Kerala Chief Minister Decision Live Updates: Ten days after the Kerala Assembly election results were declared, the southern state may finally know the name of its Chief Minister.

The Congress, which won 63 of the 102 United Democratic Front (UDF) seats, is set to announce the name of the chief minister during the legislature party meeting in Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday, a party official said.

“As authorized by the CLP members in Kerala, the Congress high command has completed all discussions and the decision on the next CM of Kerala will be announced tomorrow,” Congress communications chief Jairam Ramesh said after the meeting between senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and party general secretary (organisation) KC Venugopal, who is one of the three strong contenders for the CM post.

The other two contenders are outgoing leader of opposition in the Kerala Assembly VD Satheesan and senior Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala. The meeting comes amid reports from Kerala that a large number of Congress workers have gathered at Satheesan’s house in Aluva and the party’s district offices.

Kerala CM Decision Live Updates: As suspense continues over who will be the next Chief Minister of Kerala even 10 days after the announcement of assembly election results, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday held a final round of discussions with party chief Mallikarjun Kharge.

The Congress leadership is unable to decide on a chief ministerial face after the United Democratic Front (UDF) won with a two-thirds majority in the recently concluded elections in the state.

Gandhi went to Kharge’s residence for the meeting, which lasted for about 40 minutes. No official statement was issued immediately after the meeting.

Gandhi had earlier met several Kerala leaders and about eight former state unit chiefs to ascertain the ground situation. (PTI)

The wait finally eased late in the evening when AICC general secretary Jairam Ramesh said in New Delhi that the Congress high command would announce its decision on Thursday.

AICC organization general secretary KC Venugopal, outgoing Kerala opposition leader Satheesan and senior party leader Chennithala are in the race for the top post following the victory of the Congress-led UDF in the April 9 elections.

Kerala CM announcement live updates: NSS general secretary G Sukumaran Nair on Wednesday said UDF alliance partners, including IUML, should not have interfered in the Kerala Chief Minister selection process and their interference led to the delay in the decision.

Nair claimed that not only the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), but other UDF alliance parties also interfered in the selection process, which was an internal matter of the Congress. He said that he should not have interfered or supported any leader under consideration for the post.

He said, “The delay in the decision by the central leadership of the Congress is due to this interference. If it had not happened, the decision would have come much earlier.”

Nair also claimed that there was some mystery behind the poster campaign in support of the three leaders – KC Venugopal, VD Satheesan and Ramesh Chennithala. (PTI)

According to the statement issued by KPCC chief Sunny Joseph on Wednesday, the Congress Legislature Party meeting will be held on May 14 at 1 pm.

The announcement came as the Congress high command indicated that the suspense over the next Chief Minister of Kerala will end on Thursday, almost 10 days after the assembly election results were declared.
