The latest song from Kalees’ upcoming action thriller Baby John is out, and it’s a complete banger. The Punjabi quotient of Diljit Dosanjh‘s vocals, Irshad Kamil’s lyrics, and Varun Dhawan‘s energy perfectly balance the Telugu tadka of composer S Thaman, singer Dhee, and actor Keerthy Suresh. What’s in the song?

The song is set to banger beats by S Thaman, who has skillfully merged the Punjabi beats and the Telugu flavour. In the video, Keerthy Suresh matches Varun Dhawan’s energy, with Diljit popping up to escalate the mood further. S Thaman also makes an appearance, posing with the three of them. While the male vocals are by Diljit, Australian singer Dhee has lent the female vocals. She’s best known for singing Rowdy Baby alongside Dhanush in Balaji Mohan’s Tamil action comedy Maari 2 last year.

Varun, Diljit, and Keerthy announced the release of the song with a fun Reel on Instagram. Diljit is chilling in his green room, during his ongoing Dil-Luminati Tour, when Varun comes to him, asking him to shake a leg on Nain Matakka. Diljit begins to spell out his busy schedule – all the cities he’s touring as part of the tour – when Keerthy intervenes and politely requests him to oblige. Diljit and Keerthy begin dancing on Nain Matakka, before Varun joins them too, claiming that it’s his song as well.

The internet was in love with Varun and Keerthy’s chemistry in the song. A user commented on YouTube, “Varun and keerthy chemistry (fire emoji).”Another wrote, “Varun × keerthy × thaman × diljeet × dhee = blockbuster (fire emoji).” “Unexpectedly super surprising stuff from Keerthy Suresh,” read a third comment, while a fourth one stated, “No Doubt Varun Dhawan is best dancer of bollywood (fire emojis).”

In Baby John, Varun plays a police officer and single father, portraying a character who is not afraid to confront adversaries head-on. It also stars Jackie Shroff, Wamiqa Gabbi, and Rajpal Yadav. Produced by Atlee, it’s slated to release in cinemas this Christmas on December 25.

Glicked, the word used to describe the joint global release of musical adaptation Wicked and action epic Gladiator II, has opened to a gravity-defying performance at the box office. By Sunday, the two films racked up a combined $270.2 million in global ticket sales over the weekend, a gift to cinemas heading into what may be a record-setting holiday season. The robust box office returns provided reassurance to Hollywood, which has weathered cost-cutting and layoffs amid forecasts of the death of cinema as consumers gravitated to streaming video services.

Wicked, the first of two Universal Pictures films based on a Broadway prequel to The Wizard of Oz, topped the domestic and global box office. It pulled in $114 million at US and Canadian theatres, plus $50.2 million in international markets, for a global total of $164.2 million.

According to the studio, it was the biggest opening weekend for a film based on a Broadway musical, ahead of Universal’s 2012 release Les Miserables’ global debut.

Gladiator II, the sequel to the 2000 Oscar-winning classic Gladiator, earned $106 million worldwide, including $55.5 million from domestic sales. The film, which was released last weekend outside the US, had an overall box office tally of $221 million.

What is Glicked?

The two films were subbed Glicked by fans due to their releasing together and the diverse nature of their genre, cast, and target audiences. While Wicked is a light musical aimed at younger audiences and women, Gladiator II is an epic bloodfest set in ancient Rome, appealing more to men. The phenomenon is similar to when Barbie and Oppenheimer were released together. The two films collaborated instead of colliding, creating a rare cohesive box office phenomenon. Fans had hoped for Glicked to recreate that. Even the actors from the two films had rallied behind this joint cause.

Did Glicked beat Barbenheimer?

Barbie and Oppenheimer – or Barbenheimer as it was called – had set the bar with a $245-million domestic opening weekend in July 2023. Glicked fell well short of them, bringing in $169.5 million at domestic theaters, helping lift the weekend box office to $201.9 million.

Still, the two films delivered a much-needed jolt to movie theaters, after anticipated fall films such as Joker: Folie a Deux and Venom: The Last Dance underperformed at the box office.

Studios and theatre owners are hopeful that Moana 2 will lead next weekend to the strongest Thanksgiving-period sales in history.

Wicked stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo in the story of a misunderstood, green-skinned student of magic who becomes the Wicked Witch of the West. In a campaign reminiscent of the hoopla surrounding Barbie, Wicked tie-ins include pink and green drinks at Starbucks, a fashion line at Target and a Betty Crocker cupcake mix.

Gladiator II stars Paul Mescal, Pedro Pascal and Denzel Washington in a story of political intrigue that unfolds 16 years after the original film.

Celebrating cinema and icons who created a legacy in the industry, the 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) was held in Goa. The festival opened dialogues on subjects that matter and unveiled the untold stories of the cine world. One such story was revealed by the ‘Animal’ star Ranbir Kapoor as he recalled his grandfather Raj Kapoor.
Raj Kapoor is not a name but a brand in itself. He established himself and the RK studios from scratch and to date is counted among the unbeatable forces of the industry. In addition to his work in the world of cinema, the late Raj Kapoor was famous for throwing the most iconic Holi parties. Recalling the same at IFFI, Ranbir Kapoor described them as scary. He was too young back then and to see everyone coloured in black and other hues sent chills down his spine. However, one of the best things was that in those parties Raj Kapoor not only invited actors and actresses, but everyone who worked on the sets; be it a camera person or a spot dada.
“I was really young, so it was a very scary environment for me. Everyone was coloured in black and many other colours, sabko aise truck mai faika jaaraha hai (everyone was being thrown into trucks). You might have better memories, I guess,” he said. Rahul replied, “You were right about that, sab kaale neele peele hote the (Everyone used to be drained in different colours). It used to be a day celebration,” shared Ranbir while talking to filmmaker Rahul Rawail.
He continued, “What I have heard is that not just the actors and actresses, it was everybody in the film industry. Even the people working in camera, production, everybody used to come and celebrate together.”
Irrespective of getting the iconic status, the parties were gradually stopped. Ranbir Kapoor said that there came a point when the crowd was too much to handle as anyone used to simply walk in.
Further, in the same conversation, Ranbir with a heart filled with respect and love praised the contribution of Raj Kapoor to Hindi cinema. He confessed he loved his directing skills more than his acting prowess. Referring to his amazing work with love stories like ‘Bobby,’ he said that if given a chance, he would have loved to see him direct his ‘Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani,’ and celebrate characters and music.

Mumbai: From attending multiple acting workshops to cutting his hair short and following a strict diet to get lean, actor Gurmeet Choudhary did everything for his character in the new season of “Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein.” 

To embody the intense and complex character, Gurmeet underwent rigorous preparation, shedding 10kg through a combination of a strict diet and daily sprints.

Speaking about the experience, Gurmeet shared, “Portraying Guru was both challenging and exhilarating. My director, Siddharth Sengupta, had a clear vision for the character, which required me to prepare extensively.

“I attended multiple acting workshops, cut my long hair short, and followed a strict diet to get lean. To achieve the desired look, I went to Bandra daily for sprinting, eventually losing 10kg.”

He said that the “entire process was incredibly rewarding, and I’m grateful Siddharth sir believed in me and saw the perfect Guru in me.”

“Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein” is a romantic crime thriller television series on Netflix created and directed by Sidharth Sengupta. The series also stars Shweta Tripathi and Anchal Singh in the lead roles along with Saurabh Shukla, Surya Sharma, Arunoday Singh and Brijendra Kala playing supporting roles

The season also sees the entry of Gurmeet Choudhary who is Purva’s friend and vows to bring her back home safely. It’s a deadly game of survival, and with Gurmeet Choudhary’s powerful entry this season, the stakes only get higher.

After a tense confrontation with Jamie, who is struggling with the aftermath of his father’s murder, Sarah thinks she’s mended things and pulls over to take Jamie’s call. But then, the episode throws a curveball by showing how John’s death affects Jamie, followed by an unexpected and dramatic conclusion—Sarah’s shocking murder. Even though John’s death was expected because Kevin Costner was leaving the show, Sarah’s death totally catches everyone by surprise, bringing a big twist to the family drama that’s been going on.
