At least nine Palestinians have been injured as Israeli settlers rampaged through towns and villages in the occupied West Bank for a second night in a row.
A 45-year-old man was shot in the foot late on Sunday during a confrontation with Israeli settlers in Deir al-Hatab, east of Nablus, the Wafa news agency reported.

The Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) reported that a 47-year-old Palestinian man was attacked by settlers in Jabal al-Arma in Beita, while others were beaten.
Earlier, Israeli settlers set fire to homes and cars in two areas south of Jenin and vandalised property across the occupied West Bank.
Simultaneous attacks took place on Saturday night in at least six communities, including the villages of Silat ad-Dhahr and al-Fandaqumiya, both near Jenin; in Jalud and Salfit, both south of Nablus; and in the agricultural regions of Masafer Yatta and the Jordan Valley.
The Palestinian news agency Wafa reported that homes and cars were set ablaze, Palestinians were pepper-sprayed, and at least five people were wounded in the assaults, which took place during the Eid al-Fitr holiday marking the end of Ramadan.
Sunday night’s attacks came after settlers in the illegal Israeli settlement of Elon Moreh held a funeral for 18-year-old Yehuda Sherman, who was killed in a collision with a Palestinian vehicle in an area north of the villages attacked.
Israeli police said they were investigating the settlers’ claims that the collision was deliberate.
The Israeli government is pressing ahead with new illegal settlements in the occupied West Bank, with attention shifted to the US-Israel war on Iran.
According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, 25 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli settlers and soldiers so far this year.
Israel’s security cabinet last month ratified a series of decisions pushed by Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich and Defence Minister Israel Katz, enabling Israel to claim large areas of the occupied West Bank as “state property” if Palestinians cannot prove ownership.
The Palestinian presidency condemned the decision in a statement, calling it a “grave escalation and a flagrant violation of international law” that amounts to “de facto annexation”.
Amnesty International said the expansion of illegal settlements and state-backed settler violence in the occupied Palestinian territory were “a direct indictment of the international community’s catastrophic failure to take decisive action”.
The International Court of Justice (ICJ) ruled in 2024 that Israel’s continued presence in the occupied Palestinian territory is unlawful and should come to an end “as rapidly as possible”.
The judges pointed to a wide list of policies, including the building and expansion of Israeli settlements in the West Bank and occupied East Jerusalem, use of the area’s natural resources, the annexation and imposition of permanent control over lands and discriminatory policies against Palestinians – all of which it said violated international law.
One of India’s top chess stars, Koneru Humpy, has withdrawn from the upcoming FIDE Women’s Candidates Tournament in Cyprus. Her decision comes against the backdrop of security concerns in West Asia, where tensions have escalated following Israel’s attack on Iran.
Humpy had earlier been critical of the tournament’s venue choice, stating that it was not possible to focus on chess with bomb sirens going off. The tournament, scheduled to begin in Paphos on Saturday, March 28, will determine the challenger for the women’s world championship crown currently held by Ju Wenjun.
Humpy, a two-time Women’s World Rapid Champion, was among the leading contenders but opted out despite assurances from organisers.
“After deep reflection, I have taken the difficult decision to withdraw from the FIDE Women’s Candidates Tournament,” Humpy said in a statement on X.
“No event, no matter how important, can come before personal safety and well-being. Despite the assurances provided, I do not feel fully secure under the current circumstances. This is a painful but necessary decision, and I stand by it,” she added.
Following Humpy’s exit, Ukraine’s Anna Muzychuk has been named as her replacement. The move was confirmed by FIDE, which stated that the spot was offered to the next highest finisher in the Women’s Events Series 2024–25.
Muzychuk, a former Women’s World Rapid champion and two-time World Blitz champion, now joins the field for the high-stakes tournament.
Humpy’s decision could also attract a fine of 10,000 Euros under tournament regulations, though FIDE is yet to take a call on the matter.
The safety concerns are not limited to Humpy alone. American Grandmaster Hikaru Nakamura also flagged issues, pointing to recent power outages in parts of Cyprus in the lead-up to the event.
“It’s not a good sign when power goes out completely in parts of Cyprus and doesn’t come back for an extended period of time,” Nakamura wrote on Sunday.
Humpy’s withdrawal is a setback for India’s campaign, with R Praggnanandhaa, R Vaishali and Divya Deshmukh among the other Indian participants in the prestigious tournament.
NEW DELHI: The Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR), a body under the Union commerce ministry, has recommended the imposition of anti-dumping duties on Chinese viscose rayon filament yarn (above 75 deniers)—a widely used man-made textile fibre, according to a government notification issued on Monday.The proposed duties include $386 per metric tonne for Xinxiang Chemical Fibre Co Ltd, $667 for Jilin Chemical Fiber Co., and $518 for Yibin Hiest Fibre Limited Corporation and related exporters. Other producers would face a duty of $1,071 per metric tonne, the notification stated.The move comes days after the DGTR initiated an anti-dumping investigation into imports of ethyl chloroformate from China. Haryana Police removes song links from social media
According to officials, a total of 857 links have been removed so far, including 154 videos from YouTube and 703 reels from Instagram. The police stated that the action followed notices sent to social media platforms, instructing them to remove all versions of the song, including re-uploads and short clips.
Haryana Director General of Police Ajay Singhal emphasised that any content undermining the dignity of women and minors will not be tolerated in the state. In such cases, the concerned social media accounts may be blocked or restricted, and repeat offenders will be booked under stringent legal provisions.
Officials have also warned social media users against sharing or creating content featuring the banned song. Additional Director General of Police Shibas Kabiraj stated that strict legal action will be taken against violators. Social media accounts engaged in such activity may be blocked, and repeat offenders could face severe legal consequences.
The case is currently under investigation following the registration of an FIR at the Cyber Police Station, Sector-20, Panchkula. Police teams are closely monitoring online activity linked to the song and identifying individuals involved in sharing it.

Live Your City organized Candlelight Open Air: Mehfil-e-Sufi, which featured Indian classical music performances by Megha Ravut on sitar, Makarand Sanan on percussion and Ashwin Krishnan on keyboard. Let’s take a detailed look at this format and what it means for live music shows for Indian audiences.

The trio gave instrumental renditions of classics like Mast Qalandar, Yeh Jo Halka Halka Suroor Hai, Khwaja Mere Khwaja, Kun Faaya Kun and Chhap Tilak Sanson Ki Mala. The compositions included compositions by music stalwarts such as AR Rahman and Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, reinterpreted through the medium of sitar, percussion and keyboards.
The atmosphere was captivating and awe-inspiring. In the serene darkness, with the shadow of the fort in the background, flickering electric candles set the ambiance, lining the grand entrance, extending all the way to the lawn, and surrounding the stage and musicians as if they were performing.
Unlike traditional concerts, whether modern or classical, which are usually dominated by bright lights in a more high-energy setting with floodlights, spotlights and strobe effects, the warm light settings here feel softer and closer to the heart, where the music becomes larger than life against the backdrop of the historical monument.

Typically, live music shows are defined by scale and high-octane energy, but this format trades that scale for a new sense of intimacy between musicians and audience, allowing a new type of immersion to emerge.
This format of live musical shows, called candlelight concerts, has recently entered India. HT Lifestyle spoke to the organizers and artists to better understand what this new experience is all about, what gap it fills in live music today, and how the setting and sound shape this novel performance.
What is a candlelight concert and how does it change the live music experience?

Candlelight concerts have been present globally for some time and have recently entered India.
Pranjal Begawani, Candlelight Team Lead – India & Thailand (FEVER), sharing its growth trajectory and the need behind it, said, “Candlelight enters India in June 2024. “Candlelight emerged from the need to provide audiences a different way to experience live classical music.”
There is a difference in how live music is experienced today, with a greater focus on loud grandeur and spectacle. Candlelight concerts attempt to bridge this gap by creating a quieter and more personal atmosphere. This was evident during the Mehfil-e-Sufi performance, where the lead musician, Megha Ravut, and the ensemble blurred the boundary between the performers and the audience.The close seating allowed for a fair amount of interaction, allowing the audience to sing along, clap and become part of the sensory experience surrounded by a sea of flickering candles and historical monuments.
Now, in a traditional concert or show, while the energy is undoubtedly electrifying and heart-pounding, scale brings many challenges and distractions.From standing on tiptoe to catch a glimpse of the artist to aggressively elbowing your way through the packed crowd to get a spot, it can all seem a little overwhelming.Add to this the loud sound systems, the bright lights and seeing the artist from a distance and only on the big screen, you just listen to the music, maybe stop midway through it, rather than experiencing it.
Sharing some of the characteristics of this format, and how it differs, Pranjal elaborated, “This format focuses on experience rather than scale, bringing live music to unique, historically and culturally significant venues and presenting it by candlelight for smaller audiences.”
To add more points, this format makes classical music more palatable to younger audiences because it offers a whole, sensory-new experience. Pranjal revealed how much of the audience is young: “Today, over 70% of our audience is Gen Z and Millennials.”
Primarily instrumental, these shows reinterpret classical and contemporary music, and as Pranjal reiterated, they do so in a more ‘personal way’ while keeping the music larger than life; This time, the grandeur and grandeur is filled with the quiet grandeur of history, which is present within the walls of the monuments themselves.
The format also provides a platform for Indian artists and instrumentalists to showcase their art to a new audience.
The process of bringing an epic composition to life
At the candlelight Mehfil-e Sufi, the artistes spoke about the nuances of bringing powerful compositions to life through a unique interpretation on sitar, keyboard and percussion.
How does such a serene setting affect the way artists present their music?
We asked Megha Ravut, who leads the sitar ensemble, how performing in such a serene, mesmerizing environment changes her musical presentation.
He admitted that the candlelight vigil at Purana Qila almost felt like ‘stepping into a different time’. Thrown light on As to why a candlelight concert feels so personal, he said, “Without vocals, the music had to carry the entire emotional narrative, and on a Sufi night, it naturally became more engrossing and meditative – almost like a conversation with space.“
As mentioned earlier about the blurred lines between artist and audience, Megha also observed that the experience felt as if the audience and artist were ‘breathing together.’ This way the music is felt collectively, creating a bond in that moment.

How was the soundscape shaped in this format?
We asked percussionist Makrand Sanon, who wields a wide range of drums, cymbals and hand percussion, how he ensures that, despite the inherently loud and dynamic nature of his instruments, the soundscape remains associated with a quiet, reflective atmosphere, avoiding any sense of dominance that might go against the nature of the intimate setting.
Sanon explained in detail what this involves, “It’s really more about listening than playing. In a candlelit, mirrored setting, I naturally lean towards a softer, more textural approach – letting the rhythm breathe rather than pushing it too forcefully.”
The confrontational approach in a candlelight setting is not about rhythm or volume; It’s about responding to the melody. The percussionist described his playing as ‘flowing’, almost as if it was weaving around the raga rather than sitting on top of it, creating this gentle, intense pulse.
“The percussion doesn’t dominate but quietly deepens the mood, almost like an undercurrent that you feel more than hear,” Sanon explains, emphasizing how percussion can help heighten the emotional depth of these quiet performances.

How did originally vocal compositions become instrumental?
Ashwin Krishnan on keyboards was asked how the compositions are presented instrumentally while maintaining their emotional depth and offering a fresh reimagining.
To this he replied, “The idea is to treat the original composition as a starting point rather than as something definitive.” This means that the original songs are treated as an outline, and the musicians creatively figure out how to add certain nuances to create a fresh rendition. When they are presented instrumentally, subtle nuances are added.
Most importantly, without any lyrics to guide the narrative, Ashwin believed that harmonies here function as a separate language, yet familiar and understandable. ““Since the lyrics aren’t there, you start to reinterpret the emotional arc through harmonies, voices and subtle variations – almost like telling the same story in a different language,” he said.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi on Sunday responded to allegations made by former Pakistan white-ball head coach Gary Kirsten, who had earlier cited “interference” and a toxic work culture as reasons behind his abrupt exit in 2024.

Kirsten, who famously guided India to the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup title, was appointed Pakistan’s white-ball coach in April 2024 but stepped down just six months into the role.
Speaking to talkSPORT Cricket over the weekend, the South African opened up on the challenges he faced during his short stint, pointing to constant external interference from the board.
“The thing that surprised me more than anything was the level of interference. I don’t think I have ever seen it at that level before,” Kirsten said. “It is quite difficult for a coach to come and formulate a way that you can work with the players when there is just this constant noise from the outside.”
Kirsten also criticised how coaches are treated by the PCB, saying they are often the first to be blamed when the team performs poorly. He felt decisions were taken too quickly against the coaching staff rather than addressing deeper issues within the system.

“I didn’t have many interactions with Gary Kirsten, so it would be better if those people who were co-ordinating things with him and involved regularly with him responded in detail to his allegations,” Naqvi said.
Despite these concerns, Kirsten said he still enjoyed working with the players and had a good connection with them.

Born in 1971 in Los Angeles as Nicholas Brendon Schultz, he originally aimed to become a professional baseball player before pursuing acting to manage his stutter. He later became a spokesperson for the Stuttering Foundation of America during Buffy`s peak popularity.
Brendon`s portrayal of Xander Harris helped redefine the “nerd” archetype in American pop culture. Speaking on the series` 20th anniversary, he recalled, “It`s just a bunch of dudes who say, `Man, you got me laid a lot in high school. You made it cool to be a nerd and awkward and funny.` I wonder how many babies are out there because Xander got people laid.”
