IPL 2026: KKR’s Rovman Powell hopes for better results despite three losses

In the IPL 2026 match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) suffered a loss by three wickets at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

This was KKR`s third loss out of their four matches so far. One of their matches was abandoned due to rain. Following the recent loss, the Knight Riders have slipped to the ninth position with a net run rate (NRR) of -1.315 and one point.

Speaking after the loss, KKR`s Rovman Powell feels that KKR`s destiny in the tournament is still in the hands of the players. He is also hopeful of yielding better results.

“Our destiny is still in our hands, we still have many games to go. Once we keep putting in the work, which the guys are doing, the results will come. Sometimes it`s not entirely the result because, as you can see tonight, it was a good game of cricket. It`s just a little bit unfortunate that we didn`t come out on the winning side, but I think victory is coming soon once we keep on doing the right stuff,” he told reporters.

The Kingston-born cricketer then admitted that KKR bowlers should have shifted their bowling to a wider line as LSG`s Mukul Choudhary was smashing the short deliveries.

“We could have gone to a wide plan after we realised that he`s (Mukul Choudhary) hitting those short deliveries. We could have gone to a wide plan, maybe a few balls earlier to see how best we could get a few dot balls in,” said Powell.

In the IPL 2026, Lucknow recently registered a thrilling victory over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by three wickets at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Having put to bat first, KKR posted a total of 181 runs for the loss of four wickets in 20 overs. Skipper Ajinkya Rahane delivered an exceptional knock of 41 runs in 24 balls, including four boundaries and two maximums. In the second essay of the game, Impact Player, Ayush Badoni delivered a knock of 54 runs off 34 balls, including seven boundaries and two maximums. Later, Mukul Choudhary garnered an unbeaten 54 runs in 27 balls, including two boundaries and seven maximums.

With this, the visitors chased the target by scoring 182 runs for the loss of seven wickets in 20 overs.

Kolkata`s Vaibhav Arora and Anukul Roy bagged two wickets each. Sunil Narine, Kartik Tyagi, and Green claimed one wicket each.

Due to my illness, Shoaib has been stuck with so many things. I am not able to give Ruhaan time sometimes; on the days I am fatigued, I just sleep. If I am in the hospital, I cannot be with Ruhaan. It does change when you are ill—your routine, your priorities change, and your body needs rest. When we are fighting an illness, we have to be strong and positive. I want to come out of this completely.”

Dipika also admitted that the recurring cyst has shaken her. She added, “The recurrence that happened with the 1.3 cm cyst has shaken me. I am a little scared now that it shouldn’t happen again. I have started dieting, but I feel anxious. One thing I have understood is that we ladies are stronger than we think we are. Our bodies are so complex. The hormonal changes in our body—irrespective of any illness—we go through so much, and yet we smoothly function in our lives.”

The Sasural Simar Ka actress revealed that her health has impacted her consistency with vlogging, but she continues to film whenever she is able to.

About Dipika Kakar’s health

The actress came into the spotlight after she left Celebrity MasterChef Season 1 midway due to health concerns. She later shared her diagnosis from last year, when doctors discovered a tennis-ball-sized cancerous cyst near her liver. She underwent major surgery, during which 22 per cent of her liver was removed along with the cyst.

The Reserve Bank of India’s move to stem rupee’s fall may end up acting as a deterrent for global investors. The central bank’s most aggressive push in nearly a decade to stabilise the rupee could end up deterring the very global investors the market has worked hard to attract.With the currency sliding to fresh lows during the Iran conflict, the Reserve Bank of India directed domestic banks to unwind bearish positions in both onshore and offshore markets. The move, however, came without an immediate clarification, unsettling lenders and investors who were left uncertain about the central bank’s intentions and concerned about its approach to managing risks, according to bankers familiar with the matter quoted in a Bloomberg report.Following these restrictions, the rupee has rebounded more than 2 per cent to 92.66 against the dollar as of Thursday. This recovery, though, has come with side effects. Banks could face losses amounting to hundreds of millions of dollars, as estimated by Jefferies Financial Group Inc. At the same time, hedging has become more expensive, complicating efforts by investors to protect their positions, while foreign investors have cut back their exposure to bonds.The sudden nature of the measures and tighter controls risk creating an impression that India may be stepping back from its efforts to deepen integration with global financial markets. Those reforms, rolled out after the 2013 taper tantrum when the Federal Reserve’s plans to reduce bond purchases led to capital outflows from emerging markets, had strengthened India’s attractiveness and eventually led to its inclusion in JPMorgan Chase & Co.’s bond index in 2024.

RBI’s intervention for rupee

Over the years, the rupee market has also broadened, with the currency gaining traction in major financial centres such as London and Singapore, where it is now traded more actively than within India.The scale of intervention and the absence of clear communication have raised concerns over policy consistency and transparency, said Sanjay Guglani, chief investment officer at Singapore-based Silverdale Capital Pte Ltd., which manages about $1.5 billion. He characterised the RBI’s actions as discretionary, noting that “this raises the bar for rupee assets among offshore investors.”The steps were set in motion in late March, when the RBI imposed a cap on banks’ daily currency positions in the domestic market at $100 million, to be enforced by April 10. This triggered a rush to unwind roughly $30 billion worth of arbitrage trades.As the rupee continued to weaken despite these actions, the central bank soon widened the restrictions to offshore derivatives. It barred lenders from offering non-deliverable forwards, instruments that allow investors to take positions on the currency without actually holding it. Taken together, these measures represent a coordinated effort to eliminate bearish bets on the rupee and curb speculative activity across markets.The focus was on investors using NDFs to build short positions on the rupee, as well as banks engaged in arbitrage strategies that involved buying dollars domestically and selling them offshore to take advantage of pricing differences. Both sets of activities had added to the downward pressure on the currency.Economists at BofA Securities Inc. cautioned that such actions could undo years of liberalisation aimed at preventing a repeat of the 2013 episode. In a note led by Rahul Bajoria, they said the steps “essentially break the link RBI had cultivated in the last decade.”Experiences from other countries highlight the risks. China’s tightening of offshore yuan liquidity between 2015 and 2017 helped steady the currency but led to funding pressures and unsettled global investors. Similarly, Malaysia’s 2016 restrictions on offshore ringgit trading reduced speculative activity but drained liquidity. In both instances, the measures came with reputational consequences, illustrating the delicate balance India needs to maintain.The RBI’s swift action comes against a weakening external environment marked by higher US tariffs and a surge in energy prices following the Iran conflict, a challenging combination for an oil-importing country with a persistent current account deficit. Elevated crude prices have pushed up the import bill, while a global shift toward safe-haven assets has strengthened the dollar. A temporary two-week ceasefire between the US and Iran could provide some respite.RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra said on Wednesday that the central bank continues to focus on developing currency markets and advancing the internationalisation of the rupee, adding that the recent measures should not be seen as a change in policy direction. In his first public comments after the steps were announced, he emphasised that the measures are temporary and will not be permanent.According to a person familiar with the matter, the Finance Ministry has consulted external experts for suggestions to stabilise the rupee. The outreach reflects concerns within the government that foreign institutional investors may remain cautious if depreciation risks persist. The latest steps do not bar foreign investors from hedging through domestic banks, provided such transactions take place in the deliverable market and are not speculative in nature. Nor do they prevent other participants from engaging in offshore NDF trading.Soumya Kanti Ghosh, chief economic adviser at State Bank of India and a member of the prime minister’s economic advisory council, said “such measures are likely to create a wedge between offshore and onshore markets.” He added that this divergence “might create a vicious loop,” where offshore premiums continue to rise.Some analysts believe the central bank’s actions may provide only limited support to an economy dealing with a current account deficit and capital outflows. Elevated oil prices could further strain inflation and widen the deficit, adding to pressure on the rupee. For now, restrictions on the NDF market have reduced liquidity and made hedging more challenging. The growing divergence between offshore and onshore markets is already affecting foreign appetite for Indian bonds and could weigh on future inflows.“Foreign investors need a reliable and predictable investment framework to maintain or increase their portfolio allocations to India,” said Rajeev De Mello, global macro portfolio manager at Gama Asset Management SA.

Cannes 2026 line-up announced

Following the 2025 edition, which had a large Hollywood presence with Tom Cruise`s Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning and Spike Lee`s `Highest 2 Lowest`, the upcoming Cannes will be dominated by international cinema and indie filmmakers, reported Variety.

The only American director to compete this year is Sachs with `The Man I Love` – a musical fantasy featuring Rami Malek. The film follows the AIDS crisis in 80s New York.

Farhadi will debut `Parallel Stories` featuring Isabelle Huppert, Virginie Efira, Pierre Niney, Vincent Cassel, and Adam Bessa.

Among others with the most star power are Cristian Mungiu`s Fjord featuring Renate Reinsve and Sebastian Stan, Pawel Pawlikowski`s Fatherland, Hong-jin Na`s Hope with Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikander and Rodrigo Sorogoyen`s The Beloved headlined by Javier Bardem.

Asia is also well-represented in the Competition with four films, including Japan`s Sheep In The Box. The most anticipated is said to be Korean Auteur Na Hong-jin`s Hope, which marks Na`s first feature since The Wailing a decade ago.

Hope features Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikander.

Two-time Oscar winner Pedro Almodovar will screen his latest Bitter Christmas in Competition. The film has already had a theatrical run in the filmmaker`s native Spain.

Notably, the Cannes team is expected to add more titles to the lineup in the coming weeks.

Leading the announcement on Thursday, Cannes chief Thierry Fremaux shared that 95 per cent of the selection has been revealed, while other films will be decided in the next weeks.

In Dhurandhar, Vivek Sinha played terrorist Zahoor Mistry, one of the five hijackers who hijacked Indian Airlines flight IC-814 in 1999.

In the film, Sinha’s character delivered the line, “Hindu waqai darpok qaum hai (Hindus are truly a cowardly community),” which sparked outrage among sections of the audience. Several viewers seemed unable to separate the actor from his role. Responding to the reactions, Vivek took to Instagram to clarify his identity. In one post, he wrote, “Mera naam Vivek Sinha hai aur main aatankwadi nahi hoon (My name is Vivek Sinha and I am not a terrorist).”

After a middling run at the box office, Vishal Bhardwaj‘s action romance, O’Romeo is finally arriving on streaming. On Friday, Prime Video announced the streaming premiere of the Shahid Kapoor and Triptii Dimri–starrer. The romantic action thriller is inspired by the non-fiction book Mafia Queens of Mumbai by S Hussain Zaidi.

O Romeo gets OTT release

O’Romeo is available to watch on Prime Video starting April 10, eight full weeks after its theatrical release this February. Prime Video shared the announcement on social media on Friday morning. The quiet announcement was a surprise as most big Hindi films’ streaming releases are announced in prior, and not always after they are already on the platform.

The film stars Shahid Kapoor, Triptii Dimri, and Avinash Tiwary in lead roles. The supporting cast includes Nana Patekar, Tamannaah Bhatia, Disha Patani, and Farida Jalal, with Vikrant Massey appearing in a special role. It is produced by Sajid Nadiadwala under the banner of Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment.

The film, which was released in theatres on February 13, incorporates elements of noir storytelling and is based on real accounts of the Mumbai underworld. It combines action sequences with character-driven storytelling, exploring themes of power, loyalty, and the consequences of personal choices. The performances of the lead cast form a central part of the film’s narrative structure, with particular focus on the dynamic between Ustara and Afshan.

Critical response to O Romeo

Critical response to O’Romeo was mixed. In its review, Hindustan Times rated the film 3 out of 5 stars and noted that despite Shahid Kapoor’s “wild energy and a few stylish flourishes,” the film “struggles to find its emotional core.” The review added that while the film remains “watchable, even fun in parts,” it is “rarely affecting” and lacks the emotional depth seen in Vishal Bhardwaj’s stronger works.

Following the release, Vishal Bhardwaj responded to the reception by expressing pride in the film. The result comes as a welcome boost for Indian badminton fans, especially after early exits for Lakshya Sen and HS Prannoy earlier in the tournament.

Prannoy, meanwhile, endured a far more frustrating exit. He went down to China’s Weng Hongyang in straight games, 12-21, 19-21, in a match marred by controversy. The Indian shuttler later criticised the organisers, questioning the absence of the Hawk-Eye system on his court.
