Reflect on FY25 and plan for FY26 and beyond| Business News

The financial year-end is a good time to reflect on what worked well this year and what did not go as planned. It is also a good time to look ahead and plan for the upcoming financial year and beyond. In this article, we will understand how an individual can conduct an annual review of their comprehensive financial planning, which includes reflecting on the past financial year and planning for the upcoming financial year.

It is also a good time to look ahead and plan for the upcoming financial year and beyond.
It is also a good time to look ahead and plan for the upcoming financial year and beyond.

Net worth and cash flow statement

You can start by preparing two financial statements: Net worth and cash flow as of FY 2025. A net worth statement lists all the assets that you own and the liabilities that you owe others. Assets can include a house, other real estate, a vehicle, gold, shares, mutual funds, bank deposits and any other financial investments and physical belongings. The liabilities can include a home loan, a vehicle loan, personal loans, outstanding credit card balances, and any other amounts you have to pay to financial institutions and anyone else.

Your net worth will be the difference between the value of your assets and liabilities. If your net worth is positive, it is good. You should work towards increasing it further. If your net worth is negative, you need to focus on making it positive.

A monthly cash flow statement lists all cash inflows and cash outflows for a month. Cash inflows can include income from salary, business income, rent received, interest received, dividends, and other sources. Cash outflows include all your regular and ad hoc expenses. Add all cash inflows and then deduct the total of all cash outflows.

If your net cash flows are positive, it means you are earning more than you are spending. The surplus can be invested towards financial goals. If your cash flows are negative, it means you are spending more than you are earning. You should focus on either reducing your expenses, increasing your income or both.

Evaluate your emergency fund and insurance

The next step is to evaluate your emergency fund. Depending on your financial situation and other factors, the emergency fund must be equivalent to 3 to 6 months of expenses. Check whether your emergency fund has an adequate balance. If you withdrew any amount during the year, you should replenish it.

Evaluate your life insurance coverage to check whether it is adequate. During the financial year, were there any major events, such as taking a home loan, getting married, or starting a family, etc.? If yes, check whether you need to increase your life insurance cover and proceed accordingly.

Health insurance for all family members is essential. Evaluate whether you have sufficient health insurance cover or whether there is a need to increase it and proceed accordingly.

Budgeting

It is always a good idea to follow a monthly budgeting system. It helps you allocate your income towards your expenses, savings, and investments. There are various budgeting methods that you can choose from. For example, the 50:30:20 budgeting system helps you allocate 50% of your income to needs (essential expenses), 30% to wants (discretionary expenses), and 20% to savings and investments.

The 50:30:20 budgeting helps you maintain a balance between non-negotiable spends, discretionary spends towards enjoying life, and investing towards your financial goals. Evaluate whether you can increase your savings and investments beyond the 20% rate. The higher the allocation to financial goals, the faster you can achieve them.

Tax planning

At the start of the financial year FY 2026-27, you will receive communication from your HR or Finance Team to make investment declarations for saving tax. Depending on whether you are in the Old Tax Regime or New Tax Regime, you must do your tax planning for FY 2026-27 and accordingly make declarations. Consult a Tax Expert to help you with your tax planning for the financial year ahead.

Loan payments

Do you have outstanding balances on credit cards, a home loan, or any other loans? Make a list with details such as the outstanding amount for each loan, the EMI amount, remaining tenure, etc. It will give you a complete picture of your overall debt situation.

Any credit card outstanding carried forward to the next billing cycle must be prioritised for repayment. Banks usually charge up to 3.75% interest per month on the credit card balance carried forward beyond the due date. Make sure you have a plan in place to make timely EMI payments for all existing loans. For pre-payments over and above the regular EMI, prioritise loans with the highest interest rate.

If you have a home loan, check whether you would like to make a partial pre-payment and how much. Accordingly, plan to set aside money and make the pre-payment at the appropriate time.

Financial goals

Evaluate your short-term, medium-term, and long-term financial goals. Check the progress you have made and whether you are on track to achieve them as per the schedule. If any new financial goals have emerged, add them to your comprehensive financial planning. Make sure all your mutual fund SIPs are mapped to their respective financial goals.

Sit with your financial planner and review the performance of each mutual fund SIP. If a scheme has consistently underperformed, consider replacing it with another appropriate mutual fund scheme.

Review your asset allocation. If the weightage of a particular asset has increased due to its outperformance, consider rebalancing. When you sell a portion of an asset class, there will be capital gains tax implications. If any new asset class or financial product has been introduced, check whether it needs to be included in your investment portfolio. If yes, create a financial plan to invest in it and map it to a specific financial goal.

Credit card portfolio review

Credit cards, when used correctly, can provide numerous benefits, such as instant discounts, reward points, complimentary lounge access, complimentary memberships, BOGO offer on movie tickets, etc. Since the start of the calendar year 2026, many banks have announced numerous changes to their credit cards in the form of devaluations. At the same time, some existing credit cards have been revalued and some new credit cards with attractive features and benefits have been launched.

Review your existing credit card portfolio. If one or more credit cards have been devalued and the use case is no longer there, consider closing them. At the same time, if a new credit card has been introduced and it suits your needs, consider applying for it.

These days, many banks allow you to book flight tickets and hotels by redeeming reward points on their portals. Some banks allow you to transfer reward points to frequent flyer programs (FFPs) of various airlines and hotel loyalty programs. The loyalty points can be used to book Award flight tickets or hotel rooms. So, if you use the right credit cards to accumulate reward points, they can sponsor your next family vacation free of cost.

Update your will

The last step is to ensure your assets are smoothly transferred to your intended beneficiaries after you are gone. You can start by checking whether you have made the nomination for all your financial products. If any existing nomination has to be modified, do it.

If you have added any new asset(s) during the financial year, include them in your will. If you still don’t have a will, make one.

Are you on track to achieve your financial goals?

An annual review at the end of the financial year or at the start of the next financial year should be part of your financial planning journey. An annual review helps you evaluate the progress you have made in the current financial year. It also helps you to plan for the upcoming financial year and beyond. Regular reviews ensure you are on track to achieve your financial goals. With every annual review, you move one step ahead in your financial planning journey till you achieve all your financial goals.

Gautam Gambhir seeks injunction in Delhi HC over AI deepfakes

India head coach and former Member of Parliament Gautam Gambhir has approached the Delhi High Court seeking urgent relief against the alleged large-scale misuse of his identity through artificial intelligence, deepfakes, and unauthorised commercial exploitation.

The petition has been filed in the High Court, naming multiple social media accounts, intermediaries, and e-commerce platforms as defendants. In his suit, the petitioner has sought a permanent injunction restraining all defendants from using or exploiting his name, image, voice, or persona without explicit consent.

He has also prayed for an immediate ex-parte ad-interim injunction directing the takedown of all infringing content and preventing further circulation of such material pending final adjudication.

Additionally, Gambhir has sought damages amounting to Rs 2.5 crore along with rendition of accounts.

Gambhir has contended that since late 2025, there has been a sharp rise in fabricated digital content using AI tools such as face-swapping and voice cloning to falsely depict him making statements he never made.

According to the plea, some of these videos–including a fake resignation announcement and fabricated remarks on senior cricketers–garnered lakhs of views, thereby misleading the public and damaging his reputation.

The petitioner has further alleged that his identity has also been commercially exploited through the sale of unauthorised merchandise on e-commerce platforms, without any permission or licensing.

The suit has been filed against 16 defendants, including certain social media accounts, intermediaries such as platform operators, and e-commerce entities. Government authorities have also been arrayed as pro forma parties to ensure effective enforcement of any court directions.

The petition invokes provisions under the Copyright Act, Trade Marks Act, and Commercial Courts Act, while relying on judicial precedents recognising personality and publicity rights as enforceable legal rights, including in the context of AI-driven misuse.

Highlighting the seriousness of the issue, Gambhir has stated that his identity has been “weaponised” by anonymous accounts to spread misinformation and generate revenue, stressing that the matter goes beyond personal harm and raises larger concerns about dignity and legal protection in the age of artificial intelligence.

The matter is expected to be taken up by the Delhi High Court in the coming days for consideration of interim relief.

BTS makes full-group return in Seoul, opens ‘ARIRANG’ concert with ‘Body to Body’
BTS dominated Gwanghwamun Square in Seoul with an exhilarating performance that marked their grand re-entrance after four years, titled ‘BTS The Comeback Live: ARIRANG.’ Their show, broadcast worldwide on Netflix, broke international records and captivated fans, even with RM battling an ankle injury.

BTS returned to the stage as a full group on March 21, 2026, with ‘BTS The Comeback Live: ARIRANG’ at Gwanghwamun Square in Seoul, marking their first full-group concert in nearly four years. The seven members, RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jung Kook, performed before a massive crowd in the city center and for a global audience through Netflix. The concert came a day after the release of their new album ‘ARIRANG’ and turned into an emotional reunion with fans after the group’s long military hiatus.

BTS comeback concert in Seoul and Netflix live stream

According to The Indian Express, BIGHIT MUSIC confirmed before the show that RM had suffered an ankle injury during rehearsals, including “a sprain, partial ligament tear, and contusion.” The report added that he would wear a cast and limit movement for at least two weeks, though he still joined the concert. The Indian Express, citing various Korean news outlets, reported that the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency deployed close to 15,000 safety personnel, including 6,500 police officers, for the event. The Korea Times reported that authorities tightened security, raised the terrorism advisory level to “caution,” and used metal detectors, drone jammers, and AI-based CCTV monitoring to manage the crowd. The group opened the show with ‘Body to Body.’ The performance ended with “five women in traditional Korean attire closing out the vocals in a Korean folk style,” linking the comeback to Korean cultural imagery. BTS then moved into ‘Hooligan’ and ‘2.0,’ wearing black hip-hop inspired outfits under red stage lights. RM performed seated during part of the segment because of his injury.

BTS ‘ARIRANG’ songs, fan messages and emotional comeback

Before the concert, Suga wrote on Weverse, “Hello, everyone. We’re working hard with the members to show you a good performance!” He also told fans, “I miss you. See you soon!” Jungkook shared his own message ahead of the event, writing, “We’ll do our best on stage today! Let’s all meet safely and have a fun and happy time.”On stage, BTS greeted fans with, “Hello, we are BTS,” and thanked them for waiting. Jungkook added, “We have something special tonight. We’ll do our best, give everything we got.” The set mixed new songs with older hits including ‘Butter,’ ‘Mic Drop,’ ‘Dynamite,’ and ‘Mikrokosmos.’The concert also gave fans a deeper look at the group’s mindset. RM said the group wanted to make songs that felt true to them after spending two months in Los Angeles working on music. Suga said there were long conversations behind the album and that the goal was to show the honest side of all seven members. Jimin told fans, “We are just like you, scared and worried all the time. Despite that, the seven of us want to accept those feelings and keep swimming together.”That theme carried through the performance of ‘Swim’ and into the final stretch of the show. BTS closed the night with ‘Mikrokosmos,’ thanked ARMY for their support, and asked fans to get home safely after the concert.

Dhurandhar 2 screening disrupted in Montreal, screen slashed – watch video

Aditya Dhar’s directorial Dhurandhar: The Revenge became one of the biggest releases of the year. Owing to the success of Dhurandhar in December, its sequel became one of the most anticipated films. The film was officially released in theatres worldwide on March 19, with select preview screenings on the evening of March 18. However, screenings of the film in Montreal, Canada, were disrupted after incidents of sabotage were reported in two cinema halls.

Dhurandhar 2 screening disrupted by vandals

According to viral reports on social media, miscreants were seen slashing the theatre screen mid-show, causing interruptions during screenings of Dhurandhar 2. Videos from inside the theatres have since gone viral, showing large tears across the screen as the film played. One clip showed an intermission announcement, while another showed a police officer standing by inside the auditorium.

The real cause behind the alleged violent act inside the theatre is still unknown. There has been no official statement on the matter so far.

Indian films screened in Canada have faced similar disruptions over the years. In October 2025, a theatre in Ontario halted screenings of Kantara: A Legend Chapter 1 and They Call Him OG after separate incidents of arson and gunfire.

Dhurandhar 2 box office

Ranveer Singh’s much-awaited espionage drama Dhurandhar 2 has created a storm at the box office. The film opened to massive numbers, crossing the Rs 100 crore mark on its very first day. Roadblocks like show delays and cancellations failed to slow its momentum.

As per trade trackers, the Aditya Dhar directorial minted Rs 102.55 crore on opening day, with the Hindi version contributing a lion’s share of Rs 99.10 crore. Interestingly, the first instalment, Dhurandhar, the all-time highest Hindi grosser, had opened at Rs 27 crore in December 2025 — meaning the sequel earned nearly four times more on day one.

The Kannada and Malayalam versions, which could not hold paid previews due to technical issues and non-availability of content, collected Rs 0.8 crore and Rs 0.9 crore respectively. The Tamil version earned Rs 1.16 crore from 958 shows in India, while the Telugu version collected Rs 2.12 crore.

Ahead of its March 19 release, the Ranveer Singh-starrer held paid previews across Indian cities on March 18, earning Rs 43 crore from 12,735 shows despite cancellations.

ICC Chief Prosecutor Khan cleared of sexual misconduct by judges: Report | ICC News

Karim Khan has denied the allegations and took voluntary leave from his position in May.

Judges have cleared the chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), Karim Khan, of all wrongdoing after an investigation into alleged sexual misconduct, Middle East Eye reports.

Middle East Eye says that a panel of three judges submitted a confidential report to the court’s oversight body, the Bureau of the Assembly of States Parties (ASP), on March 9.

According to two diplomatic sources who read the report and two other diplomatic sources briefed on it, the judges unanimously found that the information presented in a report by the United Nations Office of Internal Oversight Service (OIOS) “did not establish any misconduct or breach of duty”.

“The Panel is unanimously of the opinion that the factual findings by OIOS do not establish misconduct or breach of duty under the relevant framework,” the report concluded, according to the sources.

The OIOS investigation was commissioned by the head of the ASP in November 2024 after a member of Khan’s office accused the prosecutor of sexual misconduct.

In August last year, a second woman came forward and alleged that Khan had abused his power over her while she was working for the British lawyer.

The woman had described his behaviour to UK newspaper The Guardian last year as a “constant onslaught” of advances.

Khan has denied the allegations and took voluntary leave from his position at the ICC in May, while awaiting the inquiry’s results. His deputy prosecutors have been in charge of his office in his absence.

According to Middle East Eye, the ASP met on Monday to discuss its response to the panel’s report. Under the court’s rules, if the bureau determines that no misconduct has occurred, the investigation should be closed.

The ASP has 30 days from receiving the report to make its preliminary assessment of the alleged sexual misconduct. Khan will then have 30 days to respond, and the bureau will have another 30 days to make its decision.

Khan declined to comment on the report, the outlet said.

The allegations of sexual misconduct came as Khan’s office was pursuing an investigation into alleged war crimes and genocide by Israeli officials and forces in Gaza and the occupied Palestinian territory.

Khan sought arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his then-defence minister, Yoav Gallant, over “criminal responsibility” for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

He also sought arrest warrants for Russian President Vladimir Putin and other Russian officials over the alleged unlawful deportation of Ukrainian children during Moscow’s ongoing war on Ukraine.

Watch: Babar Azam shows off cooking skills on Eid amid T20 World Cup injury controversy

Pakistan batter Babar Azam surprised fans on EidulFitr by swapping his cricket gear for a cooking spoon, sharing a viral video of himself preparing traditional festive dishes at home. In the clip, the 31yearold was seen carefully making seviyan and sheer khurma, calling it his “sweet Eid signature” and offering fans a relatable glimpse of his life off the field.

The light-hearted kitchen moment comes amid growing controversy over his fitness and form following the Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. Reports suggest that Babar, along with opener Fakhar Zaman, played through injuries during the tournament, raising questions about the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) selection and fitness protocols.

WAS BABAR INJURED BEFORE T20 WORLD CUP?

Concerns were first flagged by senior selector Aaqib Javed during a media conference last week, when he requested the PCB to investigate the matter. Speaking alongside Misbah-ul-Haq, Sarfaraz Ahmed and Asad Shafique, all members of the men’s selection committee, Javed revealed that both Babar and Fakhar had been carrying injuries that the selectors were only made aware of after the tournament.

The issue was further highlighted by Dr Javed Mughal, a UK-based sports physiotherapy and medicine expert who joined the PCB medical panel as director of sports exercise and medicine in January. Dr Mughal assessed both players following the World Cup and raised concerns regarding their fitness.

Babar’s World Cup numbers reflect a challenging campaign. Across four innings, he scored 91 runs at an average of 22.75 and a strike rate of 112.34, with a top score of 46, figures that prompted debate among fans and analysts as Pakistan failed to reach the semi-finals.

Since Pakistan’s T20 World Cup exit, Babar has not played any competitive cricket. He was omitted from the ODI series in Bangladesh, where Pakistan fielded six uncapped players, and was also left out of the National T20 Cup 2026.

Selectors and PCB fitness staff have yet to provide a full update on his recovery. He is expected to return to action as captain of Peshawar Zalmi in the upcoming Pakistan Super League 2026, which begins later this month.

Indian refiners eye Iranian oil stuck at sea as US eases curbs

NEW DELHI: Following a temporary waiver issued by the US administration on sanctioned Iranian oil stranded at sea, Indian refiners on Saturday said they would be keen to buy the crude, even as Tehran maintained that no surplus stocks existed.US treasury secretary Scott Bessent announced the waiver on Friday, saying that by temporarily unlocking this existing supply for the world, the US would bring approximately 140 million barrels of oil to global markets, expanding overall availability and helping relieve supply pressures. The authorisation is limited to cargoes already in transit and is valid only for a short window of a month.“In essence, we will be using the Iranian barrels against Tehran to keep the price down as we continue Operation Epic Fury. This temporary, short-term authorisation is strictly limited to oil that is already in transit and does not allow new purchases or production,” Bessent said.Iran’s oil ministry spokesperson Saman Ghodousi, however, contradicted the US statement, saying Washington was merely giving hope to buyers. “At present, Iran essentially has no crude oil left floating on water or surplus for supply in other international markets, and the statement by the US treasury secretary is merely aimed at giving hope to buyers and psychologically controlling the market,” Ghodousi said in a statement in Persian on X.The move comes amid supply disruptions in Hormuz, a key chokepoint that witnesses the movement of nearly a fifth of the global oil trade, and a surge in global oil prices. The US had earlier this month issued a similar temporary waiver on sanctioned Russian oil in transit to boost global supplies and keep crude prices in check, as benchmark prices have surged amid tightening supplies.A senior official at a state-run refinery said India was trying to source oil from all possible avenues at a time when supplies have been disrupted due to the military conflict. “Teams across refiners are working hard to strike deals and procure oil and gas. The heavy and light grades of Iranian crude are quite compatible with our refineries. It will benefit all oil companies if we manage to secure some cargoes,” the official said.

Rinku Singh flagged as concern for KKR ahead of IPL 2026: ‘He must maintain his standard’

Rinku Singh flagged as concern for KKR ahead of IPL 2026: ‘He must maintain his standard’

Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan raised concerns over Rinku Singh’s dip in form, suggesting it could become a concern for Kolkata Knight Riders heading into the new season. Rinku, who was part of India’s T20 World Cup-winning squad, endured a quiet tournament and failed to leave his usual mark as a finisher. He scored just 24 runs in five innings and also lost his spot in the XI in the final stage of the tournament.

KKR already face pressure after missing out on the playoffs last year, with their decisions at the auction drawing criticism. The move to release Shreyas Iyer and later hand the captaincy to Ajinkya Rahane raised eyebrows, especially since he wasn’t their primary target.

Pathan also reflected on Rinku’s dip after a breakthrough 2023 season, pointing out how inconsistent opportunities and a decline in returns have raised questions over his role and impact in the current setup.

“Then there is Rinku Singh. We will have to see how much opportunity he gets to play. His 2023 season was outstanding. He scored 400-450 runs with a strike rate of 150. But after that, his performance dipped, and many times he didn’t get enough opportunities,” Pathan said on his YouTube channel.

Also Read – Pujara warns of ‘fired-up’ Shubman Gill in IPL 2026 after T20 World Cup snub: ‘If he has a good season, he’ll…’

Rinku’s 2023 season saw him score 474 runs in 14 innings at an average of 59.25 and a strike rate of 149.52, with four fifties. However, since then, he has scored just 374 runs in 22 innings at an average of 23.37, with a best score of 38*.

“Rinku Singh couldn’t fully capitalise on the chances he got at T20 World Cup”

The former India all-rounder went on to stress that Rinku now needs to make better use of the chances he gets, adding that his inability to capitalise consistently has become a concern for KKR heading into the season.

“He will have to maintain his standard and maximise the opportunities he gets. Even in the World Cup, he played five matches, but he couldn’t fully capitalise on the chances he got. This is another problem that Kolkata needs to rectify, and Rinku Singh is one of them.,” he added

Adding to their concerns, the form of key players like Varun Chakaravarthy and Sunil Narine hasn’t been at its best, leaving the team with several issues to address ahead of the upcoming season.
