Vaishali, like Viswanathan Anand, tends to concentrate on the king-side attack. But it’s very important to learn how to play both the strategic as well as the tactical part of the game well,” concluded the Arjuna Awardee.

New Delhi: India’s smartphone market is undergoing a sharp price reshuffle, with rising component costs, pushing devices into higher brackets and squeezing the entry segment.As of March 2026, more than 80 out of roughly 200 smartphone models (including memory variants) in India have seen price increases, with an average hike of about 15%. Further increases are expected, with prices likely to rise another 15% in Q2, while new launches could come in 30-40% higher in some cases.According to Counterpoint Research, the sub-Rs 15,000 category has taken the biggest hit, with its market share dropping to 33% in Q1 2026 from 41% in Q3 2025. “Brands in this segment, typically operating on razor-thin margins, have struggled to absorb input cost increases,” said Tarun Pathak, research director, devices and ecosystems at Counterpoint Research. As a result, many devices have been repriced upward.In contrast, Rs 15,000-30,000 segment has expanded significantly, with its share rising from 35% to 45% over same period. Price hikes have effectively pushed several models out of budget bracket into mid-range. “Memory price inflation is impacting entry-tier segment, where brands have limited flexibility to absorb costs.”

Glory trailer released

Marking a first-of-its-kind launch, Netflix brought the world of Glory to life by hosting a LIVE boxing face-off between Pulkit Samrat and professional boxer Neeraj Goyat, which blurred the lines between fiction and reality to create an immersive experience.

The trailer of Glory shows the dynamics beyond the family open into a world where every character has a stake. Sikandar Kher’s Kookie Gulati looms over Shaktigarh, as Ashutosh Rana’s Viju Sanghwan drives the boxing rivalry. Meanwhile, Sayani Gupta’s Joyna is on her toes, digging into Nihal’s death, uncovering deeper links, while Kashmira Pardeshi’s Bharti stands at the centre, as a sharp and unpredictable character.

Kolkata Knight Riders have seen their campaign slip further, with a fifth defeat in six matches stretching their wait for a first win. Injuries had already disrupted their build-up to the season, but even then, the side has struggled to look competitive on the field. Both departments have lacked bite, with the batting and bowling failing to make any real impact. Senior players like Ajinkya Rahane, Rinku Singh and Ramandeep Singh haven’t been able to contribute meaningfully so far. There was, however, a spark from Cameron Green, whose 79 offered some resistance on Thursday, but the lack of support from the other end once again proved costly for KKR.

Ajinkya Rahane looked visibly dejected after the defeat against Gujarat Titans, struggling to find words as disappointment was written all over his face as he said, “It’s never easy to talk about the game after losing”.

The Kolkata Knight Riders skipper, however, chose to focus on the positives, praising the way Cameron Green stood up to rescue the side after a shaky start. He also lauded the bowlers for stretching the contest to the final over and pushing the Gujarat Titans hard while defending a moderate total.

“I want to talk about the positives. The way we started with two or three wickets down, the way Green started was amazing. From 147 for 4 to 180 was slightly difficult. But credit to all our bowlers [for] the way they bowled. They took it to the last over,” he said.

Meanwhile, he offered no excuses for how the KKR bowlers leaked runs in the powerplay, despite the dew factor, and instead credited opposition openers Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan for their impressive display with the bat.

“Gill batted really well. There was slight dew as well, but no excuses. Sai Sudharsan and Gill batted really well. I just wanted to talk positive stuff,” he added.

Rahane reveals by Green didn’t bowl vs GT

Green, who starred with the bat for Kolkata Knight Riders, did not come out to bowl in the second innings. Ajinkya Rahane later explained that the Australian all-rounder was struggling with cramps, which is why he didn’t roll his arm over.

“Green was struggling with his cramps, that’s the reason he was on and off the field today, and that’s the reason he didn’t bowl,” he added.

Rahane signed off on a composed note, stressing the importance of staying present and backing the team’s approach despite the setback.

“It’s all about being in the moment. Just need to enjoy our game and back ourselves. That’s what we wanted to do today,” he added.

The upcoming reboot of the legendary series Baywatch has added another familiar face to its line-up. Actress Erika Eleniak will reprise her role as Shauni McClain in a guest starring capacity.

The actress starred in the first two seasons of the show before departing at the beginning of Season 3, reports ‘Variety’.

A former Baywatch lifeguard, Shauni is now a Santa Monica city councilwoman who returns to the beach to help Hobie Buchannon (played by Stephen Amell) kick off the annual “Beach Games” between reigning champions of Baywatch versus the Coast Guard.

As per ‘Variety’, she has joined returning cast member David Chokachi, who is reprising the role of Cody Madison, as well as an ensemble that includes Amell, Jessica Belkin as Charlie Vale, Shay Mitchell as Trina, Hassie Harrison as Nat, Thaddeus LaGrone as Brad, Brooks Nader as Selene, Noah Beck as Luke, Livvy Dunne as Grace and Nadia Gray as Lisa.

Decades after the original ‘Baywatch’ became one of the largest television properties of all time, launching David Hasselhoff and Pamela Anderson to global stardom, Fox and Fremantle decided to revive the franchise with a series that continues the storyline of the original. Matt Nix is the showrunner, executive producing alongside director McG, Michael Berk, Greg Bonann, Doug Schwartz, Dante Di Loreto and Mike Horowitz.

NEW DELHI: Gujarat Titans’ resurgence in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 continued on Friday as they registered a comfortable five-wicket win over struggling Kolkata Knight Riders at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. After starting the IPL 2026 season with two defeats, Gujarat Titans have now achieved a hat-trick of wins to jump to fourth in the points table with six points from five games.KKR, on the other hand, suffered their fifth loss of the IPL 2026 season as they remained stuck at the bottom of the standings with just one point from a rain-induced no result against table-toppers Punjab Kings earlier in the season. The Ajinkya Rahane-led side remain the only winless team of the season after 25 matches in IPL 2026.GT chased down the 181-run target with two balls to spare against KKR and improved their net run rate (NRR) to +0.018 from -0.029 — a slight but important improvement for the Shubman Gill-led side.The top three in the IPL 2026 standings remained unchanged, with Punjab Kings leading the pack with nine points from five games, followed by defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Rajasthan Royals — both on eight points, with RCB placed second on superior NRR.The mid-table is tightly packed with four teams on four points at this stage, with Sunrisers Hyderabad in fifth on better NRR, followed by Delhi Capitals, Lucknow Super Giants and Chennai Super Kings — all level on points.The bottom two teams are Mumbai Indians in ninth with just two points from five games, and KKR anchored at the bottom.
