In view of the gatherings, traffic police in Bengaluru, Thane, Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad and Mumbai have announced extensive restrictions, diversions and no-parking zones to regulate vehicular movement and maintain public safety.
The restrictions vary by city and will remain in force for specified periods, with several orders continuing until the respective processions conclude. Emergency services, including ambulances, fire brigade vehicles and police vehicles, have been exempted from the restrictions where specified.
Why Eid-E-Milad Is Observed
Eid-E-Milad-un-Nabi is observed on the 12th day of Rabi’ al-Awwal, the third month of the Islamic calendar. The occasion commemorates the birth of Prophet Muhammad, who was born in Mecca around 570 CE and is revered by Muslims for his teachings on compassion, justice, equality and kindness.
The day also carries significance because the Prophet is traditionally believed to have died on the same date. Muslims mark the occasion through prayers, religious gatherings, recitations and processions.
Bengaluru Traffic Restrictions
Several parts of Bengaluru will see traffic diversions on Wednesday as members of the Muslim community are expected to gather at the YMCA Ground on Nrupatunga Road between noon and 11 pm.
Police have identified several corridors where congestion is likely, including JC Road, KG Road, Raja Ram Mohan Roy Road, Kasturba Road, Mallya Hospital Road, RT Nagar Main Road, Dinnur Main Road, Jayamahal Road, Nagawara Main Road, Tannery Main Road and Haines Road-Miller’s Road.
Mysuru Road To Majestic Diversion
Vehicles travelling from Mysuru Road towards Majestic will be diverted through Nayandahalli Junction, Nagarabhavi Circle, Madduramma Temple, Chandra Layout Junction, RPC Layout Junction, West of Chord Road, Vijayanagar Metro Station, Toll Gate Junction, Prasanna Junction, Hunasemara Junction, Lulu Mall, Okalipuram Junction and Khode Junction before proceeding towards Majestic.
Commuters travelling from Mysuru Road can also use Vijayanagar and Magadi Road towards Majestic or KR Market to reach the western side of Chord Road.
Market Area Restrictions
Diversions will be introduced around Market Circle, Town Hall, KR Road and SJP Road as the procession moves through the area.
Heavy goods vehicles will face entry restrictions on select routes between noon and 11 pm. Parking will also be prohibited on certain stretches, including Queen’s Road and parts of Cubbon Park.
Mumbai Traffic Restrictions
Mumbai Traffic Police have announced restrictions and diversions in parts of Ghatkopar, Kurla and Vikhroli for the Eid-E-Milad procession on August 26. Around 20,000 to 25,000 people are expected to participate in the procession, which will include approximately 100 to 125 motor lorries and trucks.
The procession will begin at Zama Masjid in Chirag Nagar, Ghatkopar West, at 1 pm and conclude at Anandgarh Junction, Parksite, Vikhroli West.
The restrictions will come into force from 1 pm and remain in effect until the procession concludes.
Heavy Vehicles Banned On Key Mumbai Roads
All types of heavy vehicles, including private buses, ST buses and BEST buses, will be prohibited from entering certain stretches, except when emergency vehicles are responding to emergencies.
Restrictions will apply at Premier Junction on LBS Marg in Kurla West and Gandhi Nagar Junction in Powai.
A similar restriction will apply on Jeevdaya Lane and MG Road in Ghatkopar West and at Dhruvaraj Junction.
Vehicles approaching from Haveli Bridge in Ghatkopar East will be diverted towards Kirol Road and the Vidyavihar-Vikhroli-Kama Lane route.
Major Diversion At Premier Junction
Heavy vehicles, including private buses, ST buses, BEST buses and clean-up vehicles, travelling towards Ghatkopar and Vikhroli will be stopped at Premier Junction on LBS Marg, Kurla.
Emergency vehicles such as fire tenders, ambulances, hearse vans, police vehicles and municipal vehicles will remain exempt while responding to emergencies.
Vehicles stopped at Premier Junction will be diverted towards Kurla Depot Junction and then towards the Sion-Panvel-Santacruz-Chembur Link Road Bridge.
Diversions Around Kamani Junction
Heavy vehicles approaching Kamani Junction from Bail Bazar or Sunder Baug and travelling towards Ghatkopar will be diverted at Naupada Junction in Kurla West.
From there, vehicles will be directed towards Kurla Depot Junction and then towards the Santacruz-Chembur Link Road Bridge.
Alternatively, vehicles can travel towards Vidyavihar, Kirol Road and Kurla West.
Restrictions Near Gandhi Nagar Junction
Heavy vehicles travelling towards Gandhi Nagar Junction in Powai and intending to continue southwards on LBS Marg will face a no-entry restriction.
Such vehicles will be diverted towards the Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road.
Diversion Towards Shreyas Junction
Heavy vehicles travelling towards Shreyas Junction on LBS Road will also face restrictions. They will be diverted towards the Eastern Highway below the Ghatkopar flyover near the Vikhroli Traffic Division.
Vehicles may also be diverted from Savitribai Phule Junction in Ghatkopar East towards Pantnagar and Ghatkopar East.
Traffic Police Deployment In Mumbai
Traffic police personnel will be deployed at key junctions along the procession route and in neighbouring areas to regulate traffic and assist motorists.
The police have appealed to residents, motorists and members of the public to cooperate with officers and avoid LBS Marg between Kurla and Gandhi Nagar Junction during the procession.
Motorists have been advised to plan their journeys in advance and use alternative routes to minimise delays.
The traffic orders will come into force at 1 pm on August 26 and remain effective until the Eid-E-Milad procession concludes at Anandgarh Naka in Parksite, Vikhroli.
Thane Traffic Restrictions
Thane City Traffic Police have announced restrictions across the Mumbra, Bhiwandi, Rabodi, Kalyan and Vitthalwadi traffic divisions for Eid-E-Milad processions.
The orders, issued by the Traffic Branch under Deputy Commissioner of Police Pankaj Shirsat, have been introduced under Sections 115 and 116 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. They are intended to ease congestion, regulate traffic along procession routes and maintain public safety.
Eid-E-Milad Traffic Restriction Timings
- Mumbra: 2 pm to 10 pm
- Bhiwandi: 12 pm to midnight
- Rabodi: 12 pm to 10 pm
- Kalyan: From 11 am
- Vitthalwadi: From 2 pm
Mumbra Traffic Division Advisory
Restrictions in Mumbra will remain in force on August 26 from 2 pm to 10 pm, or until the procession concludes.
Heavy vehicles travelling from Retibunder towards Mumbra Bypass Junction near Kalsekar College will not be allowed to enter Mumbra city. Heavy vehicles approaching Mumbra city via Mumbra Bypass Junction will also be restricted.
Private and government buses arriving from Retibunder or via Y Junction will not be permitted to enter Mumbra city.
Alternative Routes For Mumbra
Heavy vehicles from Retibunder will have to use the Retibunder-Mumbra Bypass route.
Buses from Retibunder will be directed via the Y Junction flyover towards the Mumbra Bypass. Buses arriving through Y Junction will either have to turn back or use the Mumbra Bypass route.
Bhiwandi Traffic Sub-Division Advisory
Restrictions in Bhiwandi will remain in force from 12 pm on August 26 until midnight.
Heavy vehicles travelling towards Bhiwandi city via Wada Road will not be permitted to enter at Anjur Phata. They will have to divert via Ambadi Naka to National Highway 3 and proceed through the Thane-Mumbai Corporation Pipeline Road.
Chavlindra Naka Diversions
All vehicles travelling via Wada Road towards Bhiwandi city will be stopped at Chavlindra Naka.
Light vehicles will have to turn left towards Vadol Khurd, Telyachi Fata and Kanhoro Fata, continue via Varal Road, turn left towards Vehala Fata, pass the English School and turn right at Temghar Fata before joining Kalyan-Bhiwandi Road.
MSRTC Bus Restrictions
Entry will be closed at Dhamankar Naka, Jambli Pipeline Naka and Chavlindra Naka for MSRTC buses arriving via Wada Bypass.
Buses from Dhamankar Naka will be diverted left through Vadol Khurd towards Pipeline Road. MSRTC buses and private passenger vehicles arriving from Wada will drop passengers at Chavlindra Naka before taking a U-turn towards Wada.
ST Stand Chowk Diversion
MSRTC buses coming from Pune or Kalyan towards Thane or Wada Road and travelling onwards towards Nashik will not be permitted through the Chavlindra Naka route.
These buses will instead turn right at ST Stand Chowk and proceed via Nashik Road.
Rajnoli Naka Restrictions
Rajnoli Naka will be closed to all vehicles entering Bhiwandi city, including MSRTC, KDMT and TMT buses, private buses, cars, rickshaws, two-wheelers, medium vehicles and heavy vehicles.
Heavy, medium and light vehicles will have to continue along the Mumbai-Nashik Highway via Mankoli Naka and turn at Anjur Phata, cross the Ovali Flyover or use the Kasheli-Kalher route.
Public transport buses operated by ST, KDMT and TMT will board passengers at Rajnoli Naka and return via the highway, while other vehicles will have to take a U-turn.
No-Parking Zone In Bhiwandi
Parking will be prohibited along the procession route from Kotergate Masjid through Rafiq Nagar, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Chowk, Qubera Hotel, Patel Mohalla, the U-turn at Pajnapol Chowk, towards Mankoli Naka, Manta Hospital and Mama Bhanja Dargah before terminating at the procession ground.
Rabodi Traffic Division Advisory
Rabodi restrictions will apply from 12 pm to 10 pm on August 26.
Road Closures And Alternative Routes
Vehicular entry will be prohibited along the main route connecting KVLA Naka, Aksa Medical Chowk, NoorMasjid, Akashganga, Rabodi Tin Chhatri and Char Naka.
Vehicles arriving from KVLA Naka will have to turn via Meenatai Thackeray Chowk towards Old Rabodi Police Station Road.
Alternatively, traffic can turn left at Akashganga Chowk via Koliwada Chowk to reach Old Rabodi.
Kalyan And Vitthalwadi Restrictions
Kalyan Division – From 11 Am
All vehicle entry from Patripul towards APMC Market, Gurudev Hotel and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Chowk will be prohibited.
Vehicles will have to turn left at Patripul and proceed via Govindwadi Bypass.
Vitthalwadi Division – From 2 Pm
Traffic will be prohibited along the procession route covering Nehru Nagar in Ulhasnagar, Bus Stop Chowk, Old Bus Stop, Press Chowk, Hill Line Police Station Road, Netaji Chowk, Bhatia Chowk, Kurla Camp Road, Samtanagar Road and Kailash Colony.
On-street parking will be prohibited on both sides of these roads.
Emergency services, including police vehicles, fire brigade units and ambulances, will remain exempt from the traffic restrictions.
Motorists have been advised not to park on the main roads and to use authorised parking spaces on adjoining roads and alternative lanes.
Pune Traffic Restrictions
Pune Police will impose traffic restrictions and diversions on Wednesday as Eid-E-Milad processions pass through several parts of the city.
The main procession will begin at Manushah Masjid, 482 Nana Peth, and pass through Sant Kabir Chowk, AD Camp Chowk, Bharat Cinema, Padamji Police Chowki Chowk, Nishant Cinema, Bhagwandas Chawl, Chudaman Talim, Mufti Fauj Chowk, Sardar Patel Road, Qureshi Masjid, Jan Mohammed Street, Babajan Dargah, Charbawdi Chowki, Phulwala Galli, Centre Street Road, Bhopale Chowk, 15 August Chowk, M.G. Road, Mahamad Rafi Chowk, Mahavir Chowk, Centre Street Police Chowki Chowk, Sarbatwala Chowk, Quarter Gate, Sant Kabir Chowk, Nana Chavdi Chowk, Alpana Cinema, Hamzekhan Chowk, Govind Halwai Chowk and Subhanshah Dargah Chowk.
The procession will conclude at City Jama Masjid in Shukrawar Peth.
No-Parking Restrictions In Pune
Parking will not be permitted along the procession route or within 100 metres of the mouths of connecting roads and lanes.
Parking on both sides of the main procession route will remain prohibited while the procession is in progress.
Rasta Peth And Sant Kabir Chowk Diversions
Vehicles travelling from Rasta Peth Power House towards Sant Kabir Chowk will be diverted through Samarth Police Station and Quarter Gate.
Once the procession reaches Sant Kabir Chowk, vehicles from Quarter Gate will be diverted through Cycle Colony, Samarth Police Station, Rasta Peth, Power House, KEM Hospital and Apollo Cinema.
Nana Peth And Laxmi Road Diversion
Vehicles travelling from Nana Peth towards Laxmi Road will be diverted from Nana Chavdi Chowk through Rasta Peth and Power House. Once the procession reaches Padmaji Police Chowki Chowk, vehicles from Quarter Gate will be diverted towards Sant Kabir Chowk. When the procession turns into the Bharat Cinema lane from AD Camp Chowk, traffic between Padamji Police Chowki and AD Camp Chowk will be diverted towards Quarter Gate and the old Motor Stand.
Traffic between Padmaji Chowk and Nishant Cinema will be diverted near Camp High School. Vehicles travelling towards Chudaman Talim Chowk will be diverted through Pul Gate or the old Motor Stand.
MG Road And Camp Diversions
Traffic approaching MG Road from the Y Junction in Camp will be stopped and diverted towards Khane Maruti Chowk.
Traffic from ISKCON Temple Chowk towards the Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar statue and Arora Tower will also be stopped and diverted through alternative routes, depending on the situation, from 9 am.
Vehicles travelling from Mufti Fauj Chowk towards Qureshi Masjid will be diverted towards Chudaman Talim.
Traffic from Volga Chowk towards Mahamad Rafi Chowk will be diverted via East Street Road towards Indira Gandhi Chowk.
Vehicles from Mahavir Chowk towards Sarbatwala Chowk will be diverted via MG Road towards Naz Chowk.
Khadki Traffic Restrictions
A separate procession in Khadki will begin at Tikaram Chowk and proceed through DR Gandhi Chowk and Saral Juni Maharashtra Bank Chowk before concluding at Jama Masjid in Khadki Bazaar.
Traffic will be diverted progressively as the procession moves through the area.
Pimpri-Chinchwad Traffic Restrictions
Traffic restrictions will remain in force from noon to midnight on Wednesday across Pimpri, Nigdi and Chikhali.
Pimpri
Restrictions will cover Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Chowk, Pimpri Bridge, Morwadi Chowk, Nehrunagar and KSB Chowk.
Traffic approaching Ambedkar Chowk will be diverted through Mahavir Chowk, service roads and other connecting routes.
Vehicles approaching KSB Chowk from Nigdi will be diverted through the underpass towards Yashwantnagar Chowk, while traffic from Bhosari will be diverted through MIDC Colony Chowk.
Nigdi
Restrictions will be imposed around Bhakti-Shakti Chowk and Tilak Chowk.
Traffic will be diverted through Khandoba Mal Chowk, Durganagar, Thermex Chowk and other alternative routes.
Vehicles approaching Bhakti-Shakti Chowk will be diverted through service roads, while traffic travelling from Tilak Chowk towards Khandoba Mal Chowk will be routed through alternative roads.
Chikhali
Restrictions will affect Krishna Nagar Chowk, Chikhali Gaon Chowk, Jadhav Sarkar Chowk, Diamond Chowk, Pingle Chowk and Laxmi Chowk.
Traffic will be diverted through nearby internal roads and junctions.
Police have advised motorists not to park along procession routes and to use alternative roads. Vehicles involved in essential services will be exempted from the restrictions as required.
Deputy commissioners of police for traffic have issued separate notifications covering Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad.
Emergency Services Exempt
Emergency services will be allowed to operate despite the restrictions. Police vehicles, fire brigade vehicles and ambulances will be exempted from the traffic orders.
Citizens travelling through Bengaluru, Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Mumbai, Thane, Mumbra, Kalyan, Bhiwandi, Vitthalwadi and Ulhasnagar have been advised to plan their journeys in advance, avoid procession routes wherever possible, use designated alternative roads and cooperate with traffic personnel.
With processions expected to move through several major roads and junctions throughout the day, commuters are likely to face delays and temporary route changes until the gatherings conclude.
