Liverpool forward Diogo Jota passed away in a car accident on Thursday, according to a report in Marca.
According to Marca, Jota, aged 28, and his brother Andre died while travelling in a vehicle in the province of Zamora and burst into flames.
His brother, Andre, was also a professional footballer with Penafiel, a Portuguese second-tier club.
Jota played a crucial role in Liverpool`s Premier League triumph last season. The 28-year-old also helped Portugal to beat Spain in the final of the Nations League in June.
In his career, he has represented F.C. Paços de Ferreira, Atlético Madrid, FC Porto, Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C., and Liverpool.
He had served Portugal at U-19, U-21, U-23 and senior team.
Jota signed a long-term deal with Liverpool on September 19, 2020. Five days later, he debuted in the English Football League Cup.
According to reports, Jota was recently married to his long-term partner, Rute Cardoso. The couple, who have three children, were seen happy on their wedding day, on June 22, 2025. He recently shared a post with his wife on his official social media handle. Taking to X:

Jota switched his team from Wolverhampton to Liverpool in 2020 for a whopping price of €44.7 million. Since then, he has represented Liverpool in 182 games and had scored 65 goals and 26 assists. With the Merseyside club, he has won a Premier League title, an FA Cup title, and a League Cup title.
Earlier, Atletico Madrid acquired his services for €7 million. The former Atletico Madrid, Porto and Wolverhampton Wanderers star scored nine goals in all competitions last season as Liverpool cruised to their 20th Premier League title.
