All in well at HDFC Bank, Keki Mistry says after sudden exit of Atanu Chakraborty| Business News

Keki Mistry has sought to calm nerves of investors to employees and customers of HDFC Bank Ltd. alike after the sudden resignation of part-time chairman Atanu Chakraborty over “ethical concerns”.

Keki Mistry, interim part-time chairman of HDFC Bank.

“None of us are aware of the issues raised by Chakraborty in the letter,” said Mistry, who served as chief executive officer of Housing Development Finance Corp. Ltd. (HDFC Ltd.) before the mega HDFC Bank merger in 2023. “There’s no power struggle within the bank.”

HDFC Bank’s share price fell as much as 8.41% to ₹772.00 on Thursday, after India’s largest private-sector lender said that Chakraborty has resigned citing differences over “values and ethics”.

“Certain happenings and practices within the bank, that I have observed over last two years, are not in congruence with my personal values and ethics. This is the basis of my aforementioned decision,” Chakraborty said in his resignation letter to the board, a copy of which was shared in an exchange filing on Thursday (19 March 2026). “I confirm that there are no other material reasons for my resignation other than those stated above.”

Mistry, who is a non-executive (non-independent) director on the HDFC Bank board, has taken interim charge as the part-time chairman. Deputy MD Kaizad Bharucha will get more responsibility going forward. There’s no question on the reappointment of Sashidhar Jagdishan as the chief executive officer of the bank, Mistry said. His current term ends on 26 October 2026.

“Differences on minor issues do come up from time to time — no material issues raised,” Mistry went on to say today. “There could be a relationship issue between Chakraborty and the management.”

According to CEO Sashidhar Jagdishan, Chakraborty’s resignation has nothing to do with operational profitability of the bank. “We will re-examine organisation structure as we move forward.”

Chakraborty was appointed as HDFC Bank’s part-time chairman in April 2021 for a three-year term and reappointed in 2024 through May 2027. It was during his tenure that the mega HDFC Bank merger came to fruition, “though the benefits of the merger are yet to fructify”, Chakraborty said in his resignation letter.

Expert Opinion

IiAS CEO Amit Tandon: “The RBI should be on top of the issue as HDFC Bank is a systematically important bank. But since the RBI has appointed a group insider Keki Mistry in his place it could mean less alarm for shareholders.”

Kotak Institutional Equities: “While governance standards have historically been strong for the bank, the current episode raises concerns about aspects that we may have limited insights, but could be material from a stock multiple perspective.”

Lionel Messi scripts history, betters Ronaldo to become fastest ever to 900 goals

Lionel Messi added yet another historic chapter to his legendary career on Wednesday, becoming only the second men’s footballer to score 900 goals in official matches. The landmark moment came during Inter Miami CF’s 1-1 draw against Nashville SC in the second leg of the CONCACAF Champions Cup.Despite Messi’s early strike, Inter Miami were knocked out of the competition on the away goals rule after Cristian Espinoza equalised to send Nashville through. The goal, however, was a significant personal milestone for Messi, placing him in an exclusive club alongside Cristiano Ronaldo as the only men’s players to reach 900 official goals. Ronaldo had achieved the feat earlier, in September 2024, and currently leads the charts with 965 goals. The Portuguese star has also expressed his ambition to become the first to reach 1,000 goals.Messi reached the 900-goal mark in 1,142 matches, quicker than Ronaldo, who took 1,236 games. In the all-time scoring list, Pelé remains third with 765 goals, while active players like Robert Lewandowski trail behind with 690.A majority of Messi’s goals came during his iconic spell with FC Barcelona, where he netted 672 times after making his debut in 2004. He later scored 32 goals for Paris Saint-Germain before continuing his prolific run in the United States with 81 goals for Inter Miami. On the international stage, the Argentina national football team captain has scored 115 goals, further cementing his legacy as one of the game’s greatest players. His most remarkable year remains 2012, when he scored an astonishing 91 goals for club and country, a record that still stands as one of football’s greatest individual feats.

Oscars 2026: Kim Kardashian falls into a bush – Watch

Reality star Kim Kardashian had quite a dramatic 2026 Oscars weekend. She went down before making her way to the carpet, as seen in a new TikTok video shared by her.

In the behind-the-scenes post, the reality star revealed that she took a dramatic fall in her ensemble, reports ‘People’ magazine.

Her outfit featured a curve-hugging gold Gucci turtleneck gown and towering USD 80 high heels. Just moments before her tumble, Kardashian can be heard saying, “I wonder if this shoe should be tighter”.

As per ‘People’, the next clip shows her buckling and partially falling into a nearby bush. Two people, including her friend Stephanie Shepard, were able to hold her up. “My ankle”, Kardashian says. “F*** that poor lady I grabbed her”, likely referencing an onlooker.

And while she mentioned being “nervous” for the carpet earlier in the video, Kardashian nailed the moment in her bold look, which also featured icy blue contact lenses and intentionally tousled hair as a part of her glam.

The outfit was also a big hit with race car driver Lewin Hamilton, whom Kardashian has been romantically linked to since February, when a video obtained by TMZ captured them exiting the same SUV as they arrived at a hotel in Paris.

After she posted a series of glam photos from her night, Hamilton, 41, commented a flirty emoji with heart eyes. A source said last month that the Formula 1 star makes Kardashian “feel safe, and she genuinely enjoys spending time with him”.

The 45-year-old reality star and the British F1 racer, 41, separately shared photos from a trip to Lake Powell in Arizona over the weekend. The couple were spotted at the destination, after images showed the pair exiting a black SUV and taking a stroll just in time to catch the desert sunset, both dressed warmly in pants and jackets for their evening out.

Afghan cricketers visit victims, condemn civilian casualties after airstrikes

Officials from the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB), along with national team players, visited hospitals in Kabul to check on those injured due to the Pakistani strike at a hospital. The players offered support and prayers for recovery.

Afghanistan`s ODI and Test captain Hashmatullah Shahidi, accompanied by teammates Gulbadin Naib and Qais Ahmad, visited Wazir Akbar Khan and Kabul Emergency hospitals, where they met survivors and expressed solidarity with victims and their families.

The visit came amid growing outrage among Afghanistan`s cricketing community following reports of heavy civilian casualties caused by airstrikes in Kabul. Several players publicly condemned the violence and called for accountability.

Over 400 people have been reported killed in the deadly airstrike carried out by Pakistan on an addiction treatment hospital in Kabul, while at the same time, the Pakistani military has fired 124 rockets into the districts of Kunar province over the past 24 hours, as reported by Tolo News.

The United Nations has called for an investigation and accountability into the horrific airstrike.

According to Tolo News, officials from the Kunar Directorate of Information and Culture said that Pakistan carried out scattered rocket attacks across several areas of the province; however, no casualties have been reported.

Zia-ul-Rahman Spin Ghar, Head of Information at the Directorate, said: “The Pakistani military regime has once again launched 124 rocket attacks on districts near the hypothetical Durand Line in Kunar. Fortunately, no one was harmed in these attacks. However, as a result, many of our fellow citizens have been forced to leave their homes.”

Citing Kunar`s Department of Refugees and Repatriation, Tolo News reported that nearly 7,500 families from districts near the Durand Line have been displaced due to these rocket attacks and have moved to safer areas

Earlier on Tuesday, several Afghanistan cricketers spoke out against the civilian casualties reported in Kabul following airstrikes by Pakistan, expressing grief and calling for justice. Pakistan carried out heavy bombardment targeting Afghanistan`s capital, Kabul, with Taliban officials and residents reporting multiple explosions across the city, Khaama Press reported.

According to Khaama Press, the latest bombardment highlights rapidly deteriorating relations between Pakistan and the Taliban administration as both sides continue to trade accusations over security issues.

Rashid Khan took to X to express his outrage, saying he was “deeply saddened by the latest reports of civilian casualties in Kabul”. The all-rounder added that targeting civilian homes, educational facilities, or medical infrastructure, whether intentional or accidental, amounts to a war crime.

Rashid Khan wrote, “I am deeply saddened by the latest reports of civilian casualties as a result of Pakistani airstrikes in Kabul. Targeting civilian homes, educational facilities or medical infrastructure, either intentional or by mistake, is a war crime. The sheer disregard for human lives, especially during the holy month of Ramadan, is sickening and deeply concerning. It will only fuel division and hatred. I call upon the UN and other human rights agencies to thoroughly investigate this latest atrocity and hold the perpetrators to account. I stand with my Afghan people in this difficult time. We shall heal, and we will rise as a nation. We always do. Inshallah!”

'Are you stupid?': Frustrated Nora Fatehi fires back at trolls questioning her clarification video on Sarke Chunar row

Actor Nora Fatehi addressed the controversy surrounding her new track Sarke Chunar from the Kannada pan-India film KD: The Devil, on Wednesday, stating that she was unaware of the Hindi version of the song. However, several social media users questioned her clarification, calling it a vague excuse. And Nora chose not to stay silent, and fired back at trolls, defending her stance.

Sarke Chunar, featuring Nora Fatehi and Sanjay Dutt, was released on Monday.

Nora reacts to trolls

Nora took to Instagram on Wednesday to share a clarification video, stating that she had signed on only for the original Kannada version of the song and was unaware that a Hindi version was also planned. However, her explanation sparked debate online, with several social media users questioning her claims in the comments section. Nora didn’t hold back and stepped in to respond directly to the criticism.

When one commented, “bullsh*** no one does any work without knowing the lyrics”, Nora reacted, “But I didn’t perform to those lyrics. Do u (you) not understand anything I said in this video? I did not perform to the Hindi version. I (have) never even seen or heard it until it was released. U (you) clearly didn’t watch this video entirely. If you really are affected by this, please raise this issue to the people who made this song and decided to attach my image to it without my permission.”

One social media user wrote that she blamed everyone, but never took accountability for her own choices. To this, Nora wrote, “Please f**k off”.

Reacting to another, Nora wrote, “Are you stupid or u (you) don’t understand English? What did I say in the start of the video? Please tell us because I want to understand which English you speak, so next time I’ll speak in ur English only.”

One social media user even questioned why she hadn’t taken legal action against the makers of the song, raising doubts over her stance.

Nora reacted, “Don’t worry, I am definitely suing… If you are searching for logic, just watch my video again and have someone translate it to you since it seems you have difficulty with my English.”

One comment read, “Girl! No network for days or taking time to make up such a bulls**t story? Let’s see if you sue them or this film gets released”.

To this, Nora wrote, “No network, I was in a mountain … and yes my best friend died so its okay to go MIA for a few days. I don’t need to make up any story… it is what it is.”

Nora hits back

When a social media user pointed out that the outrage also stemmed from the dance moves and her attire, urging her to “stop playing holier-than-thou,” Nora responded, “No body is playing holier than thou.”

“I spoke my truth…Thats it.. as for the dressing and the dancing, it’s nothing different than what all your favourite heroines and actresses have done in the past.. in all songs the dresses are like that and moves are like that .. it didn’t just happened when I started doing songs, so don’t pretend like I’m the one who created this world. It’s nothing different from what they do in the west also nothing different from past songs in the film industry..it’s a part of the glamour entertainment world. If you don’t like it then don’t follow performers and don’t follow the entertainment world. Simple. The issue at hand is the vulgar Hindi lyrics… I spoke my peace, case close if you don’t like my work please don’t watch it,” Nora added.

One social media user asked her not to do item songs and work on making individual music. And Nora agreed, sharing, “I totally hear it! And you are right! I’m working more on my own stuff now. And luckily the projects, I work in within bollywood have been great! I haven’t had any issues, but yes I am definitely more careful now.”

In another comment, Nora mentioned, “I understand Hindi very well. I don’t need someone to explain Hindi lyrics… I DID NOT PERFORM THE SONG IN HINDI ! I NEVER even heard this Hindi song! What part of this do u not understand! What part of this in my video did u not get? I’m so confused I feel like I’m one of the most articulate well-spoken people on social media and still u seem not to understand.”

One social media user also questioned why she hadn’t vetted the lyrics beforehand, wondering whether the Kannada version of the song would be drastically different from its Hindi counterpart.

“The Kanada version wouldn’t be the same as the Hindi version from what I understood. The point is I didnt shoot this Hindi song. I didnt make the song. I didnt perform to it and i didn’t sing it . I dont stand by it. Thats the point. If its about the kanada lyrics i only know what I’m told on set by the filmmakers and their translations was nothing close to the vulgarity of the Hindi translation. Please hold the necessary people accountable if you guys are so bothered. I tried to hold them accountable myself but I have only so much of power,” Nora wrote.

In another comment, Nora stressed, “My bigger issue is the fact they went and made a whole Hindi version in the most vulgar inappropriate way possible and just released it without my knowledge! That just makes me so angry and I hate that they operate like this generally in the industry, our approvals, opinions etc dont matter.”

About Sarke Chunar row

The song Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke, from the upcoming film KD: The Devil, featuring Nora Fatehi and Sanjay Dutt, has sparked controversy over its suggestive lyrics and choreography. The track has drawn criticism from a section of social media users, who have raised concerns about its content and presentation. KD: The Devil is written and directed by Prem.

The song Sarke Chunar’s opening verse had a double entendre describing sex in rather graphic detail. The song was uploaded in Hindi, Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada by Anand Audio, the film’s official music partner. On Wednesday, Union minister Ashwini Vaishnaw revealed that the song has been banned. The track was released on Monday, while the film is slated to be released next month.

Rishabh Pant is in the 10th year of his international cricket career. He has consistently inspired raging debates over these nine years. Eyeballs yearn for him even when he is not part of the Indian team. Last week, when videos of Pant practising in Mumbai and Chennai surfaced, he hogged the feed on social media, barely days after India became the first team to defend the T20 World Cup title. This could be a defining year for Pant, starting with the IPL. He hasn’t been a definite part of India’s white-ball team since winning the T20 World Cup in June 2024. In fact, he played just two T20Is and one ODI after Gautam Gambhir took charge as head coach of the Indian team. He has remained the backup wicketkeeper in the ODI setup. As India start preparing for the 2027 ODI World Cup in South Africa, a good IPL could keep him ahead of the likes of Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson.

Since recovering from the side strain he suffered in the second week of January, he has been travelling across the country to find the best-quality practice sessions. Pant’s preparations go beyond just fighting to win his place in India’s white-ball XI or justifying the tag of being IPL’s most expensive player. That he spent four intense days with Yuvraj Singh in Mumbai may seem as if he is just following in the footsteps of Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson. Unlike Samson, who went to resurrect his technique ahead of the T20 World Cup, Pant approached Yuvraj to clear the cobwebs from his mind. Pant and Yuvraj have shared a strong bond for a number of years. But the bond runs deeper since Pant survived a horrific car accident in December 2022. Both have touched death and come back to take the field for India when few gave them a chance to even lead a normal life. They share a common outlook on life. For Pant, spending time with Yuvraj was more about reassuring himself about his approach than just working on technical aspects of the game. Those who have followed Pant during the time he endlessly warmed the benches with India’s white-ball team will tell you he puts himself through punishing training sessions — both in the nets and off the field. Lucknow Super Giants recently posted a video of 21-year-old batter Mukul Choudhary waiting nearly two hours for Pant to come out of the nets. Soham Desai, India’s former strength and conditioning coach, mentioned how Pant dragged him to the gym whenever he was free, without caring for the workload management programmes during last year’s ICC Champions Trophy in Dubai. Former national selector Devang Gandhi, who was part of the committee that fast-tracked Pant, pointed out that Pant has the knack of bouncing back from difficult situations. “He has always been under intense scrutiny. But he has made stirring comebacks. He helped India win the Test series in Australia in 2020-21 after he was asked to warm the bench for most of the tour. He had a cracking IPL after coming back from his accident before making it to India’s T20 World Cup team in 2024. And then he had the stellar Test series in England last year after having a tough series in Australia and a modest IPL. These are indications that Pant is mentally very strong,” Gandhi told TOI. One can expect Pant to bat at No. 3 for LSG this season after enduring a forgettable season last year batting lower down the order. Pant’s decision to bat in the middle order had baffled experts since Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid had used him at No. 3 in the T20 World Cup. “He has to face more balls in an innings. I hope he cuts out the risks that come with playing reverse sweeps and fancy ramps. He has a solid technique and can play pace and bounce better than most in India. That’s what you will be looking for against top-quality fast bowling in South African conditions. Whatever videos I have seen on social media, it looks like he is trusting his basics. Having a mentor like Yuvraj will obviously help him,” Gandhi reckoned. Pant has had the time off to work on his cricket and is fresh for the IPL, which is a luxury for an India cricketer. The preps are done. It’s up to execution and reclaiming his place in India’s white-ball setup.

Dhurandhar 2 Twitter review: 'Best Indian film ever' floors viewers, internet says Ranveer Singh must win National Award

After months of build-up, anticipation, and hype, Aditya Dhar’s spy thriller, Dhurandhar The Revenge, finally released on March 19. The film had hundreds of preview shows on the evening of March 18, and by late night on the eve of the release, Twitter (now called X) was abuzz with reactions and audience reviews. For a film that had so many expectations riding on it, it was a task to live up to them all. But somehow, Dhurandhar 2 seems to have managed that, and quite well too.

Dhurandhar 2 Twitter review: Ranveer Singh as Jaskirat in the film.
Dhurandhar 2 Twitter review: Ranveer Singh as Jaskirat in the film.

Dhurandhar 2 Twitter reviews

The reviews for Dhurandhar 2, from both critics and the audience, are largely positive. Those who caught the early screenings of the film on Wednesday evening called it the ‘greatest Indian film ever’. A viewer tweeted at the interval point, “Already feels like this could be the greatest Indian film ever. The filmmaking is really good, and the music carries the film well. Everything feels very real and intense. The interval twist was really good and sets up the second half perfectly. Only issue so far is the length, but the positives easily cover it.”

Another gave the film 9.8 out of 10 and wrote, “Starts a bit slow, more violence and a little more politics. Flawlessly directed and intensely performed, this is essential cinema. A solid revenge, indeed!”

Dhurandhar 2 runtime irks many

The sequel is one of the longest Indian films ever, running at a staggering 3 hours, 55 minutes. Reactions to the film’s length were divided. Some called it ‘a drag’ and ‘too long’, while others were not bothered. One viewer wrote, “The film could have been much shorter. It just refuses to end, and had too many slow-motion shots.”

Another argued, “Even though the film runs close to 4 hours, it never feels boring. The story keeps you engaged all the time. Screenplay outstanding, direction mind-blowing.”

It’s a Ranveer Singh show, but Aditya Dhar impresses too

Like most viewers, actor Preity Zinta praised the entire cast and crew, but reserved special accolades for director Aditya Dhar and the lead star Ranveer Singh. “@AdityaDharFilms you have turned me into a fan girl & I love it. Thank you 🙏 for this incredibly immersive experience. Your skill, your talent and most of all your heart is in the right place. @RanveerOfficial You have my heart. What a stunning performance. What range, what depth, what sincerity ❤️I still need to process everything before I can articulate my thoughts,” she wrote.

Another fan wrote, “It’s a Ranveer Singh show. He must win the National Award for this, as should Aditya Dhar. This is peak cinema.”

Many dismayed by ‘propaganda’

However, the film’s politics did not sit well with a section of the audience. Many criticised what they called the film’s pandering to the ruling government.

One particularly scathing review read: “Dhurandhar 2 feels less like a movie and more like a loud propaganda reel. Weak story, forced agenda, and over-the-top dialogues everywhere. Characters feel like slogans, not real people. No subtlety, no depth—just noise. By the end, it’s not impactful, just exhausting.”

All about Dhurandhar 2

Apart from Ranveer Singh, Dhurandhar 2 also brings back R Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt, Sara Arjun, and Rakesh Bedi. The spy thriller released on March 19 as a follow-up and conclusion to Dhurandhar, the 2025 blockbuster.
