Mumbai Indians to poach Vaibhav Sooryavanshi from Rajasthan Royals? Boy wonder’s big IPL switch inevitable

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s stocks are at an all-time high, and his assault on Jasprit Bumrah has only raised them further. Is there anything the kid can’t do? In a contest reduced to 11 overs per side, Sooryavanshi plundered 39 off just 14 balls, smashing five sixes and a four. The highlight, of course, was his two towering sixes off Bumrah. The much-awaited battle, delayed by three hours of rain, lived up to the hype, with Sooryavanshi clearly winning Round 1. Unfortunately, it lasted just five balls, but in that brief exchange, the world got a glimpse of his mindset: the kid fears neither legends nor their reputations.

The Rajasthan Royals have played a key role in shaping Sooryavanshi into the force he is becoming. Known for unearthing extravagant talent, RR have a history of nurturing stars such as Sanju Samson, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Riyan Parag… and now Sooryavanshi. However, they have also been known to let big names slip; their decision to release Jos Buttler still surprises. Hence, in the ever-volatile dynamic of the Indian Premier League, it wouldn’t be surprising if the Mumbai Indians, the five-time champions with a penchant for marquee signings, show interest in Sooryavanshi sooner rather than later.

The move will eventually happen

Former BCCI selector Jatin Paranjape has stirred the pot, suggesting that Sooryavanshi will eventually end up playing for the Mumbai Indians. “Vaibhav Sooryavanshi will play against his future team tonight,” he posted on X, sparking widespread speculation. When will it happen? If so, how? Will the Royals agree? The IPL is a funny league; expecting the unexpected is hardly an exaggeration. How else do you explain the Mumbai Indians bringing back Hardik Pandya after his two hugely successful seasons with the Gujarat Titans? GT were never quite the same after Hardik’s departure, and if push comes to shove, RR could well find themselves in a similar position.

The Royals have already lost Buttler and Samson, two names that became synonymous with the franchise over the years. Sooryavanshi is still young and learning; after all, he is only 15. Bought for ₹1.10 crore at the IPL 2025 mega auction, his price tag hardly reflects his true value. If Sooryavanshi were to enter the auction today, he wouldn’t just threaten Rishabh Pant’s record as the costliest buy; he would shatter it. For the first time ever, the ₹30-crore mark might well be breached, with few more deserving than India’s latest boy wonder.

Two scenarios could make it happen. The IPL retentions have historically produced some bold calls before, such as when Kolkata Knight Riders chose not to retain Shreyas Iyer despite his title-winning captaincy, after he felt he wasn’t being offered a fair deal. Sooryavanshi may still be too young to dictate financial terms, but that possibility can’t be ruled out entirely. And even if he stays with the Rajasthan Royals this season, the 2027 mega auction will almost certainly draw interest from the Mumbai Indians.

When to expect Vaibhav’s big switch?

For the longest time, it was believed that Yashasvi Jaiswal would be MI’s prime target, but the franchise has never shied away from chasing marquee talent. Be it Ishan Kishan when he was red-hot or Jofra Archer despite injury. It may only be a matter of time before Sooryavanshi makes the big leap, one that could go down as the biggest transfer in IPL history. Whether through a trade or at the auction, he could well become the richest teenager in the history of the IPL.

The cricketing world is already going ga-ga over Sooryavanshi, with former players and fans alike calling for his India debut. Now that he’s 15 and eligible to play for the senior men’s team as per BCCI protocols, the clamour is only growing louder with each innings. Sooryavanshi has ticked almost every box – representing India A and the Under-19 side in England, Australia and South Africa, scoring centuries in each of those countries, and even winning the Under-19 World Cup. The next step, naturally, for Ajit Agarkar and the selection committee is to hand him his India cap. Don’t sit on it. Strike while the iron is hot. Because once Sooryavanshi has that cap, the Mumbai Indians will be waiting – licking their lips.

Satinder Sartaaj on plans after Jaiye Sajana going viral post Dhurandhar: ‘Bollywood hi aim nahi hai’ | Exclusive

The spotlight on Satinder Sartaaj has never been brighter with his track, Jaiye Sajana, with Jasmine Sandlas for the Ranveer Singh-starrer Dhurandhar 2 dominating social media feeds and streaming playlists since its release. Despite the buzz, the singer-poet remains unfazed, choosing instead to maintain his composure and focus on balancing his Bollywood work with his journey as an independent music artist.

At the moment, Satinder Sartaaj is getting plaudits for his song Jaiye Sajana in Dhurandhar The Revenge.
At the moment, Satinder Sartaaj is getting plaudits for his song Jaiye Sajana in Dhurandhar The Revenge.

On viral Jaiye Sajana

Hindustan Times recently caught up with the Punjabi singer just before he set the stage alight with his soulful music against the iconic backdrop of Purana Qila at the Jahan-e-Khusrau World Sufi Music Festival.

Bring up the topic of his song from Aditya Dhar‘s Dhurandhar 2, which is working well at the box office, going viral. To this, Satinder laughs and gives the credit to his luck and the team behind the Bollywood film.

“Ab woh toh hai… isko aab Itefaaq kahiye, meri khushkismati ya niyamat kahiye… Yeh khaas taur par unki team ko credit jata hai. Sara sehra film ke crew ko jata hai hai humara toh bas naam lag gaya hai (Well, you can call it a coincidence, my good fortune, or a blessing… The credit really goes to their team. All the applause belongs to the film crew; we just happen to have our name attached to the song),” Satinder tells us with a chuckle.

During the conversation, he notes, “Dekhiye main zindagi mein kuch expect nahi karta, jab aap chhodh dete ho raza mein toh barkat zyada hoti hai (I don’t expect anything in life. When you let go and accept things as they come, the blessings are more).”

Amid the whirlwind success of Jaiye Sajana, Satinder has already shifted gears, hitting the road with his tour across India while also diving into new musical projects.

So is Bollywood not his sole focus? “Yes, that’s true… Sirf Bollywood hi aim nahi hai. Doosre kaam pe bhi focus hai (My focus is not limited to just Bollywood, and working on different things),” says the singer, who was born in Bajrawar village in Punjab’s Hoshiarpur district.

Talking about being unfazed by the fame and popularity coming his way, Satinder says, “Abhi toh main concerts and tours mein hi busy hun. Abhi aur gaane aayenge Bollywood mein mere, but woh sab maine pehle hi record karke rakhe hue hai. Release abhi honge (Right now, I’m completely busy with concerts and tours. More songs of mine will come out in Bollywood, but I’ve already recorded them earlier – they just haven’t been released yet).”

He continues, “I don’t keep a track of when the song will be out, and the reaction to it… In fact, there are times when I have found out that a song of mine has been released only once it is out… In fact, when the song Rang (Sky Force) came out, I was performing in Hyderabad, and got to know about the release after my performance. So, this is how I am.”

On independent work

Apart from Jaiye Sajana, Satinder, who holds an honours degree in music, followed by an MPhil and a PhD in Sufi singing from Punjab University, Chandigarh, is known for songs such as Sai, Sajjan Raazi, Udaarian, Rutba, Tere Bina Na Guzara E, and Ikko – Mikke.

Going forward, he wants to continue balancing between his commercial work and independent music. And he says it is not tough at all.

“Mushkil nahi hai… You just have to be content with your inner self as a creative human being. If that if there, it is not tough at all… That’s also because you don’t have to manage anything… It just happens very naturally and organically,” he stresses.

In fact, his choice to perform at a Sufi music festival, even amid the ongoing buzz around his Dhurandhar 2 song, reflects this mindset.

“The audience who will come to a Sufi festival will be very different from the people who come to watch my performance at JLN Stadium…it is interesting for me to see such things and perform as per the festival’s demands,” he shares.

Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya pointed fingers at his bowling unit after their 27-run defeat to Rajasthan Royals in a rain-curtailed 11-overs-a-side IPL 2026 clash at the ACA Stadium.Opting to bowl first, Mumbai failed to make early inroads as Rajasthan’s openers, Yashasvi Jaiswal and teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, launched a brutal assault. The duo powered RR to a flying start, smashing 56 runs in just 3.2 overs of the Power-play. Jaiswal remained unbeaten on 77 off 32 balls, while Sooryavanshi contributed a quickfire 39 off 14, helping Rajasthan post a daunting 150/3 in 11 overs.Chasing 151, Mumbai’s batting line-up crumbled under pressure. Reduced to 46/5 early on, they never recovered and finished at 123/9, falling short by 27 runs.Hardik Pandya blames the bowling unitSpeaking after the match, Pandya admitted the bowlers failed to execute their plans. He emphasised that the unit conceded too many boundaries in the initial overs, allowing RR to take control of the game.“We did not execute the deliveries we were supposed to. They played well. Bowlers need to take responsibility. As a bowling group, we were not up to the mark. They also played tremendously,” said Pandya in the post-match presentation.Pandya said he would not blame his batters for not scoring enough runs in the Power-play. “I would not put the blame on batting. Definitely the bowling unit, which had to take responsibility. It is always about bowling those good balls. If we had executed, we would have been in the game. Their openers threw us off our game, and we were playing catch-up,” he added.Asked about RR’s teenage batting sensation, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Pandya said, “Quite fascinating to see a 17- or 16-year-old boy (15-year-old) play that way. Amazing to see the way he bats, the fearlessness he has. Wish him good luck for the future.”Pandya refused to get disheartened by the result and said they would learn from their mistakes. “Just learn from the mistakes. Morning will come tomorrow, the sun will rise, prepare well for the next game,” he said.Mumbai Indians next fixtureMumbai Indians will next face Royal Challengers Bengaluru at their home ground, the Wankhede Stadium. While Mumbai have historically dominated at this venue, registering eight wins over Bengaluru, RCB come into the clash with confidence as defending champions and having won four of their last six encounters against MI.

Why is stock market up today? Nifty50 above 23,900; BSE Sensex rallies over 2,800 points on US-Iran ceasefire - top reasons for rally
Stock market today (AI image)

Stock market today: Buoyed by the two week US-Iran ceasefire, stock markets opened in green on Wednesday, rallying strongly. While Nifty50 went above 23,900, BSE Sensex rose over 2,800 points. At 10:15 AM, Nifty50 was trading at 23,872.50, up 748 points or 3.24%. BSE Sensex was at 77,193.16, up 2,576 points or 3.45%.The market rally is supported by a temporary ceasefire between the US and Iran, a sharp decline in oil prices, and other favourable triggers. The gains marked the fifth consecutive session of advances. The sharp upswing added over Rs 12.92 lakh crore to the total market capitalisation of companies listed on the BSE, taking it to around Rs 442 lakh crore.Dr. VK Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist, Geojit Investments Limited says, “The 2-week ceasefire between the US and Iran has dramatically altered the near-term market scenario. The crash in Brent crude to $95 following the ceasefire will again turn the market bullish. This ceasefire, particularly the agreed reopening of Hormuz Strait, will embolden the bulls to charge again, aided by the fair market valuations.”“RBI, aided by the crash in crude, will opt for a hold in rates today. The policy stance will continue to be neutral. The upside risk to inflation and the downside risk to growth can now be managed well. Rupee will strengthen and this may even force the FPIs to turn buyers; at least they will have to cease the sustained selling, which will become irrational in the present context. Short covering can sustain the rally.in the near-term Nifty will cruise towards 24000 and further movements will depend on the evolving outlook. In brief, it is risk on again. Beaten down financials have the potential to stage a dramatic recovery. Crude-related stocks like refineries, aviation, capital goods companies with exposure to the Gulf region, paints and adhesives will be on strong wicket.”Shares of IndiGo led the rally on the Sensex with a 10% surge. Other major gainers included L&T, Adani Ports, Bajaj Finance, Bajaj Finserv, UltraTech Cement, Maruti Suzuki, Mahindra & Mahindra, Axis Bank, Eternal, and HDFC Bank, which advanced between 5% and 7%. Tech Mahindra was the only stock on the index to trade in negative territory, posting marginal losses. The rally was broad-based, extending beyond large-cap stocks to midcap and smallcap segments. Both the Nifty Midcap 100 and Nifty Smallcap 100 indices rose more than 3%. Market breadth remained strong, with around 2,677 stocks advancing on the NSE, compared to 105 declines and 40 stocks remaining unchanged.

Why is stock market up today? Top reasons

Two-week ceasefire between Iran and the USUS President Donald Trump announced that Washington has agreed to halt military strikes for two weeks and has received a 10-point proposal from Iran, which he described as a workable foundation for negotiations. His remarks brought significant relief to financial markets, especially after earlier warnings that Tehran must reopen the Strait of Hormuz or face severe consequences.“This will be a double sided CEASEFIRE!” he wrote on Truth Social. “The reason for doing so is that we have already met and exceeded all Military objectives, and are very far along with a definitive Agreement concerning Longterm PEACE with Iran, and PEACE in the Middle East,” he added.Oil prices fall below $100 per barrelThe temporary pause in hostilities and Iran’s move to reopen the Strait of Hormuz helped cool the sharp rally in oil prices. Brent crude futures declined more than 13% to $94.98 per barrel, while WTI crude dropped over 15% to $95.95 per barrel as of 9 am IST on Wednesday.Oil had surged past the $100 mark in March following disruptions caused by the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, reaching levels last seen during Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022, and had largely remained above that threshold until the recent pullback.Bond yields easeYields on US government securities declined notably, with the benchmark 10-year yield falling to 4.24% and the 30-year bond yield slipping to 4.84%. The 2-year yield, which generally reflects expectations around Federal Reserve policy rates, also dropped to 3.73%.Higher bond yields are typically seen as diverting global investment flows away from Indian equities. Yields had risen sharply through most of March during the Iran-US conflict before reversing course.Global markets gain momentumGlobal equities moved higher after Iran confirmed the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz under the ceasefire arrangement. Japan’s Nikkei advanced over 5%, while South Korea’s Kospi surged more than 6%. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng climbed nearly 3%, and China’s Shanghai Composite gained around 2%.On Wall Street, the previous session ended largely unchanged, but futures indicate a strong opening ahead. Dow Jones futures were up more than 2% after the key US indices had earlier posted mixed, marginal movements.Rupee rebounds The Indian rupee appreciated by 50 paise to 92.56 against the US dollar in early trade following the ceasefire agreement between the US and Iran. The currency had recently weakened significantly, crossing the key 95 level amid the ongoing conflict, but has since recovered some ground. This comes after the Reserve Bank of India intensified measures to support the rupee by restricting banks from offering rupee non-deliverable forwards to clients and limiting the rebooking of cancelled forward contracts by companies. The rupee’s movement will remain in focus as RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra announces the outcome of the central bank’s monetary policy committee meeting later today.(Disclaimer: Recommendations and views on the stock market, other asset classes or personal finance management tips given by experts are their own. Virender Sehwag urges Ajinkya Rahane to avoid unnecessary confrontations

Virender Sehwag has advised players to avoid unnecessary confrontations in response to Ajinkya Rahane’s “jealousy” remark about critics during IPL 2026. The former India opener suggested that engaging in such exchanges serves little purpose, especially as scrutiny intensifies around Kolkata Knight Riders amid their winless start to the season.

Rahane, leading KKR through a difficult phase with back-to-back defeats, appeared visibly displeased when questioned about his strike rate in a press conference. His response, labelling critics as “jealous” drew attention for its sharp tone, marking a departure from his typically composed public persona.

Earlier, after KKR’s campaign opener, Rahane handled a query on why Cameron Green was not being used as a bowler with far more restraint, indicating that the matter was influenced by directives from Cricket Australia. Sehwag believed that response but pointed out the inconsistency in tone.

“I don`t think players should say all of this. I know he is the captain and he was asked why Cameron Green isn`t bowling. He didn`t have a straight answer for that, so he said to ask Cricket Australia,” Sehwag told Cricbuzz.

“I can understand that. But if someone is questioning my strike rate or batting style, people will praise you and criticise you, but you have to be neutral with both. Why is there a need to engage in such fights?” he asked.

Drawing on examples of icons renowned for their composure, Sehwag emphasised that silence often speaks louder than rebuttals. He pointed to figures like former India cricketer Sachin Tendulkar and Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan, who rarely respond directly to criticism despite facing intense public scrutiny.

“They seem to be answering the critics, but even Bachchan saab (Amitabh Bachchan) never answered his critics. There couldn`t be a bigger example than Tendulkar; one newspaper had even written `Endulkar`,” he remarked.

“So, I feel one should keep quiet. Score a century and everyone will be quiet. Keep calm and do your work. What else? I don`t think these things require an answer,” he opined.

Caution, relief as US politicians respond to Trump’s ceasefire with Iran | US-Israel war on Iran News

Washington, DC – Politicians in the United States have largely welcomed the truce between the US and Iran, with some of President Donald Trump’s Republican allies voicing scepticism about a possible deal, as Democrats renewed calls for accountability over an “illegal war”.

Trump announced the ceasefire on Tuesday, about 10 hours after proclaiming that a “whole civilization will die tonight”. The two-week truce will see Iran reopen the Strait of Hormuz as Tehran and Washington negotiate a lasting end to the war.

Senator Lindsey Graham, a Trump ally and one of the most vocal Iran hawks in Congress, said he preferred diplomacy and appreciated “the hard work of all involved in trying to find a diplomatic solution”.

But he said he was “extremely cautious” about reports surrounding the ceasefire agreement and stressed that lawmakers will review any deal with Iran.

Trump had said on Tuesday that the US and Iran were “very far along with a definitive” agreement and described Tehran’s 10-point plan for a deal as a “workable basis on which to negotiate”.

The content of any future agreement remains unclear, but Iranian officials say the 10-point plan includes sanctions relief for Iran and allowing the country to retain control over the Strait of Hormuz.

The proposal also says that the US would accept Iran’s domestic uranium enrichment, according to Iranian media.

Lindsey stressed that lawmakers would review any deal with Iran.

“We must remember that the Strait of Hormuz was attacked by Iran after the start of the war, destroying freedom of navigation,” Graham wrote on X. “Going forward, it is imperative Iran is not rewarded for this hostile act against the world.”

The senator added that Iran must not be allowed to return to the uranium enrichment “business”.

“Time will tell,” he wrote.

Democrats – who have been calling Trump’s removal from office after he threatened to bomb civilian infrastructure in Iran, which would amount to war crimes – lauded the two-week ceasefire.

“Stopping war is good,” Democratic Senator Ruben Gallego wrote on X. “I am glad our men and women in uniform will be out of danger. We can criticize why we got into this war, the illegality of it and holding the Trump admin accountable. But right now I am relieved.”

Iran hawks predict war will resume

Trump’s allies in Congress, including the leaders of the House of Representatives and the Senate, have not commented on the ceasefire in its immediate aftermath.

But some of the war’s supporters underscored that Trump had not agreed to the Iranian plan, arguing that the truce is only a temporary pause to hostilities, which will likely resume.

Laura Loomer, a far-right activist close to Trump, predicted that the ceasefire “will fail”.

“The negotiation is a negative for our country. We didn’t really get anything out of it and the terrorists in Iran are celebrating,” she wrote on X.

“I don’t know why people are acting like this is a win.”

Mark Levin, another pro-Israel commentator with ties to Trump, said that while he trusts the US president’s “instincts”, the war is not over.

“This enemy is still the enemy; they’re still surviving,” he said of Iran.

Trump launched the war on February 28 without congressional authorisation. US and Israeli strikes killed Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on the first day of the conflict.

Another attack hit a girls’ school in the southern city of Minab, killing more than 170 people, mostly children.

Iran responded with drone and missile attacks against Israel and the entire region.

The Iranian military also closed the Strait of Hormuz – a major waterway for energy products – sending oil and gas prices soaring.

On Tuesday, Senator Chris Murphy, a Democrat, said that allowing Iran to control the strait would be a “history-changing win” for Tehran.

“The level of incompetence is both stunning and heartbreaking,” he said on X.

‘Ceasefire is not clean slate’

Other Democrats called for accountability against Trump for launching the war.

“I’m glad there is a reported ceasefire deal with Iran. But we shouldn’t be in this illegal war in the first place,” said Senator Ed Markey.

“And Donald Trump can’t simply threaten war crimes with impunity. Congress needs to get back in session now to stop this war and remove Donald Trump.”

Under the US Constitution, only Congress has the authority to declare war, and international law prohibits targeting civilian infrastructure as a form of collective punishment.

Progressive Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said the truce “changes nothing”, stressing that Trump should still be impeached and removed from office over the war.

“The President has threatened a genocide against the Iranian people, and is continuing to leverage that threat,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote on X. “He has launched a massive war of enormous risk and of catastrophic consequence without reason, rationale, nor Congressional authorization – which is as clear a violation of the Constitution as any.”

Raed Jarrar, advocacy director at the rights group DAWN, also said that US legislators should probe Trump’s decision to go to war against Iran.

“Congress must open an immediate investigation into how this war started, who authorised it, who profited from it, and who will be held accountable for every civilian killed,” Jarrar told Al Jazeera.

“This ceasefire is not a clean slate. It should be the beginning of accountability.”

The United States and Iran reached a two-week ceasefire on Tuesday, less than an hour before Trump’s deadline to strike Iran was due to end. As part of the agreement, Tehran agreed to reopen the crucial Strait of Hormuz for a limited period.

The White House said Israel had also agreed to the ceasefire. The last-minute deal came after Trump said he had spoken to Pakistan’s leadership, who had called for a pause in hostilities.

Iran described the ceasefire as a success and said it would hold talks with Washington starting Friday in Pakistan, as part of efforts to end the conflict.

NEW DELHI: Sai Sudharsan takes to IPL like a duck to water. From the time he made his debut for Gujarat Titans four seasons ago, the 24-year-old has emerged as one of the cornerstones of their batting. He has been their top rungetter in the last two seasons and claimed the Orange Cap with most runs in the tournament last year. Into his fifth IPL season, the southpaw showed signs of continuing his merry run by hitting a fluent 44-ball 73 in Titans’ previous game against Rajasthan Royals, which they lost by six runs.Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. Whatever matches I play, the preparation, the effort and hard work I put in is similar. I’m just grateful and lucky enough to execute it here,” said the cricketer from Tamil Nadu on the eve of the Titans’ game against Delhi Capitals here on Wednesday.“IPL is one of the biggest platforms anybody can get. I think the mindset should be to do our best, be as versatile as possible and equip yourself for any situation. Greater things will happen on their own,” he added.

Sai Sudharsan

A batsman with sound technique, Sudharsan’s success in IPL last season earned him a call-up to the Test squad for India’s tour of England. But he couldn’t replicate that success in the longest version of the game, returning with returns in the format with 302 runs from six matches at an average of 27.He admits shifting formats can be demanding for a modern-day cricketer. “Shifting formats is the biggest challenge we face. Sometimes we get just two or three days and we are expected to deliver in each format. Apart from that, mentally, there is always the decision-making aspect that a player has to make during play. That is another big challenge,” he said.Sudharsan reckons with the nature of the T20 game changing rapidly, the mental aspect of the game is as important as the skill level and technical aspect. “I think it’s about fine-tuning and having a clear thought process and getting your mind sorted. I put in a lot of effort towards that during the off-season. I do yoga, a lot of meditation and visualisation to keep myself mentally fit,” Sudharsan said.
