Apple launched its refreshed 2023 MacBook Pro and the 24-inch iMac computers with the new M3 chip on October 30. The MacBook Pro models are available in 14-inch and 16-inch display size options, while they are also offered in processor variants of M3, M3 Pro, and M3 Max. These computers are now available for purchase in India starting today, November 7. Here are the price details of the models and each of their variants.

24-inch iMac with M3, MacBook Pro (2023) M3 price in India, availability

The 8-core GPU variant of the 24-inch iMac with M3 starts in India at Rs. 1,34,900, while the 10-core GPU variant of the same with a 256GB storage option is listed at Rs. 1,54,900. The 512GB model of the 10-core GPU option is priced in the country at Rs. 1,74,900. It is offered in Blue, Green, Orange, Pink, Purple, Silver, and Yellow colours.

Apple’s 14-inch MacBook Pro M3 model with a 10-core GPU and 512GB storage is listed at Rs. 1,69,900, while the 1TB variant of the same is priced at Rs. 1,89,900.

MacBook Pro 14-inch with an M3 Pro chip and 14-core GPU is marked in the country at Rs. 1,99,900, while the 18-core GPU option is available for Rs. 2,39,900. The top-of-the-line 14-inch MacBook Pro with M3 Max processor and 30-core GPU is priced at Rs. 3,19,900. These models are available in Silver and Space Grey colourways.

Meanwhile, the 18GB + 512GB option of the 16-inch MacBook Pro M3 with an M3 Pro chip is being offered in India at Rs. 2,49,900, while the 36GB + 512GB variant is listed at Rs. 2,89,900. The MacBook Pro models with the M3 Max chips are also available in two options – 36GB + 1TB and 48GB + 1TB, respectively priced at Rs. 3,49,900 and Rs. 3,99,900, respectively. These models are offered in Space Black and Silver colour options.

All these computers are available for sale in India starting today, November 7 via the official Apple website, Apple Stores, and Apple-authorised resellers.

24-inch iMac M3, MacBook Pro (2023) specifications, features

The all-in-one 24-inch iMac with an M3 chip sports a 24-inch 4.5K Retina Display and has a peak brightness level of 500 nits. It supports Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, up to four USB Type-C ports, two Thunderbolt ports, and Gigabit Ethernet connectivity. It is equipped with a 1080p FaceTime camera and offers a six-speaker unit with support for Spatial Audio and Dolby Atmos. It ships with the new macOS Sonoma.

The 2023 MacBook Pro models are offered in chip variants of M3, M3 Pro, and M3 Max. They come in 14-inch and 16-inch Liquid Retina XDR (3,024×1,964 pixels) displays with a refresh rate of 120Hz and a peak brightness level of 1,600 nits (HDR) and 600 nits (SDR). These models have a backlit keyboard and are also equipped with Touch ID support for biometric authentication.

All these models come with Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, Thunderbolt 4/ USB 4, MagSafe 3 charging, SDXC card reader, and HDMI connectivity options. They also come with a 3.5mm audio jack.

The 14-inch MacBook Pro M3 model claims to offer up to 22 hours of battery life, while the M3 Pro and M3 Max models are said to offer up to 18 hours. The 16-inch MacBook Pro models, on the other hand, have longer battery life, with the M3 Pro and M3 Max chip variants claiming to offer up to 22 hours of support.

Physicists at CERN have made a significant step forward in the challenge of transporting antimatter. In a breakthrough experiment, the team demonstrated the ability to move unstable particles using a specially designed trap. This marks the first successful test of transporting particles across CERN’s facilities, which could lay the foundation for shipping antimatter to other research laboratories in the future.

BASE-STEP Trap Used for First Test

The experiment, conducted in late October, involved the movement of 70 protons – subatomic particles that share similar challenges to antimatter in terms of handling and storage. The study from CERN revealed that using the BASE-STEP trap, the particles were placed in a vacuum chamber and transported on a truck across CERN’s premises without being disrupted. The report further mentioned that the success of the test was seen as a promising indication that a similar approach could be applied to antiprotons, the antimatter counterpart to protons, which are notoriously difficult to contain due to their tendency to annihilate upon contact with matter.

Future Plans for Antimatter Transport

Christian Smorra, a CERN physicist leading the BASE-STEP project, stated in a statement that while the test was conducted with protons, the process is expected to work with antiprotons as well, though additional precautions will be needed. These include a more robust vacuum chamber to ensure the antimatter remains stable during transport.

Antimatter is typically produced at CERN’s Antiproton Decelerator (AD) facility and stored in magnetic fields to prevent it from touching matter. The BASE experiment has already proven capable of storing antimatter for extended periods, but transporting it to different labs has posed a significant challenge. With the development of BASE-STEP, physicists now have a portable version of this technology, designed to protect the particles from the jostling they would experience during transport.

Looking Ahead to 2025

The next stage for CERN’s research team is to transport antiprotons in early 2025, with plans for further refinements to the technology. Smorra mentioned that the goal is to eventually enable antimatter transport across Europe to specialised laboratories, enhancing the precision of ongoing studies.

The success of the trial has opened up the potential for even deeper investigations into the properties of antimatter, with scientists hoping to gain a clearer understanding of its fundamental nature.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage finally has a release date. During the PlayStation Showcase event, held early Thursday, Ubisoft confirmed that the Baghdad-set chapter will arrive October 12 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X. The date was actually leaked ahead of time by a few Japanese retail listings, which usually do not list placeholder dates. The title, codenamed ‘Rift,’ was originally planned as an expansion to Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, but got expanded into a standalone release to fill the gap in Ubisoft’s launch schedule for the fiscal year. Ubisoft Bordeaux leads development on Assassin’s Creed Mirage, which also received a gameplay trailer at the showcase.

As previously reported, Assassin’s Creed Mirage is going back to its franchise roots, presenting a tighter scope focused on crafty assassinations, unlike the open-world RPG-esque elements they adopted in the recent entries. In it, you play as Basim Ibn Ishaq, a side character from AC: Valhalla, who is seen leveraging his skills to track down and eliminate targets. In the cinematic trailer from last year, he was indoctrinated into the Hidden Ones clan by his master/ mentor Roshan (Shohreh Aghdashloo) — turning from a petty thief into an assassin. This new footage appears to be set a while after that, featuring all the hallmarks of the original Assassin’s Creed games. You’ve got air assassinations, hidden blades, and the art of blending with crowds as Basim gradually perfects his art.

“You have died and been reborn,” Roshan says in a voiceover, as we’re treated to visuals of the long-missing parkour system, as Basim is seen hopping across metallic bars and swinging around corners. There’s a new addition called Pole Vault as well, where you perch atop a giant pole and use its centre of gravity to slowly tilt and descend to cover larger distances in the air. Smoke bombs and leaps of faith return, alongside natural stealth mechanics such as pickpocketing. An unnamed character in the Assassin’s Creed Mirage gameplay trailer notes that you could bribe guards to stroll into an establishment, or do it the old-fashioned way by sneaking in. There also appears to be a recurring day and night cycle, which probably could be manipulated to Basim’s will by resting in beds — similar to Dying Light.

The gameplay trailer ends with a flurry of action sequences, where Basim is seen dual-wielding a dagger and curved sword combo and laying waste to enemies. It’s unclear how they work in tandem, but I’m assuming the dagger would be used for parrying incoming attacks. Ubisoft also mentioned that Assassin’s Creed Mirage, which is now up for pre-order on all platforms, will be getting an Arabic voiceover and full localisation. Pre-orders will receive an exclusive bonus quest at launch called ‘The Forty Thieves,’ where you’ll uncover Ali Baba’s cave. Keeping with the theme, will the password be ‘open sesame’ as well?

Assassin’s Creed Mirage is out October 12, across PC (Epic Games Store, Ubisoft Store), PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X.
