SRH vs RR: Riyan Parag explains not using Ravindra Jadeja to bowl at Hyderabad

Riyan Parag admitted that his decision to not use Ravindra Jadeja with the ball was a “split second” call as Rajasthan Royals went down to Sunrisers Hyderabad in Hyderabad.

The call became a major talking point after Rajasthan allowed SRH to post 216 for 6, with Jadeja not bowling a single over despite conditions offering some assistance to slower bowlers later in the innings.

IPL 2026, SRH vs RR: HIGHLIGHTS | SCORECARD

Explaining the decision, Parag pointed to the match situation and the impact of Ishan Kishan, who was in dominant touch during the middle overs.

“Jaddu bhai, I don’t know, it was just a split second decision. Ishan was batting really well, so I didn’t want to take that chance,” Parag said, adding that he chose to persist with other options instead.

In hindsight, the move raised questions, especially as SRH capitalised on the lack of spin variation to build a strong total. Kishan’s 91 anchored the innings after early wickets, allowing the hosts to recover and accelerate.

Parag, however, felt the surface itself played a role in shaping his decisions. He noted that the pitch had some assistance early on with the new ball before easing out, which made the timing of bowling changes tricky.

While Jadeja did not get an opportunity with the ball, he made a strong contribution with the bat, scoring 45 and stitching together a 118 run stand with Donovan Ferreira to steady the innings after Rajasthan’s early collapse.

Despite that recovery, Rajasthan’s biggest setback came with the bat. Chasing 217, they slumped to 9 for 5 inside the first three overs, effectively taking the game out of their reach.

The Royals did manage a partial fightback through the middle order, but the early damage proved too steep to overturn. The collapse also highlighted the impact of SRH’s young bowlers, who capitalised on the pressure from the outset.

Parag acknowledged that while a few decisions could have been handled differently, the defeat was more down to overall execution rather than one specific call.

The Royals skipper also credited the opposition’s young seamers for setting the tone early, noting how well they handled pressure in front of a home crowd.

For Rajasthan, the focus now shifts to regrouping quickly after what was, in Parag’s view, a minor setback in an otherwise strong campaign.

Hezbollah leader urges Lebanon’s government to pull out of Israel talks | Hezbollah News

Naim Qassem says planned talks in Washington, DC, are a ploy to pressure Hezbollah into laying down its weapons.

Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem has rejected an upcoming meeting between the Lebanese government and Israel in the United States, calling such efforts “futile” as Israeli forces intensify their attacks on Lebanon.

In a televised speech on Monday, Qassem called on the government to take “a historic and heroic stance” by not attending the planned talks.

The Lebanese and Israeli ambassadors to the US are scheduled to meet in Washington, DC, on Tuesday to discuss holding direct negotiations between the two countries.

Qassem said the talks are a ploy to pressure Hezbollah into laying down its weapons.

“Israel clearly states that the goal of these negotiations is to disarm Hezbollah, as [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu repeatedly states. So, how can you go to negotiations whose objective is already clear?” Qassem said.

“We will not rest, stop or surrender. Instead, we will let the battlefield speak for itself,” he added.

Israel intensified its war on Lebanon in early March following a salvo of rockets launched by Hezbollah. A ceasefire between Israel and the Iran-backed group had ostensibly been in effect since November 2024, but Israel continued carrying out near-daily deadly attacks.

Hezbollah said its March 2 attack was retaliation for the US and Israel’s killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei two days earlier, on the first day of the US-Israel war on Iran.

Since then, Israel’s bombardment of Lebanon and a ground invasion in the south have killed at least 2,055 people, including 165 children and 87 medical workers. More than 6,500 others have been wounded, while some 1.2 million have been forced from their homes.

Lebanese authorities insist the priority is to secure a ceasefire, but Israel has said it wants to open formal peace negotiations with Lebanon. It has placed Hezbollah’s disarmament as a priority, with no mention of a ceasefire or withdrawal of its forces from southern Lebanon.

“We want the dismantling of Hezbollah’s weapons, and we want a real peace agreement that will last for generations,” Netanyahu said on Saturday.

Qassem said the planned talks “require a Lebanese consensus to shift our approach from non-negotiation to direct negotiations”, calling them a “free concession” to Israel and the US.

His speech came after hundreds of people in the capital, Beirut, protested on Friday and Saturday against the planned talks. Demonstrators accused Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam of betraying the Lebanese people by holding direct talks with Israel, while it continues its bombing campaign and expands its invasion.

The Israeli military on Monday said its forces had completely surrounded the key southern town of Bint Jbeil, while Hezbollah continued to claim attacks against Israeli forces there.

Qassem said that northern Israeli localities “will not be safe, even if the Israelis were to enter any area of Lebanon”. He also accused Beirut of “backstabbing” his group by declaring Hezbollah’s military activities illegal at the start of the war.

“Israel and the US clearly said they want to strengthen the Lebanese army to disarm and fight Hezbollah … but the army cannot do that,” Qassem added.

IPL 2026: Kareena Kapoor removes MI jersey after RCB wins

On Sunday, 13 April, Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bengaluru faced each other at the Wankhede Stadium. Several celebrities were seen in attendance for the match, including Kareena Kapoor and her family. RCB posted a total of 240 runs, defeating MI.

A user on X posted a video of a dejected Kareena leaving the stadium and heading towards her car after the match had ended. The user was quick to notice that Kareena had removed the MI jersey that she was wearing earlier after the team`s defeat. However, the clip also showed Ibrahim Ali Khan, Taimur and Saif walking behind her, all of whom were still sporting their MI jerseys.

She wrote, “Kareena Kapoor came to the stadium wearing MI jersey, but after MI lost to RCB, she removed it out of embarrassment. RCB literally cooked whole Mumbai (laughing emoji).”

Celebs at the MI vs RCB match

Anushka Sharma was seen cheering for her husband Virat Kohli`s team, RCB. She looked stunning in a black t-shirt and white pants for the match night. She was seen with Ananya Birla at the stands.

Varun Dhawan was seen at the stadium in a simple white t-shirt and denim. The actor was accompanied by Pooja Hegde, the co-star of his upcoming film Hai Jawaani Toh Ishq Hona Hai. Varun later sat beside former cricketer Harbhajan Singh. Pooja was seen enjoying the game dressed in a white tank top and denims.

Popular YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia was present with his girlfriend.

Hardik Pandya`s girlfriend, Mahieka Sharma, was also captured at the Wankhede Stadium, animatedly cheering him on.

RCB`s batting highlights

Phil Salt was at his attacking best at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday night, taking RCB way past the 200-mark (240-4) against MI.

Put in to bat, Salt (36-ball 78, 6×4, 6×6) was fearless. He took only 10 singles and four doubles during his knock, while as many as 60 runs came through fours and sixes.

Salt`s half-century came in a mere 25 balls, through a cracking four off spinner Mayank Markande, between long-on and deep mid-wicket. Salt and opening partner Virat Kohli’s partnership was worth 71 after just six overs. Shardul Thakur eventually broke the 120-run opening stand, dismissing Salt through MI captain Hardik Pandya at covers.

Kohli (38-ball 50, 5×4, 1×6) and skipper Rajat Patidar (20-ball 53, 4×4, 5×6) also helped themselves to half-centuries.

Kohli, who was beaten on the very first ball he faced while trying to flick Boult, showcased some exemplary wrist work and footwork to hit the pacer for a couple of boundaries. Kohli reached his second 50 of this IPL in 37 balls.

Earlier, players from both MI and RCB teams wore black armbands and observed a minute’s silence to pay tribute to legendary singer Asha Bhosle, who passed away on Sunday.

IPL: Ishan, Hinge and Hussain shine as SRH floor high-flying RR

Kolkata: In a format unabashedly partial towards batters, uncapped Indian pacers Praful Hinge and Sakib Hussain made it a night to remember by scything through Rajasthan Royals’ famed batting line-up on their debut to help carve a 57-run win for Sunrisers Hyderabad on Monday.

Hussain took 4/24 after Hinge scalped 4/34 while becoming the first bowler in IPL history to take three wickets in the first over of the innings. Reduced to 9 for five wickets, Royal’s chase was over even before it started.

That they still managed to score 159 is a validation of their lower middle-order that hadn’t been tested before this, especially the pair of Ravindra Jadeja and Donovan Ferreira who added a record-breaking 118 runs for the sixth wicket.

But men of the moment were Sunrisers’ rank-new seamers after Ishan Kishan’s 44-ball 91 propelled them to an imposing 216/6. Royals were 159 all out with an over to spare.

The required rate mandated a risky start, but Royals failed to factor in the unfamiliarity of Hinge as they took him on straightaway. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi tried to pull Hinge but the ball got big on him and caught the top-edge of his bat. Dhruv Jurel drove on his first ball towards cover point, but the next ball he tried to open the face of his bat but instead got a thick inside edge that clattered into his stumps. Next ball, Lhuan-dre Pretorius got a full delivery on his pads and expectedly flicked it, but probably too well and high to pick out Nitish Reddy at deep backward square-leg.

As if three wickets in the first over wasn’t enough, Yashasvi Jaiswal tried to take on a short ball from Hussain with a massive slash but couldn’t clear Reddy at deep backward point. Skipper Riyan Parag’s dismissal was more conventional in the sense that Hinge’s outswing did it in. Lured by the width, Parag hit out but as luck would have had it, he only got a thick edge that Abhishek caught at wide slip. Hussain returned to bowl Ferreira before quickly dismissing Jofra Archer and Ravi Bishnoi to make it an IPL debut to remember.

Considering the thrills provided by Hinge and Hussain, Sunrisers had a comparatively quieter start in that their first boundary came only off the 10th delivery of the innings. Ten balls faced and only on nine, Travis Head had to get a move on after Abhishek Sharma was removed first ball. But the Aussie too finished with an 18-ball 18.

By then Kishan had unleashed himself with unmistakable confidence, picking his battles and vacant areas to score effortlessly. Heinrich Klaasen provided the perfect support as they added 88 runs for the third wicket. He finished with a 26-ball 40. That, backed by a 13-ball 28 from Nitish Reddy and 24* off 13 balls from Salil Arora meant Sunrisers had more than enough to challenge Royals.

Brief scores: SRH 216/6 (Ishan Kishan 91, Heinrich Klaasen 40, Jofra Archer 2/37). RR 159 all out in 19 ovs (Ravindra Jadeja 45, Donovan Ferreira 69, Praful Hinge 4/34, Sakib Hussain 4/24, Eshan Malinga 2/31). SRH won by 57 runs.

Justin Baldoni and Melissa Nathan ask court to bar references to past clients like Johnny Depp; Blake Lively files motions to exclude networth in upcoming trial

As Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni gear up to go to court next month for their scheduled trial, the two ‘It Ends With Us’ stars have put forth their motions weeks before proceedings are set to begin in a federal court in New York City.Justin Baldoni asks court to exclude refferences of past clientsAs per reports on Deadline, Baldoni and members of the Melissa Nathan-led crisis PR team have asked the court to exclude references to their past high-profile clients. They have further asked that any mention of alleged “smear websites” be avoided from being presented to the jury, citing that they “are irrelevant and prejudicial because Lively does not allege that such mechanism was utilized (by any of the defendants) against her.”The request comes as they face claims of retaliation, breach of contract, and aiding and abetting in what has been described as a 2024 online ‘smear campaign’ against Lively.Court documents reveal motionAs per the report, the filing states, “Any services that Nathan rendered for actor Johnny Depp in connection with his high-profile defamation litigation against ex-wife Amber Heard, for other celebrities such as rappers Drake and Travis Scott, professional wrestler Logan Paul, and actress Rebel Wilson, for politicians, or for other clients are irrelevant to whether she aided and abetted the purported smear campaign at issue herein, as alleged by Lively.”Baldoni’s legal team is also seeking to prevent testimony from ‘It Ends With Us’ actors Jenny Slate and Isabela Ferrer from being heard by the jury.Blake Lively asks to bar jury from knowing her networthOn the other hand, TMZ reports that Blake Lively has filed motions of her own, requesting that any references to her and Reynolds’ networth be excluded from the trial. Legal documents indicate that the actress has asked the judge to bar all evidence regarding their “net worth and financial status,” amid concerns it could influence how a jury perceives her claims.Lively has alleged over USD 161 million in losses as a result of the alleged smear campaign. However, as per reports early this month, as the judge threw out her defamation claim and sexual harrasment allegations, it’s unclear if her alleged ‘compensation’ is relevant. Nonetheless, she’s still allowed to present her claims, including retaliation tied to her allegations of a hostile work environment on the film’s set.No ‘Nicepool’ refference in trialShe has also sought to block any mention of Reynolds’ “Nicepool” character from ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’, which Baldoni’s team had reportedly intended to argue about the couple’s bullying behaviour. However, TMZ reports that a judge had previously ruled that the evidence is irrelevant. With both sides continuing to file motions, the possibility of a last-minute settlement remains. Meanwhile, the trial is expected to begin on May 18.

Iran said that it has “good contact” with India over the passage of ships from the Strait of Hormuz and wants to help New Delhi with navigation. It also denied charging toll for Indian tankers while transiting through the Strait of Hormuz.Iranian ambassador to India, Mohammad Fathali, in a press briefing, said that Iran and India “share the same fate and interests,” and the two nations maintain strong ties amidst the challenging times.

“In this difficult time, we have good relations. We believe Iran and India share common interests and a common fate,” Fathali said. He further stressed that Iran never charged India for the passage of its ships through the Hormuz after US President Donald Trump vowed to block passage for vessels making payments to Iran. He said, “You can ask the Indian government if we have charged anything up to now.”New Delhi, on various occasions, has also denied ever paying toll for the passage of its nine ships through the waterway. It has secured nine liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) tankers since Iran has barred the passage of tankers, while 15 India-flagged ships remain stuck in the Persian Gulf.Detailing the further navigation of Indian tankers from the strait, the ambassador said that Iran wants to help India navigate the passage of tankers. The envoy further said that Iran is ready to sell its oil to any country that wants to purchase it.“Iran has oil and is ready to sell to any country that wants it,” he said.Notably, about half of India’s crude oil and LPG supplies pass through the Strait of Hormuz.Additionally, amid the temporary waiver from the United States on oil purchases from Tehran, New Delhi received its first Iranian oil in 7 years, according to the ship tracking data reported by Reuters. According to the reports, two very large crude carriers loaded with Iranian oil have reached Indian ports. The developments come after Donald Trump announced on Sunday that the United States would begin blockading all Iranian Gulf ports on Monday at 1400 GMT, a deadline that has now passed. The blockade would restrict all ships going to or coming from the Iranian ports from passing through the Strait of Hormuz. He also issued a fresh warning that any Iranian ship near the blockade would be “immediately eliminated.”“Warning: If any of these ships come anywhere close to our BLOCKADE, they will be immediately ELIMINATED, using the same system of kill that we use against the drug dealers on boats at Sea. It is quick and brutal,” he wrote in a post on Truth Social.Other ships would not be facing the restrictions as per the announcement.

Rajpal Yadav reveals he learnt about Om Shanti Om misunderstanding on Billu set

Rajpal Yadav is back to the movies after a tough start to the year. The actor spent some time in Tihar Jail in a cheque bounce case. Now, he is looking forward to his upcoming releases, with Priyadarshan’s Bhooth Bangla being a major one. The film, co-starring Akshay Kumar, will be released in theatres on April 17.

Rajpal Yadav on Om Shaanti Om

Ahead of the release of Bhooth Bangla, Rajpal Yadav spoke about the roles he regretted missing out on. He revealed that he lost out on a role in Om Shanti Om due to a misunderstanding with lead actor Shah Rukh Khan. He added that he only learned about the issue when Billu went on floors. The Priyadarshan directorial starred Irrfan Khan and Shah Rukh Khan. Rajpal revealed that he was supposed to play the titular character in the film, but the role eventually went to Irrfan Khan.

In an interaction with Zoom, Rajpal said, “Billu Barber ka pura production dekhte the Juhi Chawla ke brother. Voh shaam ko bethe the hum toh mujhe gale mile aur bole bhai (SRK) se mil lena. Bhai aapko bahut pyaar karte hain. Jab hum Kal Ho Naa Ho main kaam kiya, toh Shah Rukh bhai ne bola tha kabhi ek lamba, koi badiya track karenge kyunki ek scene main itna maza aaya. Maine kaha main toh dupehr main hi mila tha, Unhone kaha thoda kuch confusion hai. Toh maine kaha kya? Bole voh role likhwaya tha unhone aapke liye aur voh aapne mana kardiya keh ke time nahi hai (The entire production of Billu Barber was being handled by Juhi Chawla’s brother. One evening, he met me, hugged me, and said, `You should meet bhai. He loves you a lot. When we had worked together in Kal Ho Naa Ho, Shah Rukh Khan had told me that someday we would do a longer, substantial track together because he had enjoyed doing that one scene with me so much. I said I had met him only that afternoon. Then he said there seemed to be some confusion. I asked what happened. He told me that he had specifically asked for a role to be written for me, but apparently I had declined it saying I did not have the time).”

How Rajpal sorted things with SRK

Rajpal recalled that he immediately called his manager to find out if anything like that had happened. He said, “Unhe bhi pata nahi tha. aur mujhe bhi nahi pata tha. Pata laga ki vahan pe kisi ne bitching karke aur Om Shanti Om ke liye meri tasveer dusri pesh kardi. Pata bhi nahi SRK ko aur mujhe bhi pata nahi. Toh yeh Bollywood hai ismein aise 10-20 kisse ho jaate hain. Aur main aur Shah Rukh Khan gale mile uske baad jaise koi lafda hi nahi (He did not know about it, and neither did I. It turned out that someone had been bi**hing there, and I was presented negatively in front of Shah Rukh bhai for Om Shanti Om. Neither Shah Rukh Khan knew about it, nor did I. So this is Bollywood, 10 to 20 such incidents happen here. After that, Shah Rukh Khan and I hugged it out as if there had never been any issue at all).”

Meanwhile, Rajpal Yadav’s next is Bhooth Bangla with Akshay Kumar, Tabu, Paresh Rawal, and Wamiqa Gabbi. Rajpal has acted in several films directed by Priyadarshan and has played some of the most memorable characters of his career in these films.

IPL 2026: Riyan Parag wins the toss; RR elect to bowl first against SRH

Rajasthan Royals won the toss and elected to bowl first against the Sunrisers Hyderabad. The two teams are facing off at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.

RR are at the top of the IPL league table, having won 4 out of their opening 4 matches. Meanwhile, SRH are struggling with only 1 win in the season so far.

After winning the toss, Riyan Parag was happy to bowl first and chase the score later. The RR skipper added that he wants his team to continue their momentum after starting the season with a bang.

“We’ll be bowling first. A new wicket for us, first time it’s been used this season as well. So hopefully there’s a little bit of stickiness at the start. We’ve chased down a lot of totals here. We fell short in 2024, so hopefully not the case this time. We’ve got two changes. Brijesh steps out, and Tushar Deshpande comes in. Hetty gets a rest, and Pretorius makes his debut. It’s been a journey. I was under (Sanju Samson) Bhaiya for the longest time, and then Sanga did really well in improving me with all the decisions and involved me in all the tactical and strategic meetings. Now I think I’ve taken the onus up. Had to make a lot of tough calls, but happy to be here.” Parag said.

Ishan Kishan said that he would have opted to bowl first as well if he had won the toss. The Indian star will hope that SRH can get the much-needed two points in their match today after a defeat last time out.

“We’ve got two changes from the last game, Henge coming in. I think I’ve been doing this for a long time. I was a leader in Under-19 India, I’ve been doing it for my state team, and I think it makes you more aware of the situation, more focused on the game. You look to do more for your team because it’s never about individual performance; it’s always about teamwork. I think obviously it makes a difference when you’re the captain of the team, and you’ve been doing well. It shows a lot of maturity that a player has a certain amount of growth in him now. So it did help me a bit in the last few years when I’ve been a leader of my side and done well for the team,” Kishan said.

Confirmed Playing XI for both teams:

Sunrisers Hyderabad (Playing XI): Abhishek Sharma, Travis Head, Ishan Kishan(w/c), Heinrich Klaasen, Salil Arora, Aniket Verma, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Harsh Dubey, Shivang Kumar, Praful Hinge, Eshan Malinga

Rajasthan Royals (Playing XI): Yashasvi Jaiswal, Dhruv Jurel(w), Riyan Parag(c), Lhuan-dre Pretorius, Donovan Ferreira, Ravindra Jadeja, Jofra Archer, Nandre Burger, Sandeep Sharma, Ravi Bishnoi, Tushar Deshpande
