NEW DELHI: Suryakumar Yadav found himself at the centre of heavy social media backlash after another disappointing outing in IPL 2026, with fans questioning his form and intent following his first-ball dismissal against Punjab Kings.Mumbai Indians were already in early trouble when Surya walked in, with the team reeling at 15/2. But instead of stabilising the innings, the T20I skipper edged his very first delivery off Arshdeep Singh straight to short third man, walking back for a golden duck.

The soft dismissal didn’t go down well with fans, who expected a more responsible approach in a pressure situation.Social media was quick to react. Many users pointed out how Surya has struggled for consistency this season, especially when the team needs him most. Some fans even drew comparisons with his international form, questioning whether his aggressive style is backfiring in crunch IPL moments.Memes flooded timelines within minutes, highlighting the contrast between his reputation and recent returns. The criticism became sharper because of what followed. Quinton de Kock produced a stunning unbeaten 112, while Naman Dhir added a composed 50 to rescue Mumbai Indians and take them to 195/6. Their 132-run partnership only amplified the frustration among fans, as it showed what was possible with a more measured approach. While MI managed to recover on the scoreboard, Surya’s early exit remained a talking point. With the tournament entering a crucial phase, the spotlight is now firmly on him to respond, not just with runs, but with innings that match his stature. For now, the noise is loud, and the expectations even louder.

RGV questions Dhurandhar 2 portrayal of Dawood Ibrahim

Ram Gopal Varma questions Dhurandhar 2 portrayal of Dawood Ibrahim: 'I believe he retired from criminal activities 20 years ago'
Ram Gopal Varma may be one of the loudest cheerleaders for Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge, but the filmmaker has now pointed out a key aspect where he disagrees with the film—its portrayal of Dawood Ibrahim. In Dhurandhar 2, the gangster is referred to as ‘Bade Sahab’ and is shown as the mastermind orchestrating terror operations in India while controlling networks from Pakistan. Varma further explained that while he cannot claim absolute authority, the version shown in the film does not align with his understanding. The Satya director also shared his long-held belief about Dawood’s current status.

Ram Gopal Varma may be one of the loudest cheerleaders for Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge, but the filmmaker has now pointed out a key aspect where he disagrees with the film—its portrayal of Dawood Ibrahim.Soon after the film’s release, RGV had taken to X to heap praise on director Aditya Dhar, calling the film the “next best after Sholay.” He even described it as a “quantum leap” in Indian filmmaking, referring to Dhar as his “new guru,” and compared its impact on him to that of his own cult classic Satya.

“Portrayal of Dawood is incorrect”

However, in a conversation with writer Hussain Zaidi on his YouTube channel, RGV said he had reservations about how Dawood Ibrahim has been depicted in the film.“The only element I disagree with is that… I feel that the portrayal of Dawood Ibrahim… They might have their own sources (but) I think it is being shown incorrectly,” he said.In Dhurandhar 2, the gangster is referred to as ‘Bade Sahab’ and is shown as the mastermind orchestrating terror operations in India while controlling networks from Pakistan.

“Not falling in line with what I know”

Varma further explained that while he cannot claim absolute authority, the version shown in the film does not align with his understanding.“It’s not like I can say that with authority. But it is not falling in line with what I know,” he added. The Satya director also shared his long-held belief about Dawood’s current status.“He is inactive by choice, because he stopped doing anything. I believe he retired from criminal activities 20 years ago,” RGV said, adding that he has also heard claims over the years about the gangster being unwell and inactive.

An orchestra, where everything works seamlessly. Melanie Perkins, co-founder and CEO of Canva credits one of the company’s engineers for curating this analogy to describe a new direction the 13-year old platform is taking. Focus is now on artificial intelligence (AI) agents, which will take guidance from humans, to execute complex tasks. Adobe too, earlier today, announced a new creative agent across their platforms.

Agentic AI is on the agenda for tech companies, though each is approaching the conversation differently. Creative platforms are visualising AI as a collaborative element in designing, a subtle change from a theme repeatedly set by AI companies including OpenAI, Nvidia and Anthropic, which centers around replacing humans in creative workflows.

Perkins is confident the combination of Agentic Orchestration, Conversational Design and Object-based Intelligence in Canva AI 2.0 announced today at the Canva Create keynote, will become a “true creative partner” and “with tools to turn ideas into complete outcomes”. A conversational prompt can generate not just multiple elements or types of content, but also help with edits.

The foundations for this agentic AI integration began in a phased manner last year, with the release of Canva Code, followed by a Creative OS that refined AI across Docs, Photo Editor, and Video editing. Canva hopes new agentic tools will give them a better foothold with business and team workflows.

It is not only competing with Adobe’s Creative suite, but a much wider canvas including Apple’s Creator Studio bundle as well as work platforms. Acquisitions of Australian AI companies Simtheory and Ortto this month, add substance to a sharpened agentic workspace focus. The keynote comes on the back of strong momentum, with 265 million monthly active users of which 31 million are paid subscribers, and $4 billion in annualised revenue.

Adobe’s new Firefly AI Assistant can orchestrate and execute complex, multi-step workflows across Firefly, Photoshop, Premiere, Lightroom, Express, and Illustrator. David Wadhwani, President, Creativity & Productivity Business at Adobe, says this is a “new era of agentic creativity, where you direct how your work takes shape and your perspective, voice and taste become the most powerful creative instruments of all”.

The company says the Firefly AI Assistant will be available in public beta in the coming weeks.

American venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) notes that Canva sits behind only OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini in global AI usage hierarchy, and ahead of Deepseek, Grok and Claude. Also, a16z and market researchers YipitData note that Canva registered a 101% uptick annually in customer spends, ahead of Replit (78%), Vercel (72%), Hubspot (63%), Box (60%) and Figma (47%).

Adobe is leveraging a Foundry architecture, giving companies freedom to train Adobe’s Firefly models with their guidelines and data, in a commercially safe structure. Nvidia’s Agent Toolkit tests complex workflow loops, including if an AI agent can iterate on a design to match defined aesthetic guidelines.

“These aren’t the chatbots of the past offering generic suggestions. Our AI assistants carry context across tasks, understand your creative intent, anticipate your needs, and learn from what you choose to share, adapting to your style and getting better over time,” explains Ely Greenfield, Chief Technology Officer and SVP of Adobe’s Creative Products.

Collaborative design tool Figma has introduced an Anima agent, often called “God Mode”, which can automate UI designs, and also convert ready designs into production-ready code.

Frugal models, and right connectors

“We have a saying now that Canva is more AI, less UI,” notes Cliff Obrecht, co-founder and Chief Operations Officer at Canva. This summarises a more profound and visible industrywide shift to agentic AI.

Connectors with popular apps, are proving key. Canva, for instance, can link with Google Workspace apps as well as Slack, ChatGPT, Claude, and Notion. Adobe too has connectors, including with ChatGPT, Dropbox and Slack, to name a few. Adobe’s Greenfield notes AI agents “act like capable teammates”.

Versatile “small” models, also less costly to use compared to frontier models, make it viable for enterprises to run agents on longer or continuous tasks. They can be trained for specific tasks. Obrecht explains their models run between five to thirty times cheaper than competition frontier models. “That allow us to power a lot of our workplace for free users too,” he says.

Investments in an AI frontier lab, resulted in frugal Canva Proteus, Canva Lucid Origin, and Canva I2V models. Overall frugality means agents run locally on tablets or laptops, ticking off offline usage and privacy aspects.

Anthropic’s Claude Managed Agents, released this month, allows platforms to build autonomous agents that can “operate autonomously for hours, with progress and outputs that persist even through disconnections.” This could make agents relevant for complex workflows, which take time, precision, and often require redos.

Google is investing in a foundational infrastructure, called Agent2Agent (A2A) Protocol. A2A allows Google’s Gemini agents to “talk” to agents from other platforms. In a creative context, a team’s Adobe Firefly agent could theoretically send an asset built to specific guidelines to a Gemini agent, for inclusion in a corporate presentation.

IPL 2026, MI vs PBKS: Prabhsimran-powered Punjab stay unbeaten, hand Mumbai a reality check

Brief scores: Punjab Kings (198/3 in 16.3 overs) beat Mumbai Indians (195/6 in 20 overs) by 7 wickets. HIGHLIGHTS | SCORECARD

Prabhsimran Singh and Shreyas Iyer made sloppy Mumbai Indians pay for their mistakes as Punjab Kings remained unbeaten in the IPL 2026 season. Chasing a target of 196 runs, PBKS reached the target in just 16.3 overs, with seven wickets remaining as Mumbai lost their fourth game on the trot.

Mumbai posted 195 runs thanks to a fantastic hundred from Quinton de Kock and a fighting fifty from Naman Dhir. But the bowling once again proved to be an issue for the five-time champions, especially in the power play.

The Punjab Kings innings started with a wayward over from Deepak Chahar, where he was taken apart by Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya.

Chahar hasn’t been up to the mark this season, conceding 43 runs in the last two overs he bowled for MI. Hardik decided to role the dice and brought in Bumrah in the second over, which the opening duo was able to negate.

Allah Ghazanfar came on to bowl in the next one, and he didn’t allow Priyansh any room to free his arms, causing his downfall at 15 off nine balls.

Prabhsimran was given a second life by Bumrah in the fourth over as he dropped a half-chance which should have been caught. Cooper Connolly gave MI some instant regret with a couple of sixes and a boundary before Ghazanfar dismissed him.

But Prabhsimran was ready to make MI pay at this point, once again taking down Deepak Chahar with a boundary and a six as PBKS kept themselves steady in terms of the run-rate.

Prabhsimran continued to toy with the bowlers and got to his fifty off just 24 balls as he was being guided well by his skipper Shreyas Iyer.

THE NEW CHASE MASTER?

Whenever the name chase master comes up, Virat Kohli is the first name that comes to everyone’s mind. His exploits in international cricket and IPL speak for themselves, as he recently revealed that he has tried to evolve with the new demands of T20 cricket.

The same can be said about Shreyas as well. For a long period of time, the approach of the Mumbai batter was questioned as he seemed to be tagged as an expert player of spin.

Since the 2023 ODI World Cup, we have seen an evolution of Shreyas as a batter, who suddenly seems immune to short balls and is a master of the run chase.

He has scored three fifties in the last five chases for his side in the IPL, with the failures coming in the 2025 final and the match against GT earlier in the season.

Here he once again came in and just started toying with Bumrah effectively and put in another fifty off just xx balls. But the way he guided Prabhsimran was even better.

He allowed the wicketkeeper to keep playing his brand of cricket, which saw him continue to dominate the bowlers. Shreyas then went into overdrive, taking down Bumrah and Shradul Thakur for a couple of sixes and ensuring that the game was well within MI’s reach.

He fell before the finishing touches were applied, but Prabhsimran ensured that the game was done and Punjab continued their fine form in the tournament.

Udta Teer: Ayushmann Khurrana, Sara Ali Khan collaborate for spy comedy

Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan will be seen together in the upcoming spy comedy Udta Teer. The official announcement of the film, a joint collaboration between Dharma Productions and Sikhya Entertainment, was made on Thursday, April 16. The makers quietly revealed the film along with its release date. This will mark Ayushmann and Sara’s second collaboration after Pati Patni Aur Woh 2, which is set to release later this year.

Ayushmann and Sara`s Udta Teer

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared the release date on X. He wrote, “Ayushmann Khurrana – Sara Ali Khan in spy-comedy Udta Teer – 11 Sept 2026 release. Dharma Productions and Sikhya Entertainment reunite for their fourth collaboration- after Kill, Gyaarah Gyaarah, and The Lunchbox—with Udta Teer. A high-energy spy comedy, the film stars Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan. The makers have also locked the release date: 11 Sept 2026.”

The film is positioned as a high-energy caper, with Ayushmann returning to his signature humour-driven space, this time with a twist on the spy genre. Written and directed by Aakash Kaushik, the project marks his directorial debut.

Udta Teer is backed by Dharma Productions and Sikhya Entertainment, continuing their collaborative streak after films like Kill, Gyaarah Gyaarah, and The Lunchbox. The production team includes Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta, Guneet Monga Kapoor, and Achin Jain.

The film`s update

Udta Teer went on floors in mid-2024 but soon hit a rough patch, and the shoot was halted. In January this year, reports suggested that the spy comedy was in limbo after its first schedule wrapped in 2024. However, things picked up in the first quarter of 2026.

It has been learnt that the leads shot an extensive schedule in Mumbai in February, including a massive song sequence.

Originally, Aakash Kaushik planned to shoot the song, titled Jai Hind, in real locations in Delhi and Mumbai. However, when that didn’t materialise, the makers recreated the setting on a set in Madh Island, Mumbai. A source revealed, “‘Jai Hind’ is set against Independence Day celebrations in Delhi. More than 700 dancers and junior artistes were roped in for the sequence depicting a parade. Karan Johar and Guneet Monga Kapoor felt that a colourful, patriotic song mounted on a grand scale would enhance the film’s appeal. It appears at a critical juncture in the movie. Ayushmann and Sara shot the track over two days.”

Meanwhile, Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan will also be seen together in Pati Patni Aur Woh 2, alongside Rakul Preet Singh and Wamiqa Gabbi. The comedy-drama, initially planned for a Holi release, has been pushed to May 15, 2026, to allow for additional post-production work and the filming of a pending song.

The IPL life: Lungi Ngidi’s taking it slow

The IPL life: Lungi Ngidi’s taking it slow

New Delhi: For the longest time, the dipping slower ball in T20 cricket was associated with West Indian all-rounder Dwayne Bravo. Lately, Lungi Ngidi seems to have become the point of reference for the variation. And it’s only fitting that Bravo suggested Ngidi add it to his arsenal.

The South African had been using it for a while but it became a talking point especially during the recently concluded T20 World Cup in India. He picked up 12 wickets in 7 matches at an economy rate of 7.19 but the slower ball became his attacking option.

Carrying that momentum, he has started his IPL season well. In fact, in Mitchell Starc’s absence, he is essentially leading the pace attack for Delhi Capitals. He has picked up 5 wickets in 4 matches at an economy rate of 8.04.

Talking about the variation’s origin story in a virtual press interaction, he said, “I started at CSK in 2018. Dwayne Bravo had mentioned to me, suggesting that I work on a good slow ball.”

“I asked him to teach me and he showed me a couple of things. It wasn’t perfect off the bat, but I developed it over the years.”

“It seems like everyone’s surprised, but I’ve been bowling the slow ball for years now. It’s just probably giving it a bit more flight and a bit more revs. But it’s still the same slow ball, whether I bowl it on a length or fuller.”

“It did take lots of practice though. “A lot of the guys asked me how I do it. And I think they think it’s easy because I see guys try to bowl it off the full run-up from the first ball. And I just think it takes almost close to a year to get the confidence to deliver this ball. But yeah, it has become one of my weapons. And it takes a lot of confidence to run in and get it to dip on the yorker length.

“There’s times where obviously I will get it wrong and a world-class batsman can still hit it for a boundary. But the difference is that when I get it right, it creates chances. And I think in T20 cricket, that’s what you want.”

With wickets largely favouring batters in the last few tournament editions, it is natural that just bowling fast is not cutting it for the pacers. Either variations or spot-on execution with accuracy helps bowlers excel.

“You want to create chances to take wickets or you want to stem the flow of runs,” said Nigidi. “On these wickets, with the bats that are being made these days and the size of the boundaries, pace can travel so you’ve got to find something different to try to combat that.”

Ngidi acknowledges that with teams aiming to post a score of at least 70 runs in the PowerPlay, bowlers also need to keep evolving to keep the contest between bat vs ball alive.

Having too many options can cause bowlers to overthink or overcomplicate their bowling, but for the 30-year-old, variations are weapons bowlers can rely on when they are caught in a trap. For Ngidi personally, it has ensured that batters are left guessing.

“If you’re going to keep bowling the same thing, the batter’s going to catch you at some point. So you do have to have something. The game doesn’t allow us anymore to just run in and hit the top of all for six balls. It may work for some bowlers who are maybe a bit taller, a bit shorter, or you’ve got a different action.”

“But if you’ve got a pretty clean action and you’re of average height, if you bowl the same six balls, I can probably say two of them are going to go for boundaries. So having the variations is always good because sometimes you need them when something is not working, you try something else.”

No date set for US-Iran talks, as Pakistan pushes to keep diplomacy alive | US-Israel war on Iran News

Islamabad, Pakistan – Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry on Thursday confirmed that the United States and Iran were in discussions – through Islamabad – to hold a second meeting between their negotiators to end their now nearly seven-week war, with a fragile ceasefire announced on April 8 days away from expiring.

But it added that no date had been set for that next round of negotiations, even as Islamabad stepped up a parallel diplomatic push to keep the process alive.

“Who will come, how big the delegation will be, who will stay, and who will go is for the parties to decide,” Foreign Ministry spokesperson Tahir Andrabi told reporters in Islamabad, referring to what upcoming talks might look like. “As a mediator, it’s important for us to keep the talks confidential. We had the details and information of the talks entrusted to us by the negotiating parties.”

Speaking of the first round of talks on April 12 in Islamabad, which concluded without a deal, Andrabi said: “There was neither a breakthrough nor a breakdown.”

The spokesperson confirmed that nuclear issues remained among the key subjects under discussion, but declined to elaborate.

His comments came as Pakistan’s civil and military leadership is travelling across the region in what some observers have begun calling the “Islamabad Process”, reflecting the government’s attempt to frame negotiations as an ongoing diplomatic effort rather than a one-off engagement.

Parallel diplomatic tracks

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Doha on Thursday, the second stop of a four-day regional tour that began with Jeddah on Wednesday, and will see him visiting Antalya next.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Asim Munir arrived in Tehran on Wednesday with a delegation that included Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi.

Munir was received at the airport with a warm hug from Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, who said he was “delighted” to welcome the field marshal and expressed gratitude for Pakistan’s “gracious hosting of dialogue”.

On Thursday, Iranian Parliamentary Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, who led Tehran’s delegation at the Islamabad talks, also met Munir.

Reza Amiri Moghadam, Iran’s ambassador to Pakistan, said at an event in Islamabad that Tehran would not consider any venue other than Pakistan for talks with Washington.

“We will do talks in Pakistan and nowhere else, because we trust Pakistan,” he said.

Muhammad Faisal, a Pakistani security analyst and scholar at the University of Technology Sydney, said the parallel outreach reflected a deliberate division of labour.

“Pakistan’s strategy appears to be dual-tracked: PM Sharif is reassuring Gulf allies and attempting to build a broader support coalition, while CDF Munir is engaged in hard negotiations between the two sides to narrow gaps between Iran and the US, with an eye on extending the ceasefire and reaching a broader understanding,” he told Al Jazeera.

Reports that Munir might travel to Washington, DC after Tehran were denied by security officials, who called them “speculative”. Andrabi said he was not aware of any such development.

In Jeddah on Wednesday, Sharif met Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and expressed “full solidarity and support” for the kingdom following regional escalation, according to Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry. The crown prince praised what Riyadh described as the “constructive role” played by both Sharif and Munir.

In Doha, Sharif met Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and discussed “the regional situation, particularly in the Gulf region”, underscoring “the importance of de-escalation, dialogue and close international coordination to ensure peace and stability”, the prime minister’s office said.

From Doha, Sharif heads to Antalya with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar. They are expected to meet counterparts from Saudi Arabia, Turkiye and potentially Egypt on the sidelines of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum on April 17.

Regional security push

The Antalya meeting is part of a broader diplomatic effort. Turkiye is preparing to host talks on a regional security platform involving Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and possibly Egypt, according to officials familiar with the discussions.

It would be the third such meeting in a month, following earlier rounds of talks in Riyadh and Islamabad.

The goal is to establish a platform for regular, structured cooperation on regional security issues, the officials said, stressing the discussions are distinct from current efforts to end the Iran war.

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan confirmed that discussions were under way, but said no agreement had been finalised.

“This pact is necessary so that countries can be assured of one another,” he told the state-run Anadolu Agency on Monday.

Turkiye also reaffirmed support for the US-Iran peace process on Thursday.

“We will continue to provide the necessary support for the ongoing ceasefire to turn into a permanent truce and eventually lasting peace, without becoming more complex and difficult to manage,” the Defence Ministry said, adding that it expected “the parties will be constructive in the ongoing negotiation process”.

Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry said senior officials from the four countries had also met in Islamabad earlier this week to prepare recommendations for Antalya.

Ceasefire under strain

The two-week ceasefire brokered by Pakistan on April 8, which halted attacks in Iran and the Gulf, is due to expire on April 22. While still holding, it is under increasing strain.

A US naval blockade on Iranian ports remains in place, with the US Central Command saying its forces had turned away nine ships as of Wednesday.

Kamran Yousuf, an Islamabad-based journalist and expert on diplomatic affairs, said he expected the ceasefire to be extended.

“I would be really surprised if the current ceasefire is not extended. There is little appetite on both sides to go back to war. There are enough signs on the ground that if there is no deal before the truce expires, the ceasefire will be extended,” he told Al Jazeera.

Faisal offered a more cautious assessment, warning that failure to secure a second round would shift Pakistan’s role.

“Pakistan’s mediation will not collapse immediately, but Islamabad’s role will change from mediator to crisis manager. If hostilities resume, Pakistan will focus again on brokering a ceasefire,” he said.

Despite uncertainty, signals from both Washington and Tehran have remained cautiously optimistic.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said further talks would “very likely” take place in Islamabad, adding, “We feel good about the prospects of a deal.”

Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said multiple messages had been exchanged with Washington through Pakistan since April 12.

US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that talks could resume within two days and that Washington was “more inclined to go” to Pakistan.

Sticking points remain

The path to a second round remains complicated by unresolved disputes.

Iran has insisted that Lebanon be included in any agreement, arguing that ongoing Israeli strikes there, which have killed more than 2,000 people and displaced 1.2 million, cannot be separated from the wider conflict.

On April 14, the United States convened a trilateral meeting in Washington with the ambassadors of Israel and Lebanon, the first direct engagement between the two sides since 1993.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio mediated the talks, which both sides described as “productive”, but no ceasefire or follow-up meeting was agreed.

Washington has maintained that any Lebanon deal must remain separate from US-Iran negotiations, rejecting Tehran’s position. On Thursday, Israel said its Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu would speak on the phone with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun — but Beirut had not confirmed any plans for a telephone conversation. The two countries do not have formal diplomatic relations.

At Thursday’s briefing, Andrabi aligned Pakistan with Iran on this issue.

“Peace in Lebanon is essential for US-Iran peace talks,” he said, adding that “signs of improvement on the Israel-Lebanon front over the past two days are encouraging.”

Yousuf said a Lebanon ceasefire would send an important signal to Iran.

“Extending the ceasefire to Lebanon will be an important confidence-building measure, a signal from the US that it is serious about a second round. It will also give Tehran good reason to return to the table,” he said.

But he added that the deeper challenge remained Iran’s nuclear programme.

“The nuclear issue is at the heart of the real problem. The flurry of shuttle diplomacy initiated by Pakistan is aimed at bridging the gap between the two sides,” he said.

Grace Wermenbol, a former US national security official and senior visiting fellow at the German Marshall Fund, said Washington’s approach to Lebanon would hinge on Trump’s willingness to pressure Israel.

“A clear pathway to a cessation of hostilities in Lebanon exists,” she told Al Jazeera. “The question is whether Trump will be willing to apply the pressure necessary on Israel to halt its military offensive and allow the Lebanese government to continue its military disarmament efforts. So far, and this is also true for the months preceding the latest escalation between Israel and Hezbollah, we have not seen this pressure materialise.”

The Strait of Hormuz remains another major obstacle.

The waterway, through which roughly a fifth of the world’s oil passes during peacetime, has effectively been blocked by Iran since early in the war, except for ships belonging to countries that have struck individual deals with Tehran.

Starting Monday, the US imposed its own naval blockade on the strait, to prevent any Iran-linked vessel from passing through.

“Iran’s effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz has emerged as the primary issue in US-Iranian negotiations. Opening it is crucial to easing upward pressure on oil prices and instilling confidence in global markets,” Wermenbol said.

She added that Tehran appeared to be betting Washington would eventually back down.

“There is no easy military option here,” she said. “The only way to resolve this issue and remove the threat to maritime traffic will need to involve a diplomatic deal.”

What Namit wrote about Ranbir

Taking to his X account, Namit posted a picture with Ranbir and director Nitesh Tiwari, and wrote, “From watching our fathers share meals and laughter to now, four decades later, coming together to tell one of the greatest epics of all time… it’s been quite a journey.

I have witnessed your journey closely. The highs, the setbacks, the quiet resilience, and the way you’ve stayed so grounded through it all, both on and off screen.”

He added, “There was never a doubt in my mind. There is no one better to portray Lord Rama. You are, without doubt, the finest actor of our generation. Being named among @TIME’s 100 Most Influential People of 2026 feels absolutely deserving. It’s great to see the world finally take notice of you and your talent.

This is just the beginning, my friend. More power to you.”

TIME’s profile of Ranbir Kapoor was written by his fellow Bollywood star, Ayushmann Khurrana. “There are actors who chase legacy and there are actors who become one through their craft. Ranbir Kapoor is the latter,” Ayushmann wrote. In his write-up, Ayushmann emphasised that Ranbir has moved beyond the chatter about box-office and weekend collections in Bollywood.

“In an industry as prolific and passionate as Indian cinema, we often measure greatness in decibels-box-office numbers, fan frenzy, opening weekends. But every once in a while, an actor shifts something quieter yet far more enduring: our emotional vocabulary as an audience. Ranbir has been doing that film after film. In a world where performances are often amplified, Ranbir internalizes. He shows our culture through quiet restraint. He represents the India that is finally learning how to listen to itself and leaves a mark through simple authenticity,” the profile said.
