Branded as one of the weakest attacks in this season’s Indian Premier League, SunRisers Hyderabad’s bowlers banded together and fought hard to eke out a terrific victory at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Saturday, April 18.
Led by Nitish Reddy, SRH hit back strongly against the Chennai Super Kings batting unit, restricting the visiting side to 184/8 while defending 195 runs at home, in a game where nearly 80 per cent of the crowd supported the away side. CSK supporters turned Uppal yellow and made it a hostile atmosphere for the home side, which was put under pressure throughout the game with reverberating ‘CSK, CSK’ chants.

Chasing 195, CSK started brightly and raced to 76 runs in the first six overs, threatening to take the game away early. However, the visitors lost steam after the powerplay as SRH’s bowlers produced a terrific collective effort, executing their plans to perfection against the likes of Matt Short, Dewald Brevis and Shivam Dube, and steadily dragging the game deeper.
Defending 18 runs off the final six balls, uncapped pacer Praful Hinge, who had already conceded 54 runs in his first three overs, nearly lost his nerve after bowling a waist-high no-ball on the third delivery of the over. With the pressure mounting and the crowd roaring behind CSK, Hinge came clutch, holding his nerve to deliver three excellent balls and restrict the opposition to 184/8 at the end of the 20th over.
It is not an understatement to say that CSK were running away with the game early on. Young Ayush Mhatre had given them a bright start, smashing 30 off just 13 balls and putting SRH immediately on the back foot. A hamstring injury in the fifth over, however, brought his momentum to a halt, and Mhatre ended up getting dismissed on the very next ball.
Mhatre’s wicket in the fifth over, followed by captain Ruturaj Gaikwad’s dismissal in the sixth, gave SRH the perfect opening to hit back, and hit back they did, choking the life out of the CSK innings.
Nitish Reddy deserves immense credit here for bowling his heart out against CSK. He bowled full and quick, mixing it up with the occasional sharp bouncer to keep the batters uncomfortable. Nitish’s intensity caught CSK by surprise, and the side ended up surrendering the key wickets of Sanju Samson and Ayush Mhatre to him.
Once the floodgates opened, SRH brought in pacers Sakib Hussain and Ehsan Malinga to tighten the grip through the middle overs. The duo bowled full and fast, consistently getting underneath the batswing of the CSK batters and making life increasingly difficult for the opposition. Once the ball started reversing after the 15th over, it became almost impossible for the CSK batters to score, as they were not able to deal with the sideways movement of the ball. Worse, they did not really pick up the slower balls as well, which were bowled into the pitch, denying any pace to the batters in the death overs.
Alongside the pacers came Shivang Kumar, the left-arm wrist-spinner from Madhya Pradesh, also known as India’s Noor Ahmad. Shivang’s constant googlies, drifting away from the right-hander’s bat, put a real brake on CSK’s scoring rate and forced them into errors.
Malinga finished with figures of 4-0-19-3, Sakib returned 4-0-32-1, while Shivang registered figures of 3-0-18-1, including the key wicket of Dewald Brevis, who was dismissed for 0 off 4 balls.
CSK never really recovered from that collapse and eventually stuttered to 184/8 in their 20 overs.
At this time, it probably needs to be highlighted again that SRH were called one of the thinnest bowling attacks at the start of the season. And they probably are. Just that it once again was proven that even on a non-competitive deck, Indian uncapped bowlers are good enough to trouble world class hitters if they are given a solid plan.
On Saturday, the plan was simple. Bowled with good zip and try to hit the top of off stump. Show good intent. And when the time came, execute your yorkers. And that’s all it took to down CSK today. Credit must be given to the SRH management – especially Varun Aaron who was constantly in the ears of the bowlers, guiding them from the sidelines.
Chennai Super Kings had gained momentum after winning back-to-back games at home, but their train was halted once again as they failed to show bravery with the bat at the Rajiv Gandhi Uppal Stadium on Saturday.
The batting effort failed to back up the bowling unit, which has been on the money for three consecutive matches this season. On the day, CSK started well against Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head with a familiar off-spin plan, one that we have seen throughout the T20 World Cup.

Head hit a rank full toss straight to mid-off, while Kishan got tempted by a slot ball, only to lose his shape and sky it straight to Ruturaj Gaikwad.
The mood of the game, however, changed in the final ball of the eighth over, when Jamie Overton bowled to Abhishek. On the final delivery of the over, Overton beat Abhishek and the ball was pouched by Sanju Samson behind the stumps. Samson appealed, only to find no interest from either the bowler or the umpire. As the duo quickly looked to move on, Samson forced the captain to take a DRS review, which found a feather edge on Abhishek’s outside edge.
SRH, from 75/0, were suddenly 93/3 in the space of 12 balls.
After the dismissal of the top order, Heinrich Klaasen anchored the innings, but was not able to do a lot of damage due to disciplined bowling from the CSK unit. Jamie Overton was the real hero here, bowling rockets at 150 kmph and hitting the batters hard from a good length.
Where the CSK bowlers really shone was in the death overs, where they executed that round-the-wicket yorker plan against the SRH batters, giving away less than 20 runs in the last three overs.
Liam Livingstone, brought in as an Impact Sub, played a horror innings, getting dismissed on the final delivery for a score of just 1 run off 5 balls.
However, the CSK middle order was not able to live up to the bowling standards as they threw away their chase of 195 runs.
After the game, CSK remained in seventh spot in the IPL table, while SRH moved up to fourth spot, with three wins from six matches.

A gunman who killed at least six people in Kyiv and took hostages has been shot dead by Ukrainian police, officials said.
The attack occurred on Saturday in the capital’s Holosiivskyi district, where the assailant opened fire on civilians in the street before barricading himself inside a nearby supermarket, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said on Telegram.

Special tactical police units stormed the supermarket after roughly 40 minutes of failed negotiations, Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko said on Telegram. The gunman shot at police officers during the standoff.
“We tried to persuade him, knowing that there was likely a wounded person inside,” Klymenko told The Associated Press news agency. “We even offered to bring in tourniquets to stop the bleeding, but he did not respond.”
Ultimately, authorities were given the order to “neutralise” the attacker, he said.
At least 10 others were hospitalised, including one child, and four hostages were rescued, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in a post on X.
Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko said the attacker was a 58-year-old born in Moscow.
Klymenko said the man was carrying a legally registered gun and had approached licensing authorities as recently as December 2025 to renew his weapons permit, submitting a valid medical certificate at the time. He added that investigators would determine which medical institution issued the document.
Zelenskyy offered his condolences to the families of the victims, saying he had instructed officials to make all verified information publicly available. “We expect a swift investigation,” he wrote.

New Delhi: As Delhi Capitals were moments away from getting back to winning ways, David Miller was probably having a flashback of the game against Gujarat Titans. He had pretty much done it all before erring and failing to get two runs off two balls. This time, against high-flying Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Miller redeemed himself as DC sealed a six-wicket win with a ball to spare.
With 15 needed in the last over, Miller joined his South Africa team-mate Tristan Stubbs (60*) to take his team past the line. Bowling the last over, Romario Shepherd erred with full tosses that Miller had no trouble seeing off with two sixes and a four in a row. He stuck the penultimate ball of the match for a boundary to seal their third win in five games.
Earlier, with 176 to chase, DC were off to a bad start. Bhuvneshwar Kumar was on fire as he took a three-fer in the Powerplay, reducing DC to 18/3. But KL Rahul (57), on his home ground, and the calm and composed Tristan Stubbs (60*) got together and put the innings back on track.
Rahul, playing at a venue so familiar from his junior days, batted beautifully and looked set to take his side home when he holed out taking on a bouncer by Krunal Pandya, Virat Kohli completing a fine catch at long-off.
Skipper Axar Patel (26) played a handy cameo but battled cramps and eventually had to retire hurt. In came Miller and at that phase RCB kept it tight and conceded 14 off the three overs. But in the last over, Miller’s power-hitting and finishing prowess did the job for DC. It was only the second loss for defending champions RCB, who are second with eight points.
“It feels really good. To get one from the other night. I was just a bit disappointed a couple of games ago, but to get myself back in that position, it was good to get over the line,” Miller told the broadcaster after the match. “It’s always going to be there at the back of the mind until you actually win another game. That’s our take. And it has been a couple of games, we obviously have a week off, so I’ve worked on a few things, just trying to stay in the moment as well and do what I can.
“It’s always good finishing off games with Stubbo. We batted a lot together and he just said thanks so much, you saved me there. But I thought he batted unbelievably well. He anchored the innings all the way through. He was calm. He’s got great technique and is very powerful. So, for him being there was massive for us,” he added.
RCB signed off at 175/8 after an innings that ebbed and flowed. The home side were well set early on, riding on Phil Salt’s fluent 63 off 38 deliveries that anchored the first half and hinted at a much bigger total. Kohli, on the other end, started well but fell to Lungi Ngidi.
The South Africa pacer bowled a scrambled seam delivery on length outside off. Kohli shimmied down the track to try and go over the infield but with the placement going wrong, found himself caught at deep cover.
Salt had provided impetus after a watchful start, stitching together a 52-run opening stand with Kohli and then adding 47 with Devdutt Padikkal. But just as the platform seemed laid, DC applied the brakes expertly through the middle and at the death. Salt’s acceleration in the Powerplay, particularly against pacer Auqib Nabi, lifted RCB to 59/1 despite Kohli’s early departure.
However, after that, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav and Ngidi led the squeeze with two wickets apiece, varying pace and lengths cleverly on a slightly two-paced Chinnaswamy surface. Once Padikkal and Salt fell in quick succession, Delhi seized control. The slowdown was evident as RCB, who had reached 99/2 at the halfway mark, managed only 76 runs in the final 10 overs.
Skipper Rajat Patidar and Tim David threatened briefly but couldn’t convert their starts as disciplined bowling and sharp fielding ensured RCB never regained momentum.
The slide was most pronounced at the back end, RCB losing four wickets for 29 runs in the last five overs. Delhi were particularly clinical at the death, conceding just eight runs in the final two overs to rule out a possibility of any late surge.
Eventually, the target proved well within reach as DC chased it down to climb to fourth spot.

Last year, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan moved out of his iconic Bandra bungalow, Mannat, albeit temporarily. The sea-facing property, which Shah Rukh bought in the late 1990s, is undergoing renovation. During this time, Shah Rukh and his family have moved to four floors in Puja Casa, an apartment building nearby. Shah Rukh has leased these floors from film producer Vashu Bhagnani and his son, Jackky Bhagnani, making them SRK’s ‘landlords’ for now. Recently, Jackky opened up about Shah Rukh in an interview with Bollywood Bubble.
When asked about his new ‘tenant’, Jackky said, “Look, according to me, I just pray that I can become as good a human being as Shah Rukh sir. The level of stardom he has—and his demeanour—you can’t even imagine.”
The actor-producer added that he was a fan of Shah Rukh’s humility and ability to make you feel important. “When you meet him, and he talks to you, he only talks to you. That is very validating for a human being. You could be anyone. He is present. Principally, he is 11 on 10. Whenever you go to meet him, no matter who you are, he will personally walk you out till the end. Generally, people think, ‘I am Shah Rukh Khan, I’ll behave a certain way. In March 2025, Shah Rukh, along with wife Gauri and their three children, moved out of their bungalow Mannat. Sourced told HT that the iconic bungalow was set to undergo a massive renovation. This includes a long-proposed extension of the bungalow, for which Shah Rukh had to get the court’s permission. Mannat is a Grade III heritage structure, and any structural change can only take place after securing proper permissions. The renovation eventually began in May.
Shah Rukh’s Red Chillies Entertainment entered into a leave and licence agreement with Bhagnani’s actor son, Jackky Bhagnani and his daughter, Deepshika Deshmukh, who co-owns the property, Puja Casa. The Khans have rented two duplex apartments in the building for ₹24 lakh per month for three years. Sources informed that the four floors house not just the Khan family but also their security and staff, and even have some office space. “It is clearly not as capacious as Mannat; there is enough space to accommodate his security and other staff,” said a source. Sources added that the renovation in Mannat may take up to two years.

SRH started with a bang as their openers gave them a fast start, but couldn`t build on that momentum later in the innings. Abhishek Sharma scored a blistering 59 runs in just 22 balls.
For CSK, Jamie Overton was the best bowler, taking 3 wickets for 37 runs. Mukesh Choudhary chipped in with 2 wickets too.
After winning the toss, Ruturaj Gaikwad decided to bowl first on a flat wicket. The CSK captain added that his team will be looking to continue their recent good form.
“We are going to bowl first. Looks like a really good track, won`t change much so we look to chase. Good to be up from the bottom. From the second game, we started doing the basics right. The key is to be consistent.” Gaikwad said.
