Xiaomi 15 was unveiled in China on Tuesday (October 29) alongside the Xiaomi 15 Pro. The new lineup comes as a successor to last year’s Xiaomi 14 duo and runs on the latest Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC. The vanilla Xiaomi 15 features a 6.36-inch 1.5K OLED display with a peak brightness of 3,200nits, while the Pro model has a 2K resolution display. The Xiaomi 15 series runs on HyperOS 2 and features a Leica-tuned triple rear camera setup led by a 50-megapixel primary sensor. Like their predecessors, the Xiaomi 15 and Xiaomi 15 Pro have an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance.

Xiaomi 15 Series Price

The standard Xiaomi 15 is priced at CNY 4,499 (roughly Rs. 52,000) for the 12GB RAM + 256GB storage variant. It costs CNY 4,799 (roughly Rs. 56,000) for the 12GB + 512GB variant, and CNY 4,999 (roughly Rs. 58,000) for the 16GB + 512GB model. The top-end version with 16GB + 1TB is priced at CNY 5,499 (roughly Rs. 65,000). It is offered in Asakusa Green, Bright Silver Edition, Black, Lilac, and White shades. 

Meanwhile, a Xiaomi 15 limited edition model is priced at CNY 5,999 for the 16GB + 1TB model. 

On the other hand, the Xiaomi 15 Pro price starts at CNY 5,299 (roughly Rs. 62,500) for the 12GB 256GB RAM and storage model. The price goes up to CNY 5,799 (roughly Rs. 68,000) for the 16GB + 512GB trim. The 16GB + 1TB configuration is priced at CNY 6,499 (roughly Rs. 75,000). It is available in Bright Silver Edition, Rock Ash, Spruce Green, and White colourways. 

Xiaomi 15 Specifications

The dual SIM (Nano) Xiaomi 15 runs on the company’s new HyperOS 2 interface based on Android 15. It features a 6.36-inch 8T LTPO display with a 1.5K resolution (1,200×2,670 pixels) with up to 120Hz refresh rate, 300Hz touch sampling rate, and 3,200nit peak brightness. 

The new Xiaomi phone is the first to feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC. It carries up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 1TB of UFS 4.0 onboard storage.

For optics, the Xiaomi 15 has a Leica-branded triple rear camera unit with a Summilux lens. The camera arrangement includes a 50-megapixel Light Fusion 900 sensor with optical image stabilisation (OIS) with f/1.62 aperture, a 50-megapixel telephoto camera, and a 50-megapixel ultra-wide angle shooter. For selfies and video chats, it has a 32-megapixel front camera.

The Xiaomi 15 has an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor and supports a face unlock feature. It is IP68-rated for dust and water resistance. Connectivity options on the phone include 5G, Wi-Fi 7, USB 3.2 port, Bluetooth 5.4, GPS, Galileo, GLONASS, Beidou, and a USB Type-C port. Sensors on board include an accelerometer, ambient light sensor, e-compass, proximity sensor, linear motor, IR blaster, flicker sensor, and colour sensor. 

The Xiaomi 15 houses a 5,400mAh battery with support for 90W wired fast charging and 50W wireless charging. It measures 152.3×71.2×8.08mm and weighs 191 grams.

The Xiaomi 15 Pro has the same SIM, software, water resistance rating, selfie camera and chipset as the vanilla model. The Pro model gets a 6.73-inch 2K OLED display with 120Hz refresh rate and up to 3,200 nits peak brightness. It has a triple rear camera unit, comprising a 50-megapixel Light Hunter 900 main camera, a 50-megapixel telephoto camera, and a 50-megapixel ultra wide-angle camera.

Sensors and connectivity options on the Xiaomi 15 Pro are similar to the Xiaomi 15 model. It packs a 6,100mAh battery with 90W wired fast charging and 50W wireless charging support. The phone measures 161.3×75.3×8.35mm and weighs around 213 grams. 

Apple could launch a new MacBook model with a foldable display in the coming years, according to details shared by TF Securities International analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. In a blog post published on Thursday, Kuo claims that Apple is considering two screen sizes for the upcoming foldable MacBook and has picked exclusive suppliers for the display and hinge components. The device will also have a high bill of materials (BOM) and a high retail price when it is launched, according to the analyst.

Apple Reportedly Working on Foldable MacBook

The panel for the foldable MacBook will be exclusively supplied by LG Display, according to Kuo, and the analyst says that Apple is considering the use of an 18.8-inch or 20.25-inch display — resulting in 13-inch and 14-inch laptop sizes when folded. Meanwhile, the hinge for the folding laptop will reportedly be supplied by Amphenol.

Hours after Kuo predicted these display sizes, Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) CEO and Co-Founder Ross Young also said that Apple is working on a MacBook with a foldable screen. In a subscriber-only post (via MacRumors) on X (formerly Twitter), Young says that the cost of producing the device has resulted in Apple working on an 18.76-inch screen instead of a larger 20.25-inch display.

Foldable MacBook to Have High Bill of Materials

Apple has relied on high design specifications for the panel and hinge on the upcoming foldable MacBook model in an attempt to make the display “as crease-free as possible”, according to Kuo, who adds that the costs of producing the panel and the hinge are currently as high as $650 (roughly Rs. 54,100) and $250 (roughly Rs. 20,800), respectively.

As a result, Kuo says the BOM cost of the first-generation foldable MacBook could be close to the BOM cost of the Apple Vision Pro that was launched by the company in February. However, it remains to be seen whether the pricing for the MacBook will be as high as Apple’s headset that costs $3,499 (roughly Rs. 2.91 lakh). Kuo says that the foldable laptop is expected to ship more than 1 million units aa year after it is launched.

Apple’s Foldable MacBook Launch Timeline (Expected)

According to the analyst, the first foldable MacBook will be launched by Apple in the first half of 2026. The device is expected to be equipped with Apple’s M5 chip, and production for the display is said to begin in the fourth quarter of 2025. More details of the device, including its specifications and software features, are expected to surface online in the coming months.

Redmi K80 series, which comprises two models — Redmi K80 and Redmi K80 Pro —is rumoured to launch in China soon. Ahead of its anticipated debut, a new listing on a benchmarking platform suggests that the purported Pro model could be powered by Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon processor. In a separate development, full specifications of both handsets have also been leaked, revealing that the base model in the Redmi K80 series will also be powered by a powerful chipset, as per claims on social media.

Redmi K80 Pro Geekbench Listing

Redmi K80 Pro was earlier reportedly spotted on China’s 3C certification platform with three model numbers: 24122RKC7C, 24127RK2CC, and 24127RK2CC. One of the purported variants has now surfaced on Geekbench. It is said to have the model number 24122RKC7C and could be powered by an octa-core chipset with an ARMv8 architecture, six performance cores clocked at 3.53GHz, and two prime cores operating at 4.32GHz.

While the chipset’s name isn’t stated, the listed clock speeds suggest it is likely to be the Snapdragon 8 Elite that was launched at the Snapdragon Summit in Hawaii last month. The SoC may be paired with approximately 14.76GB of RAM and the motherboard is dubbed “sun”.

In the Geekbench 6.3.0 for Android AArch64 cross-platform benchmark, the purported Redmi K80 Pro had 2,753 and 8,460 single and multi-core scores, respectively.

Specifications of Redmi K80 series were also leaked on the Chinese social media platform Weibo (via Gizmochina) by tipster Experience More (translated from Chinese). As per the tipster, the base Redmi K80 may be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor. It could sport a 2K Huaxing LTPS display and a flat screen. For optics, the handset is speculated to have a triple rear camera system, comprising a 50-megapixel Omnivision OV50 main sensor, an 8-megapixel ultrawide sensor, and a 2-megapixel macro lens. On the front, the Redmi K80 is tipped to get a 20-megapixel Omnivision OV20B camera. The handset may be backed by a 6,500mAh battery with support for 90W fast charging.

On the other hand, the Redmi K80 Pro is claimed to have a 2K OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. The handset could have the same primary camera as the base model, but it will be joined by a 32MP ultra-wide angle ISOCELL KD1 lens, and a 50MP ISOCELL JN5 telephoto camera with 2.6x optical zoom. It may be backed by a 6,000mAh battery with support for 120W (wired) and 50W (wireless) fast charging.

Both the purported smartphones are tipped to get IP68 rating against dust and water ingress.

Sony is gearing up to launch the PS5’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III bundle in India. The cross-gen package will be available from November 10 onwards, but unlike in the US, the publisher isn’t selling the new slim version of the console here yet. Players will receive the standard 4K Blu-ray drive-equipped PS5, alongside a voucher code for Activision’s upcoming marquee shooter, at Rs. 49,390. This is part of an ‘introductory offer’ running until November 23, during which the bundle’s price has been slashed by Rs. 10,000 — after which, it will cost Rs. 59,390, which is the base price for any PS5 game bundle.

PlayStation has been ramping up marketing in India recently by offering numerous discounts on the PS5 and bundling it up with on-demand games like God of War Ragnarök, Spider-Man 2, EA Sports FC 24, and even Cricket 24 (to coincide with the ICC World Cup). It’s interesting to note, however, that the Modern Warfare 3 bundle available in the US is reportedly including the game worth $70 (about Rs. 5,830) for free with the PS5 Slim variant at a gross total of $499.99 (about Rs. 41,640). Meanwhile, players in India get treated to the same old version of PS5, where technically speaking, the game isn’t included for free in the bundle.

You see, a PS5 disc variant costs Rs. 54,990 in India, while the upcoming Call of Duty game is priced at Rs. 5,599 on the PlayStation store — totalling Rs. 60,589. Sure, the limited-time sale makes it way cheaper — at Rs. 49,390 — but once it’s over, you’re paying the full price. As usual, it will be available to buy from the usual Indian retailers like Amazon, Chroma, Flipkart, GamestheShop, Reliance Digital, ShopatSC, and Vijay Sales.

For now, it’s unclear when the slimmer version of the PS5 will arrive in India and if so, whether it will be priced similar to the current version. Sony previously suggested that once it manages to sell off the older models, only the new slim ones will be made available to purchase. It’s simply 30 percent smaller than the original version and comes with a detachable disc drive, which requires an internet connection to register/ bind it to the console. Hardware is all around the same, but the internal storage has been upgraded from an 825GB to a 1TB SSD. A digital PS5 slim variant is also available at $449.99 (about Rs. 37,400), albeit it’s more of a marketing gimmick since one can buy the Blu-ray drive separately and install it themselves.

Elsewhere, Sony has delayed half the total live service games it had planned to launch by March 2026 — down from 12 to six titles. During an earnings call, Sony PlayStation COO Hiroki Totoki said (via VGC), “We are reviewing this… we are trying as much as possible to ensure [that these games] are enjoyed and liked by gamers for a long time. [Out of] the 12 titles, six titles will be released by FY25 — that’s our current plan.” He further added that the remaining six will be evaluated further to see their potential — possibly another meeting with Destiny 2 maker Bungie to review the live service portfolio. It’s also worth mentioning that The Last of Us multiplayer game, which was allegedly put ‘on ice,’ is still in active development — as confirmed by its director Vinit Agarwal.

The premium smartphone segment sure is a cut-throat one. This is not because manufacturers offer impressive hardware at this price point but because we often see smartphones from the next tier receive price cuts and tip the scales for devices launched in the sub-Rs. 50,000 segment. The Vivo V40 Pro becomes a victim for two reasons. Firstly, it’s priced a bit too high from the get-go. Secondly, it also has to compete with some top-tier premium smartphones like the iQoo 12, which was launched at Rs. 57,999 a year ago but currently retails at Rs. 49,999. Vivo’s V40 Pro is priced at Rs. 49,999 for its base 8GB + 256GB variant, while the 12GB + 512GB variant is priced even higher at Rs. 55,999. After using it for a while, I discovered that its price tag is not its only problem.

Vivo’s V40 Pro sure looks the part for a premium smartphone. The phone has a typically rounded design with curved-edge glass screens for front and rear panels. Its polycarbonate frame is flattened at the top and bottom with curved sides and rounded corners, making it very comfortable to hold. We received the Ganges Blue finish with a nice bluish colour complimented by a gorgeous texture that looks like a gradient terrain map when viewed at an angle, but altogether is supposed to be inspired by the Ganges River.

The phone is quite slim given that it has a high-capacity battery, but that keyhole-shaped camera module stands out. You may like or hate it, but it is raised, has flat sides, and looks out of place like an afterthought. The camera module also packs in the Aura light, a V series standard for the past few years.

Vivo V40 Pro Display: Premium stuff

Vivo goes with a curved edge display for its V40 Pro like with previous models. While it’s quite the opposite of the current trend (flat displays), it makes the phone feel premium and gives it a slimmer appearance. Its skinny bezels add to its premium looks, which means that Vivo manages to fit more display into a smaller footprint.

The display gets bright outdoors and offers HDR10+ support, meaning you can enjoy supported content on OTT apps. It is not an LTPO display, but Vivo’s Smart Switch technology can switch the refresh rate between 60Hz, 90Hz and 120Hz to save battery life. Screen colours appear quite accurate in the Standard colour mode so there’s no need to fidget or adjust anything here, even though the software does provide plenty of customisation. The display has an embedded fingerprint reader, which worked flawlessly during the review period.

Vivo V40 Pro Software: Typically, Vivo

We are expecting some bigger changes with Android 15, but Vivo’s V40 Pro currently only runs the Android 14 version of Funtouch OS. The software is typically Vivo, which means it runs smoothly without hiccups. It is also loaded to the brim with third-party apps (Snapchat, Amazon, LinkedIn, Netflix, PhonePe, Facebook and Myntra) out of the box. This is followed by spammy notifications from native bloatware like the Internet browser app, which will show you notifications even if you have never launched the app. There are also two file manager apps, two gallery apps, two browsers and even two app stores, which can confuse casual users.

In terms of features, Vivo’s Funtouch OS is mainly about customisation. We are awaiting a few AI features to show up with an upcoming Android 15-based update, but there’s no defined date or timeline for when it will arrive.

Vivo V40 Pro Performance: Promising

• Processor – MediaTek Dimensity 9200+

• Storage – 256/512GB

One of the few phones at this price point to pack in the MediaTek Dimensity 9200+, the Vivo V40 Pro turned out to be a solid performer in our benchmark tests, as you can see from the comparison below. It’s still not as powerful as the iQoo 12, powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC, but surprisingly, it goes neck and neck with the Realme GT 6, which has a Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 SoC.

Gaming, thanks to its good CPU and GPU performance, is impressive. Heating is not an issue when playing heavy 3D games, but only when using the camera app. However, performance does not take a hit thanks to the vapour chamber cooling system.

After years of waiting, we finally have stereo speakers! They are balanced and sound sufficiently loud, making the audio experience quite immersive while playing games and watching videos.

Vivo V40 Pro Cameras: Does the job

• Selfie camera – 50-megapixel, f/2.0, AF

With four high-resolution cameras onboard, I was expecting excellent performance across the board, given that this smartphone is priced a rupee below the 50,000 mark. But, after trying all of them out, I was a bit disappointed as only the primary camera managed to produce the expected results.

To make things worse, the telephoto camera only activates when a subject/object is at least 5 feet away, you can tell that it’s active when you notice slightly muted colours and the obvious bump up in sharpness. Anything captured with the 2X mode selected within 5 feet will result in scaled-down photos obtained by the primary camera, and these don’t look good with smeared resolved details that look bad even in daylight. In short, you will have to keep a good distance between yourself at the subject to ensure that you activate the telephoto camera to get the best quality.

The ultra-wide camera produces decent photos in daylight, but photos lack any resolved detail and tend to have abnormally boosted greens and blue hues. When shooting in low or dim lighting, quality drops even further, and the photos are not usable.

The primary camera produces vibrant photos with good details in the shadows, but the HDR system works overtime and produces exaggerated skies that will not appear the same as what’s really in front of you. No matter which colour setting (Vivid, Textured, ZEISS Natural) you choose, the camera loves to bump up the reds and greens. While the details are quite good in daylight, I noticed a drop in quality when shooting low-light photos. The OIS system somehow could not keep things steady (or sharp), with details appearing a bit smeared and soft.

The telephoto camera (once you learn to trick the camera into using it) produces sharp results, provided there’s enough light. Results from the portrait mode are quite good under artificial lighting as well, but it all falls apart under street lighting or dimly lit settings, as the telephoto shooter lacks OIS. The results don’t look great when you zoom in low light with smeared textures with some blown out highlights in the areas under bright light.

In terms of video, 4K 60fps video delivers the best quality, as the 4K 30fps footage we captured has some problems with dynamic range and noise, which means the details were far from impressive. The same results are also reproduced when using shooting in 1080p at 30fps. Results in low light come out quite noisy when shooting at 30fps and appear a lot better at 60fps. However, stabilisation is a bit shaky when recording at 60fps, so you will have to keep your hands steady.

Selfies pack in good detail in daylight, but the Portrait mode’s edge-detection does a passable job. Details take a hit in low light, but the camera produces decent images, provided you don’t switch to the Portrait mode, where it loses a lot of resolved detail.

Vivo V40 Pro Battery: Solid

A 500mAh increase compared to the previous model shows that the Vivo V40 Pro delivers impressively good battery life with day-to-day usage. The phone easily lasted over a full day of heavy usage and still had about 30 percent juice left for the next day. In our standard video loop battery test, the phone managed a solid 21 hours and 10 minutes. Charging the V40 Pro was equally quick, with the device managing a 52 percent charge in 30 minutes, a 93 percent charge in an hour, and completing the process in 1 hour and 3 minutes.

Vivo V40 Pro Verdict

Vivo’s V40 Pro does a fine job when it comes to design, performance and battery life but falls short when it comes to camera performance, which is where we expected it to exceed expectations. It offers some much needed upgrades like a stereo speaker and an IP68 rating, but these are features that many would expect as a standard at this price point.

With sub-Rs. 60,000 smartphones commonly making their way into the sub-Rs. 50,000 segment, the beastly iQoo 12 (Review) (from Rs. 49,999) easily beats the Vivo V40 Pro on all fronts. Google’s Pixel 8a (Review) (Rs. 39,999) may not be a gaming machine, but it easily offers the best in segment AI features and very capable still cameras, while both the Xiaomi 14 Civi (Review) and the Realme GT 6 (Review) offer equally good performance at Rs. 10,000 less, making the Vivo V40 Pro hard to recommend.

Asus ROG Ally X is expected to be unveiled within the next couple of weeks and the specifications of the handheld gaming console have been leaked online ahead of its debut. It will arrive as an updated version of the first-generation ROG Ally, instead of a successor, and the details of the handset suggest some highly requested hardware improvements are coming to the ROG Ally X. These include an improved battery and more, higher-bandwidth memory that should boost the device’s performance.

A VideoCardz report states that the Asus ROG Ally X will be equipped with a much larger 80Whr battery that should allow users to play games for longer — the original device arrived with a 40Whr battery and users complained of short battery life on the original console,

Another area that will be improved when the ROG Ally X arrives is in the memory department — the company equipped the ROG Ally with 16GB of RAM, while the ROG Ally will arrive with 24GB of LPDDR5 memory. It will also offer higher memory bandwidth — 7,500MHz, up from 6,400MHz on the current model.

According to the report the ROG Ally X will be equipped with the same AMD Ryzen Z1 Ultimate APU that powers the first-generation ROG Ally. Similarly, the 7-inch full-HD screen with a 120Hz refresh rate will be retained on the upcoming device.

Asus will also replace the fan from the first-generation ROG Ally with one that is 23 percent smaller and features fins that are 50 percent thinner than their predecessor, leading to a 10 percent improvement in airflow on the upcoming ROG Ally X.

Thanks to the larger battery, the dimensions and weight of the ROG Ally X have also increased. As per the report, the device will be 36.9mm, which means it will be 4.5mm thicker than the original model. It will reportedly weigh 678g, which is 70g more than the ROG Ally. We can expect to learn more about the Asus ROG Ally X — such as the rumoured $799 (roughly Rs. 66,400) pricing and availability — at Computex 2024, which kicks off on June 4.
