The updated Speed Twin 900 features a slimmer and sportier design while retaining its classic styling. The rear section is now narrower, and minor adjustments make the riding posture more comfortable. The swing arm is made of aluminium, reducing its weight.
It also comes with a sculpted fuel tank in a refreshed color scheme, short fenders, a compact tail lamp, and blacked-out elements. The blacked-out components and black-wrapped stainless steel exhaust headers and upswept exhausts further enhance its minimalistic yet classic look.
The bike is equipped with USD forks, rear dual shocks, disc brakes at both ends with dual-channel ABS, and four-piston calipers. It rides on an 18-inch front and 17-inch rear wheel combination. It offers a round digital instrument cluster with a TFT screen. It also gets Bluetooth connectivity as part of the update.
The Speed Twin 900 is powered by a 900cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine with a 270-degree firing order. It produces 64bhp and 80Nm of torque, paired with a 5-speed gearbox. The motorcycle offers two riding modes — Road and Rain.
In India, the Speed Twin 900’s closest rival is the Kawasaki Z900 RS, priced at Rs 16.9 lakh (ex-showroom), nearly double its cost.
United States President Joe Biden has commuted the sentences of 37 of the 40 people on federal death row in his weeks in office before the second term of President-elect Donald Trump.
The move, announced on Monday, means that the 37 individuals will instead face life in prison for their convictions, according to the White House. Three other inmates convicted of deadly hate or “terrorism” crimes will continue to face execution.
“Make no mistake: I condemn these murderers, grieve for the victims of their despicable acts, and ache for all the families who have suffered unimaginable and irreparable loss,” Biden said in a statement.
“But guided by my conscience and my experience as a public defender, chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Vice President, and now President, I am more convinced than ever that we must stop the use of the death penalty at the federal level,” he said.
The announcement comes just weeks before Trump is set to take office. The president-elect, whose first four-year term ended in 2021, has regularly called for the death penalty for undocumented migrants who kill US citizens.
During his first term, he oversaw the execution of 13 federal inmates – the most under any president in the last 120 years.
Biden, who defeated Trump in the 2020 election, campaigned as an opponent of the death penalty. His administration imposed a moratorium on most federal executions when he took office.
“These commutations are consistent with the moratorium my administration has imposed on federal executions, in cases other than terrorism and hate-motivated mass murder,” Biden said in the statement.
Three inmates will remain on federal death row.
They include Dzhokhar Tsarnaev – who helped carry out the Boston Marathon bombing that killed three in 2013 – and Dylann Roof – a white supremacist who in 2015 shot and killed nine Black churchgoers in a racist attack in Charleston – South Carolina.
Robert Bowers, who killed 11 Jewish worshippers during a 2018 mass shooting at the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh, will also continue to face execution.
Meanwhile, nine people convicted of murdering fellow prisoners, four convicted of murders committed during bank robberies and one who killed a prison guard were among those who had their sentences commuted.
Also included was Billie Jerome Allen, who was convicted in 1998 at the age of 19 for killing a security guard during a robbery in Missouri.
The case has long attracted attention for what Amnesty International has described as “serious concerns about racial bias, his young age at the time, and a lack of evidence linking him to the crime.”
‘Cruel, inhuman and degrading punishment’
Biden’s announcement follows urging from several rights groups, who pointed to Trump’s rhetoric and history when it comes to federal executions.
There had been no executions at the federal level since 2003 when Trump took office. The last federal execution in the US took place on January 16, 2021, four days before Trump left the White House.
In a statement, Amnesty International USA Executive Director Paul O’Brien applauded Biden’s move, but said he needed to go further.
“The death penalty is the ultimate cruel, inhuman and degrading punishment, and President Biden’s eleventh-hour decision before leaving office to commute these death sentences is a big moment for human rights,” O’Brien said.
“The President’s decision is a significant step towards his 2020 promise to end the death penalty at the federal level and incentivize states to follow suit,” he said.
The death penalty has been abolished in 23 of the 50 US states. Six others – Arizona, California, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania and Tennessee – have moratoriums in place.
In 2024, there were 25 executions in the US at the state level.
The British-born wife of deposed Syrian president Bashar al-Assad is not seeking a divorce, a Kremlin spokesman has said.
Reports in Turkish media had suggested Asma al-Assad wanted to end her marriage and leave Russia, where she and her husband were granted asylum after a rebel coalition overthrew the former president’s regime and took control of Damascus.
Asked about the reports in a news conference call, Dmitry Peskov said, “No, they do not correspond to reality.”
He also denied reports that Assad had been confined to Moscow and that his property assets had been frozen.
Russia was a staunch ally of the Assad regime and offered it military support during the civil war.
But reports in Turkish media on Sunday suggested the Assads were living under severe restrictions in the Russian capital, and that the former Syrian first lady had filed for divorce and wanted to return to London.
Mrs Assad is a dual Syrian-British national, but the UK foreign secretary has previously said she would not be allowed to return to Britain.
Speaking in parliament earlier this month, David Lammy said: “I want it confirmed that she’s a sanctioned individual and is not welcome here in the UK.”
He added he would do “everything I can in my power” to ensure no member of the Assad family “finds a place in the UK”.

She moved to Syria in 2000 at the age of 25 and married her husband just months after he succeeded his father as president.

Just one month later, Mrs Assad was criticised for remaining silent while her husband violently repressed pro-democracy campaigners at the start of the Syrian civil war.
The conflict went on to claim the lives of around half a million people, with her husband accused of using chemical weapons against civilians.
In 2016, Mrs Assad told Russian state-backed television she had rejected a deal to offer her safe passage out of the war-torn nation in order to stand by her husband.
She announced she was being treated for breast cancer in 2018 and said she had made a full recovery one year later.
She was diagnosed with leukaemia and began treatment for the disease in May this year, the office of then-President Assad announced.
A statement said she would “temporarily withdraw” from public engagements.

A wave of Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip has killed at least 50 Palestinians in the past 24 hours.
One of the attacks overnight and into Monday hit a tent camp in the al-Mawasi area, a so-called humanitarian “safe zone”, killing eight people, including two children.
The Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in the central city of Deir el-Balah said three bodies arrived after an air attack on a school-turned-shelter in the Nuseirat refugee camp.
An attack on a civilian vehicle, carrying displaced people from one area to another in al-Mawasi, followed that, killing two.
The third attack was on a vehicle carrying security personnel – volunteers who are working to secure the delivery of humanitarian aid to designated points.
In separate attacks, the military targeted a school housing displaced people in the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza, killing one person.
It also killed four people in an area north of the camp, according to Al Jazeera Arabic and Palestinian news agency Wafa.

Authorities in Guatemala have resisted efforts by members of a Jewish sect to recapture 160 children rescued from its premises.
The children were taken into care on Friday when police raided a farm used by the Lev Tahor movement, which is under investigation in several countries for serious sexual offences.
Interior Minister Francisco Jimenez said they were allegedly being abused by a member of the sect.
But on Sunday, sect members broke into a care centre where they were being held in an effort to get them back, leading to scuffles with police.
The Lev Tahor sect is known for extremist practices and imposing a strict regime on its followers.
It advocates child marriage, inflicts harsh punishments even for minor transgressions and requires women and girls as young as three years old to completely cover up with robes.
The sect accuses the Guatemalan authorities of religious persecution.
The community settled in Mexico and Guatemala between 2014 and 2017. In 2022, members of the sect were arrested in a police operation in the southern Mexican state of Chiapas, but they were later freed for lack of evidence.
The events began when police raided the sect’s farm in Oratorio, south-east of Guatemala City, on Friday, taking the children into care.
Prosecutors said there were suspicions of “forced pregnancy, mistreatment of minors and rape”.
But two days later, about 100 of the children’s relatives – all members of the sect – gathered outside the centre where they were being held to call for their return.
Some sect members then forced open the gate and tried to abduct the children and adolescents sheltered there, the Attorney General’s Office said.
But the children were intercepted by the authorities and put into a white minibus, local media reported.
With police help, the centre “managed to locate and protect everyone again”, the Attorney General’s Office added.
Officials had previously tried to check on the children’s wellbeing, but were prevented from entering the farm by sect members.
Authorities estimate that the community is made up of about 50 families residing in Guatemala, the US, Canada and other countries.
The Jewish Community of Guatemala has issued a statement disowning the sect, describing it as foreign to its own organisation.
It expressed support for the Guatemalan authorities in carrying out necessary investigations “to protect the lives and integrity of minors and other vulnerable groups that may be at risk”.
