Andre Russell’s Legacy at KKR (2014-2025)

Andre Russell enjoyed a legendary 12-year stint with Kolkata Knight Riders, during which he established himself as one of the most destructive all-rounders in IPL history. He played 133 matches for KKR, Russell scored 2593 runs at a staggering strike rate of 174-175. Batting primarily in the lower middle order, Russell smashed over 220 sixes and 183 fours, consistently finishing games with explosive cameos. He also registered 12 half-centuries, with a highest score of 88, often turning matches single-handedly in the death overs. With the ball, Russell was equally impactful, picking up 122 wickets for KKR, making him one of the rare players to dominate both departments.Notably, Russell became one of only a few players in IPL history to achieve the rare double of 2000+ runs and 100+ wickets, highlighting his immense all-round value to the franchise over more than a decade.

Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has said Iran’s enemies were being “defeated” in a written message for the Persian New Year, as the US and Israel continue to pound the country with attacks.

In a statement read on Iranian television on Friday, Khamenei praised the steadfastness of the Iranian people marking Nowruz, which he said ushered in ‌the year of a “resistance economy under national unity and national security”.

“At the moment, due to the particular unity that has been created between you, our compatriots – despite all the differences in religious, intellectual, cultural and political origins – the enemy has been defeated,” he said.

Khamenei has not been seen in public since he became supreme leader, following the assassination of his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, at the start of the war on February 28.

Iran’s supreme leader said that while the US and Israel believed that after one or two days of attacks, the Iranian people would overthrow the government, but this was a “gross miscalculation”.

The war was launched under “the delusion that if the pinnacle of the regime and certain influential military figures were to attain martyrdom, it would instil fear and despair in our dear people … and through this means, the dream of dominating Iran and subsequently dismembering it would be realised”, he said.

Instead, “a fracture has emerged in the enemy,” he added.

Analysts have observed that the Iranian constitution itself was drafted with the spectre of a power vacuum in mind, a “survival protocol” designed to give the system the capacity to continue even at a moment of maximum shock.

Khamenei also denied that Iran or its ‌allied forces were responsible for attacks ⁠against Turkiye and ⁠Oman.

Those were “false flag” incidents used by Iran’s enemy to “sow discord among neighbours, and it may occur in other countries as well”, he claimed.

The Turkish Ministry of National Defence last week said NATO air defences intercepted a ballistic missile launched from Iran. Two people were killed in Oman after drones came down in the Sohar province.

The supreme leader also called on Afghanistan and Pakistan to end their fighting and said he stood ready to assist.

“We consider our eastern neighbours to be very close to us”, the supreme leader said. “I appeal to our two brotherly countries, Afghanistan and Pakistan, to establish better relations with each other … and I myself am ready to take the necessary actions.”

The neighbouring countries agreed to a temporary “pause” in hostilities during the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Fitr this week, after weeks of deadly violence.

Shankar said that Ranveer Singh had “unconventional performance and terrific screen presence” in film. “#Dhurandhar2 It was an astounding experience to see real incidents and characters blended so well with fiction. I was immersed throughout and couldn’t feel the length of the film. Big applause for @AdityaDharFilms’s bold and unpredictable use of craft, particularly unconventional length of shots, scenes and film,” he wrote.

“@shashwatology Music was exceptional. @RanveerOfficial’s unconventional performance and terrific screen presence was a pleasure to watch. @ActorMadhavan’s performance was nuanced with new and apt expressions. He has started a new era in filmmaking!”

About Dhurandhar The Revenge

The spy action thriller released in five languages, including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada. Written by Aditya Dhar and produced by Jyoti Deshpande and Lokesh Dhar, the film released in theatres worldwide on March 19. The film star Ranveer Singh, appearing in dual personas as Jaskirat and Hamza. R Madhavan returns as strategist Ajay Sanyal, with Arjun Rampal as ISI Major Iqbal and Sanjay Dutt as SP Chaudhary Aslam. Michael Carrick has told his Manchester United side to ready themselves for an awkward encounter away to Bournemouth on Friday as they look to maintain their challenge for a Champions League place. The Red Devils have enjoyed a resurgence since former United and England midfielder Carrick was appointed caretaker boss in January until the end of the season. 

United are now third in the Premier League ahead of their trip to south coast side Bournemouth after recovering from their first loss under Carrick, away to Newcastle, by beating top-four rivals Aston Villa 3-1 on Sunday. Bournemouth, however, are 10th in the table and have made life difficult for United in recent seasons, with December`s remarkable 4-4 draw at Old Trafford extending their recent unbeaten run in this fixture.

Cherries boss Andoni Iraola, tipped as a possible permanent manager of the Red Devils has not lost in five previous matches against United. But such has been the club`s revival under Carrick, appointed after former United team-mate Darren Fletcher`s two-game spell in temporary charge following the sacking of Ruben Amorim, that the Old Trafford hierarchy may well stick with the 44-year-old come the end of the current campaign. “It`s a tough game,” Carrick said of Bournemouth, undefeated in their last 10 matches in the Premier League. 

“It`s a tough place to go. They`re on a really good run of form, so, yeah, a difficult game,” he also told a pre-match press conference on Thursday. “We`re obviously going down there, we`ve had a good run and the boys are in good shape but, yeah, always a difficult game. Always has been and probably always will be.

“We know that, they`re a really good team, well coached, really well coached, and good energy. We know we`ll be in for a game down there on Friday.” United have won just two of their last seven away matches following a last-gasp 2-1 loss at Newcastle. But Carrick said: “Whether it`s home or away, it`s not something we kind of look at too much. It`s the next game, really.” 

He added: “It`s been nice to be able to win at home and put that in place, and to go and play at Old Trafford with a real feeling of confidence and looking forward to the game and for the supporters to feel that as well and leaving with a good feeling.” Matthijs de Ligt, Patrick Dorgu and Lisandro Martinez remain sidelined for Friday`s match, but the latter is expected to be available when United return to action against Leeds on April 13. 

The international break, lack of European fixtures and an early FA Cup exit mean United have an unusually long, 24-day, wait for a game after the Bournemouth match. “You`ve got to be really flexible, you know, to come off the back of it in good shape,” Carrick said. “The boys will have a break, in some way, but we`re definitely mindful of it for sure and it`s a little bit unique in some ways, having the week after the internationals to prepare for the next game.”

Rakesh Bedi, who has been a part of the film industry since the late 1970s and known for iconic shows like ‘Srimaan Srimati’ and movies like ‘Chashme Buddoor’ among many others, has found a fresh wave of appreciation for his role as Jameel Jamali in Aditya Dhar’s ‘Dhurandhar’ and now the sequel, ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’. The veteran actor is delighted as his performance continues to win praise from audiences. While the Ranveer Singh led film is largely getting praise, it has also got it share of criticism and many have alleged it to be a propaganda film. In a recent interview, Bedi addressed the ongoing debate around the film being labelled as “propaganda,” making it clear that he does not subscribe to such classifications. “I don’t believe in politics. He also compared the film to other projects that have faced similar labels, asserting that Dhurandhar stands apart. “Recently, there was a film on Indira Gandhi and (Prime Minister Narendra) Modi, these films didn’t run for even two days. Dhurandhar’s writing, screenplay is great. People haven’t seen a film of this scale ever,” he added, noting that audiences are truly “celebrating cinema” with the sequel.Speaking about the overwhelming response the film is receiving, Rakesh described the current atmosphere as unprecedented. “This is a mad frenzy which is going on. I’ve never seen something like this in my career at least. Many people have not seen this kind of a frenzy, madness, and euphoria for a film,” he shared.The actor also reacted to a viral video featuring Alexander Stubb and Mark Carney discussing the film during a morning run. Calling it a huge compliment, he said, “What could be a bigger compliment? I was elated to find out that a film that I’m a part of is being talked about at this level. Aditya used to say one thing constantly while making the film. He would say, ‘We are going to raise the bar’. Govt clears Rs 20,000 crore credit guarantee scheme for MFIs; funding access in focus

The government has approved a limited-period Rs 20,000-crore credit guarantee scheme aimed at easing fund flow constraints faced by microfinance institutions (MFIs), according to a PTI report.The Credit Guarantee Scheme for Microfinance Institutions-2.0 (CGSMFI-2.0) will cover loans disbursed by member lending institutions (MLIs), including banks and other lenders, to non-banking finance company-MFIs and MFIs till the end of June, government-run National Credit Guarantee Trustee Company (NCGTC) said in a circular.MFIs, which largely cater to borrowers at the bottom of the economic pyramid, have been facing challenging conditions due to a rise in non-performing assets (NPAs), making lenders cautious about extending fresh exposure.According to the circular, MLIs will extend funding to MFIs or NBFC-MFIs based on their internal assessment for onward lending to eligible small borrowers. Certain conditions have also been prescribed on lending rates.To qualify for benefits under the scheme, the interest rate on loans sanctioned by MLIs to NBFC-MFIs/MFIs will be capped at the External Benchmark Lending Rate (EBLR) or the one-year marginal cost of funds-based lending rate plus two per cent.In addition, MFIs will have to lend to small borrowers at a cost at least one per cent below the average lending rate charged during the previous six months.The scheme also stipulates a maximum loan tenure of three years, including a one-year moratorium followed by a two-year repayment period. Further, MLIs are required to ensure that at least five per cent of the total loan amount under the scheme is sanctioned to small MFIs with assets under management (AUM) of less than Rs 500 crore, while 10 per cent should be allocated to mid-sized institutions with AUM between Rs 500 crore and Rs 2,000 crore.“The maximum amount of loan which can be sanctioned by MLIs to NBFC- MFIs/MFIs shall be capped at 20 per cent of AUM of respective NBFC-MFI/MFI subject to a maximum of Rs 100 crore to small size, Rs 200 crore to medium size and Rs 300 crore to large size NBFC-MFIs/MFIs,” the circular said.Microfinance Institutions Network (MFIN), the industry’s self-regulatory body, welcomed the measure, calling it a timely intervention that could help improve liquidity conditions.“The sector has demonstrated strong improvement in credit quality and adherence to responsible lending practices. The key constraint has been the availability of bank funding,” MFIN chief executive and director Alok Misra said.

But it was with Chuck Norris’ name that it found its niche. Martial artist, actor, screen icon, and pop culture hero – Chuck Norris wore a lot of hats in a life that spanned over eight decades. But the one that left an unusual mark on his legacy was that of an internet superstar. As Chuck Norris breathed his last on Friday, the internet fondly remembered its original parody king.

Chuck Norris – the tough guy

Chuck Norris was the proverbial tough guy. A martial artist who went toe-to-toe with the Bruce Lee in Enter the Dragon, he made his name in action films through the 80s and 90s. But it was his role of a lone gunslinger in the 90s’ TV hit Walker, Texas Ranger, that made him a household name across America. This also solidified his image as the mean, tough guy who could perform impossible tasks without breaking a sweat.

“It’s not violence for violence’s sake, with no moral structure,” Norris told the AP in 1996, speaking about the show. “You try to portray the proper meaning of what it’s about — fighting injustice with justice, good vs. bad. … It’s entertaining for the whole family.”

Chuck Norris Facts and internet fame

In the early years of the internet, websites were not the grand affairs they are today. Most were rudimentary pages of simple code. Among them was Chuck Norris Facts, an innocent all-text site dedicated solely to jokes about the man. None of them was mean, mind you. They merely talked about how impossibly tough the man was. His TV and screen persona, magnified many times, became the basis of these jokes.

Chuck Norris Facts went viral online with such wildly hyperbolic statements as, “Chuck Norris had a staring contest with the sun — and won,” and, “They wanted to put Chuck Norris on Mt. Rushmore, but the granite wasn’t tough enough for his beard.”

Norris ultimately embraced the absurdity of the meme craze, putting together The Official Chuck Norris Fact Book, which combined his favourites with supposedly true stories and the codes he aimed to live by. “To some who know little of my martial arts or film careers but perhaps grew up with Walker, Texas Ranger, it seems that I have become a somewhat mythical superhero icon. I am flattered and humbled,” he wrote in the forward to the Fact Book.

In 2012, the actor parodied these facts in a cameo appearance in The Expendables 2, when he recounted the cobra joke (as a fact) after killing 20 men with a single gun.

Chuck Norris’ life and death

Born Carlos Ray Norris in Ryan, Oklahoma, on March 10, 1940, Chuck grew up poor. At 12, he moved with his family to California and joined the U.S. Air Force after high school in 1958. It was during a deployment to Korea that he started training in martial arts. After leaving the Air Force, he became a six-time undefeated world karate champion and eventually founded his own American style of Karate in the 60s, known at times as Chun Kuk Do and the United Fighting Arts Federation. Black Belt magazine ultimately credited Norris with a 10th-degree black belt in its hall of fame, the highest possible honour in martial arts.

He began his acting career as an extra in the late 60s, but found fame with Enter The Dragon in 1972, when his face-off with Bruce Lee at the Coliseum became iconic. In 1993, he took on his most famed role, as a crime-fighting lawman in TV’s Walker, Texas Ranger. The show ran for nine seasons.

He had only taken acting roles on occasion in recent years, including the 2024 sci-fi action movie Agent Recon. He is due to appear in Zombie Plane, an upcoming film starring Vanilla Ice.

Chuck Norris died on Friday in what his family described as a “sudden passing.”

“While we would like to keep the circumstances private, please know that he was surrounded by his family and was at peace,” the family said in a statement posted to social media.

He had celebrated his birthday just over a week before his death, posting a sparring video on Instagram. “I don’t age. I level up,” he wrote.

The 28-year-old Vaibhav said he deeply admires Jasprit Bumrah’s impact across all phases of the game, adding that he hopes to become a similar game-changer, something the India pacer has built his reputation on.

“Absolutely, Jasprit Bumrah is someone I really look up to. No matter the format, whether it’s with the new ball, in the middle overs, or at the death, he always gives his best for the team and can suddenly change the game with his spell. I admire him a lot and try to become like him. I want to serve my team the way Bumrah serves India,” Vaibhav told The CricHub.

PRACTICE, PROCESS AND CONFIDENCE

Vaibhav said Bumrah’s advice to keep practising and repeating his process has stayed with him. The right-arm seamer added that the India pacer told him to keep bowling consistently, explaining that the more deliveries he bowls, the more his skills improve, his confidence grows, and his performances get better over time.

“Whenever I’m around him during the IPL, I make it a point to learn from him. Last year, when I was with the Indian team as a net bowler, Bumrah told me to just keep practising and repeating my process. He said the more you repeat your actions and bowl more deliveries, the better you become and the more confidence you build. That’s something I try to follow in my own game,” Vaibhav added.

Vaibhav enjoyed his best IPL campaign in 2025, picking up 17 wickets from 12 matches, although he was expensive at an economy rate of 10.11. He finished as KKR’s joint-highest wicket-taker alongside Varun Chakravarthy, but the Knight Riders failed to make the playoffs.

The right-arm seamer will now be eager to make an impact when KKR take on five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday, March 29.

Doha gymnastics World Cup event scrapped because of Middle East war

The gymnastics World Cup event scheduled to take place in Doha in April has been cancelled due to the war in the Middle East, the sport`s governing body announced on Friday. “World Gymnastics reports that, following an urgent online vote and in light of the current situation in the Middle East, its executive committee has decided to cancel the 2026 edition of the Artistic Gymnastics Apparatus World Cup in Doha (QAT), scheduled to take place from April 15 to 18,” World Gymnastics said in a statement.

“The event will not be rescheduled,” it added. Several major sporting events have been postponed or cancelled because of the war, including the Formula One grands prix in Bahrain and Jeddah, in Saudi Arabia. Both were scheduled for mid-April and have been cancelled. In football, the Finalissima, which was to pit European champions Spain against Copa America winners Argentina on March 27 in Qatar, has also been cancelled.

The Qatar motorcycling Grand Prix, initially scheduled for the weekend of April 12, has been postponed to November 8.
