NEW DELHI: Carolina Marin, one of badminton’s greatest players and the 2016 Rio Olympics gold medallist, has announced her retirement from professional badminton, bringing the curtain down on a remarkable career. At 32, Marin said her decision was largely due to recurring injuries, which made it too risky to continue competing. “Today I want to be direct. My path in professional badminton has ended, and therefore I will not participate in the European Championships of Huelva,” she said. She admitted she had hoped to play one final match but chose not to risk further damage. “I wanted us to see each other for the last time on a track, but I don’t want to put my body at risk for it. I said it many times, and I am consistent with my decision.” Looking back, she realised her final appearance had already happened at the Paris 2024 Olympics, where she was forced to retire mid-match due to a knee injury. “In the end, I did retire on a track, in Paris, in 2024, only then we did not know,” she said.Marin leaves behind an extraordinary legacy, including an Olympic gold medal, three World Championship titles, and multiple European crowns. She famously defeated P.V. Sindhu in the Rio 2016 final and became Spain’s first Olympic badminton champion.Though she won’t end her career on court in Huelva, the city still holds emotional value. “I wanted the road to end in Huelva, and so it will be. Not with the racket in my hand, but in the city where I was born, to close a circle of many years,” she said.Grateful for her journey, Marin thanked her supporters: “Thank you for never letting me fall, for being by my side, and for supporting me in the hardest moments. Thank you for your unconditional love.”“I leave my passion being very proud of everything I have achieved, but more than for the titles, for having earned the respect of the world of sport,” she added, while looking forward to a new chapter ahead.

Diljit Dosanjh shares article comparing Dhurandhar 2 with Punjab 95

Diljit Dosanjh’s film Punjab 95 has been stuck with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) for three years now. There is currently no update on the film’s release status. The film, directed by Honey Trehan, is based on the life of human rights defender Jaswant Singh Khalra. Amid this, Diljit Dosanjh on Wednesday shared an article that spoke about Sikh representation in movies while discussing Dhurandhar 2 and Punjab 95.

Diljit Dosanjh shares article about Punjab 95

Diljit shared the social media post of the article. He highlighted the part which read, “Diljit Dosanjh is celebrated when he does a patriotic film like Dhurandhar 2. But his biopic on human rights defender Jaswant Singh Khalra has been stuck with the CBFC for three years.”

The actor-singer simply shared the post without any comments.

What is Punjab 95 about?

Directed by Honey Trehan, the movie features Diljit Dosanjh as Khalra. Punjab ’95 has remained unreleased in India despite being completed several years ago. The film chronicles Khalra’s investigations into illegal cremations and enforced disappearances during Punjab’s counter-insurgency period of the 1990s. The CBFC has been demanding extreme cuts in the film, which the makers feel will hamper the movie`s plot.

In December last year, retired Punjab and Haryana High Court judge and human rights activist Ranjit Singh made a renewed appeal for the film to be released without any cuts. Singh, recently appointed chairman of the reconstituted Punjab Human Rights Organisation (PHRO), said the movie’s depiction of the custodial killing of Jaswant Singh Khalra is based on documented evidence and judicial findings, and is neither speculative nor exaggerated.

He said, “The film is very close to reality. It depicts a sequence of events that was not merely an allegation, but something that was clearly established through evidence. These are facts that need to be told. I see no objection to any part of the film. What it shows is real and supported by material already on record. In my view, Punjab ’95 must be released without any cuts.”

The film’s timeline
Early 2021: Film goes on floors.
Mid 2022: Principal photography wrapped.
December 2022: Submitted to the CBFC for certification.
2023–24: No certification or release date issued.
September 25, 2024: Mid-day reports CBFC suggests nearly 127 cuts.
January 2025: Overseas release announced, then cancelled days before release.
2025: Makers refuse cuts, say they will remove credits if altered.

Rinku Singh thanks UP government for appointing him as Regional Sports Minister

Indian batter Rinku Singh thanked Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and his government for appointing him a Regional Sports Officer on Wednesday.

X handle of Government of UP, shared a video in which the flamboyant left-hand batter thanked the Chief Minister and said, “I am deeply grateful from the bottom of my heart to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath ji for honouring me with a sum of Rs 3 crore and assigning me the responsibility of Regional Sports Officer.”

In the video, the 27-year-old batter also said that he couldn`t meet the Chief Minister due to his commitments with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and is expecting to meet him after the conclusion of the IPL 2026, and also collect his appointment letter from him.

Rinku rose to stardom by smashing Gujarat Titans` Yash Dayal during the IPL 2023 for five successive sixes in the final over during a tense chase of 200-odd runs for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), and since then, has become an Asian Games gold medal winner, Asia Cup winner and, most recently, the T20 World Cup winner with Men in Blue.

He has helped the India men`s team win several matches by playing the role of an explosive, six-hitting finisher down the order.

In 45 T20Is, Rinku has made 665 runs at an average of 39.11 and a strike rate of 155.73. He also has three half-centuries in the shortest format. Rinku has also represented India in a couple of ODIs. He has three T20Is and an ODI wicket under his name.

Rinku has also been named the vice-captain of KKR for the upcoming IPL 2026, taking on a new leadership role within the team.

He will serve as the deputy to Ajinkya Rahane, stepping into the vice-captaincy role previously held by Venkatesh Iyer, who was acquired by defending champions Royal Challengers Bangalore for Rs 7 crore ahead of the season.

Earlier on Wednesday, while speaking during the programme organised for the distribution of appointment letters and prize money to international medal-winning players on Wednesday, CM Yogi emphasised that Uttar Pradesh is the first state in the country to give priority to athletes in government services.

“UP is the first state in the country to give athletes priority in government service. So far, we have provided appointment letters to over 500 athletes for various police positions… For his performance in cricket and the Asian Games, Rinku Singh has been given an appointment letter as a Regional Sports Officer. He is already a part of a camp (KKR camp in the IPL), so he has gone there. Many other players have also got appointment letters here today,” he said.

Deutsche Bank GCC fuels AI push with incubator

MUMBAI: The Indian Global Capability Center (GCC) of Deutsche Bank is betting on a startup-style approach to accelerate AI adoption, with its in-house incubator at Deutsche India Pvt Ltd (DIPL) drawing 100 ideas within its first 100 days, reflecting what its leadership describes as an unusually high openness to technological change among the local workforce.Stefan Schaffer, MD & CEO of DIPL, said the India-based GCC has seen employees embrace AI-led transformation with far less resistance than in many mature markets. He attributed this to a broader cultural association of change with progress, shaped by rapid digital adoption in India, including platforms such as UPI. He said that this adaptability is proving valuable for a 150-year-old institution navigating structural shifts.DIPL, which employs over 20,000 people across Pune, Bengaluru, Jaipur and Mumbai, is driving its AI push through a programme called “AI Forward”, which combines top-down investment with bottom-up participation. A key pillar is the incubator, modelled on startup ecosystems, where employees can pitch ideas directly to leadership and refine them with expert input. Complementing this is a large-scale training effort that has already covered 20,000 employees on large language models and responsible AI usage, alongside a “Catalyst” initiative that embeds specialists within teams to prototype solutions in live environments. The shift towards AI is part of a broader strategic reset at Deutsche Bank’s technology operations. Having already rebalanced its workforce mix from 30% internal staff to 70%, and increased the share of engineers to 70%, the bank is now targeting deeper ownership from its GCCs. Under a new “70-50-30” framework, it aims to locate 50% of portfolio owners and 30% of senior leadership roles within its technology centres, including India, to ensure end-to-end accountability.Schaffer said that while AI is becoming embedded in mainstream operations, core enterprise platforms will remain critical. Instead of replacing foundational systems, AI is expected to transform the “last mile” of configuration, enabling faster and more flexible development while retaining the structural integrity required in a regulated banking environment.

When and where to watch Mardaani 3 on OTT

Mardaani 3 will stream on Netflix from March 27. The official Netflix India account made the announcement on social media on Thursday by posting a picture of Rani from the film and writing, “Criminals ke bure din shuru. Sherni aa rahi hai shikaar karne (Bad days have begun for criminals. The tigress will come to hunt). Watch Mardaani 3, out 27 March, on Netflix.”

The film received mixed reviews upon its release, and those who liked it commented with heart emojis. One person wrote, “Have got my weekend watch, kudos netflix.” Another wrote, “Great,” with thumbs-up emojis. Then there were those who did not like the film as much as the previous instalments.

“Mid sequel seriously, nothing new to offer, just that same kind of social message repetitive, completely becamed average due to underwhelming second half completely,” commented one person on Instagram. “Pehle Al Pacino ki movies add karle (First add Al Pacino’s movies),” commented another on X (formerly Twitter). “Why I am seeking priyanka mohan face here,” wrote one, joking that Rani looked like Priyanka in the poster.

About Mardaani 3

Mardaani 3 is directed by Abhiraj Minawala and produced by Aditya Chopra under Yash Raj Films. It is a sequel to Mardaani 2, which was released in 2019. Janki Bodiwala and Mallika Prasad join Rani in the third film. The film follows police officer Shivani Shivaji Roy as she investigates the case of 93 young girls who have gone missing under mysterious circumstances in just three months.

Mardaani 3 was released in theatres on January 30 and collected ₹76.20 crore worldwide, according to Sacnilk. Mardaani 2 had collected ₹67 crore worldwide while the first film, Mardaani, brought in ₹59.30 crore when it was released in 2014. It received mixed reviews upon its release for not being as effective as the previous two films.

“Mardaani 3 may not reinvent the franchise, but it reinforces why it matters. Even when it treads familiar ground and doesn’t quite land all its twists, the film remains anchored by the sheer authority of Rani Mukerji’s Shivani, a screen presence that still cuts through noise,” reads Hindustan Times’ review of the film.

'Prove me wrong': Ex-India batter throws challenge to Ajinkya Rahane ahead of IPL 2026

Former India batter Aakash Chopra believes Ajinkya Rahane has a significant point to prove heading into IPL 2026, especially in addressing long-standing doubts about his game beyond the powerplay.Rahane led Kolkata Knight Riders from the front with the bat in IPL 2025, finishing as their top run-scorer. He amassed 390 runs in 12 innings at a strike rate of 147.72. Despite those numbers, questions persisted around his ability to maintain scoring momentum once the field restrictions were lifted, particularly against spin, which many felt slowed KKR down at crucial stages.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Chopra admitted he has been among those who questioned Rahane’s effectiveness after the powerplay. However, he also sees the upcoming season as a chance for the KKR skipper to silence those criticisms.“Opportunities are plenty. Maybe Ajinkya Rahane, because I am one of those guys who have been slightly critical that he will have to be played in the powerplay as his role becomes extremely limited after that, but you can prove me wrong,” Chopra said.“It’s an opportunity. Not that you need to prove me wrong. Why would you even bother? However, if you score a lot of runs in the powerplay and after that as well, it’s a great opportunity for you,” he added.Chopra further pointed out the narrative surrounding KKR’s dependence on Gautam Gambhir, with some suggesting the franchise struggles to succeed without his influence as either a player or mentor. He believes Rahane now has the platform to counter that perception by guiding the team to a title. In the same discussion, Chopra highlighted the growing importance of Rinku Singh within the setup. Currently serving as vice-captain, Rinku could emerge as a leadership contender if he delivers consistently this season.“Rinku Singh is the vice-captain. Could be a potential captain by the next season. So there could be a huge role for him. He is always made to bat down the order. He might get the opportunity to bat slightly up the order this time, and he might flourish,” Chopra said.Chopra also turned his attention to Varun Chakaravarthy, stating that IPL 2026 offers him a chance to rediscover his wicket-taking rhythm.“It’s time for Varun Chakaravarthy to make people acknowledge his superiority once again because the last four matches in the World Cup were extremely cold. He has to come back to his wicket-taking self,” he observed.Varun ended the T20 World Cup 2026 as the joint-highest wicket-taker with 14 wickets in nine innings at an economy rate of 9.25. While he began the tournament strongly with nine wickets in India’s first four matches, his impact dipped later, managing just five scalps in the remaining games while conceding runs at a higher rate.

Saurabh Shukla: I have never had a personal PR running behind me

For actor Saurabh Shukla, who has been a part of the industry for more than two decades now, the idea of success has never been tied to expensive cars and more, a visible symbol that often dominates conversations around actors today. In an industry where perception can sometimes overshadow performance, he draws a clear, almost old-school distinction between personal choices and professional worth, insisting that the two should never be confused.

Saurabh Shukla
Saurabh Shukla

While he admits that he enjoys the finer things in life, he says they shouldn’t define him as an actor. “I love driving, I enjoy cars. I have a taste for expensive cars,” he says. “But I prefer not showing all that. I prefer to be known for my work, my talent. Whether I drive a certain car or not, whether I show it or don’t show it, that is not going to decide how good an actor I am. These are completely separate things,” he explains, pushing back against the growing tendency to equate lifestyle with success. “If you start believing that these things define you, then there is a problem. They are just personal choices, nothing more.”

Further elaborating his thoughts, the actor addresses the industry’s increasing dependence on PR, hype culture, and image-building. The 63-year-old does not deny its relevance; in fact, he acknowledges it as an essential part of the ecosystem but also asserts its limitations.

“Dekhiye, mai bina PR ke chalta hoon. Itne salon mei mera koi PR nahi raha hai, meri toh bathroom ki tilon ke bare mei koi charcha nahi kar raha, aur kare bhi kyu.” He adds, “PR is important, it is a part of the strategy. It helps your work reach people, it helps people know that something is coming. But it cannot replace the work itself. You cannot build yourself only on hype, because eventually the audience is not staying for that. They stay for what you do on screen.”

Unlike many of his contemporaries navigating a hyper-visible space, Shukla, who recently directed Jab Khuli Kitab, says he has largely stayed away from a constant, personality-driven PR machinery. “In my entire career, I have never had a personal PR running behind me all the time. It was always project to project,” he shares. “But it never stopped me. People still know me, they connect with my work. That has always been enough and that’s how it should be,” he ends.

Dhurandhar actor Vivek Sinha reveals getting 'I love you' messages from Pakistan: 'Those 14 seconds of footage made me feel like a star'
Dhurandhar actor Vivek Sinha recently spoke about the overwhelming response to his performance, his unconventional journey, and the life lessons that shaped him. From going viral for his intense role to receiving love—even from across the border—the actor didn’t hold back.

Dhurandhar actor Vivek Sinha recently spoke about the overwhelming response to his performance, his unconventional journey, and the life lessons that shaped him. From going viral for his intense role to receiving love—even from across the border—the actor didn’t hold back.

‘I even got love from Pakistan’

Talking about the reactions pouring in on social media, Vivek shared how audiences are both furious at his character and impressed by his performance.“Instagram has almost 2,000 comments. I’m actually enjoying it… everyone is saying that watching me makes them so angry they feel like jumping into the screen and hitting me. But at the same time, they’re saying my acting is very good… that I made it feel very real,” he told Zee News.He added that while many comments praise his work, some can get extreme. “Some people are even writing that they’ll come to Pakistan and hit me… so I had to clarify, ‘Brother, I’m not Pakistani—I’m Indian. I’m from Bijnor, from Dhampur.’”Interestingly, Vivek revealed that he has also been receiving appreciation from Pakistan.“I’ve received a lot of messages from Pakistan saying, ‘Sir, I love you from Pakistan.’ I told them, wait… we’ll talk later,” he said with a laugh, adding that audiences everywhere are connecting with his performance.

A tough childhood and a single mother’s strength

Opening up about his personal life, Vivek spoke emotionally about losing his father at a young age.“My luck was such… I was just six years old when my father passed away. My mother raised me as a single parent… and I never felt a lack of anything in life,” he said.He credited his confidence and positivity to his mother’s upbringing. “The confidence and happiness I have in life today… it’s all because of her.”

From Bijnor to theatre to films

Vivek’s journey into acting wasn’t planned. Coming from a small town in Bijnor, he followed a conventional path before discovering theatre.“My life was completely normal… I studied, got a job… then someone suggested I try acting. I didn’t even know what theatre was,” he recalled. His first experience in theatre was far from glamorous. “I got a role called ‘the fourth villager.’ I had just one line in the entire script—‘Sir, the wells have dried up.’ I got bored in three days,” he laughed. But things changed when he landed a better role and began performing on stage. “The first time I performed on stage, people appreciated me… that’s where my journey really began.”

The big break and Dhurandhar moment

After years in theatre and smaller roles—including a brief appearance in PK—Vivek says Dhurandhar changed everything.“My life changed completely… it went far beyond what I had ever expected,” he said.He also shared how even a short appearance in the trailer made a huge impact. “Those 14 seconds of footage made me feel like a star… people’s blood was boiling after watching it,” he added.Talking about performing the hijacking scene, Vivek said, “My character is based on a real-life hijacker—provoking, confident, and dangerous. We studied references deeply. The idea was to show how terrifying the situation was. When people didn’t respond to “Bharat Mata Ki Jai,” it showed fear—that’s what we wanted to portray.”Sharing his experience of working with the Dhurandhar team, he added, “Incredible. No ego at all. Everyone—from the director to actors like R Madhavan—was extremely supportive. Madhavan even suggested I perform with “snake-like eyes” for one scene. That became the final take.”

‘I never stressed about work’

Despite the ups and downs, Vivek maintains he never chased work desperately.“I never stressed about getting work. I only chose what felt right. Even if there was a six-month gap, I never felt anxious,” he said.“I never felt even 1% depressed. I stayed positive… and maybe this is the result of that.”

On controversy and cinema reflecting reality

Addressing debates around films like PK and Dhurandhar, Vivek said cinema often mirrors society.“Films are a reflection of society. We show what is happening around us. Some people get hurt, but many people connect with it deeply,” he explained.
