Kantara mockery row: Ranveer Singh granted relief, directed to apologise

Actor Ranveer Singh has received major legal relief after the Karnataka High Court quashed an FIR filed against him over alleged mockery of a sacred ritual depicted in the film Kantara. The case stemmed from an incident at the International Film Festival of India, where Singh mimicked a “Daiva” performance associated with the Bhoota Kola tradition, triggering backlash and accusations of hurting religious sentiments.

Following the controversy, a complaint was registered in Bengaluru, prompting the actor to seek legal intervention. In its ruling, the High Court dismissed the case, offering Singh relief but also acknowledging the sensitivities involved. As part of the resolution, the court directed the actor to issue an apology and undertake a visit to the revered Chamundeshwari Temple as a gesture of respect.
