Stock market today: Nifty50 and BSE Sensex continued their rally on Wednesday rising almost 1% in opening trade. While Nifty50 went above 23,100, BSE Sensex rose over 700 points. At 9:16 AM, Nifty50 was trading at 23,126.65, up 214 points or 0.94%. These positive geopolitical developments have reflected a sharp decline in Brent crude to around $98. The US 10-year yield also has declined. Gold has recovered. If this positive development sustains, there is room for a sharp rebound in the market. But if the recovery is to sustain FIIs should stop their big sustained selling, which, in turn, will require stability in the rupee. Yesterday’s 399 point recovery in the Nifty was caused more by short covering. Baranica Elangovan breaks national record with 4.22m in pole vault

Tamil Nadu`s 29-year-old international pole vaulter Baranica Elangovan was the cynosure of all eyes on the opening day of the first edition of the National Indoor Athletics Championships at Indoor Stadium on Tuesday. Baranica raised the bar to 4.22m to set a national record in the women`s pole vault, according to a release.

The previous national record of 4.21m was set by Rosy Meena Paulraj in 2022 in Bengaluru.

“It`s good day for me to enter my name in the record books. I`ve been trying hard to cross 4.20m in the past but Tuesday turned out to be a lucky day for me,” Baranica said in post-competition interaction.

She attempted to further raise the bat to 4.25m but wasn`t successful in clearing the height.

Away from the pole vault arena, there was an exciting duel in men`s long jump between Praveen Chithravel of Tamil Nadu representing JSW and Odisha`s Sarun Payasingh.

But it was 25-year-old Payasingh who clinched the gold medal in the men`s long jump with a distance of 7.80m, a personal best.

Odisha`s newly crowned champion was excited to have won gold in front of the home crowd.

“My main focus here at the National Indoor competition was to improve my personal best. I`m happy to have successfully achieved my goal,” the football turned long jumper said in the post-competition interaction.

Payasingh started with no mark but sailed to 7.80m in the second attempt, which earned him gold. The eventual winner had no marks on his third and fourth attempts. His fifth jump was 7.69m, and his last jump was 7.79m. Payasingh said he recently changed his jumping technique, which paid dividends. “I`m on the right track,” Payasingh said.

Payasingh`s previous best of 7.78m was recorded recently at Indian Open Jumps Competition in Bengaluru.

The main focus in the men`s long jump was on Tamil Nadu`s international athlete Praveen Chithravel. The national record holder in the triple jump was competing here in the long jump to gain valuable indoor experience. “It was a good experience for me here in Bhubaneswar,” Chithravel added.

Chithravel`s opening jump was 7.32m. He recorded 7.78m in his second jump, and his third jump was 7.55m.

Chithravel`s main goal is the upcoming 29th National Senior Athletics Federation Competition in Ranchi, scheduled to be held between May 22 and 25. The competition in Ranchi assumes significance as its qualification event for the July 23 to August 2 Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

Earlier, Odisha`s Sports and Youth Services Minister Suraj Suryabanshi inaugurated the competition, saying the first National Indoor Athletics Championships here at Bhubaneswar`s Kalinga Stadium was a historic chapter in Indian athletics. “Hosting the 2028 World Athletics Indoor Championships in Bhubaneswar will further reaffirm Odisha as the Sports Capital of India,” he added.

On Tuesday, Netflix unveiled a first-look teaser for the fifth season of the series, which is based on Julia Quinn`s romance novels about the love lives of the eight siblings in the titular Bridgerton family, and announced production had begun in the UK on the eight-episode season. 

“The fifth season of Bridgerton spotlights introverted middle daughter Francesca (Hannah Dodd). Two years after losing her beloved husband John, Fran decides to reenter the marriage mart for practical reasons. Kalia was reportedly returning home from work around 11:30 pm when her vehicle crashed into a divider, which led the car to overturn. The entire incident has been captured on CCTV, and the footage is now going viral on social media.

Chaos soon erupted after the car overturned and the local residents immediately rushed to the vehicle and pulled Kalia out. She was immediately taken to the private hospital, where the doctors examined her and pronounced her dead.

According to an NDTV report, Harshil Kalia sustained severe head injuries after her car crashed into the divider and flipped on its side. The doctors confirmed that the actor sustained several critical injuries to her head, resulting in her death.

The police have initiated an investigation to find the exact cause of the accident. They are trying to trace all the possibilities that led to the crash, specifically whether the vehicle was speeding or if another vehicle attempted to overtake it. The doctors at the hospital conducted a post-mortem, and after examination, the cops handed over Harshil`s body to the family members.

Who is Aryaman Birla?

Aryaman, son of billionaire industrialist Kumar Mangalam Birla, had once pursued a professional cricketing career before transitioning into business leadership.

At 17, Aryaman left Mumbai to pursue opportunities in Madhya Pradesh cricket, having earlier gained exposure in England with West Hampstead Cricket Club and the London Schools Cricket Association under former Middlesex cricketer Paul Weekes.

His domestic breakthrough came in 2017 with his Ranji Trophy debut. A year earlier, he had impressed in the CK Nayudu Trophy, topping the run charts with 602 runs at an average of 75.25, including three centuries in nine innings.

Across nine first-class matches—eight of them in the 2018-19 Ranji Trophy—Aryaman showed glimpses of promise, including a gritty maiden century against Bengal at Eden Gardens that helped Madhya Pradesh secure a draw. During his stint, he shared the dressing room with now RCB skipper Rajat Patidar and Venkatesh Iyer, who has been freshly acquired by the franchise.

He was picked by Rajasthan Royals in 2018 but did not feature in a game across two seasons. In December 2019, at the age of 22, Aryaman announced an indefinite break from cricket, citing severe anxiety related to the sport.

Shift to business—and back to cricket

Following his break from cricket, Aryaman moved into the corporate world, gradually taking on leadership roles within the Aditya Birla Group. He holds an MBA (Honours) from Harvard Business School, a Master’s in Global Finance from Bayes Business School, and a Commerce degree from the University of Mumbai.

He currently serves on the board of the Aditya Birla Management Corporation and holds directorship roles in key group companies, including Grasim Industries and Aditya Birla Fashion & Retail.

Now, seven years after stepping away from professional cricket, Aryaman returns to the sport in a leadership capacity.

“It is a privilege to come together in this partnership to shape the next phase of growth for RCB,” he said in a statement. “Together, we will continue to Play Bold, on the pitch, in the community, and for the fans who make RCB what it is.”
