The new lineup is expected to come with at least two offerings, namely the Oppo Reno 13 and the Reno 13 Pro. The Pro model is speculated to run on MediaTek Dimensity 8350 SoC. Additionally, an alleged render of the Oppo Reno 13 has leaked on Weibo showcasing an iPhone-style rear design.

Electronic Arts Goes Through Massive Shake-Up, Splits Into EA Sports and EA Entertainment

Electronic Arts Goes Through Massive Shake-Up, Splits Into EA Sports and EA Entertainment

Electronic Arts is undergoing a massive internal restructuring, splitting EA Games’ studios into two separate organisations. The shakeup has now formed separate divisions EA Sports and EA Games, with the latter further being rebranded to EA Entertainment. As the name suggests, EA Entertainment will build upon owned blockbuster IPs, as well as licensed ones through strong collaborations. However, the name change from ‘Games’ to ‘Entertainment’ suggests that the company is looking to expand into media beyond video games. Meanwhile, EA Sports will continue to focus on sports simulation franchises such as Madden NFL and EA Sports FC (formerly FIFA).

“We’re building the future of interactive entertainment on a foundation of legendary franchises and innovative new experiences, which represents massive opportunities for growth,” Andrew Wilson, CEO, EA, said in a blog post. Laura Miele, who previously served as EA’s COO, will now lead EA Entertainment as the President, overseeing key studios and ‘empowering them with more creative ownership.’ She will work closely with other key executives like Vince Zampella, who will continue to lead the studios responsible for Apex Legends and Star Wars (Respawn Entertainment), alongside Battlefield (DICE). Meanwhile, Cam Weber has been appointed President of EA Sports and will be responsible for leading its sports simulation portfolio and racing games. Wilson will overlook both divisions as the CEO of EA, adding that the new leaders will work with their teams in the coming months to fully implement the new changes.

Basically, any IP that isn’t sports-related, such as from developers like Motive, BioWare, EA Originals, and Ridgeline Games comes under EA Entertainment. The internal shakeup comes in the wake of other changes within EA. Earlier this month, the long-running MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic switched to a third-party studio — going from BioWare to Broadsword Online Games, best known for its ongoing work on Ultima Online and Dark Age of Camelot. The report suggested that more than half of BioWare employees were expected to move over to Broadsword, with the remainder being allotted to other positions within the company or potentially being laid off.

“Our business remains strong, and I could not be more excited about our future as we bring more amazing games and experiences to more people around the world. Thank you for your creativity, passion, and all that you do, as we write the next great chapter of our story together,” Wilson concluded in the letter. EA has had a solid year so far, kicking off things with an impressively gory re-imagining of Dead Space, followed by Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, which while suffering from performance issues, proved to be a widely beloved sequel. It also plans to release a magic-based FPS called Immortals of Aveum, which got delayed until August 22 for further optimisation. Another major event was in April, where the company unveiled the logo for its rebranded FIFA game, EA Sports FC, following its split from the footballing federation.

Adani US indictment: SEC issues summons to Adani Group, nephew Sagar in bribery case

NEW DELHI: Days after filing a lawsuit in a New York court, the Securities & Exchange Commission has issued summons to Adani Group founder and chairman Gautam Adani and his nephew Sagar Adani, executive director of Adani Green, in a bribery case.
“Within 21 days after service of this summons on you…you must serve on the plaintiff (SEC) an answer to the attached complaint or a motion under Rule 12 of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure,” said a notice issued on Nov 21. “If you fail to respond, judgment by default will be entered against you for the relief demanded in the complaint. SEC issues summons to Adani, nephew Sagar in bribery case

The summons kick off the legal action against the Adanis, who are accused of paying $265 million (Rs 2,200 crore) in bribes to officials in Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Tamil Nadu and J&K to secure power purchase contracts with state-owned Solar Energy Corporation of India from whom the conglomerate had bagged contracts to generate solar power and manufacture cells and modules.
Adani Group has called the charges baseless.
Separately, the US department of justice has indicted Gautam and Sagar Adani, former executives of Canadian pension fund CDPQ and Azure Power. They are also accused of violating the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA).

The Game Awards 2023 Winners: Baldur’s Gate III Crowned Game of the Year, Alan Wake 2 Bags Four Trophies, More

Baldur’s Gate III took home the top honour at The Game Awards 2023, held early Friday in Los Angeles, besting its lead competitor Alan Wake II. The Dungeons & Dragons-based sprawling RPG, which was strongly revered by both fans and critics alike, bagged six trophies, including Best Community Support and Best Performance. The latter was collected by Neil Newbon, who played Astarion, the silver-haired vampire spawn, holding our attention with his melodramatic persona and the occasional high-pitched screeches. Meanwhile, Remedy’s Alan Wake 2 won four awards across some of the most important categories, with co-directors Sam Lake and Kyle Rowley emerging as the best game directors of the year, alongside a writing/ narrative nod.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, which orchestrated most of the gaming craze in early 2023, only won one award — for Best Action/ Adventure Game. Cyberpunk 2077, which saw a resurgence lately, with update 2.0 and its Phantom Liberty expansion, was crowned the Best Ongoing Game, for its commitment to fixing and essentially breathing new life into a title that drastically failed at launch. The indie game slot was a subject of controversy for its inclusion of the Nexon-owned Dave the Diver, though there’s no more room for outrage since another cutesy pixelated game Sea of Stars emerged victorious. The cast of the upcoming Fallout series also made an appearance on stage to present the award for Best Adaptation, which HBO’s The Last of Us series won — no surprise there.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Review

In addition to The Game Awards jury-voted winners, there was a Players’ Voice bracket, which as the name suggests, is completely governed by fan voting. Baldur’s Gate 3 was also a victor in that, beating out Genshin Impact, whose fanbase was called out last year for botting to skew the results in their favour.

iPhone SE 4 Camera Production to Begin Soon Ahead of Anticipated Debut in March 2025: Report

iPhone SE 4 Camera Production to Begin Soon Ahead of Anticipated Debut in March 2025: Report

Apple is reportedly working on the iPhone SE 4, which is expected to arrive in early 2025 as its fourth generation ‘SE’ smartphone. While the company is yet to announce plans to unveil a new handset, a publication claims that one of Apple’s suppliers is set to begin mass production of the camera components for the purported successor to the iPhone SE (2022). The company is expected to launch a new iPhone SE model with an A18 chip, an OLED display, a 48-megapixel rear camera, and Apple Intelligence.

iPhone SE 4 Launch Timeline (Expected)

An AJU News report (in Korean) states that electronic components manufacturer LG Innotek is scheduled to begin the mass production for camera components that will be used for the iPhone SE 4 in the coming weeks. Production of these components will reportedly take place in December, which is only a couple of weeks away.

The publication also states that the supplier provides Apple with the camera modules “3 months before the launch of new smartphones”. This suggests that the iPhone SE 4 could be unveiled by Apple as early as March 2025. Readers might recall that the third-generation iPhone SE was launched on March 9, 2022.

Recently leaked information about the rumoured iPhone SE 4 indicates that Apple’s next smartphone will feature a 6.06-inch (1,170×2,532 pixels) LTPS OLED screen with a peak brightness of 800nits, and display notch for the TrueDepth camera and Face ID sensors. It is expected to run on Apple’s new A18 chip with 8GB of RAM.

The handset is expected to offer support for Apple Intelligence, and might feature Apple’s  It could be equipped with the same 48-megapixel camera found on the iPhone 15. The iPhone SE 4 is also said to pack a 3,279mAh battery with 20W USB-PD charging and 15W MagSafe and Qi2 wireless charging.

Microsoft and Google Rivalry Could Supercharge Development of AI

Microsoft and Google Rivalry Could Supercharge Development of AI

Microsoft and Google have recently made big investments in two of the most valuable companies in artificial intelligence (AI). OpenAI, which developed ChatGPT, has received a staggering investment of $10 billion (roughly Rs. 81,807 crore) from Microsoft, while Google has invested $300 million (roughly Rs. 2,460 crore) in Anthropic.

The companies’ financial support for AI has pushed an ongoing rivalry in to the public spotlight. Google’s struggle for dominance with Microsoft is increasingly at the forefront of discussions about AI’s future success.

Google has made enormous contributions to the field of AI development, including the invention of transformers – a particular form of machine learning, where an algorithm improves at tasks as it is “trained” on data – the advancement of techniques for automating the translation of languages and the acquisition of AI company DeepMind.

Although Google has consistently positioned itself at the forefront of AI development, a significant milestone was reached with the introduction of ChatGPT. California-based company OpenAI released ChatGPT in November 2022 and a more advanced version, GPT-4, was unveiled in February 2023.

The arrival of ChatGPT sparked widespread discussion about artificial general intelligence (AGI) – where machines surpass human intellect.

This was also the focus of warnings by Geoffrey Hinton, an influential figure in AI, who gave several interviews outlining his concerns about the technology after resigning from Google earlier this year.

Consequently, the number of research papers focusing on large language models (LLMs) – the type of AI technology ChatGPT is based on – surged. Other AI research areas, such as dialogue systems and information retrieval, stand to lose out.

Amid this rapid technological disruption, it seems that Google fears losing its technological edge and market dominance.

Contradictory position?
This concern is not unwarranted. ChatGPT, made by a direct competitor, has made use of Google’s pioneering internet search techniques to generate significant profit. Furthermore, the flow of talent from Google to OpenAI – along with the latter’s rapid growth – has become a worrying trend for the search giant.

When OpenAI was founded, one of its principles was making software that was “open source”, where software is publicly available, allowing developers to share and modify it. Google, meanwhile, has maintained a relatively consistent commercial approach regarding its plans and ambitions.

However, OpenAI’s recent shift towards commercialism and closed-source practices seems to contradict its original corporate philosophy.

Some industry insiders have criticised OpenAI for its somewhat contradictory posture.

While it presents itself as a champion of open-source AI, it is undeniably a commercial entity, a fact it does not readily admit.

This tension between OpenAI’s public image and business realities has made the rivalry with Google even more intriguing.

One likely outcome of this competition is the continued evolution and refinement of AI technology, spurred by the need to stay ahead in the market.

Google’s techniques, once exploited by OpenAI for commercial gain, will probably undergo further innovation.

This evolution will not only enhance the functionality of AI applications, but also greatly improve user experiences.

Yusuf Mehdi, corporate vice president at Microsoft, recently indicated that the company didn’t feel it necessary to overhaul the search landscape, as even a single point increase in market share represented a USD 2 billion hike in value.

This strategic downsizing of their ambitions could be an attempt to lessen competitive pressures in the tech industry.

Stronger scrutiny

It’s worth noting that Microsoft’s association with OpenAI adds another layer to this complex rivalry. Google has also shown a willingness to invest in external AI projects to extend its influence.

For instance, the company’s investment in Anthropic, an AI research company, reflects Google’s strategy to maintain its technological lead through strategic partnerships.

One concern that resonates with many people, including me, is the potential for misinformation, disinformation and distortion created by ChatGPT. With over 200 million users, it serves around 2.53 per cent of the global population.

Widespread disinformation on social media has significantly eroded trust in online content and reportedly influenced the 2016 US presidential election.

With such a vast user base for ChatGPT, it is conceivable that tech companies could manipulate conversations, subtly swaying users’ preferences and decisions in numerous ways.

Therefore, the need for stronger scrutiny and regulation of these large language models is becoming increasingly urgent.

Despite the growing competition over AI, Google remains a respected entity in the global tech industry.

The AI rivalry between Google and Microsoft has driven both companies to push the boundaries of this technology, promising exciting advancements in the years to come.

The various strategies employed in this competition, from talent acquisition to strategic investments, reflect the significance of the stakes in the AI landscape. Specifically, acquiring top talent allows these companies to advance their AI capabilities, giving them a competitive edge.

Strategic investments, on the other hand, allow for diversification and expansion into new AI applications and sectors, increasing their influence and market share in the AI field.

These actions underscore the high value and potential of AI technology in shaping our future.

Oppo Official Reveals Reason Behind New Capture Button on the Find X8 Series

Oppo Official Reveals Reason Behind New Capture Button on the Find X8 Series

Oppo Find X8 series is scheduled to make its debut in China on October 24. The purported smartphone lineup is expected to feature a dedicated capture button for the camera, enabling quick access. Ahead of its anticipated launch, a company official has highlighted the reasons behind the inclusion of this new button on the Find X8 series and why it is different from the Camera Control button found on Apple’s latest iPhone 16 series.

Capture Button on Oppo Find X8 Series

In a post on the Chinese social media platform Weibo, Oppo Find series Product Manager Zhou Yibao detailed the addition of a dedicated capture button for the camera on the purported Find X8 series. One of the reasons behind its inclusion is due to “pain points” discovered in personal experiences. It is meant to serve as a new, snappy way to capture photos without using the handset’s touchscreen.

The executive also highlighted how they faced trouble when operating the camera in freezing temperatures while wearing gloves. Another instance included a rafting adventure in Guangzhou, where the constantly moving raft, coupled with water splashes, made it difficult to access the controls on the screen. Other examples include wanting to take photos of moments with children and pets or while horseriding, all of which were missed due to the inability to quickly take out the smartphone and capture photos.

However, the Oppo official noted that the Find X8’s capture button is different from the new Camera Control button on the iPhone 16 series. Whereas Apple’s latest smartphones sport a new capacitive button that can be used to accomplish multiple tasks, including tweaking camera settings, the button on the Find X8 series is meant for only one thing — taking pictures.

It was designed with keeping three principles in mind: ease of use, simplicity and appearance. The official highlighted their discussions with Oppo’s research and development team and came to a conclusion that it should be easy to use regardless of the orientation, should be as “simple as a volume button”, and should be in line with the overall appearance of the smartphone.

Oppo Find X8 Specifications (Expected)

Oppo Find X8 may be equipped with a 6.5-inch BOE display with a 1.5K resolution and thin bezels, as per previous leaks. For optics, it is speculated to feature a triple rear camera setup headlined by a 50-megapixel Sony LYT-600 sensor. The purported handset is already confirmed to be powered by MediaTek Dimensity 9400 chipset, which may be paired with up to 16GB of LPDDR5T RAM and up to 1TB of UFS 4.0 storage.

Oppo Find X8 is expected to be backed by a 5,700mAh battery with support for 80W SuperVOOC charging via USB Type-C.

Apple to Launch MacBook Air With M3 Chip, iPad Pro Models With OLED Screens in Q1 2024: Report

Apple to Launch MacBook Air With M3 Chip, iPad Pro Models With OLED Screens in Q1 2024: Report

Apple is reportedly working on new MacBook models powered by the company’s latest M3 processor, and iPad Pro models equipped with OLED displays, according to a Bloomberg report citing people aware of the company’s plans. The iPhone maker is also reportedly planning to launch an iPad Air in two display sizes. Unlike previous years, Apple is yet to unveil a new iPad model this year, and the company’s next tablets are expected to arrive in the first quarter of 2024.

Bloomberg reports that Apple is planning to launch a new iPad Air model that will succeed the 10.9-inch iPad Air (2022). While its predecessor was available in two models — Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi + Cellular — Apple is reportedly preparing four new models, as the next iPad Air will be available in 10.9-inch and 12.9-inch display sizes.

Meanwhile, the company’s next generation iPad Pro models will also be launched by the company, as per the report. These will be the first models by the company to sport OLED screens that offer better contrast and black levels compared to mini-LED screens. Apple will also equip the iPad Pro models with its newest M3 chip that was launched in October when it unveiled its latest Mac models.

The upcoming iPad Pro models won’t be the only devices from Apple to debut with the new M3 chip — the company is reportedly preparing to launch a new MacBook Air model that will feature the same chip. Apple launched new MacBook Pro models with its latest Apple Silicon processor under the hood in October, and the successor to the MacBook Air M2, which will be priced lower than the Pro models, will soon be equipped with the M3 chip.

Customers can expect both the new iPad and MacBook models to be launched around March 2024, according to the report, which states that Apple is also planning on launching two new Magic Keyboard variants for the upcoming iPad Pro models and a third-generation Apple Pencil.

While Bloomberg has a good track record in terms of predicting launch timelines of Apple’s upcoming products, the company is yet to make an announcement related to new iPad and MacBook models. We can expect to learn more about the company’s purported products closer to the launch date.
