Actress Medha Shankr is currently all geared up for her movie Ginny Weds Sunny 2, in the capacity of the movie`s lead actress.

With her role as the lead in the sequel of the movie, comes inevitable comparisons to Bollywood star Yami Gautam, who headlined the first installment of Ginny Weds Sunny. 

Medha has now addressed these comparisons with complete clarity.

While speaking to IANS in an exclusive conversation, Medha shared,

“Nothing like that. I love Yami Gautam and Aditya Dhar. They are quite aware of how much I admire them. I think Yami has always been a great actor. It happens that after a while, you start getting that kind of respect, it just wasn’t her time earlier.”

She added, “But it’s not about comparison. I am always inspired by people who have done a great job, before me, after me, or alongside me. I have never drawn comparisons, and even if someone else does, it doesn’t matter to me.”

The first part of Ginny Weds Sunny, which released in 2020, featured Yami Gautam and actor Vikrant Massey in lead roles.

The movie was a light-hearted romantic comedy that struck a chord with audiences on OTT.

The sequel, Ginny Weds Sunny 2 has brought on board a fresh pairing with Medha Shankar alongside Avinash Tiwary.

The movie is slated for release on April 24.

NEW DELHI: The hour of judgement has arrived. Unless a tie-breaker is forced and we have to wait for another day, it will be decided on Wednesday on the Mediterranean shores of Cyprus who will take the Women’s Candidates crown and challenge China’s Ju Wenjun in the Women’s World Chess Championship match later this year.In the running for the title, there are three contenders: India’s Vaishali Rameshbabu, Kazakhstan’s Bibisara Assaubayeva, and China’s Zhu Jiner. Vaishali and Bibisara currently lead with 7.5/13 points, followed by Jiner on 7/13. The math is simple yet somewhat disquieting. If Vaishali and Bibisara both win their final games, they head into a tie-break on Thursday. If Vaishali wins and others drop points, she is the champion. However, if she draws and Bibisara wins, the Kazakh prodigy will take the title, mirroring the feat of her partner Javokhir Sindarov, who secured the Open section with a round to spare on Tuesday. If Vaishali and Bibisara draw and Jiner wins, it will again be an all-China affair in the Women’s World Championship match.

On Tuesday, all eyes were on Vaishali’s high-stakes clash against former World Champion Tan Zhongyi. While a win would have put the Indian in the driver’s seat, the game ended in a hard-fought draw.

In his analysis of the round, Grandmaster Pravin Thipsay, speaking to TimesofIndia.com, noted that while Tan has been in poor form with three defeats in the tournament, the game lacked the creative sparks needed to break the stalemate.“Vaishali (with black pieces) played the Queen’s Gambit Accepted Deferred, a system Praggnanandhaa has also started employing. Qe2). “Tan didn’t show the courage to take the A6 pawn with the queen. Qxa6 would have led to a reasonably good advantage,” Thipsay added. “Instead, she played safeguarding chess and forced a draw. Somewhere, it was not a great game; players did not find the best squares for their bishops or the right moments for exchanges.”

The scenarios ahead of final round

The leaderboard took a dramatic turn elsewhere as Zhu Jiner, pushing for a win against Aleksandra Goryachkina, blundered and lost. This allowed Bibisara to join Vaishali at the top following her win over Anna Muzychuk.“It is a very strange turn of events,” Thipsay remarked. “Now, everything depends on the last game. Cognitive warmup. If you hear about Anthropic more than once in our conversation this week, it is purely because there are a few things that need to be cleared up about the AI company. First, a federal appeals court in Washington turned down a plea to pause the “supply-chain risk” designation by the US Department of War. This means Anthropic’s defence contracts will remain restricted. (Second, later in our conversation this week.)

This came about after the company, in February, refused to allow government use of Claude AI for what it claims are fully autonomous weapons and domestic surveillance applications. Anthropic maintains that current frontier AI systems are not reliable enough to make life-or-death decisions without human oversight.

“It is the Department’s prerogative to select contractors most aligned with their vision. But given the substantial value that Anthropic’s technology provides to our armed forces, we hope they reconsider,” Dario Amodei said at the time.

Gemini’s important notebooks

I have to say: Google’s old-school approach to organisation is very much appreciated. Gemini is now getting an update, which extends the scope of integration to Google’s other important AI app NotebookLM, with notebooks core to the Gemini experience—from managing notes for exams to tracking workflows for complex projects or even a new hobby. These are first rolling out for subscribers and then free-tier users in the weeks ahead.

“Think of notebooks as personal knowledge bases shared across Google products, starting in Gemini. They give you a dedicated space to organise your chats and files, and because they sync with NotebookLM, you can unlock even more efficient workflows directly from Gemini,” says Rebecca Zapfel, senior product manager at Google DeepMind.

Core to the Gemini-NotebookLM integration would be to keep all data, research and conversations neatly organised with a seamless sync across both AI apps.

Learn a new term: Cognitive Surrender

If your brain hasn’t become a total mush after handing over all thinking to an AI chatbot, you might want to take the research paper by Wharton School researchers Steven Shaw and Gideon Nave a little seriously.

Shaw and Nave gave 1,372 people a test adapter from the Cognitive Reflection Test with access to a chatbot for help. Critical to this is the Tri-System Theory, which extends Daniel Kahneman’s dual-process model of cognition (”Thinking, Fast and Slow”) to add the third system, which is artificial intelligence.

“We show that people not only use System 3 to assist with reasoning, but often surrender to its outputs—whether correct or flawed. This cognitive surrender illustrates the value and integration of System 3, but also highlights the vulnerability of System 3 usage. Similar to how System 1-driven heuristics lead to systematic bias, System 3 has differential cognitive shortcomings that will challenge decision-makers and society at large,” the researchers conclude.

Certain questions must now be answered by humans. What happens to judgements shaped not by our minds? What happens to effort and intuition when the thinking is done by a machine or an algorithm? And last but not least, how do we preserve elements of agency or reflection if we surrender thinking to a chatbot? I would add another one here—how lazy are we going to become?

The legend of Claude Mythos

In my analysis a few days ago, I noted an irony that’s underlying the entire situation as it unfolds. For an apparently super-powerful AI model that got leaked via Anthropic’s content management system, there are claims this will fix as yet unknown and soon to be known vulnerabilities in all of the world’s software.

It might, or might not (and chances are much higher here), but AI companies continue to weave extraordinarily effective narratives, hoping no one would notice.

Anyway, Anthropic claims that Claude Mythos is so powerful, they will not make this model generally available. Instead, it provides the foundation for something called Project Glasswing to secure every other software. The partners include Apple Inc., Google, Microsoft Corp., Amazon Web Services, Nvidia Corp. and Cisco Inc.

Anthropic says they will commit up to $100 million in usage credits for the Mythos Preview across these efforts. After that, Claude Mythos Preview will be available to participants at $25/$125 per million input/output tokens. It’s important to note the commercial architecture that’s being created here: Claude Mythos is still very much a product in Anthropic’s scheme of things—scarcity, capabilities, and therefore premium pricing strategies will be at work.

Tara Sutaria dismisses rumours

Recently, Tara joined filmmaker Farah Khan in her latest vlog on YouTube and spoke about her life and work.

During the conversation with the filmmaker, Tara dismissed the chatter around the film getting pushed once again. In the middle of the chat with Farah, Tara confirmed the release remains on June 4, 2026.

Produced by Venkat K Narayana and Yash under the banners of KVN Productions and Monster Mind Creations, the film was initially slated for a worldwide theatrical release on March 19 and clash with Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar 2, which is directed by Aditya Dhar. However, the clash was averted as the film was pushed back from its March 19 release to June 4 because of the disruption in the Middle East due to the Iran-Israel conflict.

Written by Yash and Geetu Mohandas and directed by Geetu Mohandas, Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups features Yash in the lead alongside Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Huma Qureshi, Rukmini Vasanth, and Tara Sutaria.

The film ran into controversy when its first teaser was released with many coming forward to complain about certain scenes with many dubbing it as “grossly obscene, sexually explicit.”

The Women’s Commission slammed its teaser for the depiction of a sex scene, and a Christian group filed a complaint with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and others, claiming that the teaser hurts religious sentiments. Earlier this month, Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce president Dr Jayamala commented on the row and said that the public must not rush to conclusions on the basis of a teaser alone.

Tara’s first look as Rebecca from the film was released on January 3 this year. At that time, Geetu Mohandas took to social media to share a note detailing her instinctual desire to ‘shield Tara.’ She expressed, “I’ve always felt a natural affection to safeguard Tara. Maybe it’s because she has a reserved spirit or perhaps it’s the protective shell she finds comfort in. And maybe it doesn’t need to be labeled.”

Geetu remarked, “She absorbed more than she articulated. She listened more than she disclosed. I often pondered if I should guide her more closely. Yet in her quietness, something profound was developing. When she finally embraced her role, what unfolded was nothing less than stunning, stemming from an inner awareness she had all along. She completely astonished me, in the most wonderful way. I am certain she will amaze everyone else as well. @tarasutaria I cherish you”.

The film, announced in 2023, went on the floor in 2024. It was simultaneously shot in Kannada and English.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru all-rounder Tim David was on Monday fined 25 percent of his match fee and docked one demerit point for “disobeying an umpire`s instruction” during their IPL game against Mumbai Indians here.

David was guilty of breaching Level 1 of IPL`s code of conduct for players and team officials, while Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya was also fined for maintaining slow over-rate.

The IPL said in a statement that David was found to have breached the Article 2.4 of the IPL`s code of conduct. Pandya was fined after RCB`s innings took a little over two hours to finish.

“Hardik Pandya, Captain, MI, has been fined for maintaining a slow over-rate. As this was his team`s first offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL`s Code of Conduct, he has been fined Rs 12 lakhs,” the IPL said.

In fact, the contest had players from both teams taking several pauses amid hot and humid conditions. While the first innings ended in two hours and one minute, the second innings finished in two hours and four minutes.

David is said to have not handed over the ball to the umpires twice during RCB`s innings in which the burly Australian scored a quick 16-ball 34 not out with three sixes and two fours.

“The first incident occurred when the umpires changed the ball during the 18th over (17.2) of RCB`s batting innings. He wanted to have a look at the ball and did not hand it over despite being repeatedly asked to do so,” the IPL said.

“The second incident occurred during the 20th over (19.2), when he again did not hand over the ball to the umpires, amounting to repeated failure to comply with the instructions or directives of the umpires,” the IPL said, adding that David has admitted to the offence and accepted the sanction.

Simran Ashwini, who previously worked as an assistant director on Manjule’s Marathi production Ghar Banduk Biryani (2023), is making her acting debut with the Vijay Varma, Sai Tamhankar, and Kritika Kamra-led series. 

Being a part of Manjule’s on-screen world is something the newcomer had never imagined. “Ghar Banduk Biryani was my first exposure to the intensity and discipline that filmmaking demands. After that, when Nagrajji encouraged me to audition for Matka King, it felt like a moment of trust to me. On set, there were moments when I doubted myself, but his quiet reassurance, patience, and guidance helped me find my footing.”

Ashwini plays one of the four daughters to Gulshan Grover, whose character is pitted against Varma’s protagonist in the drama set in Mumbai of the 1960s. Manjule recalled that his casting team was in search of a fresh face for the part. The director told mid-day, “The production team auditioned many candidates in search of a fresh face. Ultimately, Simran’s audition stood out due to the freshness and vulnerability she brought to the role.”

What was once positioned as one of the year’s biggest releases has now become a project shrouded in uncertainty. Salman Khan’s Maatrubhumi: May War Rest in Peace was said to release in April and then apparently pushed to June. Now, the latest buzz is that the war drama — originally envisioned as a retelling of the 2020 Indo-China Galwan Valley clash — is stuck in limbo amid mounting regulatory complications.

Sources have told mid-day that the film, despite being rechristened and its tone reworked, is no closer to reaching viewers. Apparently, the makers have not submitted it to the Central Board of Film Certification yet. “At this stage, after making the necessary changes, the team is trying to understand what would be the next steps to ensure its smooth release. No department, whether the Ministry of Defence, the Army, or the CBFC, has seen the film yet,” revealed a source.

Trouble began right after the first teaser was launched in December 2025, which elicited sharp reactions from Chinese state-affiliated media, including Global Times that accused the film of “distorting facts”. Sources said that in February, the Indian government authorities informally advised the makers to remove explicit references to China and the Galwan conflict, citing India’s improving relations with its neighbouring country. A few weeks later, Khan unveiled the new title — Maatrubhumi. This was followed by rumours that director Apoorva Lakhia is reshooting parts of the war drama. 

The source clarified, “Maatrubhumi has not been rewritten from scratch or reshot. In the Mumbai leg, the team shot additional parts depicting family sequences and love stories of a few supporting characters. Now, the makers have shifted the film’s focus on family and relationships, making it a human drama. That said, a bit of the war portions have been retained. But if you remove references to China and Galwan, what is the conflict about? That’s the central question they’re grappling with.”
