Son of Sardaar 2: Mrunal Thakur was unaware of senior actor playing her husband

Mrunal Thakur, whose Son of Sardaar 2 has received a lukewarm box office response, revealed she was disappointed for several reasons. The actress shared that she was unaware a senior actor would be cast as her husband, which altered her expectations. She also expressed concern that key emotional scenes with Roshni Walia were edited.

Mrunal Thakur on senior actor playing her husband

In Son of Sardaar 2, Mrunal played Rabia Akhtar, while Chunky Panday portrayed her estranged husband, Danish. The film also starred Ajay Devgn as Jaswinder Singh Randhawa, also known as Jassi, opposite Neeru Bajwa. She revealed that she was unaware that a senior actor would play her husband in the film, because of which her trust was shaken.

“I didn’t know, like, a very senior actor is going to play my husband. Because that just changes my… this is not what I expected from the movie. So, there I failed because there was a little bit of trust that was shaken. But you know what, I don’t have regrets,” she said in an interview with Prema.

Mrunal Thakur also mentioned that a few important scenes between her and Roshni Walia’s character, who played her stepdaughter Saba in the film, were edited out.

“I did not know two important scenes of mine would be edited on the table. Like, there’s this beautiful scene with me and Roshni. She’s actually my sister’s child, and my sister dies in the movie—it’s just a narrative. And I give up my personal life for her betterment. She says, ‘It’s better I don’t have a mother, I have you. And I pray that every girl gets a mother like you, even if you’ve not given birth to me.’ But the way you’ve taken care… that narrative was missing.”

Mrunal Thakur upcoming movies

Mrunal was recently seen promoting Dacoit alongside Adivi Sesh. The film is receiving a positive response at the box office. Up next, she has David Dhawan’s Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai alongside Varun Dhawan. The film also features Pooja Hegde, Mouni Roy, Chunky Panday, Jimmy Shergill, and others in key roles. The film is scheduled to be released on May 22, 2026, in theatres.

She is also rumoured to be a part of Allu Arjun and Atlee’s sci-fi epic Raaka. However, details about the cast remain under wraps.

NEW DELHI: Sakib Hussain had to wait a long time for his IPL moment. And when it arrived, he grabbed it with both hands. After being part of Kolkata Knight Riders in 2024 without getting a game and going unsold in the 2025 auction, the 21-year-old finally found an opportunity with Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2026 – and he returned the favour with a spell of 4-0-24-4 on debut.Alongside Praful Hinge, Sakib delivered a performance against Rajasthan Royals on Monday that stood out not just for impact, but for his game awareness. Known in local circuits for his pace, the young pacer showed a different side to his game, cleverly mixing his lengths and relying heavily on off-pace deliveries. Three of his four wickets came through change of pace rather than outright speed.Having once been labelled the “Rabada of Gopalganj” for his ability to generate pace with a tennis ball, Sakib’s debut was more about adaptation and growth. The comparison, rooted in his early days, took a back seat as he showed control and game awareness on the big stage. At Sunrisers Hyderabad, he also found backing from bowling coach Varun Aaron – himself a former tearaway quick – who has worked closely with young fast bowlers. That support reflected in the confidence Sakib showed on debut, executing plans rather than relying purely on natural attributes. The making of Sakib HussainWith speeds touching 140-plus, Sakib had created a buzz in Bihar’s cricketing circuit long before the IPL call-up. As they say locally, “bhaukaal machana,” he did exactly that with a tennis ball. The buzz eventually reached the Bihar Cricket Association, prompting a search for the young pacer and the organisation of trials. A selection committee was formed, with Nandan Kumar among those tasked with identifying talent. He tracked down Sakib and brought him to trials at the Sonepur Railway Ground.Sakib arrived wearing ordinary sports shoes, torn from several places. Noticing this, Nandan handed him a pair of spikes and a leather ball. Sakib was stunned.“(In Bhojpuri) Ka bhail bey, ball dala na (What happened, go and bowl),” Nandan said loudly.“Ee ka. Pahila ber spike pahinle bani (I am wearing spikes for the first time),” Sakib replied.“Jaa bey, bowing kara ho (Go and bowl now),” Nandan instructed.

.

Shakib Hussain

Sakib put on the spikes, struggled to even walk properly, and then began his run-up. The bowler known for clocking 140 kmph suddenly lost rhythm. Clearly uncomfortable, he walked away from the trials, saying, “bahut bhaari lagat baa, hum naikhin kar sakat [It is too heavy for me. I can’t bowl]”.Nandan understood the situation but refused to let the talent slip away. He picked up the phone and dialled Robin Singh, coach at the GenNext Cricket Academy in Patna, to take charge of the raw, gifted pacer.“His bowling speed was something everyone talked about in Gopalganj. We used to call him Rabada – people would say, ‘Abey Rabadawa kaha gya bey?’ [Hey Rabada, where are you?]. When he first came, he didn’t even have proper shoes. He used to bowl with a tennis ball and had no experience with the leather ball. But the talent was obvious. He missed the first trials, but when he returned for the second after training under Robin Singh, he was a completely different bowler. That’s when he made it to the Bihar team,” Nandan told TimesofIndia.com.From domestic grind to IPL doorOn his Ranji Trophy debut, Sakib he was ready to go full throttle.“Sir, killi ukhadna hai hume (Sir, I will rattle the stumps)” – those were Sakib’s first words when asked about his plan in the team meeting ahead of his debut. And he delivered.Bihar were bowled out for 143 in their first innings, but Sakib made an immediate impact with the ball, striking in his very first over. “Jo bolta hai wo kar ke dikhata hai (He does exactly what he says),” Robin Singh said with a laugh. He has since played six first-class matches and picked up 16 wickets, including a 10-wicket haul in a match. He was later sent to the MRF Pace Foundation, where he honed the art of fast bowling. His performances caught the attention of Chennai Super Kings scouts, who brought him in as a net bowler.“Going to Chennai Super Kings and working as a net bowler was a big step for him. By that time, he had already made a name at the National Cricket Academy. NCA coaches are well connected with scouts, so he started getting invitations for trials from different teams,” Robin said.Eventually, Kolkata Knight Riders picked him for IPL 2024, but he did not get a game. He went unsold the following year before Sunrisers Hyderabad picked him up for Rs 30 lakh in the IPL 2026 auction – a move that has already begun to pay off.

image (2)

The struggle that shaped himThe journey, however, has been anything but easy. Sakib comes from a family where making ends meet was once a daily challenge. His mother sold her jewellery, his father worked as a labourer – all to support his cricket.Robin narrates a story that resonates with the struggles the young pacer endured. “When he first came, he was very quick but inaccurate with the leather ball. The pace was always there. I asked him to stay in Patna, but he said, ‘Mehnga hai sir, paisa nahi hai.’ So we made some arrangements for him and he began training there. Initially, it was clear that he had potential but lacked proper training. We started working on him – he was naturally blessed. That’s how he began bowling with the leather ball properly, and after that, he never looked back,” Robin recalled. From those moments to stepping onto the IPL stage in spikes, Sakib is making the most of the chances that finally came his way.

.

Hussain’s Struggle

Practice with Vaibhav SooryavanshiWhile Sakib’s raw pace was beginning to take shape under the guidance of Robin Singh at the GenNext Cricket Academy in Patna, young batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was training under Manish Ojha at the same place. The coaches would often pit the two against each other in friendly but intense practice battles. At times, Sakib would send Sooryavanshi’s stumps cartwheeling – beating him with sheer pace, sharp swing, or clever slower deliveries. On other days, the batter would turn the tables, launching Sakib over the park and making the young pacer work hard for every ball.It was competitive, but always respectful. They celebrated each other’s moments – a well-taken wicket, a perfectly timed shot. Today, their paths have taken them to different IPL franchises, but that early rivalry continues to define their rise.“We used to set up plans against Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and make them compete against each other. It was fun – there was banter, and we enjoyed it a lot. They complemented each other really well. Vaibhav’s rise came early, while Sakib had to wait, partly because of injuries. Fast bowler hai na.“He is a destiny’s child – a God-gifted talent. These two kids, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Sakib Hussain, are going to achieve big things in Indian cricket. Mark my words,” Robin said.

Airtel’s eSIM abruptness, Oakter revisits UPS and Instagram tools| Business News

Opening thoughts. The ₹3,99,900 Apple Studio Display XDR (which many think is just a very expensive display) has now received clearance from the US Food & Drug Administration for use in diagnostic radiology. This means Apple can now go ahead and release the Medical Imaging Calibrator for users, starting with the US market. At the time of the Studio Display XDR’s release last month, Apple had detailed the new DICOM medical-imaging presets and Medical Imaging Calibrator to enable use in diagnostic radiology, which would allow radiologists to view diagnostic images.

Airtel has refined the process (if that’s really how you want to describe it) of switching physical SIMs to eSIMs, if you are switching from your current iPhone to a new iPhone.
Airtel has refined the process (if that’s really how you want to describe it) of switching physical SIMs to eSIMs, if you are switching from your current iPhone to a new iPhone.

Very few displays have this level of application clearance. LG’s 32HL512D-B medical grade monitor has clearance for general diagnostics usage. Sony’s radiology monitor LMD-DM50 is also cleared for mammography usage. But consumer-first monitors with this level of accuracy? The Studio Display XDR has to be the first.

EDITOR’S CORNER | Airtel’s eSIM shenanigans

It turns out, Airtel has refined the process (if that’s really how you want to describe it) of switching physical SIMs to eSIMs, if you are switching from your current iPhone to a new iPhone.

I have my reservations about this being a refinement, because while simplicity and seamlessness is a good thing, integrating it within Apple’s setup/switching flow means it’ll startle unsuspecting users—and it has happened recently. While there are advantages of an eSIM, I believe the disadvantages far outweigh those.

What’s basically happening is this: If you are setting up a new iPhone to switch from your current iPhone, and choose the “Transfer from Nearby iPhone” option, at some stage you’ll be prompted with messages similar to ‘set up mobile service’ or ‘switch mobile service to new iPhone’. It is easy to believe this is part of the data-switching process, but it isn’t, and can convert your physical SIM to an eSIM.

  • I’ve found the key to this behaviour—if your physical SIM is still in the old iPhone you’re switching from, this unintended SIM switch happens. You must place the physical SIM in the new iPhone before powering it on for setup, to avoid this somewhat surreptitious setup eccentricity.

Still, this should not happen without explicit and clearer instructions that a SIM is being replaced by an eSIM. What does “transfer a phone number” tell us? Absolutely nothing. Looking at you, Airtel and Apple; someone needs to fix this.

There are advantages of an eSIM, one of those being most smartphones now support multiple eSIMs which gives users some convenience about primary and secondary numbers, data usage and international roaming. But these, in my book, far outweigh the inconvenience of difficulties when switching or swapping phones (it may often need something called EDID—a 32-digit device specific code). And don’t even get me started on the fact that SMS services are limited for 24 hours post an eSIM transfer or swap. Absolutely not on a par with simply moving a physical SIM from one device to another.

TECH SPOTLIGHT | Oakter Mini UPS V3.0

There are two realities of living in India. First, 24X7 electricity is still a pipe dream that seems to drift farther away during the summers. Second, disconnection of the home broadband in case of power cuts is inconvenient. Till now, the best option for you would’ve been to buy a typical 600va UPS and connect the modem/router to that. The other alternative was buying one of those “router UPS” devices with built-in batteries, but the methodology of installation was a bit more complicated than most folks would be able to navigate (matching the router connector pin type with the router’s port being one, voltage being another).

Oakter has changed that, with a rather convenient Mini UPS AirFiber V3.0 for routers, and I really like this approach.

This is basically a powerstrip-sized device, with a 12,000 mAh battery capacity (there are six cells rated at 2,000 mAh each) and a universal socket for typical Type D plugs and two-pin plugs. That should cover almost all routers, including those that are provided by Airtel and Jio for home broadband and 5G broadband.

The standard socket type also means you can use a three-way plug, if you’ve deployed a modem+router combination. This is a simple plug-and-play format, and it simply works. At this time, the price tag is ₹2,899 but you can expect some discounts or cashback offers on different e-commerce platforms at different points in time.

The polycarbonate body, with the enamel white finish, should sit easily on any table or console that you may be placing your router on. It has a single switch, or power on or off. And there’s a tiny light which shows the charging status (even if the Mini UPS V3.0 may be powered down). This connects to the wall socket via a three-pin plug, much like any higher capacity UPS. While I haven’t had this UPS long enough to judge how well the battery capacity and stamina reliability aspects hold up over a longer term, this has been able to handle my dual combination of the Airtel Xstream CPE (this is the modem) alongside the Ubiquiti Amplifi router whenever there is a power cut and before the backup power registers its presence.

This gap can be anywhere between 10 seconds to 30 seconds, but in my experience, Oakter has designed this well enough to hold up for as much as 30 minutes—that’s the maximum I’ve stretched this, and this observation should cover the dynamics of most use cases in homes.

For once, all the signs point to a typical router UPS lasting long and bucking the trend wherein these devices have a typical lifecycle of a few months before the battery starts to wear out noticeably. Oakter has done a good job with the V3.0 and this bodes well for simplification of installation design across the competition too.

SECOND THOUGHTS | Instagram’s new content safeguards

A few days ago, Meta Platforms Inc. detailed some updates for Instagram Teen Accounts, in terms of stronger safeguards defining age-appropriate content being visible on the feeds of teenage users. First, a content filter that Meta says is inspired from the 13+ movie ratings criteria and parent feedback by default. “This means that Instagram’s goal is for teens to see content on Instagram that’s similar to what they would see in an age-appropriate movie. Teens under 18 will be automatically placed into an updated 13+ setting, and they won’t be able to opt out without a parent’s permission,” the company says.

There are other changes too. Meta says teens will no longer be able to follow accounts that are noted to regularly share age-inappropriate content, or if their name or bio suggests the account is inappropriate for teens. The social media platform will also block a teen’s ability to see content results for a wider range of mature search terms, such as ‘alcohol’ or ‘gore’, and this is an extension from blocks in place for sensitive topics such as self-harm and eating disorders.

For parents who allow their children a place on Instagram from the teen years, this must come as some level of comfort—but, of course, Meta says no system is perfect and that parents must continue to give feedback.

There, the actor and his producer, Namit Malhotra have been busy promoting their film, hosting special previews and attending several interviews. During one such chat, Yash revealed that his casting as Ravana in ‘Ramayana’ actually stemmed from his collaboration with producer Malhotra on his upcoming film ‘Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups’.

Yash reveals how ‘Toxic’ helped bag ‘Ramayana’ role

Revealing how his gangster film helped him land a role in the epic two-part saga, he shared with Fandango, “I just wanted to take his (Namit Mahotra) company’s advice and wanted to put out something magnanimous and also a great visual experience for the audience around the world. So that’s when we met and that turned into Ramayana, but I should tell you that Namit and DENEG have been a major part in Toxic as well”.

Namit Malhotra on Yash’s casting as Ravana

Malhotra, who is backing ‘Ramayana’, elaborated on the decision to cast Yash as the antagonist. “Yas has been very understated in how he presents the character that he has played. . I think there’s nobody better than him to bring that flair and energy to the screen, and that’s what the world will watch and be incredibly enthusiastic about. One of the places from where I got excited was when I heard the narration of the script and what really established itself very interestingly was ‘What did Ravan do that Ram had to come into the world and resolve that?’ I’d love people to discover that in the film.“He went on to add, “Like I’ve said, everyone knows and has seen it many many times, but the way he has played Ravan and Ranbir has played Ram, will be really exciting for the world at large to experience it.”

Yash on ‘Toxic’

Meanwhile, discussing ‘Toxic’, Yash described the film as a passion-driven, globally oriented project. He shared during a candid interview, “Toxic is a very ambitious project. I believe that the audience has given me success, not to celebrate and have fun. Maybe I always feel that it’s my responsibility to do something better every time they give me success. In India, people have given me enough love and support, so my idea is to present our stories and industry on a global platform. Most of us are working towards it. Toxic is one such example; we shot it in English so that people can understand or to easily communicate our stories better. It’s a large scale action film, but it’s very nuanced. It’s not like any other gangster film, its more metaphoric. When you see the film, you understand a lot more than what’s presented at the surface. “

Yash confirms October release for ‘Ramayana’

During his many discussions with American media platforms, the actor also revealed that ‘Ramayana’ which is slated for a Diwali release, may be eyeing an end-October release in cinemas worldwide.

Champions League: ‘Thrilled to eliminate a team of Barca’s level…’ says Koke

Atletico Madrid sent 10-man Barcelona crashing out of the Champions League en-route to booking a spot in the semi-finals with a 3-2 aggregate victory despite Tuesday’s 1-2 quarter-final second-leg defeat.

Diego Simeone’s side saw their 2-0 lead from last week’s first-leg clash evaporate within the opening half hour through strikes from Lamine Yamal (4th min) and Ferran Torres (24th min) as the Catalan giants turned on the heat. However, the in-form Ademola Lookman (31st min) fired the visitors ahead on aggregate and they managed to cling on to the win, while benefiting from Eric Garcia’s sending off in the 79th minute for a tackle on Alexander Sorloth.

“We’re absolutely thrilled, eliminating a team of Barça’s level. We struggled at the start, but overcame it. The effort was enormous and we are deserved winners of the tie,” said Atletico Madrid skipper Koke.

Katy Perry-Ruby Rose row: Ex-nightclub manager alleges both were drunk

Singer-songwriter Katy Perry is under scrutiny after she was accused of sexual assault by actress Ruby Rose. A police investigation is underway in Australia. Amid the controversy, a former Melbourne nightclub manager has shared his account of the night in question. While claiming both were heavily intoxicated, he denied witnessing any alleged assault.

Melbourne nightclub ex-manager alleges Perry and Rose were drunk

In an interview with the Herald Sun, as per Rolling Stone Australia, the ex-manager of the Melbourne nightclub Spice Market claimed the night in question was a “security nightmare.”

Recalling the instance, the manager shared, “They came in together. They were also with Katy`s hair and make-up girl and another guy who was friends with Ruby,” he claimed. “It was a security nightmare because there were 600 people there, and Katy kept coming out and dancing with everybody and going right in the middle of the mosh pit.”

However, he denied witnessing the alleged incident. “They were in the Genie Bottle and having drinks and stuff, but were mainly in there doing their own thing,” the manager said. “I wasn`t aware of any alleged assault or someone vomiting.”

He claimed that Rose and Perry were both “drunk” and were escorted to exit secretly. “Both had way too much to drink,” he alleged. “To avoid people taking photos of them in that state, we organized a car and driver. We escorted them out the back and up the fire exit and put them in the car together.”

About Ruby Rose and Katy Perry allegations

Rose came forward with the allegation on Sunday night, writing on Threads that Katy Perry had allegedly sexually assaulted her at a club in Melbourne when they were both in their early 20s.

“Katy Perry sexually assaulted me at Spice Market nightclub in Melbourne. Who gives a shit what she thinks,” she wrote. She added, “She didn`t kiss me. She saw me ‘resting’ on my best friend`s lap to avoid her and bent down, pulled her underwear to the side, and rubbed her disgusting vagina on my face until my eyes snapped open and I projectile vomited on her,” as quoted by Variety.

A representative for Perry has issued a statement strongly denying the accusation. According to PEOPLE magazine, the representative for the singer said, “The allegations being circulated on social media by Ruby Rose about Katy Perry are not only categorically false, they are dangerous, reckless lies.”

A police investigation is underway in Australia after the singer was accused.

Mahesh Bhatt gushes over granddaughter Raha, calls her `drop of divinity`

Mahesh Bhatt adores his granddaughter Raha and, like every grandfather, never misses an opportunity to speak about her. In a recent conversation, Mahesh called her a “drop of divinity” and shared how just speaking to the little one brings joy to his life. Notably, the filmmaker is gearing up to host SonyLIV’s chat show Pehchaan.

Mahesh Bhatt calls Raha a “drop of divinity”

In an interview with E-Times, Mahesh Bhatt said, “Raha came into our lives like a drop of divinity. I had barely absorbed the astonishing journey of Alia Bhatt becoming what she has… and then this child arrives. Just the thought of her brings a smile into every pore of my being. Her vitality is fierce, her mind sharp—almost evolutionary.”

He adds, “She gives you a sense of time. You stand at a vantage point and watch the stream—your daughter, her child—and suddenly you see the continuity of life that has flowed for millennia and will continue long after you are gone. And yet, I know I am no different from any other grandfather. Each one, in that moment, rediscovers life. To simply speak to her… that is enough for a day.”

About Alia and Ranbir
