IPL 2026: David Miller’s no-single call with Kuldeep Yadav during DC vs GT defended by Sunil Gavaskar

IPL 2026: David Miller’s no-single call with Kuldeep Yadav during DC vs GT defended by Sunil Gavaskar

The match between Delhi Capitals and Gujarat Titans at Arun Jaitley Stadium on April 8 emerged as one of the season’s most thrilling encounters. David Miller’s decision to refuse a single to Kuldeep and retain strike on the penultimate ball proved pivotal in the outcome.

DC vs GT: Highlights | Scorecard

Miller, returning from injury, played a remarkable innings of 41 runs off 20 balls. After the dismissal of KL Rahul, Delhi faced a steep target, needing 45 runs from the last three overs. Miller responded aggressively, attacking Mohammed Siraj with two boundaries and a six in the 19th over, before clearing the boundary off Prasidh Krishna in the final one.

This reduced the equation to two runs off two balls. Miller struck the ball to deep square leg but chose not to take the run, to remain on strike. The last ball from Prasidh was well executed; Miller missed the run, and Kuldeep failed to make it to the crease in time, resulting in a one-run victory for Gujarat Titans.

After the game, Sunil Gavaskar commented on Miller’s choice, suggesting that he might have been better off giving Kuldeep the strike. However, Gavaskar acknowledged Miller’s confidence to finish off the game given his form in the preceding overs.

“Yes, he was backing himself to hit the winning runs, but having seen the way Kuldeep Yadav nudged that ball for a single off the first ball maybe he should have given Kuldeep the strike,” Gavaskar said. “He should have given the strike. This is all being wise after the event, but the fact remains that the way he had been hitting the previous over and that over as well, he believed that he could do it, simple as that. So you can’t fault him for that. He had the confidence that he could do it, but it didn’t come off because the ball that Prasid Krishna bowled was an absolutely superb delivery.”

‘DIDN’T WANT TO TAKE RISK WITH KULDEEP’

Kevin Pietersen offered another perspective, explaining that Miller might have viewed taking a single as a risk that could lead to losing the match outright, preferring instead to avoid that by retaining the strike.

“I think purely based on the fact that he thought that from that last delivery, he would guarantee to get one at least. And if not one, he would strike it out of the ground because he’s that good at striking the ball out of the ground. So that’s where his mind would have been. Does he want to risk Kuldeep or Kuldeep getting out?” Pietersen said. He continued, “Yes, they’ve tied the game, and yes, they’ve got the super over, but he thought from that final delivery, I’ll definitely get one. The worst case is one. I’m not going to miss it. Best case, I’ll get a 2,3,4,5,6. That’s where he was at.”

Following the match, Miller was consoled by Delhi Capitals captain Axar Patel, who appreciated Miller’s efforts in bringing the team close to victory. Delhi Capitals will next face Chennai Super Kings on April 11.

Chiraiya actor Siddharth Shaw on getting hate for his character in the show: People want to put me in a blue drum

Chiraiya actor Siddharth Shaw on getting hate for his character in the show: People want to put me in a blue drum

Actor Siddharth Shaw played the character of Arun, a newlywed husband who rapes her wife, played by Prasanna Bisht, repeatedly after marriage, in the web series Chiraiya. He admits that the portrayal is bringing him a lot of hate, but he is enjoying that. “People want to put me in a blue drum, and I recently only got to know that reference. That is from the women’s perspective,” he says, referencing to the gruesome murder case in Meerut from March 2025 where a man’s dismembered body was found sealed inside a blue plastic drum.

He adds, “From the men’s perspective, the hate which I’m getting is mostly expletives which are coming up. And then there are these reels or videos or mails where people reach out and say that it was going on really well, and then the whole male community was silenced. I’m so happy to see so much hate because it’s stemming from a space of love only for me. This guy is hated to that level, that means I’ve done my job well.”

The actor asserts that shooting the intimate scenes brought in a lot of mental distress for him. “The first day when we shot intimacy for suhagrat, we were doing the first take and I literally howled for five minutes. We stopped shooting as I was just crying there. Everybody was just trying to calm me down and be like, ‘hey, it’s all right’. I had taken so much tension and anxiety that because of my stress, my lower back had completely froze. I used to limp while shooting,” he says.

Siddharth Shaw shares that the mental toll was quite heavy on him. “For six months, I had so much anxiety because this was not a lovemaking intimate scene, this was a rape sequence. So the dynamics completely changed in that space. When I went ahead and shot the honeymoon sequence, I got a panic attack right after shooting. And when I saw the sequence, my family could not watch the sequence,” he says.

Commenting on the public discourse around the show, with people calling it an ‘anti men propaganda’, Siddharth says, “I believe as artistes and as filmmakers, our onus, our responsibility lies on starting a discourse, start a discussion about whatever things are happening in society, good, bad, evil, ugly. So when I talk to people in purview of Chiraiya and the kind of discourse which it has sparked today online and in drawing room conversations, I personally feel that our job is done. I feel it is great that people are voicing things like this as well. When they feel that this is a propaganda, then there are counter replies to those people by the audience themselves.”

US stock markets today (April 8, 2026): Dow jumps 1,300, S&P 500 gains 2.4%; crude oil tumbles toward $90 on Iran ceasefire

US stock markets rallied sharply on Wednesday while crude oil prices plunged toward $90 per barrel after President Donald Trump announced a two-week ceasefire with Iran, easing fears of prolonged supply disruptions, AP reported. The S&P 500 surged 2.4%, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average jumped 1,332 points, or 2.9%, and the Nasdaq Composite climbed 2.9% in early trade, tracking strong gains across European and Asian markets. The rally followed Trump’s decision to pull back from escalation shortly before a deadline for reopening the Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil transit route.Oil prices saw a steep correction, with US benchmark crude falling 17.7% to $92.92 per barrel, while Brent crude dropped 16.1% to $91.68. Prices had earlier spiked above $119 amid peak war concerns.Despite the sharp gains, markets remain below pre-war levels, and risks persist if tensions flare up again, which could disrupt oil flows and keep energy prices elevated.“There is a reason to be optimistic, but it is still too early to tell, because, as you know, after all, it is Trump,” said Takashi Hiroki, chief strategist at MONEX.Analysts said the ceasefire has reduced immediate uncertainty, but questions remain over its durability and whether it will lead to sustained stability in energy markets.“Is it just kicking of the can down the road, moving the goalposts, TACO Tuesday, or whatever metaphor we’d like, to only to have tempers flare and bombs drop again?… Who knows? But it’s good enough for now to elicit a positive response from the markets,” said Brian Jacobsen, chief economic strategist at Annex Wealth Management.Global markets rallied in tandem, with South Korea’s Kospi rising 6.9%, Japan’s Nikkei 225 gaining 5.4% and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng climbing 3.1%. In Europe, Germany’s DAX advanced 4.9% and France’s CAC 40 rose 4.7%.On Wall Street, companies sensitive to fuel costs led gains. United Airlines jumped 12%, Delta Air Lines rose 8.2% after reporting stronger-than-expected earnings, and Carnival surged 13.7%.In the bond market, US Treasury yields eased, with the 10-year yield falling to 4.26% from 4.33%, as cooling oil prices raised expectations that the Federal Reserve could resume rate cuts.Traders now see nearly a 39% chance of rate cuts in 2026, according to CME Group data, as easing energy prices reduce inflation risks. However, oil markets remain sensitive to developments around the Strait of Hormuz, with future price trends depending on how smoothly tanker traffic resumes and whether geopolitical tensions remain contained.

Ketamine Queen gets 15 yrs in prison; Matthew Perry's family reacts

Ketamine Queen gets 15 yrs in prison; Matthew Perry's family reacts

Matthew Perry death case: 'Ketamine Queen' Jasveen Sangha gets 15 years in prison for selling drugs; 'Friends' star's family reacts to sentencing

A federal judge on Wednesday handed down a sentence of 15 years in prison to a woman, Jasveen Sangha, also known as ‘Ketamine Queen’, who pleaded guilty to selling “Friends” star Matthew Perry the ketamine that killed him in 2023.Fifteen years was the exact sentence prosecutors had asked for. Sangha’s attorneys argued the time she has spent in jail since her August 2024 indictment should be sufficient. They pointed to her lack of prior arrests and exemplary behavior as an inmate, as well as the unlikelihood she would return to a life of drug dealing. “You’re going to have to show some epic resilience,” Judge Sherilyn Peace Garnett said to Sangha, echoing the defendant’s words earlier in the hearing about her self-improvement.

Jasveen Sangha admits she made ‘horrible decisions’

Prosecutors cast her in court filings as a “Ketamine Queen” who had an elaborate drug operation catering to high-end clients to give herself a jet-setting lifestyle.Sangha stood at the podium Wednesday just before she was sentenced and told the judge she wears her shame “like a jacket.” “These were not mistakes. They were horrible decisions,” Sangha said, which “shattered people’s lives and the lives of their family and friends.”

Jasveen Sangha’s lawyer blames addiction for Matthew Perry’s death

Mark Geragos, Sangha’s attorney, said “pernicious” addiction was truly responsible for Perry’s death, not his client.“There was nobody who was going to stop Mr. Perry from doing what he was going to do,” Geragos said.Perry was found dead in the hot tub at his Los Angeles home. The medical examiner ruled that ketamine, typically used as a surgical anesthetic, was the primary cause of death. Drowning was cited as a secondary cause, with coronary artery disease and buprenorphine also cited as factors.

Jasveen Sangha’s team questions sentencing

Citing the unique role she admitted to in Perry’s death and her broader drug-dealing business, the judge gave the 42-year-old a sentence that will almost certainly be more than all four of her co-defendants combined. Two more will be sentenced later this month. But Wednesday’s hearing in a Los Angeles courtroom was in many ways the pinnacle of the 2 1/2-year investigation and prosecution that followed the overdose death of the 54-year-old actor, whose role as Chandler Bing on NBC’s “Friends” in the 1990s and 2000s made him one of the biggest television stars of the era.The judge said she was trying to carefully calibrate the sentences for the five defendants. She expressed concern about the balance during the hearing, asking lawyers why Sangha deserved so much more time than Plasencia or Perry’s assistant, Kenneth Iwamasa, who obtained and injected the drugs at Perry’s request and injected them into him. Geragos seized on this and said the disparity was outrageous. “The person who supplies the ammunition, they’re more culpable than the person who pulls the trigger?” he asked.

About Matthew Perry’s ketamine use

Perry had been using the drug through his regular doctor as a legal off-label treatment for depression. But he sought more than the doctor would give him. That at first led him to Dr. Salvador Plasencia, who admitted to illegally selling Perry ketamine and was sentenced to 2 1/2 years in prison. And, days before his death, it led Perry to Sangha, and a $6,000 cash buy that included the lethal dose. Another doctor, who admitted to providing Plasencia the ketamine he sold to Perry, was sentenced to eight months of home detention. Perry’s assistant and his friend, who admitted acting as the actor’s middlemen, are awaiting sentencing.

Mattew Perry’s family reacts

Keith Morrison, Perry’s stepfather and correspondent for NBC’s “Dateline,” told the judge that he and Perry’s mother, Suzanne, feel a “daily, grinding sadness and sorrow.”“There was a spark to that man I have never seen anywhere else,” Morrison said in his familiar and dramatic voice. “He should have had another act. Two more acts.”Perry’s stepmother Debbie Perry told Sangha she had caused pain for “hundreds, maybe thousands” of people. The judge commended Sangha for the “countless” letters of support she got from family and friends touting her loving decency. Many of them were there in court, sitting on the opposite side from Perry’s family. “There’s no joy in this process,” Garnett told the victim’s family members. “Maybe at the end of the day you will feel a sense of justice.”

Jasveen Sangha slams ‘Ketamine Queen’ tag

In September, Sangha became the last of five co-defendants to plead guilty, admitting to one count of using her home for drug distribution, three counts of distribution of ketamine, and one count of distribution of ketamine resulting in death.Geragos denounced the prosecution’s use of the moniker “Ketamine Queen,” blaming it on E. Martin Estrada, the U.S. attorney when the case was filed. “That was not her name, that was his very clever name to draw media attention this case,” he said.

Jasveen Sangha’s drug business

But before sentencing, Garnett said the size of Sangha’s drug business, the years she spent dealing and her long list of clients clearly made her more culpable. And she said she believed Sangha’s criminal history was underrepresented. The judge also cited Sangha’s continued dealing after learning through a text message from his sister that one of her customers, 33-year-old Cody McLaury, had died in 2019. The sister, Kimberly McLaury, spoke in court. “Had you stopped selling ketamine when I texted you, we wouldn’t be here today,” she said.

KL Rahul’s 92 goes in vain as Delhi Capitals choke; David Miller fails to score 2 off 2 against Gujarat Titans

KL Rahul returned to form, but it wasn’t enough to help Delhi Capitals secure a third straight win. Chasing a challenging target at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Wednesday, Rahul stood tall with a well-crafted 92, anchoring the innings almost single-handedly but falling short of a deserved century against Gujarat Titans. He smashed 11 fours and four sixes during his 52-ball stay in the middle; however, Delhi (209/8) were short of just one run in the end while chasing a 211-run target as David Miller‘s 41-run* knock also went in vain.

The wicketkeeper-batter laid the base early and showed control throughout the chase. After the early dismissal of Pathum Nissanka, he shifted gears, taking on the bowlers and finding boundaries with ease. He went after Prasidh Krishna in one over to bring up a fluent half-century off just 29 balls, keeping Delhi in the hunt. However, with wickets falling regularly at the other end, Rahul was forced to balance caution with aggression. He steadied the innings before looking to accelerate again as the required rate climbed. Just when Delhi needed him to stay till the end, Rahul was dismissed in the 17th over by Mohammed Siraj, ending a fine knock that ultimately went in vain.

Rahul had a forgettable start to the season with a duck and a single in the first two matches, but when the chase was over 200, he thrived under pressure.

Apart from Nissanka, he didn’t get much support from the other end. He and Nissanka shared a 76-run stand for the opening wicket, where he was the second fiddle with the Sri Lankan smashing 41 runs off 23 balls. The Proteas batter smashed Mohammed Siraj for a couple of sixes and a four in the penultimate over but the momentum shifted on the last two balls of the game.

David Miller chokes on last two balls

David Miller kept Delhi Capitals in the hunt with a quickfire 41 off 20 balls, nearly pulling off a late heist. His clean hitting in the closing overs put real pressure on the bowlers and briefly tilted the game in Delhi’s favour. However, the chase slipped away at the very end. Kuldeep Yadav was run out off the final delivery, leaving Delhi just one run short. Prasidh Krishna held his nerve in the last over, using variation cleverly to deny Miller and seal a narrow finish.

Earlier, Shubman Gill led from the front with a belligerent half-century to help GT post 210 for four.

Besides Gill (70 off 45 balls; 4x4s, 5x6s), Jos Buttler also chipped in with an aggressive 52 off 27 deliveries while Washington Sundar made a fiery 55 off 32 balls after the Capitals opted to bowl.

Tateeree row: Badshah promises support for 50 girls, issues apology to NCW

Badshah has issued an apology to the National Commission for Women (NCW) in connection with the controversy surrounding his song Tateeree, while also pledging to support the education of 50 girls from economically weaker sections.

Badshah issues an apology to NCW

The rapper appeared before the commission after it took cognisance of complaints alleging that the song’s lyrics and visuals were objectionable and disrespectful towards women. During the hearing, the panel expressed serious concern over the content, stating that it had hurt “the dignity and decency of women.”

Responding to the criticism, Badshah, whose real name is Aditya Prateek Singh Sisodia, submitted an unconditional written apology along with members of his team. The artist acknowledged the backlash and expressed regret over the impact the song had on society.

As part of his assurance to the commission, Badshah said, “I will work for the upliftment of women and society,” adding that he plans to “present a positive song on women’s empowerment within four months.”

In a significant move, the rapper also committed to sponsoring the education of 50 girls from underprivileged backgrounds. This gesture, he explained, is aimed at contributing positively to society and supporting women’s empowerment in a tangible way.

All about the Tateeree controversy

The controversy around Tateeree began shortly after its release, with multiple complaints filed across states. Critics accused the track of promoting vulgarity and objectifying women, which eventually led to legal scrutiny and intervention by women’s commissions. The issue escalated further when authorities summoned the artist and other members involved in the song’s production.

Following the backlash, the song was taken down from various platforms, and Badshah had earlier issued a public apology as well. However, his appearance before the NCW marked a more formal step in addressing the concerns raised against him.

During the proceedings, the commission also directed those involved to ensure that such incidents are not repeated in the future. Officials emphasised the responsibility of artists and creators in shaping societal attitudes, especially regarding the portrayal of women.

Badshah’s latest commitments indicate an effort to move forward from the controversy by focusing on more responsible content. His promise to create a song centered on women’s empowerment, along with supporting girls’ education, reflects an attempt to align his work with a more positive social message.

As the matter moves toward closure, the focus now remains on whether these assurances will translate into meaningful action in the coming months.
