Google Chrome for Android is testing a new feature that might add a layer of security when it comes to password autofill outside trusted locations, as per a report. The feature is dubbed Identity Check which Google announced last week and is said to necessitate biometric authentication before auto-filling passwords via the Google Password Manager. Additionally, it is also speculated to be enforced for opening apps that would normally require a PIN or passcode.

Identity Check on Google Chrome

Android Authority, collaborating with tipster Mishaal Rahman, revealed the details on Google’s in-development Identity Check feature in a report. When enabled, it is said to require biometric authentication for accessing apps outside trusted locations. This also applies to apps which already utilise a passcode or a PIN. The same functionality will reportedly also be applied to the Google Password Manager.

A screenshot shared by the tipster suggests users will need to verify their biometrics via a fingerprint sensor to access the passwords saved on their Google account. Code strings referencing the feature were reportedly discovered on a version of Chrome for Android.

However, the report suggests that this feature will only work on Android devices running Android 15’s December release, which is Android 15 QPR1, or later. It is speculated to arrive as a server-side update to the Google Play Settings app. The software update is reported to be publicly available for Android phones in December.

Other Google Chrome Features

Google Chrome recently introduced improved passkey support that makes signing in across devices easier. Following the update, users can add the Google Password Manager PIN on multiple operating systems (OS) such as Windows, Linux, macOS, and Android, allowing them to sync their stored passkeys.

Although it will still require users to set up a screen lock, they will now be able to enter a PIN or use a combination of passcode and pattern to sign in on different devices.

Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut, the open-world action-adventure game from Sucker Punch, is coming to PC, continuing the trend of first-party PlayStation titles releasing on Windows. The game will launch with the expected suite of PC features on May 16. The port, predictably, is helmed by veterans Nixxes Software, the Sony-owned studio that has previously worked on PC ports for first-party PlayStation titles like Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart.

Nixxes made the announcement on the PlayStation Blog Wednesday, adding the studio had been working on the port for the past year. The Director’s Cut version of the game will include the full game, the Iki Island expansion, and the cooperative online multiplayer Legends mode.

The PC version of Ghost of Tsushima will get platform-specific features like unlocked frame rates, a full range of graphical settings and presets, and customisable mouse and keyboard controls. Nixxes also confirmed ultrawide monitor support, with the game fully optimized for 21:9 and 32:9 resolutions, and an overkill 48:9 resolution for triple monitor setups.

Additionally, Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut will be aided by performance boosting technologies like Nvidia DLSS 3, AMD FSR 3, and Intel XeSS with AI upscaling and frame generation options. Those with high-end hardware can also opt to use Nvidia DLAA or FSR 3 Native AA to improve image quality even further.

The PC port of the game promises extensive controller support, as well, but a PlayStation DualSense controller will bring more immersion with haptic feedback and adaptive trigger features.

Ghost of Tsushima was released in 2020 as a PlayStation exclusive on the PS4. A Director’s Cut version of the game, which includes the Iki island story expansion, came out in 2021 for PS5 and PS4. The game, set during the first Mongol invasion of Japan, puts players in the shoes of Jin Sakai, a samurai on the path of revenge.

Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut is currently up for pre-order on Steam and Epic Games Store, priced at Rs. 3,999. Pre-ordering will unlock in-game items like the New Game+ Horse, Traveler’s Attire, and Broken Armor dyes from Baku’s shop when the game launches on May 16.

Nixxes is also set release the PC port of PlayStation exclusive Horizon Forbidden West, with the Complete Edition of the game set to release on March 21. The studio revealed the detailed list of PC system requirements for the game this week, confirming that the graphically demanding title would need at least 16GB of RAM to be played on PC.

Reliance Industries Limited announced the completion of a merger with the India business of global media house Walt Disney on Thursday. With this, Viacom 18 Media Private Limited, Reliance Industries Limited, and The Walt Disney Company announced the formation of a joint venture. The joint venture was formed after the approval by the National Company Law Tribuna (NCLT) Mumbai, the Competition Commission of India (CCI), and other regulatory authorities. Reliance also announced that the transactional value of the joint venture was evaluated at Rs. 70,352 crores on a post-money basis.

Reliance, Disney Complete Merger

In a press release, Reliance announced the completion of the merger with Disney following approvals from regulatory bodies. This comes after the two entities announced a strategic partnership to form a joint venture in February. Reliance Industries has invested Rs. 11,500 crores into the joint venture and holds 16.34 percent of the stake in the company. Reliance’s step-down unit Viacom 18, which is also a partner in the joint venture, holds a 46.82 percent stake in the venture while Disney holds the rest of the 36.84 percent.

The joint venture will combine Star and Colors channels on the television side, while it will bring together JioCinema and Hotstar on the digital front. The joint venture will be headed by Nita Ambani, who will act as the Chairperson of the entity.

Highlighting the size of the joint venture, the press release claimed that it holds a combined revenue of approximately Rs. 26,000 crores for the fiscal year that ended in March 2024. Further, the joint venture will now operate more than 100 television channels that produce more than 30,000 hours of content annually.

On the digital front, Reliance claimed that JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar have an aggregate subscription base of more than 50 million, however, this does not account for any overlaps where a user subscribes to both platforms. Additionally, the joint venture also holds digital sports rights across cricket, football, and other sporting events.

Mukesh Ambani, the Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries said after the merger, “Our deep creative expertise and relationship with Disney, along with our unmatched understanding of the Indian consumer will ensure unparalleled content choices at affordable prices for Indian viewers.”

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will also be out on the previous-gen PS4 and Xbox One consoles, despite rumours suggesting otherwise. Confusion about a last-gen launch arose when TheGamingRevolution, a COD content creator tweeted out a picture from the Microsoft store, which only showed the Xbox Series S/X logo — unprecedented for the franchise, but makes perfect sense when considering that every major studio is slowly trying to take advantage of the newer consoles’ hardware. However, with the game’s teaser claiming that both PlayStation generations would be getting a release, it felt unfair to the green team. As it turned out, it was just an error on the Microsoft store, which has since been updated to include Xbox One as well.

For now, the website leads to Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0’s store page since that’s where publisher Activision has planned a worldwide reveal, scheduled for August 17. It’s going to be an in-game event, similar to those of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Vanguard, both of which were unveiled inside the original Warzone game. An interesting thing to note here is that on Steam, Modern Warfare 3 was listed as an add-on, unlike previous reports which claimed that it would be a standalone $70 release. “As stated in numerous Activision Blizzard quarterly conference calls, Modern Warfare III is a premium release. It will be priced accordingly at $70 USD,” the publisher told reliable tipster CharlieINTEL in a prepared statement. The term ‘add-on’ had to do with how all CoD games would be packaged going forward — they’d all be accessible within the Call of Duty HQ launcher.

This also aligns with an InsiderGaming report, which claimed that beta codes for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 followed the same ‘concept ID’ as Modern Warfare 2’s — essentially, ‘last year’s game codes, just reissued.’ The central hub will display Call of Duty MW2, MW3, and Warzone on the same menu, making it more accessible to players and enabling content carry-over. It was confirmed that this year’s title would ‘Carry Forward’ weapons and cosmetic items such as operators and skins you unlocked in Modern Warfare 2. Players can also expect MW 3 content to be integrated into the battle-royale Warzone experience, while Call of Duty: Mobile has been updated to include shared progression across the mainline games. Further details on the latter will be revealed as we inch closer to Warzone Mobile’s launch.

Previous reports also mentioned that Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 would get at least two beta weekends for multiplayer testing, with the first slot solely aimed at PlayStation — set to run from October 6–10. This may or may not change as Microsoft’s attempts to acquire Activision for $69 billion (about Rs. 5,72,571 crore) continue. The second beta weekend will allegedly run from October 12–16 and grants entry to Xbox and PC players as well, and there are seemingly plans for campaign early access for pre-order customers.

Snapdragon Summit 2024 — the chipmaker’s annual event to unveil its flagship smartphone processor — began on Monday with the launch of the Snapdragon 8 Elite. This high-end smartphone chipset is confirmed to arrive on smartphones from several brands, including Asus, iQOO, Honor, OnePlus, Oppo, Realme, Vivo, and Xiaomi. South Korean tech conglomerate Samsung has also revealed that its upcoming handsets will be equipped with the successor to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, which was unveiled by Qualcomm last year.

Samsung Confirms Upcoming Galaxy Smartphones Will Feature Snapdragon 8 Elite Chip

At the ongoing Snapdragon Summit in Hawaii, Samsung Mobile President TM Roh stated that upcoming Galaxy handsets would be equipped with Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 8 Elite chip. Given that Samsung’s Galaxy S series and Z series models are the company’s most high-end smartphones, we can assume that the Galaxy S25 series will be the first phones from Samsung to arrive with the new processor.

“Qualcomm will help us move further with Qualcomm’s experience in intelligent computing, and commitment to advancing mobile AI, will be a big part of future Galaxy AI experiences,” Roh said at the event.

He did not reveal which smartphones will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, so it is unclear whether all the successors to the Galaxy S24 series will feature the newly unveiled processor. 

While Samsung equipped all three models in the Galaxy S23 series with a custom Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy chip, only the Ultra model in the Galaxy S24 series features a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset while the standard and Plus models had an Exynos 2400 processor in most markets.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite chip could also power the successors to the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Galaxy Z Fold 6 smartphones, but these models aren’t expected to arrive until the second half of 2025. On the other hand, the Galaxy S25 series of smartphones is expected to arrive in early 2025, along with Samsung’s Android 15-based One UI 7 software update.
