IPL 2026: Super Giants eye improved home record against depleted Titans

Lucknow Super Giants may have unearthed a new star in Mukul Choudhary, but their poor home record remains a major concern as they host Gujarat Titans in their Indian Premier League clash here on Sunday. Both teams head into the contest on the back of morale-boosting away wins. GT sealed a thrilling one-run victory over Delhi Capitals for their first win of the season, while LSG registered two impressive wins on the road against Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders.

However, LSG have struggled to turn the Ekana Cricket Stadium into a fortress. They lost six of their eight matches here last season, including five in a row, en route to a seventh-place finish, and overall, have managed just nine wins from 22 games at the venue. This season too, they started with a batting collapse at home, getting bowled out for 141 in the six-wicket loss to DC. With this being only their second home game this year, LSG will be desperate to set the record straight.

The team, though, will not be short on confidence after back-to-back away wins. The last outing against KKR was particularly special, marking the emergence of a new `finisher` in Mukul. The unheralded 21-year-old from Rajasthan lit up the stage with a stunning six-hitting display, powered by lightning bat speed and a wide range of strokes, including the trademark helicopter shot of his idol, MS Dhoni, to emerge as the latest IPL sensation.

Another positive is the return to form of Ayush Badoni, who struck a half-century against KKR to set up the chase. Badoni being among runs adds depth to an already formidable top-five featuring Mitchell Marsh, Aiden Markram, skipper Rishabh Pant and Nicholas Pooran. With this being an afternoon match, the contest against Gujarat`s spin duo of Rashid Khan and Washington Sundar on a surface expected to be slow and offer variable bounce could prove decisive.

Rashid has been back to his best in the previous game against DC, returning with Player-of-the-Match figures of 3/17 that made the difference in their one-run win. Amid criticism that opposition batters had begun to decode his variations, Rashid responded strongly with a vintage display in the middle overs, with his wickets including that of Delhi`s breakout star Sameer Rizvi for a golden duck after three successive fifties. There has also been positive news on the batting front for GT, with England veteran Jos Buttler returning to form with a 27-ball 52, while skipper Shubman Gill marked his comeback from injury with a sparkling 70 at the top.

Salman Khan's Maatrubhumi 'sanitised', references to China removed and 40% film reshot after diktat from centre: Report

Salman Khan’s upcoming war drama, Maatrubhumi, has seen its fair share of changes over the last few weeks. Till March, the film was titled Battle of Galwan and was said to be based on the real clash in Galwan Valley between the Indian and Chinese forces. But now, reports say that not only has the title been changed, but references to China and the Galwan Valley have also been removed from the film, with extensive reshoots underway.

Salman Khan’s war drama being reshot

A Bollywood Hungama report quoted a source close to the development, saying this was done as per a directive from the Ministry of Defence, which feels that portraying China as an adversary is not the right call, as relations between the two countries have improved.

“Earlier, the film was inspired by a real event. But as per the request of the Ministry of Defence, Salman Khan and director Apoorva Lakhia reshot the film by adding a fictional spin to the story. Accordingly, he reshot nearly 40% of the film as he added some romantic scenes, backstory, etc. The makers submitted the new cut, hoping that they would get the NOC. But the Ministry still has apprehensions,” the source was quoted as saying in the report.

The report also said that the Ministry has requested that China not be mentioned in the film at all. The source added, “One of the requests to Salman Khan is that China shouldn’t be mentioned in the film. This was communicated to the makers in advance. The cut of Maatrubhumi, which was submitted earlier this month, has no mention of China.” Extensive reshoots of the film are underway to ‘sanitise’ the film, the report added.

Opposition from Chinese media

The film’s teaser, released in December, showed Salman leading his troops in a close combat battle against Chinese forces in Eastern Ladakh. It was touted to be based on the clash between Indian soldiers and Chinese troops at the Galwan Valley in 2020. The teaser sparked controversy when state-backed media in China, particularly the Global Times, claimed that it “distorts facts” and fuels anti-China sentiment.

All about Maatrubhumi

Produced by Salma Khan under the banner of Salman Khan Films and directed by Apoorva Lakhia, Maatrubhumi stars Salman as an Indian Army Colonel. The makers say that the film now aims to present an unflinching portrayal of courage, sacrifice, and resilience, while balancing the intensity of conflict with the intimacy of love and family. No release date has been announced yet.

‘Big punch in the face’: Mikel Arteta after 1-2 loss against Bournemouth

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta was distraught after losing 1-2 to Bournemouth in the English Premier League on Saturday.

“It’s a big punch in the face. We were far from efficient. The first chance they had to attack the box, it’s a deflection, a bad defending action and it’s a goal. That’s something we have to recover from. The second-half you expect a different game. We did a lot of strange things today,” said a frustrated Arteta.

The visitors took the lead at a nervy Emirates through Junior Kroupi (17th min), but Mikel Arteta’s men levelled through a Viktor Gyokeres penalty later in the 35th minute.

The Gunners made multiple attacking changes early in the second period, but struggled to create clear-cut chances against Andoni Iraola’s enterprising team. Bournemouth clinched the winner in the 74th minute after a fluid move finished off by Alex Scott, who rifled the ball past David Raya.

Arsenal remain on 70 points after 32 games, nine points clear of second-placed Manchester City, however the Sky Blues have two games in hand.

Meanwhile, Bournemouth boss Iraola hailed his team’s  impressive display. “We showed great personality in a big game. We were quite brave. [It was] a complete performance,” said Iraola.

Teenage sensation Gout Gout shatters Usain Bolt’s record, runs 200m sprint in 19.67 seconds

Teenage sensation Gout Gout shatters Usain Bolt’s record, runs 200m sprint in 19.67 seconds

Gout Gout delivered a landmark performance at the Australian Athletics Championships on Sunday, clocking 19.67 seconds in the 200 metres to win the title and go past a benchmark set by Usain Bolt early in his career.

Bolt’s best time before the age of 23 was 19.93 seconds. Gout, at 18, has now gone significantly quicker, adding another layer of context to what is already a standout performance.

For an athlete of his age, the time places him among the quickest in the world this season. It also marks a sharp improvement from his previous best of 20.02, underlining the speed of his progression over the past year.

Gout had previously dipped under 20 seconds, but that effort came with the assistance of a tailwind and was not recognised as an official mark. Sunday’s run, therefore, marked his first sub-20 performance under legal conditions, and one that immediately stands out in the broader sprinting landscape.

The final itself saw a strong field, with Aidan Murphy finishing second in 19.88 and Calab Law taking third place in 20.21. Gout, however, separated himself through the latter half of the race, maintaining control after the bend and pulling away in the closing stages.

He also benefited from the absence of one of the expected contenders, with Lachlan Kennedy withdrawing ahead of the final. Even so, the time and execution ensured the focus remained firmly on the teenager.

For a sprinter still in his teens, the significance lies not just in the number, but in what it suggests about his development. The 200 metres demands control through the bend and the ability to sustain speed into the straight, areas that typically take time to refine.

WHO IS GOUT GOUT?

Gout Gout has emerged as one of the most closely watched young athletes in Australian track and field over the past two seasons. Rising through the junior ranks, he established himself early with a series of strong performances and national age-group records.

His sprinting is built around acceleration and stride efficiency. Coaches have pointed to his ability to hold form through the latter stages of a race, which has made the 200 metres a natural fit for his skill set. He has shown control through the bend and an ability to maintain speed into the final stretch, elements that are critical at higher levels.

Another key part of his development has been his exposure to senior competition. He has regularly raced against older athletes, gaining experience in handling race pressure and adapting to different conditions. That exposure has contributed to how quickly he has been able to translate junior promise into senior performances.

His progression has come through consistent improvements in timing and race execution. The drop from 20.02 to 19.67 reflects both physical development and technical refinement, particularly in how he carries speed off the bend and through the closing stages of the race.

At the same time, his career remains at an early stage. Sprinting at the highest level demands consistency over time, and the next phase will be about sustaining performances at this level across competitions.

For now, his run at the Australian Athletics Championships provides a clear marker of where he stands. It sets a new benchmark in his career and places him in a conversation that, until now, has been reserved for far more established names.

– Ends
