‘That’s not what I expected from the movie’

Opening up about her experience, Mrunal revealed she wasn’t aware of a major casting decision that directly impacted her character arc.Speaking to Prema, she said, “I didn’t know like, a very senior actor is going to play my husband. Because that just changes my… this is not what I expected from the movie. So, there I failed. Because there was a little bit of trust that was shaken. But you know what, I don’t have regrets.”For context, in Son of Sardaar 2, Mrunal plays Rabia Akhtar, while Chunky Panday portrays her estranged husband Danish. Ajay Devgn essays Jaswinder Singh Randhawa aka Jassi, who is married to Dimple, played by Neeru Bajwa. The narrative then sees Rabia and Jassi finding love amid their strained marriages.

‘Two important scenes were cut’

Mrunal also spoke about crucial emotional scenes that didn’t make it to the final cut, particularly one involving Roshni Walia, who plays her stepdaughter Saba.“I did not know two important scenes of mine would be edited on the table. Like, there’s this beautiful scene with me and Roshni. She’s actually my sister’s child and my sister dies in the movie, it’s just a narrative. And I give up my personal life for her betterment. She says, it’s better I don’t have a mother, I have you. And I pray that every girl gets a mother like you, even if you’ve not given birth to me. But the way you’ve taken care... that narrative was missing.”Despite her disappointment, the actor maintained that she shares a warm bond with the team.

Busy year ahead with multiple releases

Following Son of Sardaar 2, Mrunal has been seen in projects like Do Deewane Seher Mein and is now promoting Dacoit. She also has Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai and Pooja Meri Jaan in the pipeline.Directed by David Dhawan, Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai stars Varun Dhawan and Pooja Hegde in lead roles. The film’s first look, which featured AI-generated twin babies discussing their parentage, sparked mixed reactions online, with some even questioning its authenticity. The rom-com is slated for a theatrical release on June 3.
