Samsung Galaxy A16 5G and 4G variants are expected to launch as successors to the Galaxy A15 5G and the Galaxy A15 4G handsets. Details about the purported smartphones have surfaced online recently. Earlier leaks have shown probable design renders of the 5G option and suggested the expected launch timeline of the 4G version. The likely pricing of the rumoured Galaxy A16 4G has also been tipped. Now, a report has leaked the key features of the 5G and 4G variants of Galaxy A16.

The Samsung Galaxy A16 4G and the Galaxy A16 5G are expected to sport 6.7-inch full-HD+ (2,340 x 1,080 pixels) Super AMOLED screens with a 90Hz refresh rate, according to a report by Saminsider. This suggests that the rumoured handsets will get larger displays than the existing Galaxy A15 phones with 6.5-inch screens.

The report claims that the 4G variant of the Galaxy A16 is expected to be powered by the MediaTek Helio G99, the same chipset that its predecessor carries. Meanwhile, the Galaxy A16 5G is tipped to get an Exynos 1330 SoC. The 5G version is expected to support up to 1.5TB storage expansion via a microSD card, and the 4G option is said to support only up to 1TB. 

Apart from the chipset and extended storage support, the Samsung Galaxy A16 handsets are expected to share similar features. The phones will likely have 4GB of RAM and 128GB onboard storage support. They are expected to run on an Android-based user interface like all other Samsung smartphones.

For optics, the 4G and 5G variants of the Samsung Galaxy A16 phones will likely carry triple rear camera units, including a 50-megapixel primary sensor, a 5-megapixel sensor with an ultra-wide lens and a 2-megapixel macro shooter. The front cameras of the purported handsets are said to house 13-megapixel sensors.

Ahead of its imminent debut, the Chinese smartphone maker has confirmed key specifications of the upcoming handset, including its battery, camera, display, and processor, via its social media handles. The Redmi K80 Pro is said to be powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Elite processor and its optics unit will be headlined by a 50-megapixel telephoto camera with 2.5x optical zoom.

In subsequent posts on the Chinese social media platform Weibo, Redmi confirmed that its upcoming Redmi K80 Pro will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset along with the company’s proprietary Rage Engine 4.0, D1 graphics chip, and dual-loop 3D ice cooling. Courtesy of these upgrades, the handset is claimed to have an AnTuTu benchmark score of 31,94,766.

For optics, the Redmi K80 Pro will sport a triple rear camera setup, comprising a Light Hunter 800 primary camera with optical image stabilisation (OIS), a 50-megapixel floating telephoto lens with 2.5x optical zoom and 10cm macro capability, and a 32-megapixel ultra-wide angle sensor with a 120-degree field of view (FoV). The optics will be powered by the Xiaomi AISP 2.0 platform which brings the second-generation FusionLM, ToneLM, ColorLM, and PortraitLM models for improved camera performance.

The handset is also confirmed to be equipped with a 2K display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a hole-punch design. Redmi says it will be protected by Xiaomi Dragon Crystal Glass 2.0 and will also feature IP68 and IP69 ratings against dust and water ingress. For security, an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor has also been provided on the Redmi K80 Pro.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor was released on April 28 across PC and current-gen consoles, with the former version getting bombarded with negative reviews on Steam on launch day. The reviews on Steam focus on the game’s poor performance on PC, causing choppy framerates even during less-populated interior segments (Gadgets 360 can confirm performance issues on PC). While the day-one patch made things like cutscenes smoother, as per several players, Jedi Survivor was still unable to maintain a consistent 60 fps, even on the lowest settings. Developer Respawn Entertainment has now issued an apology, confirming that its team will continue monitoring performance “across all platforms” and release patches in time. For the record, the PS5 and Xbox Series S/X versions aren’t devoid of performance issues either — just nowhere on par with the PC version.

“We are aware that Star Wars Jedi: Survivor isn’t performing to our standards for a percentage of our PC players, in particular those with high-end machines or certain specific configurations,” the tweet reads. “For example, players using cutting-edge, multi-threaded chipsets designed for Windows 11 were encountering problems on Windows 10, or high-end GPUs coupled with lower-performing CPUs also saw unexpected frame loss.” While the response is certainly backed by an apology, it feels a little accusatory — as if it has to do with how a player has configured their setup. This is compounded by the fact that the game was originally slated for a March 17 release and was then delayed by six weeks to ensure polish at launch.

Respawn Entertainment will now divert focus towards fixing the issues, but note that it will take some time for ‘significant testing,’ so the updates don’t introduce new problems. It is also odd how the developer deemed running Windows 10 on newer CPUs as the cause for the issue — to my knowledge, there isn’t a significant downside to it. Plus, a quick perusal of Steam’s Hardware Survey page will show that 73.95 percent of PC players still use Windows 10 as their primary operating system. The game’s DRM has also been reportedly posing issues for PC players, locking players out of the game because the technology believes that the Star Wars Jedi: Survivor app had been open on multiple systems at once. Even the PS5 version is laggy and its HDR system completely destroys the image quality — to the point where things are cast entirely in black.

A more recent example of a broken PC port is The Last of Us Part I, which also opened to negative reception on Steam, due to crashes, choppy framerates, and odd overconsumption of the VRAM. Since launch, developer Naughty Dog has released a host of new patches and hotfixes, which have seemingly improved the performance a lot. Let’s see how long Respawn takes to dole out their fixes.
