The Zen of Sanju Samson

The Zen of Sanju Samson

Last November, for whatever reason you may choose to believe, Rajasthan Royals let go of Sanju Samson. A few months later, the legend of Samson – more than a decade in the making for India – rises and he turns into the caliph of the clutch and the pasha of the Powerplay, giving India’s T20 World Cup campaign wings, claws, et al.

Of his five (from India’s nine) T20 World Cup matches, no one remembers 22 and 24 vs Namibia and Zimbabwe. But we’re sure as hell never forgetting 97*, 89, 89.

Also remember, CSK procured Samson in exchange for Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran, a one-for-two deal that now leaves no doubt about the value. CSK are allowed a chuckle. Samson’s cult-figure status has only expanded in the last week of the World Cup; His Instagram following went from 11.5m to 18m as of this week. (RR marketing facepalms).

Samson now finds himself at the top of India’s white-ball batting totem – not just a World Cup-sealing innings, but that stuff three times over. His cricket and his personality, though, remain curious amalgams.

At the crease, Samson’s batting is steeped in classical frameworks – the godgift of timing, the purity of his batswing, the ability to hold shape, the lightness and balance in a frame which can lovingly be described as chunky. The sounds off that bat and that frame though — the crack, whizz, smack, sizzle — seem to belong to a hypersonic future.

Then, there’s the man who respectfully evades each of those descriptors for the Indian men’s team — tattooed, athletic, six-pack-flaunting, lean — and till he operates on a unique, social media frequency, gaining millions of Insta followers long before he was a dead certainty for the Indian team.

Much of that before March 2026 related to Samson’s Kerala-geist, his innate Malluness which resonates, in look, word and sense with everyone.

Sriram Parakkat, Supreme Court lawyer and a Sanju-loyalist explains. Kerala didn’t really have any cricketing heroes, “beyond Sreesanth” who was, “a different personality.”

Samson’s faithful have been with him for the past 10-12 years. “We waited a long time for him to perform for India, all the struggles…” and Parakkat says Malayalees “also like the soap opera kind of story.”

Gotcha. Malayalam media readily jumped onto Samson’s rollercoaster, doing interviews with the man and talk shows discussing when he would play for India. Social media campaigns hashtagged ‘Justice for Sanju Samson’ to the point that after the final, India bowler Arshdeep Singh, his arm hooked around Samson’s shoulder made an Insta reel, hollering, “Justice Mil Gaya!”

What has endeared Samson more across his community, Parakkat says is, “humility. He is a kindly man, we know he wouldn’t gloat over his achievement.”

His closest comparison – Sachin Tendulkar, who first “took that very middle class Maharashtrian community on his sleeve and then took on the whole of India.” Like Tendulkar, Samson too was a teenage prodigy with an uncommon talent. Kerala was smitten at first sight, but unlike Tendulkar it took Samson 15-odd years to win over the rest of the country.

Coach-mentor Zubin Bharucha says this is because he has grown into a “completely unique” elite cricketer. In an age of carefully-maintained social media personas, the public Samson has no mask.

Bharucha says, “It’s difficult to describe but everything he does comes from a very pure place… he helps everybody in every situation, he wants to do good around him.” Samson’s instinctive response to anyone in a jam, “what’s the issue – I’ll sort it out, main kartaa hoon.”

No matter what may be happening with his cricket, he is aware and engaged with the world around him. Bharucha has spoken of Samson getting houses built and repaired in his community and funding children’s education. He’s jumps into pick-up matches if he’s around them and there is a video of a cassocked priest bowling to him on the local church grounds.

Samson’s last 15 years have been, Bharucha says, about trying to conquer the mind and its many priorities.

“How do you marry the mind of a person who wants to do so much good with the fact that he has got this incredible ability to hit a cricket ball?”

Incredible, here is, “in terms of the way the ball leaves the bat is probably in the top three or four who have ever played the game – that’s the gift that he has. How do you convert that into anything special?”

India were gifted the ultra-special. In Samson’s unrushed, unflustered chase vs West Indies, his razor-focussed takedown of England and New Zealand.

After it was done, Bharucha says he felt, “somewhere deep down that it (the last three innings) was written in his DNA, on his bloody hand… like something larger than himself was operating through him.

The body and the mind being used in the service of something far greater.” Bharucha’s usual take on batting is sharp, layered, objective. But this is not technical dissection anymore. He is instead trying to tap into the Zen of Sanju.

Virat Kohli shares a video giving a peek into his IPL 2026 preparations

Indian star Virat Kohli has started getting ready for the Indian Premier League 2026 season. Videos of the former captain of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) working out in the nets have gone viral on social media.

Kohli posted a reel on Instagram where the 37-year-old was seen working hard during a practice session, concentrating on batting as he prepares for the IPL season. Fans flooded the comments section in anticipation of the 19th edition of IPL.

Virat Kohli is an all-time IPL great, having scored 8661 runs in 267 matches and 259 innings in IPL history. The former Indian skipper has a strike rate of 132.85 and an average of 39.54, along with eight centuries and 63 half-centuries in the competition.

The seasoned batsman scored 657 runs at an average of 54.75 in 15 games during the 2025 season, helping Bengaluru win their first IPL championship. With a strong strike rate of 144.71, Kohli amassed eight half-centuries.

On March 8, broadcaster Star Sports confirmed that the upcoming season of the IPL will officially kick off on March 28; however, the IPL fixtures are yet to be announced. RCB will be the defending champions after their maiden title win in 2025.

RCB set to play five games at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium

Santosh Menon, the secretary of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), said earlier this month that five of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 home games will take place at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. Additionally, he announced that one of the tournament`s play-off games and the IPL 2026 final will be held at the location.

RCB`s two home matches will be held at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium in Raipur, Chhattisgarh.

Since June of last year, cricket at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium has been suspended due to a stampede that resulted in 11 fatalities and multiple injuries during RCB`s IPL 2025 title celebration.

The stadium did not hold any matches at the recently finished ICC T20 World Cup and the ICC Women`s World Cup. This suspension of the iconic venue has also impacted domestic and state franchise-based competitions.

Hansika Motwani and Sohael Khaturiya are officially divorced: When we reported the couple’s separation

Apart from her successful career as a child artist, actor Hansika Motwani (34) has widely been in the news over the years for her personal life. In 2022, the Koi Mil Gaya star tied the knot with her longtime boyfriend and businessman Sohael Khaturiya (35) in a grand wedding at the Mundota Fort and Palace in Jaipur. The union made headlines, especially when it was reported that Sohael was earlier married to Rinky Bajaj, a close friend of Hansika’s. However, in 2025 rumours suggested that there was trouble in paradise. HT City exclusively reported that the couple was living separately. Well, Hansika and Sohael have now been officially granted divorce by the Bandra Family Court in Mumbai.

In November 2022, after years of being friends, Sohael Khaturiya proposed to Hansika Motwani in Paris near the Eiffel Tower. A month later they tied the knot in Jaipur and the prep of the wedding was documented on the reality show Hansika’s Love Shaadi Drama. But rumours of trouble in paradise surfaced in 2025. While Sohael and Hansika kept their lips sealed, the latter did remove all wedding pictures from Instagram, making the rumour mill churn faster. In July 2025, HT City exclusively reported that Hansika and Sohael were living separately. An insider had revealed, “Hansika has moved in with her mother, while Sohael is staying with his parents. When the couple got married in December 2022, they initially moved in with Sohael’s family. However, adjusting with a big family was an issue. So, they shifted into a condo in the same building. But it seems the problems have persisted.”

Post their divorce today, speaking to NDTV, Hansika’s lawyer Adnan Shaikh shared, “Our client, Hansika Motwani, has been granted a decree of divorce by the Hon’ble Family Court Bandra. The divorce was granted by mutual consent after both parties acknowledged that the marriage had irretrievably broken down. Our client had initially approached her now former husband seeking an amicable separation, which ultimately culminated in the present decree. The respondent filed his affidavit before the court today confirming his consent to the dissolution of the marriage.” The lawyer further stated, “It is pertinent to clarify that our client has made no claims whatsoever for alimony or maintenance, as her sole intention was to bring a dignified and peaceful closure to the marriage. The reasons for the breakdown of the relationship were placed before the Hon’ble Court in the petition. Our client now wishes to move forward with her life and professional commitments.”

On the work front, Hansika was last seen in the 2024 Tamil horror film Guardian.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) CEO Kasi Viswanathan said veteran wicketkeeper-batter MS Dhoni is expected to play in all matches of the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL). However, the final decision about his exact role will be made by the team management. The 19th edition of the IPL will start on March 28, and all teams have already begun their training camps. Players who recently took part in the T20 World Cup will soon join their teams and start preparing for the tournament.

Sanju Samson opens up on T20 World Cup journey, and title win

There were worries that CSK legend Dhoni might not play all IPL 2026 matches because of his age, but CEO Kasi Viswanathan dismissed these concerns and said “He will play all the matches, according to me.”Asked what role he’s likely to takeup in the tournament, with another keeper-batter Samson now in the team, he added, “That I cannot say. That is a cricketing decision which will be taken by the cricketing staff. Not by the administrative staff. So they will decide whether he is going to play as a batsman or as a wicketkeeper-batter, or as an impact player.”He expressed pride in the franchise’s players Sanju Samson and Shivam Dube, who put up match-winning performances in Team India’s T20 World Cup-winning campaign, and said, “We are very happy that India has won the World Cup, that too they’ve won it back-to-back. We are delighted because two of the CSK players, Sanju and Shivam Dube, have performed extremely well. It gives us a lot of confidence in the team doing well for CSK here also,” he said. When asked about the players’ preparations in the camp, he said, “Practice is going on well, no problems so far.”

‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge will be even bigger’: Danish Pandor agrees with Ram Gopal Varma’s prediction
Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma recently predicted on social media that the sequel to Dhurandhar — titled Dhurandhar: The Revenge — could turn out to be even bigger than the first film. Reacting to the remark, actor Danish Pandor, who plays Uzair Baloch in the film, said he believes the sequel indeed has the potential to raise the bar further.

Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma recently predicted on social media that the sequel to Dhurandhar — titled Dhurandhar: The Revenge — could turn out to be even bigger than the first film. Reacting to the remark, actor Danish Pandor, who plays Uzair Baloch in the film, said he believes the sequel indeed has the potential to raise the bar further.Responding to Varma’s prediction in an interaction with Faridoon Shahryar, Danish said, “I can vouch for that. It has the material to be an even bigger hit. There are so many things happening in the story and it’s written beautifully by Aditya sir.” While he refrained from revealing further details, the actor described Dhurandhar 2 in one word — “Insane.”

‘The 26/11 sequence was emotionally draining’

Danish also spoke about one of the most emotionally intense portions of the film. According to him, the sequence inspired by the 2008 Mumbai attacks was particularly difficult to shoot.Recalling the moment, he said the atmosphere on set turned heavy when the character Major Iqbal turns back and the chants begin. “It was emotionally draining for everyone,” Danish said, adding that the impact deepens when the character played by Ranveer Singh realises the gravity of the situation and that he cannot undo what has happened.Danish explained that hearing the real voice note linked to the attack made the moment even more unsettling. “When you hear the actual conversation between the terrorists and their handlers, you feel terrible. Earlier we had heard about it through journalists, but listening to the real recording makes you much more empathetic,” he said.“As a character I had to play my role, but as Danish the person, I felt terrible,” he added.

‘Reading the script left me in wonder’

The actor also recalled his first reaction after reading the script of Dhurandhar, which is directed by Aditya Dhar. Danish said he was asked to read the script only at the office and was not allowed to take it home.“I went to the office for two days and read it there. I must have read it three or four times. It was a big script but I finished it in one flow because it was so engaging,” he said, adding that working with the film’s cast and director felt like a blessing.

RGV Warns Audiences Ahead of Dhurandhar 2: “This Fear Will Stay With You”

Danish calls Akshaye Khanna ‘a mystery’

Speaking about his co-star Akshaye Khanna, Danish described the actor as someone who carries a certain aura of intrigue.“If Akshaye Khanna were a mood, I would say mystery,” Danish said. “From whatever time I spent with him on the sets, he seemed like a man of few words and someone who is always thinking deeply.”

‘Ranveer Singh is pure love’

Talking about sharing screen space with Ranveer Singh, Danish said most of his scenes were with the actor and described the experience as extremely positive.“Almost 95 percent of my scenes were with him and he really took care of me,” Danish said. “He gives suggestions and inputs and allows other actors to shine. That only happens when someone is confident about their craft.”According to Danish, Ranveer’s supportive nature on set made the filming experience even more memorable.

How Hansal Mehta is championing genre storytelling with Ranveer Singh`s Pralay

Filmmaker Hansal Mehta is betting big on genre storytelling with Pralay, a post-apocalyptic zombie survival thriller starring Ranveer Singh that anchors the expanding slate of his production banner True Story Films.

Directed by Jai Mehta and produced in collaboration with Singh’s banner Maa Kasam Films, Pralay is envisioned as one of the most ambitious genre projects attempted in Indian cinema. Mehta describes the film as “a film unlike anything India has attempted before.”

About Pralay

A source had earlier revealed that Pralay would go on floors sometime between July and August 2026.

Mounted on an estimated Rs 300 crore budget, it marks Ranveer Singh`s most expensive standalone project. A source told Pinkvilla, “Ranveer has entered into a backend profit-sharing deal and is involved in every stage, from script development to VFX planning.”

Pralay reportedly follows Ranveer Singh`s fight for survival, with Mehta using the zombie framework to explore social, emotional, and moral collapse. It is said to reimagine Mumbai in The Hunger Games’ style set-up.

Insiders said the makers are planning to recreate a devastated Mumbai, blending physical sets with artificial intelligence (AI) extensions. The source elaborated, “Large sections of the city will be digitally aged, to give it an abandoned look. Parts of the film will be shot in Mumbai, before moving to other locations.”

True Story Films` Upcoming Projects

True Story Films, which Mehta launched with producer Sahil Saigal in January 2025, is rapidly building a diverse slate spanning Hindi films, regional cinema and unscripted content.

Alongside Pralay, Mehta is also directing Porbandar, an action drama set in the birthplace of Mahatma Gandhi. The film is conceived as a gritty and violent narrative that stands in stark contrast to Gandhi’s legacy.

Currently in production is Dilkashi, a romantic musical marking the Hindi debut of acclaimed filmmaker Lijo Jose Pellissery. The project is being produced with Amazon MGM Studios and features music by Oscar-winning composer A. R. Rahman. Mehta describes it as “a love story told in Pellissery’s distinctive cinematic style.”

The banner’s growing lineup also includes Kehar Singh, directed by Ajitpal Singh, and the cannibalistic horror film Mehfooz, which has completed development.

In regional cinema, the company is backing the Gujarati film Sardar Asardar, based on Indian statesman Vallabhbhai Patel, as well as the Punjabi indie Hanere de Panchi, directed by Shashank Walia.

Beyond films, True Story Films is also co-producing Family Business with Abundantia Entertainment and backing Shonali Bose’s Tongues of the Tree, starring Pratik Gandhi. The company is also developing Rasooi, an AI-powered food series.

Saigal says the company aims to function as a boutique studio focused on backing projects that excite its creators. Mehta adds that in today’s environment, bold storytelling is essential, emphasizing that “audacity wins.”

Ahead of Dhurandhar 2, revisiting Ranveer Singh-Gaurav Gera’s first meeting before they became spies Hamza and Alam

After the release of Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar, Akshaye Khanna became an overnight sensation whereas Ranveer Singh aka Hamza left fans speechless with his performance and transformation. But there was another actor in the team who dropped jaws with his versatility — Gaurav Gera, who portrayed the role of Aalam bhai, a juice shop owner in Lyari who is later introduced as Hamza’s handler. He was unrecognisable! Well, as we eagerly wait to witness Aalam bhai and Hamza’s reunion and the latter’s rise as the king of Lyari in Dhurandhar: The Revenge, let’s revisit Ranveer and Gaurav’s first meeting, much before they became spies for Aditya’s film.

Gaurav Gera and Ranveer Singh a decade before Dhurandhar
Gaurav Gera and Ranveer Singh a decade before Dhurandhar

In Dhurandhar, on reaching Lyari, Ranveer Singh as undercover agent Hamza approaches Mohammed Aalam, played by Gaurav Gera, at his juice shop. Hamza asks Aalam bhai for work but is dismissed. Later, they work together undercover. This was Aalam bhai and Hamza’s first meeting in the film. But Ranveer and Gaurav’s first meeting in real life took place a decade ago, in 2015. Back then, apart from being a beloved actor, Gaurav was an internet sensation thanks to his Shopkeeper and Chutki skit. On their first meeting, Ranveer and Gaurav hilariously recreated one such viral video, where Gaurav arrived at shopkeeper Ranveer’s shop as Chutki.

The video began with Gaurav calling out the shopkeeper, and Ranveer responding, “Haanji behenji?” Gaurav proceeded to ask for ‘inner garment, inner wear, undergarment’. When Ranveer failed to understand, an annoyed Gaurav left the Bollywood heartthrob shocked by saying, “Chaddhi chahiye.” 10 years later, they shared the screen in Dhurandhar, this time as an undercover agent in Pakistan and his handler. Under a resurfaced video of Ranveer and Gaurav as Shopkeeper and Chutki, a fan laughed, “They were Spy there also 😅,” whereas another funny comment read, “That’s from their missions in other countries.” A fan also joked, “Dhurandhar shoot day 1.”

Post the film’s release, Gaurav remembered their original first meeting and shared, “I had grown full beard and we all were sitting for the mind blowing narration , was long narration ( now we all know ) .. in the washroom break , I was sitting and RS comes from behind my chair and says .. ‘Chutki washroom jayegi ?’ I was like Leh .. meri itni Dadhi waste ho gayi 🙈 That is Him , Sadda Hamza The warm , friendly Superstar 🥰❤️.”

How excited are you to see Gaurav Gera and Ranveer Singh once again as Aalam bhai and Hamza Ali Mazari aka Jaskirat Singh Rangi in Dhurandhar’s sequel Dhurandhar: The Revenge on March 19?
