Igor Tudor claimed Tottenham`s spirited Champions League exit against Atletico Madrid showed they have improved enough to win their fight for Premier League survival. Tudor`s side beat Atletico 3-2 in the last-16 second leg in north London on Wednesday but it wasn`t enough to advance as they bowed out 7-5 on aggregate. After losing their first four matches since interim boss Tudor replaced the sacked Thomas Frank, Tottenham have finally showed signs of life just as their season threatened to dissolve into humiliation. Tottenham are only one point above the Premier League relegation zone but their gritty 1-1 draw at Liverpool on Sunday and the defiant victory against Atletico offered a glimmer of hope in a bleak campaign. 

“The sensations are mixed. You don`t like to not get through but it was a very good performance. It was a beautiful sensation on the pitch with the fans who were really there together with the team from the first moment,” Tudor said. “Congratulations to the players. It is positive, commitment, lot of running, lots of good things.

“The energy was really nice from the first moment. The players believed and you could see the performance at this moment is very important. In the last two games we have improved.” Tottenham`s European exit was hardly surprising after their dismal 5-2 loss in the first leg in Madrid last week. But the performance against Atletico was their most impressive for months and it comes at the perfect time with relegation rivals Nottingham Forest arriving for a crucial clash on Sunday. Fourth-bottom Forest are one point behind Tottenham but Tudor insists the result will not define their season. “It is an important game on Sunday but it will not decide anything yet, it will be decided over the last three games,” he said. 

“Today we had 11 players and on the bench (Lucas) Bergvall, (Destiny) Udogie and Conor (Gallagher), the doctors said they could only play 20 minutes. “That makes the value of this performance even better. It was nice to take the victory and important for morale.” Atletico will face Spanish rivals Barcelona in the last eight after surviving a tense evening at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Diego Simeone`s side never looked comfortable defending the three-goal first leg lead and will have to improve significantly to beat La Liga leaders Barca, who thrashed Newcastle 7-2 on Wednesday. 

Atletico striker Julian Alvarez, who scored his side`s first goal, conceded it wasn`t their best performance. “We knew it wasn`t going to be easy, but we had a few chances to win it as well. The important thing is that we`re through to the quarters, we`re among the best eight, so now it`s time to enjoy that,” he said. “We knew we were coming in with a three-goal advantage, which let us stay a bit calmer, but we also knew it was going to be a tough match. “We didn`t end up winning but the important thing was we went through. We have to think about improving and keep focusing on what`s coming.”

The first trailer for Tom Holland‘s ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ has made history, becoming the fastest to cross the 500 million views mark within 24 hours of release.Within hours of its release, early industry estimates indicate that the film’s trailer has crossed the record views previously held by the game ‘Grand Theft Auto VI’. As per reports, GTA set a new benchmark when its trailer amassed 475 million views in 24 hours. However, Holland’s ‘Spider-Man’ has reportedly crossed those numbers and shot past the 500 million mark within the same timeframe.Official figures are expected to be confirmed by Sony on Thursday.This comes following the massive success of ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ which crossed USD 1 billion at the box office, becoming the highest grossing ‘Spider-Man’ film. Interestingly, these numbers are also remarkable as the film’s trailer was leaked not once, but twice over the past months. Early this year, a recorded version of the trailer was leaked online on fan handles. The clip not only gave fans a glimpse of the action, but also glimpses of Sadie Sink‘s character, Mark Ruffalo‘s the Hulk, Jon Bernthal‘s Punisher and the villainous group The Hand. While at first, the clip was brushed aside as an AI creation, Marvel and Sony’s move to take down the videos online, fuelled speculation that the trailer was authentic. ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ marks a significant shift in Peter Parker’s journey. Set four years after the events of ‘No Way Home’, the film follows Peter as an adult living in isolation, having erased himself from everyone’s memories, including those of the Avengers and ones he loved.The official synopsis reads “Crime-fighting in a New York that no longer knows his name, he’s devoted himself entirely to protecting his city – a full-time Spider-Man – but as the demands on him intensify, the pressure sparks a surprising physical evolution that threatens his existence, even as a strange new pattern of crimes gives rise to one of the most powerful threats he has ever faced.”The trailer also teased a darker twist to the story with Peter rumoured to become ‘Man-Spider’ as he also faces an internal battle with himself. Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, Tom Holland returns as Spider-Man alongside Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Sadie Sink, Jon Bernthal, Mark Ruffalo, Michael Mando and Tramell Tillman in pivotal roles.The film will release in theatres on 31st July in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam across all premium formats.

The Sports Journalists’ Association of Mumbai (SJAM) excelled at the recent Golden Jubilee celebrations of the Sports Journalists Federation of India (SJFI) National Convention organised by the hosts Delhi Sports Journalists Association (DSJA) in New Delhi. 

At the annual gathering where the nation’s sports journalists compete in sporting events like cricket, table tennis, football (penalty kicks) and basketball (free throws), SJAM won most of the trophies. 

The West Zone team, comprising 11 SJAM members, that finished runners-up at the JK Bose Inter-Zonal T20 tournament in New Delhi

While the Akash Rawal-led North Zone team won the JK Bose Inter-Zonal T20 cricket title, the Sanjjeev Samyal-led West Zone side, comprising 11 SJAM members, 
finished runners-up. 

A three-member SJAM team, comprising Amol Karhadkar, Ashwin Ferro and Ankush Dhavre then clinched the AC Bali Table Tennis Team Championship title, beating DSJA’s Bharat Sharma and Kushan Sarkar in the final. 

Karhadkar also won the  singles crown, beating Tamil Nadu  Sports Journalists Association’s K Keerthivasan in the summit clash. SJAM also won the TT doubles title, with Karhadkar and Ferro beating DSJA’s Sharma and Sarkar in the final. 

SJAM finally swept the football penalty kicks event, clinching both first and second place with  the trio of  Karhadkar, Dhavre and Rutvick Mehta beating Ferro, Sudheendra Tripathi and Irfan Haji in the final. The Sports Writers Association of Bangalore won the free throws event.

Cuba’s grid operator has restored intermittent power after the national electric grid collapsed on 16 March. It comes amid a US-imposed oil blockade that has crippled the island’s already struggling fuel, food, and medicine shortages.

Several small groups of residents across Havana have in recent days banged pots in protest against extended blackouts. The series of widespread outages that last for hours or days sparked a rare violent protest in northern Cuba on 14 March, where a building was set ablaze.

President Donald Trump has in recent months hinted at a possible takeover of the island and during a White House event in early March said the island was “ready to fall”.

Mind you, unlike WhatsApp, end-to-end encryption was never a default setting on Instagram DMs—except some users in some geographies had the ability to opt-in. EDITOR’S MARGIN: Finding a Solution

There is a serious shortage of hard drives, solid-state drives and memory, and executives tell me time and again that they expect this trajectory to continue through 2026. Coincidentally, I’ve written about the WD_Black P10 Game Drive (this is an HDD) as well as the Sandisk Extreme Fit SSD, which is incredibly interesting. Nevertheless, back to the point.

A team of researchers from the National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS), the University of Tokyo, Kyoto Institute of Technology, and Tohoku University have had a new magnetic material breakthrough, which can indirectly lead to the end of the current memory and storage crisis. They say, thin films of ruthenium dioxide (RuO₂) display altermagnetism.

Magnetic materials are critical for memory devices. Ferromagnets make it easy to write data, even though they are sensitive to magnetic fields. Antiferromagnets are said to be more stable against such stray interference, as well as temperature changes. Something for tech companies to investigate further, one would guess.

The research team fabricated RuO₂ thin films with a single crystallographic orientation on sapphire substrates. By carefully selecting the substrate and fine-tuning growth conditions, the researchers controlled how the atomic lattice aligned during film formation. This control was essential for obtaining consistent and interpretable magnetic behaviour, crucial for storage and memory applications. “These results show that controlling crystallographic orientation is key to revealing and utilising altermagnetism in RuO₂ thin films,” they say.

SECOND THOUGHTS: DailyObjects’ not so lofty Loft

I almost always have opinions about charging accessories—essential devices, after all, considering how our phones, tablets and laptops have evolved.

A few days ago, came across something called the DailyObjects Loft charging station. It is priced at a whopping ₹4,999 (as with most DO things, grossly overpriced in my humble opinion) and the big pitch is the Instagram influencer friendly colour options—there’s an orange and a green in there as well. For this price, I’d obviously be analysing utility closely.

It looks good, has a good layout balancing Type-D sockets plus USB-C ports, and the braided cable is a nice touch for longevity. The company states the USB-C is rated at 65W in total (45W for USB-C1 and 20W for USB-C2 when used simultaneously)— though I cannot be too sure which is which because the ports don’t seem marked. Since this is GaN5, you would have the technological improvements of better heat resistance and charging voltage consistency.

And that’s where I have a problem. The Type-D ports on this charging station are a limitation—it’s a glorified power strip. And that is exactly my point—power strips have the universal multi-plug receptacle. Many of our tech accessories use Type A/B flat pin plugs, and for those, the Loft will require you to use a three-way plug. Since much of DailyObjects’ focus is on the show of it all, a three-way will ruin that look. In my book, the StuffCool ChargeCube Mini 65W may be a less beautiful thing in comparison but will prove to be a much better product overall.

On Wednesday, Allu Arjun took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share a review after watching the second part of Aditya Dhar’s spy thriller. He described the film as an Indian story that comes with “international swag”.

The Pushpa star went on to give a huge shout-out to actor Ranveer Singh, and director Aditya, writing, “So proud to have a brilliant and a versatile actor like my brother @RanveerOfficial in our country. RVS on fire… @AdityaDharFilms garu hit the ball out of the park. So happy to have brilliant filmmakers like him in our country. Show Rocker. An Indian story… International swag.”

R Madhavan was left overwhelmed after coming across the glowing review, and he took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his gratitude and respond warmly to the praise.
